I am enjoying how your channel has transitioned and how you take us sightseeing. I think it is the teacher in you, and you should think of us viewers as the classroom. Loved seeing Robin's excitement, "Over the Rainbow".
Merry Christmas to the A2A crew. Steve and Robin here is to a great 2025 for both of you. So nice to see Matt and Jessica this morning. They are good folks and I enjoyed meeting them at the Annapolis boat show the last 3 years. Best, Bill
It is cool seeing my home waters as seen through a visitor's eyes. living here my whole life, I am numb to many of our beauties and wonders. Thank you for bringing home home to me.
@08:44 I've been sailing some 45 years coastal and ocean, I saw all the navigation aids come and go. In my opinion you're darn right. Now, nothing beats the reliability of a dedicated nav instrument backed up by paper charts and a well kept logbook.👴🧐🤷♂
Yay, Jess and Matt! They've got some serious hard won experience, especially sailing in northern Europe. I think they will love the speed of their new cat when they get it done.
I loved the build, but got nervous when Robin showed up in the videos. Now, because of who you both are, and because you have the ability to transmit the joy you feel living your life, and because Robin turned out to be such a diamond - sorry Steve, I should have trusted you more - I am totally bonded to your channel. I wish you fair winds and full sails!
So far you're doing a stellar job of the transition from a building channel to a sailing channel. Other creators have had varying results. I remember the lumber harvesting, so the progression is very impressive. Fair winds and following seas. (But don't get pooped.)
Beautiful Rainbow and Sun with no Shower, magic! Loved the museum tour, love Oysters. You are great in front of the camera Steve. The handrail is indeed beautiful and I have a 6" piece of it.
Thank you for showcasing the Annapolis Museum, even if it was a painful example of “cut down all the trees, put them in a tree museum” and I found it very discouraging to watch.
"It's Christmasy honey" . Perfect. And Akiva...that final few seconds reminded me that he often brings to my mind that Poor Poor Pitiful Me song by Warren Zevon that Ronstadt made him a gazzilion bucks with. Really good Ep. y'all, Hope you had a happy Christmas and wishes for a Merry New Year 😄
We are friends of your mom and dad Robin! Dan and I have boated the Chesapeake for over 50 years! So excited for this part of your journey !! Safe travels and, enjoy all the beauty of the Bay! Loving that you brought your dog!
Sailing on the Delaware river brings back memories for me. My ancestors settled and established a mill and trading post on the river about 20 miles north of where you are now in the mid 1600s. During the American revolution they were instrumental in obtaining the boats that Washington used to get his army west of the river to escape from the British army as they retreated from New York, then back to the east side to attack them in Trenton on Christmas. Most of seven generations are buried in different locations on both sides of the Delaware.
Amazeballs. Christmas lights on the dock are the best, two for the price of one. Haha radar christmas tree indeed with all those wires - They'll probably be surprised when they discover you're a larger-than-life little wooden boat :) Happy Christmas all.
A perfect rainbow, the golden arch of safety. My dad was a merchant skipper for large freighters before and during WWII. One of his stories was about Hong Kong harbor. They had a ceremonial blessed gateway out in the entrance waters to the harbor waters, and small boats used to sail through it with a belief that evil spirits would not pass through it. Devil spirits would not go through that gate to harass or get them; thus, they would stay out of the inner harbor. If the small craft sailors could not get through the blessed sacred gate, the next best thing was to sail under the bow of a freighter or cruiser as close as possible so that the evil spirits would chicken out and not follow. He cleaned up many a small craft.
I am really into boat building more than I am following the journey as closely but I still love to see how things are going. I’m near havre de Grace, md so glad y’all made it safe!
something that dawns on me often...u know several YTers that were very reluctant (mostly) bc it was assumed internet is hate/trash...so 95% of comments would be negative. What an amazing experience to find it otherwise🥰
Steve I've been watching you since the beginning. I didnt watch because of Alex, I watched because of you. Like it or not, you are the heart of the project. I think most people would agree. You HAVE to put yourself in front of the video. I appreciate everyone else that is tied to your channel in one way or the other, but I watch to see what you are up to. My recommendation? Ignore the camera and live your life. We are tagging along your adventure. If you want to face the camera from time to time to say something.. Cool. If not, we just tag along. I'm stuck in a cubicle. Go forth and adventure and dont worry about the camera. Let us decide if its boring. Just pump them videos out.
Do you anticipate installing an enclosed Dodger for foul weather? We loved ours, not being pelted by driving rain or sea spray made the cockpit area as pleasant as the cabin! Great sun shade for the sultry summer months as well... 😎
All the best to Matt and Jessica. Mutual encouragement and support has been a big part of Arabella's journey. I am guessing this visit has helped put some more wind in your sails, and it's exactly the kind of interaction Steve and Robin were hoping for.
Delaware Bay is quite possibly my least favorite stretch of water. Completely agree with you about the use of technology- if you can have it, why wouldn’t you.
Oh god their playlist has 143 videos already... well, here I go I guess, time to dig in. As a side note, I just caught up with SV Delos build, but in comparison it's obviously at a very different pace (mostly professional builders and such).
Regarding Oysters. The same thing has happened all over the world. I work near the Solent and the Harbours around Portsmouth (original, English, one). There used to be a significant fishery in Langstone Harbour and the rest of the area, the largest in Europe, all gone now. Most of the Oysters have gone from the Solent and those that are there are mostly invasive Pacific Oysters, not the local European Flat Oyster, although an effort has been started to rebuild that population.
Those of you who visited the U.S.S. Maine Foremast Memorial in the '70s, may also remember you could push a button at the base and change the lights up top. Also, multi-hulls are most stable upside down.
this episode mentioning the Caribbean reminded me of something I've been curious about. boat insurance and other legal hurdles one must do if one plans to travel internationally on a personal vessel. I've traveled internationally on a previous job before so I know the things like required inoculations, passports and even ransom insurance but it would be nice at some point if Steve gave us his opinions on these issues (actual cost need not be mentioned, but I am curious of a ball park range one would expect to pay)
@acorntoarabella a previous video about the lobsters. my grandpa and i put our heads together. The microbes in the water, while in a plastic cage, might not be enough for the lobster to survive the season. in other words they starve. the wooden crates create a microbial surface for plankton to grow on. Basicly the wooden crates they use are also growing them a food supply while in captivity. Plastic does not. A simple wooden ball in plastic crates would most likely render the plastic cages a viable alternative to wood.
Happy holidays gang. I see peace in your smiles as you motor on. I hope your hearts are full of joy this season. And as always, give Akiva a scritch from all of us.
15:30 , I prefer the camera outwards. Channels that constantly have to have the person's face in the camera have no interest to me. I think you've been doing a good balance so far. Your faces aren't going to change much one week to the next, heheh. On the other hand, you can film Akiva all you want. :D
Sun on my face and a rainbow on my back .........we should all be so lucky ❤❤
Thank you for talking with Matt and Jessica. Their build is really admirable.

For MJ Sailing. “Almost half-way done” is the best answer. “Almost half-way there” is my favorite answer to hikers who ask “how far?”
Trebuchet's Rule of Projects: The first 90% of the project takes 90% of the time and budget. The last 10% of the project takes the other 90%.

Looking at the flashlight beam getting bent was pure science in action! Fog is no joke!!!
Yay, Jess and Matt! They've got some serious hard won experience, especially sailing in northern Europe. I think they will love the speed of their new cat when they get it done.
Nice to see MJ sailing not covered in dust, they do clean up quite well 😂👊🏻

Well spoken Nick.
Got nervous too, but when I see her smile at rainbows and Christmas, I’m in love.

Thank you for sharing your adventures. Getting to "sail" the Americas from my armchair down under (brisbane Australia)

Yule tidings to you and yours 🎄
Merry Christmas to the A2A crew! I hope you gave akiva the best Christmas treats.
Naval Academy Museum! Go there, too.
Nothing to say but happy New Year and stay safe.
Matt and Jessica appear to be the same kind of people as Steve and Robin. : ) : )
Delaware Bay is quite possibly my least favorite stretch of water. Completely agree with you about the use of technology- if you can have it, why wouldn’t you.
Daylight cures everything....
I did this trip in 1972 on the Cutter Vigilant. New Bedford to Curtis Bat MD

"Big Mac". Good kitty! No offense to Akiva.
💗 🎄 🎉
Lovely video today! ❤️
As you pass by “Chesapeake City” welcome to a little drinking town with a boating problem…
Happy New Year. How is Bellota the Bilge Dragon doing?
Oysters are the largest contributors to water clarity and purity. Over harvesting of oysters is what has led to today's problem in the Chesapeake.
new joyzee. did you see any drones or UAP's?
did you all get chance get some crab cakes and smith island cake on your way down the bay?
Sydney to Hobart next Boxing Day?

Dear Akiva.

for the autistic and nd folk, the real museum attraction is at 11:14

The MJ Sailing segment appeared so quickly not sure what it is all about. If you can post some pictures of their project it might be interesting.
Steve included a link to their channel.
Good Morning from Sandwich, MA
too bad you didn't have time to stop and see Luke Mcfadden in bodkin point. Hes a youtuber who catches blue crab in the Chesapeake.
