Thanks for the tip on getting the door switch removed! I had to do the same as my interior lights were remaining on with the doors closed which lead to draining the battery. I replaced both switches using your tip, and fortunately for me, that seems to have solved the problem. Without your tip -- I might have gone forward with removing the door panels. Despite this, I had difficulty getting everything out due to a very tight fit. On both doors this resulted in the switch getting unplugged with the harness remaining inside the door. Fortunately, the harness remained right there by the hole and I was able to pull it out with needle-nose pliers.
Slick trick, thank you!
What a PITA to get to though! Not relishing having to take out half the dash to replace a pc board that, by original design, should have been placed in the relay or fuse box! Thank God you are a determined individual, Chris. Good trbl shooting tech too!
Thanks 👍
Keep making videos dude , love from India
👍
Once again Chris you solved the problem. Good for you.
Steve
👍
More amazing work Chris, thank you for these videos!
Great video mate . All these tips make troubleshooting so much easier for me here in Australia , as parts arent so readily available . Cheers n beers !
👍
If I had to get a new delay timer, I'd get the version where it turns the lights off as soon as you shut the door. As having it that way makes it easy to tell if you left the interior lights on and thus saving you a drained battery.
Right!! I always look back at the car then wonder if I closed the door all the way. Of course they always go off when I've walked back and am only 2 steps away though. 😅
I just got me a 1995 C4 Corvette, and had the same issue but it was just the dimmer switch on the headlights was on. Turn counterclockwise one click and the courtesy lights now go off after about five seconds or so
Oh wow. Thank you so much for this comment. I didn't even know that was a thing. Just solved it for me too! Thank you
Did your button for the rear hatch work prior to fixing the circuit board?
Very much enjoyed! Another good fix and smart tips~John 👍🏻
Nice job Chris
Thanks
Thanks for the great info
Nice job! I read where it could be the door open switch or timer. Looks like they should make the timer circuit board more accessible thN having to remove the dashboard top.
Excellent video I'm thinking about purchasing a '98 today I also have the air conditioning temperature control panel stuck on 90...
Likely you did a video maybe I just need to replace the control panel?
Hey Chris, I was just wondering why you didn't ohm check the old switch when you pulled it out. The multimeter would have told you if the switch was good or not. Anyway, as always a good video and I don't own a C4 I just like your videos.
Chris I wish you were keeping the c4. But even though it'll be sold eventually I'm grateful for all the content. I'm betting a c3 is next up. That would be cool though because eventually when I get one of those too you'll probably have a lot of content on those as well.
Stay tuned.
How about the doorajar light staying on?
Does the 93 have a delay timer?
does a 1993 C4 have the delay circuit board timer in the same area of the dash. Hopefully that is my problem, took drivers door apart replacing some screw holders in the door had the door open for awhile and didn't disconnect the battery. Once placed back together the lights work on the door handles but only for a very short time 1 second then they go off his happens when you grab the door handle to open either door. Do you think the circuit board timer is the problem. Prior to this repair worked fine. ty
Why you don’t use a meter to check the switch?
Hi Chris
Where did you get the circuit board for the timer. My local dealer in VA said it's discontinued
Thanks

I know this video is 3 years old, but I wonder if anyone has bypassed the time altogether? I have seen this done on a C3 by jumping 2 of the wires and deleting the timer.
how to replace under drivers side passenger light
Nice....
Thanks
Kudos!
Thanks
Chris, my lights come on but the door ajar is not comping on? They go out on delayed as they should?
This is probably way too old but there two switches, atleast on mine (86 C4) and as far as I could tell in this video, this video gets them incorrect as to which does what.
One at the front of the door, attached to the door frame which controls the Interior lights and security system
and one at the back that controls the door ajar light.
if the door ajar light dosen't come on, then do the installation in the video
I'm having the same problem with my interior lights.
Do you need to remove the Bread Box to get at the Delay Timer? Can you still get access to it by just removing the Dash and top screws of the bread Box?
I don't want to mess with that hard to reach screw. Thanks!
You may get lucky and be able to fish around and pull it out.
Where was this video last week when I removed my door ajar actuator/switch and the backing plate fell down in the door?
ZipCorvette: “Our technicians have determined that the installation difficulty level of this item is a 1 on a scale of 1-5.”
…so long as you’ve watched MCL’s video on UA-cam prior to install.
Suggestion for next video: “How to disassemble the door to get to that pesky backing plate”
Not all "C4" are the same. There are several significant differences in the courtesy light circuits between 84-89 and 1990-96.
This car's build date is 10/87, so he's working on a 1988. The switch on the rear of the door has nothing to do with the courtesy lights in a 1984-1989. The switch he's replacing only activates the DOOR AJAR light in the driver information center. Replacing the ajar switch won't fix the courtesy lights.
So now the question is do you know how to go about fixing the trunk latch buttons for an 84’? Haven’t been able to find much for my model year and having to go into the center console every time can be a pain.
Sure made it a lot easier since the dash was already apart.
My interior lights flash when the car is off and doors closed? Anybody know why?
Willcox owner has passed. Website no longer functions. Dang
Hey i have a 97 corvette and the parking light in the front keeps blowing the bulbs does anyone knows why this keeps happening
Check the voltage and the fuses.
Also check that the housing doesn’t have any cracks. If any water gets in, it will blow the lamp.
Ok thanks ! I'll try it out
Test parts before you drop money on new ones! A simple continuity tester would have told you if the switch was good or not!
