I tend to watch without commenting most of the time, but after shedding a tear (or several) for you all, I wanted to join the hundreds here offering their love, care and support. What you do here is very special, and it could never have been without the very special family making you what you are today. I'm glad we got to 'meet' your mother through this channel - even if not in person.

You know, Steve, there you had me completely.
Without realising it myself that over the years of watching you here in Holland, you had become part of my family, I had tears running down my face and needed some time to recover.
My deepest condolences to you and all your family and friends.

I lost my mom 30 years ago. I was 14. I largely stopped shedding tears over the years but while watching today's video I made an exception. And it's a bittersweet thing. Steve, your sincere words show how much love you have for your mom. She'll stick around, even after 30 years. Arabella is looking great even after 100 days of neglect... welcome back!

My condolences on the loss of your dear mother. You can take comfort from the fact that she got to see Arabella being launched. You absolutely did the right thing to be at her side until the very end. I lost my dad to lung cancer in 2017 so I feel your pain. I've been here since before you dismantled the original Victoria and when Alix was still building the boat with you.

Giving care to a dying parent is one of the hardest things we do as children in their last days. It was hard to experience for me, but mom was a believer we were waiting for our brother who lived in Florida, and we are in Oregon. Mom was not going to last the day, and Corey made it to her bedside 15 minutes before she smiled her last smile and slipped away peacefully. ❤ Gods Peace to Your Family.

The tide swell is awesome. You forget sometimes the earth is so dynamic. Just like life, there are changes that we can rely on, like the seasons. There are changes that we cannot predict, like life and death. It is truly our reaction to those changes that make the difference in our lives, and those we live.
Steve and family, thank you for sharing your story with us. So sorry to hear about your mom.

It's so good to be back on Fridays with the Arabella crew! Thank You Steve, for recounting the last years and months of your mom's life and all that you were able to do to ease her passing. Reading the comments, I realized how many of us have lost our parents and other close family. I too carry the memories and still some tears not shed, and my mom passed nearly 5 years ago at 93 years old.
Arabella represents years of time and love, and those of us who have tagged along all this time appreciate your vision and commitment to following the dream become reality. May you always find fair winds and following seas on the journey. Thank you, all my relations.

“Courage isn’t a hot, blistering emotion held only in the hands of those who go into harm’s way, or those who jump out of airplanes, or even those who scale unnamed mountains. It is a quiet thing, (ice cold more often than not), that last tiny piece of yourself you find when you think that everything is lost. It is facing yourself at a time like this, holding onto yourself and brushing away the tears you were certain you didn’t have the strength to brush away. It is moving on, one bitter breath at a time”. May you find peace and solace in your journey.

I hope he finds some comfort in knowing that she got to see what a truly amazing and wonderful human her son has grown up to be. And that her light and values will continue to shine forth in to the world through him.
I can't image there have been many mothers as proud as she must have been watching her child grow, and the comfort of knowing that while she had to leave, she left him surounded by people who love him.

I visited you a couple of times while I traveled to be with my aging parents and found your energy and vision helpful as my sisters and I dealt with their declining health. They were always keen to watch your videos and ask why you were building a boat so far from water! Your episodes intrigued my dad, the consummate Do-It-Yourselfer! You took on such a broad range of tasks and demonstrated that self education, research and determination does lead to amazing accompaniments. They found it inspiring and gave them courage to try new things, even into their 90s! Thank you for sharing the journey; the accompaniments and the emotionally challenging. You have touched so many people and am sure you will for many tears to come!

I know from experience that it is had to loose a parent but time and the sea will help to ease the lose. Just remember that she is always with you in all the nuts and bolts and planks of the Arabella. I am sure that she is watching you even now just hoping that you will move on and enjoy your life. My heart goes out to you, Robin and the rest of your family.

Welcome back. So sorry for your loss. I would just like to take a moment to thank the unnamed hero that took care of that one very annoying thing at the end. Proof that not all heroes wear a cape.

First sailing then backpacking and on to rock and ice climbing.... I terrified my mother time and time again.
I returned to Marblehead from a cpl decades in Hawai'i. My mom went through the same three times. This was her 3'rd and last that I returned for.
The decision to return was a no brainer and one of rhe few great decisions I have made. I watched a lot of Oprah and Degenerous with my mom... up until the muggy morning of July 3'rd.
I know she sails with me still ! :)

Loved the tide time lapses and your update. Your Mom got to see and join in on your Arabella goal and I'm sure that gave her great joy.
