not exactly the same scenario, but one time (in a neighboring city to where this took place) a car crashed into the second story of a building. My mom texted me the news article when i was on the train... later on the subsequint busride I looked up and saw the exact building where the car crashed. A hole in the second story. It was wild. I have a few friends who live in this city and saw this on the news when it was happening and kept on looking outside to see if they could see anything XD
you think if they didnt stop him when he was in the van and doing nothing but shooting millions of sparks on the street, they wouldve at least stopped him sooner when its literally next to a pump of highly flammable liquid

Tbf in my neck of the woods he would've been shot if he didn't give it up at that second car. Don't know why they didn't. He was a clear threat already.
Feel bad for the bystander that got arrested. Similar thing happened to me in Seal beach, didn't get arrested but the police forcefully took my totaled car in for investigation. It was also a chase that ended in a head onto me, shots were fired. I was sent a collection notice for $2000 for storage of that car, another $1000 for towing (to a lot 3 miles away from the crash), then a bit more just to tow it home so they stop charging more for storage. The police told me they cannot do anything about it. Hope this guy will recover quickly.
Damn, that sucks. It's just not fair sometimes, huh? How are you doing now, did insurance pay for the car or did you perhaps get back on your feet with no help from them?
@@itsnetts Doing great, thanks for asking. A month before the crash, I downgraded my insurance to 1-way since i was young, broke, and thinking nothing bad ever happened for all the years I've been driving. Of course the other dude had no insurance, no job either. He was drunk and had 2 kids inside. Figured I didn't want to waste my time going to court because I just started my career. The only thing I'm pissed at now is how the police handled things, especially the one that opened fire into the car from the rear passenger side, he was lucky that he missed both of the kids by mere inches.
I'm positive you guys have no clue that police are deciding to back off and not pursue dangerous evasion techniques. Police training is incredibly lack-luster, but vehicle training is a different story. Most departments train in their lots doing maneuvers every month and make it mandatory for every officer to attend and pass tests. Too many people have died due to incompetent driving from police in the past, so it's one of the few things most US police are very well trained in. They absolutely knew his obvious moves, and did the right thing to not push the pursuit to be more dangerous. Just as a source, I did ECU tuning for my city's LEO high-pursuit vehicles for a few years, I got to attend their training seminars on numerous occasions and even got to participate. You'd be surprised that most of the techniques used were avoidance and de-escalation. The PIT-maneuver (TVI) is a last-resort technique for an era before learning that de-escalation works 99% of the time. BSR Inc. that came up with the technique have been sued numerous times over the unsafe used of TVI. Even they have denounced the use of it in the last few years.

I feel sorry for the man who worked his butt off for it, he was so close to stopping that asshole, if it weren't for his wife grabbing him by his shirt collar and pulling him like he was a dog. Glad they got another truck, but I can tell you that man probably won't feel the same about it.
@@Initial_Gopnik Don’t get mad at the wife that guy was crazy driving around almost killing people. She probably was pulling him back because she didn’t want him to get hurt you don’t know what that other guy was capable of
I doubt the man would've been hurt too bad when he had the upper hand, if that nutjob had a gun or was seriously capable of hurting them (which he wasn't, he was unarmed), don't you think he would've pulled whatever he had on them? So that they wouldn't even try to stop him? There was obviously a bit of a struggle in the house as well, before they came out to the driveway. I get the legal aspect, it is California, they would've found a way to make the victim a criminal.
So many (young and jobless) people are laughing at this chase while many responsible car owners got fcked especially the truck owner. "dOnT wOrRy, iNsUrAnCe wILL cOv-" STFU. First of all, the pathetic loser of a criminal won't be held liable due to most likely not having insurance and the lax Cali laws. Second, insurance companies are shady af and some may raise monthly premiums just because a subspecies of a human decided to fck up everyone's day.
I watched this in real time. It’s definitely one of the craziest chases I’ve ever seen. The unlucky van owner is a florist and he uses it for deliveries. The truck owners are landscapers. They both had gofundme’s and the van owner got a new used van and the landscapers got a new used truck. They are both small business owners.
as a proud landscaper myself, I 100% feel for those truck owners. having something like this happen would be devastating to anyone, and knowing that the truck was probably highly important for their work must have been terrifying. Innocent businesses just trying to make a living and lend a hand to people in need getting screwed over by this guy's joyride
On the plus side, the owner started a gofund me so he can recoup the cost of his materials and car and got over $120,000. LAPD told him he can't get his car and tools back since it's evidence.
I kept thinking the same thing. Worried about that poor guy losing his work truck and his tools. Not to mention having his house invaded by a crazy man!

Love how the guy in the helicopter was like "i think this is where it ends, i hate to say it" but corrects himself, like NAH you know you were having fun
Imagine going through an almost hour long car chase, stealing two cars, breaking and entering, causing thousands of dollars in damage, and ultimately ending by being cornered at a gas station. You get shot and your like “well shit this is the end of the line.” Then they pull you out and you look over and see a random dude who’s not related in any way to the chase getting roughed up and arrested. I’d be flabbergasted at that point.
Imagine the giga brain you'd think he has if getting that innocent driver arrested was his actual master plan all along, and it went all according to plan.
@Dirty Monkey again though. What can you do without breaking protocol. Besides the good size amount of fuck ups from the cops, they can't exactly gta him
Knowing the chase is an hour and forty minutes long, I just kept wondering “how does he get out of this one?” and he escaped so many times, to the point where I thought he would even get out of that last situation.
As a Californian, I am very surprised with how attentive the rest of the drivers were. Also surprised no civilians with road rage followed him with a bat in the trunk or worse
At the end were those cars trying to stop him? Because they just let there cars get hit instead of pulling to the side or making that right turn. Then you got the Benz that just was all parked the way out at the red light whose lucky his entire front end didn’t get smashed in because he didn’t wanna back up when the next car behind him was 20 feet away.
Not only is this chase absolutely crazy, but so is the editing the news station put into this. It's wild to think of how many people were part of this and watched it in real time. Hopefully the people who got their vehicles stolen are compensated for what happened
@Phuck King except your just making stuff up because youve “heard” of people just being let out all the time Meanwhile ignoring the million who have several years if not decades in prison
How is nobody else mentioning how the commentator and Charlie are LITERALLY riffing off of each other as if they were in a phone call together during this entire chase. Watch how Charlie will say something and then the reporter will be like yeah I know right? Or when they both were mentioning a head on collision would have not been ideal at the same exact moment. It’s uncanny
I love these police chases. And the live commentary from the guy adds to the mood. This chase is probably the most interesting thing they've seen this week
I think this was their second chase that day. Grew up in LA, this stuff is like a daily occurrence there. It’s like a sporting event for Los Angeles residents
I always say that drivers today suck and are always distracted but as Charlie said they are weaving out of this way. The calmness of the drivers is insane.
I've seen some insanely calm drivers when I've been to California. I was in an Uber a few years back and a crash happened in front of us while we were on the freeway. She didn't react, she just drove around.
I mean driving isn’t hard and when you think about it most people actually do drive well. It’s just the handful of morons that make it seem like there are more dumb drivers than there really are.
It’s because we’re used to it. I’ve lived in California my whole life and these types of things happen daily. Even just driving near LA at night, people fly by going 100+
One thing to remember about pursuits too is we're seeing it from the air, and so it's super easy to see and follow the guy. On the ground you have to contend with every block and obstacle the guy they're chasing does, so because he's driving so erratically it's really difficult to plot a proper intercept course.
As someone unlucky (and lucky to not get hit on a one lane road) enough to be a part of this 1:06:20 on the original video. What the video doesn't show is the 20+ different cop cars part of the pursuit. You can see them pull up at the end, but they were behind the whole time. So you could imagine the lights and noise as I'm just trying to get home. Truly unreal and something I won't forget.
I live in the area where it happened. All you could hear was cop sirens and the helicopters flying over. Turned on the news and saw all this. I’m happy nobody got hurt. I also hope that the families get some payback.
I'm so glad your talking about the innocent man who was treated rougher than the actual criminal. I really do hope he gets a decent payday out of this.
i would rather get roughed up than get shot lmfao edit: i have news everyone. neanderthals didnt go exist. there are people stupid enough to think i was saying the victim had a would you rather or that there was a choice here. this should EASILY go without saying, but i was pointing out that the victim in fact was not treated worse than the criminal. i know this may be heavy hitting news, but please stay calm.

I'm really surprised they didn't open fire when he was ramming their car. At that point, they can shoot you. He's not even black, so there is nothing to worry about if they killed him. I'd like to know the WHOLE story to this.
Yeah that bit in the deadend in the suburb was so weird, do they not have tire spikes they just drop out their door? Because that would have been it if they did Also why tf did they ram him into a civilian car at the end after he had been imobilised, and why tf did they then start shooting, his car was stuck and he had nowhere to run
@@Cheesepuff8 I feel like at that point they realized that he was willing to do anything to get out of that situation, and if he was able to escape with the car *again* he could kill someone on the road. Also, they’re American cops so they’re a little loosey goosey with discharging their guns.
I don't understand why they didn't shoot out the tires of the van they surrounded... They literally let him go where he could possibly kill a family on the road when they had him. What kind of police are these? Stupid af
They had him in the palm of their hands, and just watched him take several minutes to make a 56 point turn. You cant convince me they didn't just let him go, they could've had him trapped in a number of ways. He couldn't even ram them because hes in a van with no way to build momentum.
That guy wouldn’t have been held back when the perpetrator showed up to steal his car. Would’ve been dealt with then and there. Bless our stand your ground laws lol
Long wheel base, single rear wheels, and open diff make those vans super easy to slide, but yeah a couple times it was just like he was trying to show off lol
Hey Charlie. My mother is a prosecutor and I grew up in law enforcement communities and have even worked for the DAs office myself. For the civilians, in that situation, the best thing to do is to get away as much as possible and safely as possible or put your car in reverse and give room to the cops. If you must, get out of your vehicle, stay ducked down and get to the furthest building away and get inside. If the suspect has gotten out of their vehicle, stay inside your car and duck down to the best of your ability. You never know if someone will shoot and if they do you have a better chance of surviving if you duck down.
I live in Memphis TN, so you should be able to understand how much crime we get. Memphis is currently #2 on top crime cities, with Kansas City MO at #1 as of last year. We’ll of course have to wait till January to find out who it is now but Memphis stays in the top 3-5 every year
Also, in response to the other thing about cops chasing, in most cities they’re not allowed to protect civilians and cops. A lot of cops die from chases

I am convinced this was all an elaborate filming for a movie or something

If you must, get out of your vehicle, stay ducked down and get to the furthest building away and get inside. If the suspect has gotten out of their vehicle, stay inside your car and duck down to the best of your ability.
