The passing of 'Kenny Everett' was as hard hitting as the passing of 'Rik Mayell'. My Dad hated us watching this show when we were kids. I got caught by my next door neighbours Mum, who walked in the room with me and a friend. I was sat in her swivel chair spinning around holding two ornaments from her fire mantle place (hands holding balls), swinging my legs over saying "It's all done in the best possible taste".
Kenny Everett was a one off, we will never see the likes of him again and Tv has gone so boring over the years since he died at such a young age. RIP Legend
Sooooo sadly missed. He was a huge part of my younger years from the zany shows on Capital Radio to the TV series. I never missed a show. One of the best British talents ever to come out of this country.
He truly was an amazing talent. No one before or since has ever come close to him & no one ever will. He wasn’t afraid to take risks even if it got him into trouble.
Very true. It's like Lenny Henry did impressions of white people. And a vent whose name escapes me made no attempt to stop his lips moving. In all three cases, the characterisations were so STRONG, they stood DESPITE the obvious.
+Keith Jones I know Spike Milligan had a character in The Goon Show called Hugh Jamton , rhyming slang Hugh Hamton, Hamton Wick. = prick. And none of the bosses at the BBC ever picked up on the joke though the listeners got it straight away, that was in the mid-fifties...
Page 192 of the book "Cupid Stunts - the Life & Radio Times of Kenny Everett" by David & Caroline Stafford states: "When Cupid's name caused problems in high places, Barry (Cryer) suggested an alternative spoonerism - Mary Hinge. On balance it was considered safer to stick with Cupid Stunt. The Radio Times got round the problem by referring to her merely as 'Cupid'. And by series two her fame had outgrown the spoonerism..."
Legend. Fantastic dj too. Kenny was big Mates with Freddie Mercury and was the first dj to play and recognise the genius of Bohemian Rhapsody whilst other djs said it was too long and would flop. Kenny was brilliant, he is sadly missed on both TV and radio. In these days of tenth rate rubbish masquerading as talent we need his genius again. He left us too soon.
So true. Forever missed. I seriously wonder what Cuddly Ken would make of TV today. Maybe in some ways it is better for him to not be here to see how totally shit it has become.

Comedy genius and such a lovely man as well. My parents would let me watch this. leaving the room, they had no idea how rude it was, mostly over my head as a kid.

On BBC Radio 4 just now ( 24 July 2012 ) a disc jockey apparently of renown called Christian O Connell , just said ( and not in his opinion) something to this effect “ Steve Wright was the first DJ on British radio whom was irrelevant and sarcastic and had hilarious characters “ . He was speaking of his influences in the 1980s which is fair enough but for someone of his apparent experience in this country, I find his statement not only to be misinformed but bloody bollocks and untrue. With respect to Steve Wright , Everett was around years before and wasn’t half as sanitised as Kenny and as far as I’m aware , has never outraged or been sacked then re- employed by anyone. how great would it have been to have a comic face off between 'cupid stunt' Kenny and 'Dame Edna Everage' Barry..Humphries that is..would have sold my soul to see that happen ;)

No-one could ever replace him. The ultimate comic genius. So much of his stuff was unscripted, and he didn't need writers. Incredible!
Kenny Everett wasn't bad either
Genius comedian!
Actually Kenny spent a great amount of time on his scripts which he worked on until they were exactly what he wanted. Brilliant.

The fact that he kept the beard was just hilarious.
He never goes out of date. How the hell he got away with a name like Cupid Stunt is amazing at that time in Britain. He was wonderful!
....Kenny represented the very best of British taste & humour and it is amazing (looking back EVEN now) how DID he get away with it?
According to a Barry Cryer interview (he is also sadly no longerwith us) an alternative name for CS could have been Mary Hinge...
