I think the diorama backdrop is the funniest thing about this release. It's like, not even the official manufaturers of Marvel Legends could realize that the original ToyBiz diorama was the half of a satellite. The thing that says "Stark" is a solar array, not a neon sign.
This armored was worn in Avengers 3-5. I would love to see Hasbro make Giant Man and Wasp from this era. I would also love to see the original Masters of Evil
For me, AI with human head from Stealth is the way to go. Once I trust my skill with a paintbrush, I'll do something about the blue chest lights, but until then, he's taking pride of place in my Armour Shelf.
I did that. The tough part is finding the right shade of yellow. I used a light yellow acrylic I found on Amazon. It still doesn't look perfect because there's no way to do it without going excessive, but it's an improvement.
No matter what Toybiz ML started it all, & some collectors criticize them, but they only had a 6 year run, & weren't give the chance to upgrade/ improve their bucks...but still, their BAFs, & a few of their figures , stood the test of time.
This figure looks good but it's not worth $32. Sure there's some new parts, but most of it is reuse. We get more new parts from a standard release like Wong or Red Skull AND we get a BAF piece for $10 less. It's insane. I can't support this figure, as much as I'd like to, but there has to be a line and this figure definitely crosses it. I'll stick with my 80th. Great review as always though!
@@Saiyan1229 yeah but it was a brand new (awesome)mold (meaning money actually went into designing/producing from scratch that one)with an amazing Tony Stark head etc..not a reise of the reuse w cardboard backdrop and effects that have little to do w Iron Man
This new figure has the "hornhead" helmet design from the early 60s (ToS #48-#54), it was the initial look of the helmet on the red suit but quickly phased out (without explanation in-story) for the more common rounded helmet like the one on the 80th Anniversary suit. The Iron Man suit retained that look for a very long time (until the 1980s I think). Ironically, the new Tony Stark headsculpt looks more like the 70s/80s "Burt Reynolds" version whereas the 80th Anniversary with the 70s style armour has the old 60s "Clark Gable" look (Tony Stark followed the same moustache trajectory as Doctor Strange, interestingly the new Dr Strange head is also rather 70s looking). I wonder if the heads are easy to swap? If you had all three figures you could put the 60s head on the hornhead (20th anniversary) body, and the 70s head on the slightly more modern body (80th), and the rounded helmet from the "Tony Stark AI" figure looks like it colour matches the 20th anniversary figure really well so you could convert it into a non-hornhead classic Iron Man if you wanted.
This guy is pretty cool, like I really like the helmeted head, gotta say at first I didn’t care for the tony head but now seeing them side by side I do like the new one more, old one looks weird now. If I do get him I’ll try and keep him on card but I feel like I’d open him anyway so idk 😂 but great review
Further, based on the close up in the final shot - if that's the paint application on the official release (as far as the smaller lights are concerned), I might just trust my current level of skill. Yes, it's a particularly small area which does increase the chances of error, but that looks like it was applied with a Q-Tip.
I wish you go with some head swaps. Especially that mr hyde wave ironman head on 20th anniv ironman. I know the color wont match 100% but just wanted to see ✌🏼
From a Canonical perspective, the two Tony Stark headsculpts should almost be switched. The 20th Anniversary figure is more representative of the mk III armor, and the Tony portrait is very 1960's. The 80th Anniversary figure is clearly mk IV armor and the Tony portrait looks right out of the pages of "Demon in a Bottle". I swapped them. I skipped AI because I just don't like the colors. I prefer the gold from the 80 years, but I like having a chronological hall of armor.
Thank you for this early review. I was on the fence and almost cancelled my preorder. Keeping it cause you helped me decide. I think it looks great. Thanks
I like the newest, 20th Anniversary...!! Classic Ditko-Early Avengers Iron Man.!! I love the 'retro' Marvel Figures... that harken back to the Classic '60's...!!
Y got a los toybiz figures I collect them since I got 6 years, man face off cap still hold to today and brown suit wolverine God damn is a beautiful figure.
Would probably get this one for the tony head sculpt. I still like that 80th. Jus wish this one came with another it Ironman head besides the unhelmet head!! Congrats on getting this one!!
The new 20th Anniversary is the best Marvel Legends Iron Man to me. Waiting on the Medicom Toy/Mafex Iron Man to be my ulitmate classic Iron Man figure.
I'm not a big Iron Man fan, so I've never really bothered about having a figure of him in my collection, but I might pick this one up since he's a classic comic design.
Hm. Pretty Cool figure. Tbh, I'm neither here nor there with the changes, but definitely not a priority, like the Cap figure is. The AI/Classic Ironman is pretty good as a classic IM. I'd just want the horned head as a head swap And IMO, that new tony stark head looks like the new Hulk head BEFORE the gamma radiation, Lol
It's a good looking figure but at around £30 here in England not sure it's worth the price. I like the metallic finish on my 80yrs version. Not sure about the Charles Bronson head. It's good but not my Idea of Tony Stark. I like the darkforce effects. They'd be great with Darkstar or a Blackout fig if they make it. Looking at the cardboard background, I'd like some of the other classic armours. The early all gold armour is a must.
the tony headsculpt looks actually good for me. very reminiscent of the 70s-80s tony. the body is the one i dont like. THAT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THE MODEL 2 ARMOR. where are the rivets? where are the lines in the armor? very lazy hasbro.
Why did they change the chest/torso? The one they had been using is much better. I agree they should have also included a more traditional headsculpt helmet for that price point. Also should have been pinless.
Wow this isn't supposed to come out until May.😧😧😧😧😧 Yes, I would have definitely wanted to get the rounded head sculpt like on the display card there in the back ground.

Proportions of the legs are off. Kudos, however, on making a retro Iron Man figure based in the classic, if not arguably THE best run of stories Shellhead ever had by Micheline, Layton and Romita Jr. (Invincible Iron Man volume 1, No's 94 to 159) circa 1980 to 1983. What I want is a two pack of the Mike Saenz' Iron Man: Crash graphic novel from Epic Comics in 1988.
i'll be honest tho, it would have been nice if the 20th anniversary iron man could have been an extremis armor. the classic is good but we dont need another repeat
I didn't realize how many new pieces this figure actually had. New torso, new head, new crotch piece. Considering they could have easily gotten away with no making these new pieces, as the differences are pretty small, I am shocked Hasbro bothered to make the changes.
the torso is a repaint from the 80th version. its not even accurate to the headsculpt. the helmet is from model 2 and the body is a shitty version of model 4.
@Carl Ramos as shown in the video, the torso is not a repaint of the 80th. The musculature is less defined, and the arc reactor lights are less pronounced. They retooled the torso.
@@WiGgYof09 still, its not accurate to the model 2 in the comics. some might not be bothered by it but being a big iron man fan, i still wished it was accurate.

Great review as always! It’s an ok figure but I’m not gonna get. I really hope someone gets the Cap early too, he’s probably the only one I’m gonna try to get but I really want to see if it’s worth it.
@Anchor1981 it's a soft plastic cup, but with a small flathead screw driver just carefully push up and in from the edge and it pops right out. It is painted so just be careful.

Death Wish armor.
Iron Man is my most favorite Marvel Superhero of all time.
The 80th Tony head sculpt is more of a Gene Colan/George Tuska style, while this new one is more of a John Romita Jr. Both have a spot on the shelf
I imagine the reason they didn't include the alt masked head, besides cost, is that they're planning to release another Iron Man with that head.
