You really need to ease yourself into riding a fast bike. I've owned 4 bikes (100cc, 125cc, and 2x 175cc) none of which you'd call fast. One day I did a test-ride of a 650 and nearly killed myself. I took it easy at first and then got to a long straight (B-road) and decided to go full throttle. I nearly fell off the back of the bike with the combination of balance, G-Force, wind effects, etc. You don't really get that physicality when you go full throttle in a car. So ease up to it.
biggest regret i had about passing my bike test at 26 was that i never did it at 17...years wasted, stay safe, its great fun and as a car driver it will make you significantly more aware of bikers now
Congrats...now I wonder if it will make you a better driver as it did for me with all the awareness of surroundings because of the bike knowledge that you will acquire :-) :-) :-)
Agree.. because while riding a bike all ur 6 sense work together as per my knowledge... Because you are totally exposed to the surrounding opposite of the car...
Agree, I remember when I did my CBT thinking that this should be compulsory for all car drivers to give them an appreciation of how vulnerable you are on two wheels.
In my experience, learning to ride a motorbike made me a better driver. Observation, anticipation and planning are vital on a bike if you want to stay safe.
This is sick. I am currently training for my mod 1 and mod 2 myself so would love to see how you get along. Great content that i am looking forward to.
Most important thing when riding is don’t over estimate your ability and if riding with other guys that are quicker, don’t try and keep up. Ride your own pace if they are faster, they are faster, have fun and stay safe 🤘
Things must be a lot different now as when my generation got our first bikes or scooters we just went straight on the roads, no CBT and loved it, not scary or worried just great fun and still riding today and still get the same feelings from it!
I've been on the back of my dad's bike since I was about 6yrs old. So when I turned 24 this year, the first thing I did was get my biking lessons for literally a dream coming true. Nice one, I'll follow this with interest. I started with Aprilia RS50s, RS125s (wrote off both of them) Kawasaki 636, Yamaha FZ6, Yamaha R1. A fast bike is pretty bloody alarming when it's shaking its head and lifting the front wheel. Ride safe, baby steps..

Good on you mate well done. I've had my bike license for just under 2 years now and I'm loving it. I'm on just allowed now to ride any size bike I want. Here in New South Wales, Australia you must do a pre learners course which is 7 hours over 2 days, then you must pass a knowledge test before you can get a learners permit. You must be on the learners (L plates) for a min of 3 months and max 12 before you progress to a Provisional licence (red P plates) which last for 12 months. If you're under 25 and or have had a license less than 5 years you must then go on green P's for 2 years. Then you're a full license holder and can ride anything.
As an experienced biker and ex racer., it's easier as you move on to a 500 + bike. You will get there and then when you passionately start to learn. Your going to experience speed and excelleration like never before. My advice to you is always, always go in to a corner knowing your going to get out of it, slow in fast out until your skills improve. Good look and be safe.

They say it’s really good for your health because of how it relaxes you. You will grow to love it. No waiting in traffic when you really need to get somewhere. Good luck

Absolutely fantastic Paul, you have unwittingly just reinvigorated not only your channel but yourself as well, as you progress through your lessons and on to your own bikes you will realise that not even tens of thousands of pounds of Lamborghini can give you the same buzz as a motorcycle. It’s a whole different world not only personally but socially as well, you will never be lonely as a biker. For what it’s worth for somebody who has never touched a motorbike you were doing exceedingly well. Just take your time, be smooth and look where you want to go. Good luck on your fantastic two wheeled journey and hope to see you on a 1000cc superbike in the future 😉 Your best video to date
In Romania for motorcycle school ( at least at the school i've been) we have 18 hours in poligon motorcycle doing all sort of manevrability exercises .. in the last 2 the instructor will evaluate you if the can let you for traffic hours ( 8 hours of traffic) and at the end of those 8 again evaluation ..+ in traffic the instructor will be your passenger.
From a 50+ year veteran of motorcycling, I think you appeared to be doing quite well. My only advice is to ingrain your visual 'scanning' as it will serve you well on 4wheels, and get hold of the speed at which conventional steering ceases to work and "counter-steering" is required to change direction. Once you have that imprinted in your instinctive memory you will not be one of those riders who reacts to something unexpected in a turn and crosses the oncoming lane to either hit a car/truck or, if you're lucky, just go off the tarmac on the other side.
Awesome, doing well so far!!💪 Enjoy the ride ,take your time and progress at a chilled pace, because once you get better to the 1000cc it's a different ball game(cant stress how fun it is!)Also try different cc bikes, see which one suite you.My favorite is my speed triple rs 1050 cc and Yamaha mt09, etc Ride safe!

welcome to the club! riding a bike is a different type of ecstasy! once youve been riding for a little bit all of the controls become second nature, just like driving...its super easy after a while. riding a bike is so much more enjoyable when your on anything bigger than a 125..

I feel you, I had the same issues. Being a car driver then trying to ride a bike..its hard. I'm guessing it Will take time for all those individuals controlls to become natural and muscle memory. I also found it hard not dumping the clutch and having all my extremities working at the same time. Didn't know which foot to put down first and when to drop down gears when coming to a stop.
I agree with #jerrycan, passing my bike test really opened my eyes as a car driver, to not only look out for bikes but be more aware. My instructor taught me to look OUT. O=Over U=Under T=Thru... advice that will stay with me forever. Welcome to two wheels SOL, stay safe.
I should have done it when i was younger. Im 45 and went for it. CBT, Theory, MOD1 & MOD2 done in less than a month. Then bought a GSXR 1000. Don't regret it one bit. Love the bike. Just gotta respect any bike regardless.
personally, i think that all car drivers should do a mandatory CBT, that way, they can have a small understanding of what it is like to be on two wheels. My first time on a motorway was doing the ring of red on the m25 (ride of respect, remembrance Sunday) on a 125. Enjoy the motorbike life if you chose to continue with it :)
You as a car driver will bringing your car driving roadcraft with you and will need to adapt a bit for the world of biking. One thing many car drivers (or road planners) don't tend to consider to much is the condition of the road surface for biking. You're not just looking out for potholes. Loose chipping, leaves, slick road surfaces, cracks in between motorway lanes and wet surfaces especially with painted white lines and any metal (manhole/service) covers. If any of those are on corners be especially careful. When you eventually meet any of those the experience will be firmly imprinted but just thought you should get a heads up.
A tip that helped me shifting, put some slight pressure on the gear lever, slowly pull on the clutch and it will shift gears very smoothly and not make that "clunking" noise, but that might come later. :)
Just recently completed my unrestricted bike license and one of the best things I’ve done although I’m still yet to find a bike. I do however wish I’d have seen this video prior to give me that extra kick to get it done sooner, it was a awesome video to come across.
Haha awesome man! I got my first one too! Motorcycles are a completely different world. Bieng on 2 wheels is 10 times more satisfying than any car in my opinion! Safe riding brother!
This is a great video Paul. I’m 33 and never been into bikes but for some reason I have an itch that I need to scratch regrading bikes. It’s a great insight on the process. Just need to convince my wife now! 👍
Welcome to the world of Two wheels. Riding Bikes is very different to driving cars. As long as you ride within YOUR LIMITS("You Are Not Valentino Rossi"), You should be fine. Remember though how much you noticed Bikes before you started this adventure. Always be observant and make sure you can either Stop or Escape any situation that arises, including those behind you.
Humble Man I had a 57 plate 600rr, the only thing I didn’t like about it was that it had a shortened wheel base, so when going motorway speeds I found it too lively, as in too bouncy, but then I only had that 6 weeks and then someone pulled out in front of me 👎🏻, , saying that, that’s when I replaced it with an 07 fireblade
I'm glad your trying something new. I was introduced the motorcycling with my roommate, that had a Suzuki GSXR 600 and he had friends that rode, so I got my endorsement and bought a Honda VFR 500 to start out with. After I got pretty good at riding, I traded for a Suzuki SV1000F , what a difference in power. You are going to love riding Paul, it's a totally different experience, it will put a big smile on your face! 😁
Like everyone else said, welcome to the world of wheels. Pay attention and be careful, if you fuck up the consequences are rather large. I love cars, I love fast cars, but there is something about bikes a car will never give me.
Paul you have a massive learning curve ahead of you, you're awareness on the rd will be so much more than in a car and mentally tiring, especially if you end up riding race replicas, you will love it but getting out of hand takes fractions of seconds, they are awsome rapid machines
I know the feeling Man, i have just bought my first mopad...an Aprilia RX50 from 2008 to be exact. It’s more like a dirt bike for the road. I don’t have my licence yet...but i can fortunately ride in my street.
Feel your pain, I just bought a Tenere 700, recieved it yesterday. Rode with a friend once before that and now I have a 200+kg adventure bike in my garage. Never took any courses (although I rode scooters a lot in Asia), it's really nerve wraking having to think about all the clutch and brake and gears etc + the road condition and traffic. I'll get there but damn if I'm not shitting myself everytime I take the bike out :)
Welcome onboard lad! I've been a car nut for years and only been riding for about five. It's good to have the option to go up a twisty road with two or four wheels. You'll love it.
Congratulations, I wish you well with it and perhaps do not even worry about filming until you get all of your testing done and then maybe make a few films where you just ride with just the sounds of the bike and I think it would be quite enjoyable for us to enjoy a bike ride.. Approximately 40. Years ago I got my license here in Wisconsin.I was licensed to ride any size bike and I decided to buy a 650 or 750 and I had 2 things that happened that caused me never to ride again I was licensed and scared spotless. Trying out a new bike I got hit by a stone in the face shield that was large enough to snap my head back but I managed to slow up and stop on the side. A few days later I was trying out a used 750cc bike and it caught on fire in the engine area, another words right between my legs and I got stopped and away from the bike and watched wiring burn completely out of the bike. There is more to the story but after that I never rode again I felt God was trying to tell me something. But I-wish you well because it’s quite enjoyable .
Awesome! Enjoy!!! Been riding for many years, love cars and motorcycles. You'll find you are a better driver once you have some miles under you on the bike too. The skills work both ways and it's a great way to get out there.
I've been thinking about this for a while, and like you I love cars and some what afraid to delve into the world of two wheels, but Paul you're inspiring and I think I might push past the fear and give it a go. Hopefully others will be inspired. I love all your videos keep up the great work.
It was 28 years since I last rode but in march I bought myself a new Honda CB650R at the age of 52, my 911 has been out of the garage only twice since then the bike is so pure and exhilarating makes the Porsche feel tame
Wait until you start learning on a big bike and the first time you get to open it up, did my full licence aged 48 and love it. Found the big bike easier to ride. Good luck
Remember if you ride bang in the centre of the road the likelihood of punctures is high as that's between the car tracks and gathers crap there. Little more towards the centre line, say where the right hand set of car tyres go.
I brought my first motorbike earlier this year, having never been on one before. It's quite a daunting task, but once you get to grips with it, it's worth doing. Looking forward to future content.
Awesome. I passed all tests at 31 (first time no pressure) You have the road sense and life preservation aspect at or around that age (for me anyway) 7 years later later never dropped a bike or crashed. However my bike instructor said there’s 2 kinds of motorcyclists. Those who have crashed and those who are about to crash. you’ve got to accept one day you will in the mean time stay safe.
Nice one Paul and welcome to two wheels! I love my cars but bikes are my first love, been riding for 38 years. You’ll love it when your confidence grows and it’ll make you a better driver too. Looking forward to some more bike content.
After a few months you will ride like you drive without even thinking about brakes and clutch etc it will com natural. Just make sure you always look ahead a lot further than in a car and look through the bends before you get to them. This I promise is such a basic thing but will make you ride so much better.
Welcome to the club, that video brought back all the memories from mt cbt and das training, I feel stressed now! It wasn't until a few days in that I really started to enjoy it once things started to feel more natural. There is going to be the temptation to get a fireblade or something but for the road you will have way more fun on something like a cbr650r which you can push harder without doing stupid speeds.
Great stuff Paul, just starting to learn myself. Had 20 years experience driving a car and 14 in a truck. Now the two wheel adventure has begun. CBT and theory done and raring to go. Best of luck with your mod 1 and 2
Yep why not but I must have missed many things: what happens with you becoming a pro drift car driver ? What about your drift project car ? What about your daily driver that you were looking for at a point ? Weren't you suppose to go on road trip with the lambo too ? I am a bit lost with the direction taken by this channel to be honest.
Welcome to the world of two wheels. Wait till you try a fast bike. It's a buzz beyond a car. I'm a bike and car nut.
Cars are awesome but as you've said until you ride a superbike you never truly know acceleration.
You really need to ease yourself into riding a fast bike. I've owned 4 bikes (100cc, 125cc, and 2x 175cc) none of which you'd call fast. One day I did a test-ride of a 650 and nearly killed myself.
Yes Paul!
I should have done it when i was younger.
Im 45 and went for it. CBT, Theory, MOD1 & MOD2 done in less than a month.
Then bought a GSXR 1000. Don't regret it one bit. Love the bike. Just gotta respect any bike regardless.
At 42yrs old I just did my cbt recently and I bought a cb125r to commute. Best thing I've ever done and look forward to doing my full test next year
i just got my cbt and have been learning on a 125, really enjoying it just need to stay safe :)
personally, i think that all car drivers should do a mandatory CBT, that way, they can have a small understanding of what it is like to be on two wheels.
We need more videos on it
A tip that helped me shifting, put some slight pressure on the gear lever, slowly pull on the clutch and it will shift gears very smoothly and not make that "clunking" noise, but that might come later. :)
Well done Paul, very best of luck with your full bike test.
Gonna be sick having a bike and the lambo. The bikes are so much fun once you get use to everything.
Just recently completed my unrestricted bike license and one of the best things I’ve done although I’m still yet to find a bike.
I do however wish I’d have seen this video prior to give me that extra kick to get it done sooner, it was a awesome video to come across.
100 points for not having any bravado and being honest about the fear factor.
Well done man👍🏼 keep at it, cars are fun but bikes are next level adrenaline, just wait until you get on a big bike👌🏼
Honda tempting all the you tubers onto two wheels, I had a cb125r for just over a year and then recently got my cb650r love it!
Honda CBR all the way 👍🏻 I’ve had a Fireblade, now currently own a 600, welcome to 2 wheels, you can record it, Sena 10c pro.....
yep cbr is great,even i had two of them (2018 250rr,2012 600rr)
Good man! Loving it. But you need a Ducati. 😉
You did so well! Welcome to the world of free souls
1 year later : "good morning guys welcome back to superbikes of london"
and today on the channel, my bike was stolen. ;)
Well done to you for taking the plunge! I nearly did 19 years ago, but chose not too! That was great fun to watch and good luck with it all!
Soooooo happppy about this direction. I did my test about three years back aged 46. Never looked back! Love it!
Welcome onboard lad! I've been a car nut for years and only been riding for about five. It's good to have the option to go up a twisty road with two or four wheels. You'll love it.
Welcome to the world of 2 wheels. I love getting to jumping on my bike and the feeling is so different to a car
Not a fan of motorbikes, but love to watch these kind of videos. And big respect for trying it for the first time and recording on yt. Great content!
Congrats! It's been 35 years since I rode, I've been thinking of getting back into bikes. Thanks for some motivation 👍
I'm thinking about doing the same thing, this is such a handy video, thanks man
After a few months you will ride like you drive without even thinking about brakes and clutch etc it will com natural. Just make sure you always look ahead a lot further than in a car and look through the bends before you get to them. This I promise is such a basic thing but will make you ride so much better.
Best of luck. Love bikes and the buzz they give you. A way of getting supercar acceleration for a fraction of the money 😁🤘
NICE! I started riding this summer after getting a MSX125 and it has been a blast!
welcome to the expensive and fun world of motor bikes
Welcome to the club, that video brought back all the memories from mt cbt and das training, I feel stressed now! It wasn't until a few days in that I really started to enjoy it once things started to feel more natural. There is going to be the temptation to get a fireblade or something but for the road you will have way more fun on something like a cbr650r which you can push harder without doing stupid speeds.
Welcome to the club, it will be the best thing you've ever done, see you at the TT next year 👍
Riding is the best thing ever. Enjoy.
Well done Paul. Cudos to you for having a go. I passed my MC test 55 years ago and still love it!!
Great stuff Paul, just starting to learn myself. Had 20 years experience driving a car and 14 in a truck. Now the two wheel adventure has begun. CBT and theory done and raring to go. Best of luck with your mod 1 and 2
I can imagine pal , I passed mine but 1 think I will never forget is the frst blow of wind on my face when I went to 40 miles an hours
i can’t wait to get a bike when i’m older 😁
Yep why not but I must have missed many things: what happens with you becoming a pro drift car driver ? What about your drift project car ? What about your daily driver that you were looking for at a point ? Weren't you suppose to go on road trip with the lambo too ? I am a bit lost with the direction taken by this channel to be honest.
Welcome, your ride has just begun.
Just got mine! Good luck man, its going to be scary.
