Being an amature gem cutter, I am familiar with polishing hard materials. Removing scratches from glass would not be unlike polishing a stone. Don't expect to polish out those scratches in one step. You must do it in steps, first with a course abrasive such as silicon carbide or alumina gradually working finer and finer. I will caution you: you could end up with a much bigger mess. I advise you too live with it or replace the window. -RC
Yep same issue here on mine looks exactly like yours, had a guy tell me to use 2000 grit sand paper with a professional buffer, I never did that . I was going to try it on another pc of glass to see but didn’t do that either,so that project still on hold . Keep us updated Thanks Chris
There is a great video on AutoGeek's UA-cam channel describing how to remove the scratches in glass. I believe you are on the right track with using an abrasive but you really need to use a glass polish. As far as the process of polishing it is very labor intensive. You will spend about 20 minutes per section polishing depending on how deep the scratches are. Mike Phillips is a professional detailer and explains the process much better than I can. Good luck!
My C5 had some wicked acid rain spots on the glass when I bought it. I used a product called ProClean from a company called GlasWeld. Completely refurbished the glass. Might be worth a try.
Heh Chris, I've been there, done that too but still NO results. I had the glass replaced. For future if you find the successful cure I would be interested. Good Luck 😉
if anyone knows its sweet project cars , most of his remedies are spot on , try some steel wool with the fast orange mix , the scratches maybe to deep so replacement glass might be next
I’m about to have the windshield on my C5 replaced because I’ve been trying to buff this out since I’ve owned it and it’s still almost sandblasted and haze over shortly after if you use the wipers or try to simply wipe something off. I’ve tried CeriGlass and WaterSpot Remover and even ceramic wax it. Still like sandpaper wiping it clean. But try WaterSpot remover and finish with Cereglass glass polish. It’s a light abrasive that will cut onto the glass a little.
Cris I still have a body shop still at 74 and I have found out the only way is new glass.I think you are fussy like me and that's the only right way. Dave
My C6 has the same thing, just not as bad. I've had the same thing happen to me on my previous Camaro with the wiper blade marks and tried steel wool and tons of polishing with no results.
Hey Chris, I've heard that steel wool works but that made me squirm. No idea what was was used but I'm guessing super fine and I believe it was dabbed with turtle wax.
1998 corvette Feul gauge dropped to empty I just filled it up maybe 30 miles earlier Check gauge light came on Light whistle behind drivers seat. Feul pump?
Hi Chris : ) You should mabe used both hands on the machine to make more pressure-power on the glass to easier remove the scratches?? Mabe a very fine / fine "vax rubbing product" can be used, but can be a risk so try another glass surface from a old car first.
I’ve watched a lot of videos on this same subject as I have scratches on my windows. The general consensus is that you need to use cerium oxide and a specia glass polishing pad. Also if your fingernail can catch it then it’s too deep. I need to do the same to my car :-(
glass issues are common... most are caused due to the rollers in your door being worn out. It is worse when you have an old vehicle and have tinted the car. You may want to have rollers replaced. At least you have clean teeth. Best Chris.
Hey Chris, this may be a little off-topic but I noticed in one of your other videos that your car does not have the license plate trim. I just learned that about my car and it really finishes off the license plate nicely. PN 16523797. Check it out!

My 72 Camaro and all my C5s and C4s had this issue. Bad window felts was my issue.
To fix this problem only one way. NEW GLASSES 😁. The next video how to change the glasses in these doors 😄. .. good try Chris 👍
Pumice with the right cloth bit on a drill and lots of patience will remove scratches without marring the see through.

try using chrome polish, I use it to get cement residue off of my truck at work , its the only thing that seems to work
at that point if they’re that deep i’d try wet sanding first with 2000, 3000 grit sand paper and then do that buffing

Have the same issue on my '99. Window tint concealed it pretty well after I attempted everything under the sun. Next video perhaps?

My C5 has scratches on the windows too but I am just going to live with them . She is a driver not a show car
Doesn’t mean it can’t be nice.

Fuel sending unit. Common issue. Put a bottle of Techron in the tank and it will go back.
1 step rotor + abralon 360
2 step rotor + abralon 600
3 step rotor + felt disc and + cerium oxide
4 🔥 its really work
It sounds like a big risk : /

All in all, to buy new windows and new wheaterstripping are the best, but expencive.... always money.. but it a good investment : )
Let me know if you find something that works. I need to do me windshield. Good luck. Thanks

Replace the weather stripping and the glass. Because of the cost that's probably not what you want to hear.
Good video but the only cure for deep glass scratches is new glass. You need a glass sponsor so you can do that video next.

go to autogeek com they have what you are looking for. also they just did a tutorial on how to do it.
Skip the toothpaste one since it didn't work for you.

Tint windows
That doesn’t make the scratches go away on the outside of the glass.
Maybe the scratch is also on the inside
