- I use the Honda TRX 300 4 wheeler for carrying supplies from the boat to the house on the Island. I often have wet feet from the sea, which has rusted away the gear lever.

I'm not sure which I found to be most impressive. The fix of the gear lever on the Honda or the fact that you can just go down to the beach and casually pick fresh oysters for dinner.
They don't call New Zealand Godzone ("god's own") for nothing. Land of milk and honey and oysters and...
Hasn't everyone got an oyster log in their back yard?
Exactly what I was thinking 😂
@andrewjones-productions: The oysters. If you have a welder and a chunk of metal you can make a shifter, but living where I do you aren't finding oysters.
did you ever see that omegaXL commercial on TV.. that lake he is on grows those green new zealand mussels that its made out of. i bet they don't even sell it in New Zealand but its on every TV Network commercial all night long in the states.
I love these old Hondas. They can take a beating. I’ve owned a couple over the years. Love your channel Marty! Cheers from Toronto.
The pooch is growing up fast and seems to be very happy !
Repairs rusted gear lever, drives it straight to the salty ocean 😂 gotta love it
So happy to see you back as I get so much off your videos mate but hope you’re all doing well many thanks for your videos and take care mate
Marty your Daughter is getting so big I remember when she was just a very young child they grow up so fast ,good seeing you guys and watching your Videos the scenery is always awesome ,time to get cracking on some heavy machinery again I miss those videos
Great to hear the sounds of summer. Looking forward to the spring here in the UK. Great video keep them coming, thank you.
"Pretty basic tools here so I've just gonna have to use what I have lying around."
Proceeds to break out an angle grinder, generator, and a welder
Safe to say that Marty has a slightly different class of stuff that's 'lying around ' than most people.😅
LOL
that is basic rural tools lol.. i think he was more using the fencing pliers as a mullet lol
@@anubis4496 Fencing pliers are meant to serve as a hammer, at least a light-duty one.
Watch next week when he makes an Angle Grinder tool out of a rusty piece of ATV gear lever.
Bush mechanic at his finest
Hi from Gippsland Vic Australia 🇦🇺
It's so weird watching someone in the middle of the summer while you're in the middle of the winter.
Welcome to the Southern Hemisphere. It's a great place to live 😁
Honestly I think I enjoy your content so much because you are innovative, explain the process very thoroughly, and don't promote destroying your property for internet fame. Another great video to let those who are watching know that are the only thing stopping themselves from getting out and doing something fun and worth the while.
Nothing like a good old kiwi bush fix. Nice one.
This channel always leave me feeling good.
Thank You Mart.
Glad to see you enjoying summer!:) Here on Wisconsin we just finished two weeks heavy snow and then bitter cold. Ten days of below 0 F. (-27 C) I'm always envious of your off grid lifestyle. Thanks for sharing!😊
Even the smallest repairs are nice to watch when Marty does it.
I love hearing those birds in the background, good job.
Every tools a hammer. Unless its a screwdriver. Thats a chisel
😂
Adam Savage has a book by that name, if I am not wrong.
You just need to get a bigger screwdriver, then it can be a hammer. Cheers
Unless it’s a chisel - that’s a paint can opener.
What you do with ‘basic’ tools is more than most people would attempt with a shop full of tools!
Wow! What an abundance of oysters!👍
Only Marty can say we've only got basic tools, for us mere mortals we'd be struggling with a multi tool. Not Marty his basic tools include a grinder, welder and complete ratchet set. 😂 Just when you think the New Zealand tourist board films were getting a bit samey along comes Marty showing some wonderful scenery and picking Oysters of a beach. 👍🤗
First I though....This video must be half a year old... when looking outside all wet, cold and snowy...
but....other side of the world 😁
Stunning place you live though 👍
Ahh the versatility of a grading bucket anvil! Gotta use what’s around you.
I was wondering why someone was mowing the lawn while Marty was welding, until I realised it was the generator, lol.
Ah yes, the Honda 300. Arguably the toughest 4 wheeler ever built.
Lots of ladies are taking note on the work here. You are doing a great service for us guys. Thanks.
Well done Mr 😎
Living like you do….priceless!❤
Best post-apocalyptic repair ever, I guess Marty can get his stuff keep working forever!
👍👍👍
Just finished watching your tirfor video and this pops up, perfect! Thanks for the regular uploads Marty.
you are a fortunate guy, mate.God bless
Maintenance keeps the world moving. Nice job of repairing the gear shift lever sir. Thanks for the video young man.
Nice work as always! I enjoy watching your videos
There's nothing like a repair done well then grocery shopping.
Good man Marty you are the type of guy I want in my lifeboat!
Would love to hear your story, you seem to have multiple properties and be very knowledgeable successful in life, having a boat access only property would come with so many challenges would be interesting to hear how you go about it and how you overcome them, love the footage you put out mate👍
Love the content. Please make longer videos!
Great to see your "Safety Crocks" there Marty 😊. Hope you remembered the SP50 on your legs.
I had a job on a farm in the early 80's hard facing scarafier points, sitting on a drum wearing shorts. I ended up with radiation burns from the welder right up my inner thighs as I was wearing shorts.... Very painful. A nice spot down the Sounds you have there..
Love the Rosie thumbnail!
She can fix the 4x4 herself under your tutelage.
Tiny Vice-Grip has saved more shifter/brake lever rides than you can imagine. 😉
Great job and exactly why I subscribe to your channel.
I hope you, your family and your critters are having a nice summer, Marty. 👍🏻
Love your dog.We need more.
Gotta love a Honda big red 300, hands down the best atv Honda ever made, used to have a 4x4 version and there wasn't many places it wouldn't go, back diffs are a major weak point though
Still having one, I’d have to say the ignition module is its achilles heel! 😊
My favorite channel! You're the man Marty. 👍
World's best bush mechanic does it again 😀 nice one Marty, looking forward to the next video 👍
I'm a pipefitter and we do a lot of welding, and one thing we never do is quench a hot weld down with water, it makes them brittle. We sometimes have to make U-bolts and if you heat a rod up with a torch and after you bend it into shape you were to quench it, it will often break when you tighten it. If you let it cool down by itself you never have that problem
I think he was worried about melting the rubber tip off of the shifter.
Yeah I usually let welds cool naturally, unless there is a rubber part or seal nearby
Safety shoes as usual. I like that and i am doing a lot of stuff with crocs aswell.
You have the life man. Congrats.
Marty living the good life!!!
Thanks Marty! Great video - you’re resourceful and not sure if you intended it, funny (oysters). Made me smile. 😊
I wish that atv manufacturers would release a “surf” version of their 4 wheelers that have galv frames and stainless parts.
We keep a can am 4x4 up in the coromandel to launch our small boat in the summer and it’s only been 5 or so years since we got it (albeit second hand already) and it’s beyond the point of repair due to rust, mainly the brakes which have completely rusted away.
I think I might try and do my own DIY ocean-proofing on a new one to prolong the degradation.
Great simple fix. FFF, forest floor fabrications at its best.
Impressive marty, as always!
Your dog is livin her best life.
Wouldn't mind a follow up video of you cooking those oysters! ✌
Nicely done Marty, thanks for the video.👍👍
Nice fix bro, gee it must be a good 50 years since I gathered oysters like that, yum. Safe travels. Ken.
Thanks Marty, helps a lot
👍👌👏 Very well done again and as always (video and work). Best regards luck and especially health to all of you.
Marty! I was just about to go to bed 😴🙏🏾🇬🇧
Lookin good! Great repair.
Good job! Working with what you have! Thank you for sharing! 👍
Never mind the quad, you have oysters for dinner. O.o7 Looks as if you are in paradise Marty. Enjoy them mate. Wish i could get some fresh over here.
Great video! i Love watching your videos. Awesome job on fixing/replacing the gear lever. GOD' Bless your whole family. Amen :)
I wish I was your neighbor, love the way u live off the land!
if it's available try spray fluid film on the metal parts on your ATV we do a lot of winter riding( I live in the northern part of the states a lot of salt on roads) it works wonders
Goods old 300 Fourtrax. Probably the most reliable atv ever built if you maintain them.
You sure have beautiful country down there Marty.
Hey Marty
I just love the way You solve your problems
And the lifestyle is so refresing . Just drive Down to the beach and pick sove oysters.
Max
I hope the oysters worked and Mrs T is happy!
I knew I was keeping old grinder spanners for a reason... just didn't know what is was yet, replacement gear shifters for a quad bike I don't own😂
That bull terrier is growing up fast! And what a great life for dog and family alike, looks idyllic out there!
😂
"I'll grab some oysters for dinner." Those things are $24 USD for a dozen!
They wouldn't be nearly as nice or fresh as the ones Marty can pick off an old log.
Yes, but imagine the money you’ve saved by not having an idyllic spot near the beach.
Excellent video Marty T :) also yes agree that lever need be fix up and got done in time to on 4 wheeler!
The MacGyver of The Antipodes
Nice one Marty! very resourceful.
Someone lives in paradise
Salt water nasty stuff when it comes to metal. Great job Marty 😊👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks again for the video.
Good stuff love your videos hope you have a great week
That pit bull is living his best life!
Yay!
thank you very much for good entertainment.👍🤗👍🇸🇯
Looks factory! Even stronger....well done
Good fix.
Living the dream!
I’ve never eaten oysters but I think I would give it a try if I were there.
Said this before ,such a great place to live 👍👍 and the video was to short lol 🤟
The Bull Terrier is a real beauty! They really are characters and a joy to have around I bet the children love having it as a companion.
Once again you have MacGyver your machine’s! 🎉👏
Oysters for dinner. Yum! 👍👍👍
Solid workhorses
Beautiful location 👍🏻
Possibly a bit of a joke there, about "grinding" the gears? Good job with the fix, using
whatever's at hand.
Nice job fella .your English Bull Terrier is a beauty ..
Rather than buying a new one, clean up the spline boss and the pedal mount boss and weld a piece of rebar. It lasts for ages and ages, especially if you boil it in motor oil in an old baking tray.
Good job mate!
As usual, nice job mate!
Next week you'll make an angle grinder tool from a gear leaver when you need to replace the disc :D
Mate, you stuffed up. You should have left the grinder disc lock nut pins on it so you can take it off & change your grinding discs on your Makita.
😂 Its off an old dead grinder, doesn't fit the new one
Love your resourcefulness. But then again it's not like you a have a lot of options.
Thanks Marty
