Our riser base is out for delivery right now! I've cut some simple 90 degree angle pieces of 1/2" MDF about 3"x3" to use as lifters for the honeycomb bed to get some more air flow between it and the bottom tray. One of the rubber feet the honeycomb came with was missing out of the box so taking them all off and making my own feet seemed the way to go. The riser will give me back that lost clearance and then some, yay!
Could two riser bases be stacked together to gain even more room under the xTool laser machine? I’d like to engrave on the side of a 8” wide bowl using the RA2 rotary tool. Using only one riser base doesn’t give enough room, where two risers would.
I have the S1 40W, I havent installed the riser base, worried about shaking. I also have the RA2 pro which I havent used. I'm worried about the shaking and crumb tray sliding around.
Hello, I haven't noticed any major shaking with my riser base attatched. I have a video on my channel with me doing tumblers on the S1 if you want to check out my setup. Good luck with your S1!
Putting our riser base together right now, it’s really unclear in the directions where to put the rubber strips, can you advise? Please and thank you :)
I actually didn't even use them. I agree...I had no idea where the instructions were wanted me to put them...and I also didn't see a need for the strips. Maybe so it seals better for fume extraction?
Once you add the riser base, do you put the tray on the highest level and place the honeycomb in for cutting thin wood or engraving slate tiles? Is that too far away from the laser? (new to this)
Yep, I pretty sure I just use the top slot with the honeycomb. There seems to be a lot distance that the laser head moves up and down, so it is pretty forgiving. So you might be good even going with a lower slot and the laser will adjust to that.
I’m seriously considering the S1 and base to use in my shop. I make cutting boards and I’m wanting to start engraving them using the S1. My question is that some of my boards are larger butcher block sized at 24” X 13” X 2”. I know the S1 wouldn’t fit this sized board in directly but I wonder if it would fit using the pass-through with the riser base and simply inserting the board in long ways or perpendicular to the S1. How large is the riser base opening for the pass-through? Thanks.
Hello, You should have no problem doing this. I think with the riser base, you have around 5 inches of clearnece for your work piece...so your 2 inch thick cutting boards should work just fine!
Thanks for the useful video. A couple of questions: Can you leave the riser base on all the time once you set it up? And I see the other comments about the four strips that come with it but how is the smoke extraction if you don't install those? I got the S1 package deal with the riser and the smoke purifier so I'm wondering if I can still use the machine in the same location with the base using the smoke purifier or if I need more ventilation. Thanks!
Hello, yep...you can leave the base on all the time. That is what I do. I have now added the strips for a little better sealing. I think you should have good luck with the smoke purifier. The base shouldn't affect that at all.
I think your better off not fitting the base so you can interchange it when needed. I’m having problems with the creative space software when running the S1. If I run a job at say 50 power and 10 speed the the S1 with do a duplicate pass instead of the single pass it’s set at. If I set it above 50 power it runs a single pass.
My plan is to build a cart for my S1 so that I can keep the riser base on all the time and I can easily add the converyor system I have to it as well when needed. I am sorry you are having issues with the duplicate pass. Have you contacted xtool about this? I haven't run into this issue myself.
Hello, I didn't add mine yet...because I was confused by the instructions on where exactly to put them. Do you know what they are for? To me, they didn't have much purpose. I discussed with someone else that maybe they are for a tighter seal for eye protection and smoke extraction.
@@chaddiy3512 Riser base in EU keeps the class 1 safety cert because they aren't allowed to have the conveyor due to regulation or something. US version / conveyor compatible version drops the safety level down. xtool started providing the strips a little bit after due to reviews/concerns to mitigate the gaps from the folding panels.
xTool has a video for putting together the riser base. I watched it after the fact so I did the same thing as you did and put the bolts in the threaded hole before I realized it was wrong. The foam adhesive strips go on the front and back panels that fold down. It goes on the outside of the little angled lip so that when the panel is closed it then blocks the gap a bit. There were 4 strips but I only used 2 (one for each panel). I guess will add the other one if there is any light leakage. I think they could have designed it better to have not needed these. I'm sure they will have a new model in a couple months (just joking but it seems like they are releasing new stuff all the time).
Thanks for the info! I will have to check out the official xtool video on this. That makes sense on the adhesive strip. That was the main part I didn't understand from the instructions.
@@chaddiy3512 There is still a gap with the one strip. I tried putting on the 2nd one but then it wouldn't close so I went back to just one. I am going to try putting some magnetic tape over the gap as I really don't want to have to wear the glasses everytime I use it.
@mikeneron ok, good too know. I am going to check mine out and see what I can do to seal it up a bit better...don't want any laser light coming through!
The instruction for the Honeycomb are und clear too with with riser you get. I have the pass through riser but the instructions for the Honeycomb are for the none passthrough. It tells you how to put the Honeycomb into the riser all the way to the back and to the right side. There is NO WAY to do that with the honeycomb with the passthrough riser! does it just lay there in the tray?
Hello, thanks for the comment. I haven't really tasted it out much with cutting, but I just assumed that the honeycomb would just lay in the tray. The biggest learning curve I was having is knowing what slot to put the tray in compared to how think of an item I was engraving. A few times the machine stopped because I had the tray too high. Overall, I am really happy with the machine...I just need to figure some more stuff out on it.
Can I engrave a part of piece that is too large to fit inside the machine but would fit if I had the doors open. The piece would be too thick to use the conveyor system.
Is anyone concerned that it loses its safety rating when using the riser? From what xTool tells me you still have to use eye protection with the riser as light can leak out at the seam.
I guess there is no way around that to have a riser base with a pass through that opens up. I never really use the pass through so can just tape up all the seems and then I don't worry about it, but glasses should be worn if there are any gaps.
Nice job! Don't forget that even though they say this is a Class 1 Laser, those front/back panels have no safety switches and if opened, you can blind someone or yourself.
Thanks for the advice! I think I might just keep wearing my laser safety glasses as well just in case. You can't be too careful when it comes to your eyes!

Bummer that is was missing one of the rubber feet, but it sounds like you got a good solution figured out. Have fun with the riser base!
if you take out the honeycomb what is the depth of a item you can use with the riser

Tobad EU got screwed over on the xTool S1 Riser Base. Closed version is useless.
Sorry to hear that, I didn't know there was a closed version

Good point on the fume extraction, also maybe eye safety. Thanks for the quick reply😃
@user-vs5bq2er8y Yeah, eye safety as well...great point!

Hello, I believe the riser base adds an extra 5.3 inches. So you should have around 7 inches all together. I think you will like the s1!
