That was part of his style, to take old jokes from long ago and repackage them and many people were none the wiser. He did that at the Bob Saget roast. He didn't want to use the kind of crude bits that everyone else was using on his friend so he used a bunch of old Dad jokes and made it look like he was bombing. Those who knew what he was doing thought it was hilarious. Also for those who don't know what Conan was saying when he was playing the old time radio announcer, the Chestersheel figanuts was a riff on Chesterfield cigarettes.
The entire purpose of him doing old Henny Youngman jokes was to set up the dirty joke. He didn’t do those in his act. He was intentionally lulling the crowd and Conan and Andy into a stupor just to make the impact of his real joke greater. People don’t give Norm enough credit for his writing and mastery of the craft because his style always makes you think he’s just winging it. Every word is fine-tuned.
Norm is a wild man lol. His stand up, his interviews, and even the stories that people have of Norm are just wild. He was unique and brilliant. Glad we have video to help us remember and relive those moments. Always enjoy your reactions! Can't go wrong with Norm.
I'm so happy you reacted to this, it's one of my favorite Norm moments ever, it's got the deeply closeted joke and the wife in a coma is just the cherry on top
There will never be another Norm. He was either telling the funniest jokes or he would troll, just so it would be even funnier than a traditional joke. RIP not only the funniest man in history, but the most down to Earth, humble and honest comic in history.
@@ThoughtfulVoyager i think the joke was... it was expected him to give her oral sex so she would wake up, but instead he made her give him oral sex. .. i think ? not sure
Episode aired on Rodney's death anniversary (not sure why anyone would celebrate the man's death). Norm was not going through a phase, he was knowingly paying tribute.
Highly recommend the book, it is a fictional autobiography but is littered with some great insights and some true stories. He weaves his past with the present and embellishes and adds funny shit, obviously, but you never really feel confused or question what or when he is talking about, but a great funny read but at the same time opening up and showing how profound Norm really was. One of one for sure.
The book is next level comedy. I never laughed so hard within the confines of literature. Plus he narrates it and it's just a magical story. True stuff btw. But for the folks at home, be sure to buy it. That way his estate can keep power going to his tombstone, so that big neon sign beside it spelling out " Be Sad Now!" remains lit.
Conan and David Letterman were the two hosts that were actually great at being funny while bringing the best out of their guests. Norm’s stuff with Letterman is just as good as the Conan ones and he actually did the final standup set on Letterman’s final show.
This and the Oscar stories are my favorite of all time. My favorite line "Ya dirty dog!" - You have awesome reactions! You get a great laugh out of it and don't stop it every 30 seconds to explain what we just saw.
I'd seen that before so I watched the wheels spinning after "Doc, she's choking". Norm's mid-century humor reminds me of what Danny Kaye said about his wife. "Her favorite place is beside herself and her favorite activity is jumping to conclusions."
I’ve watched this interview so many times, and I truly think what Norm is doing is “Inception” levels of comedy. I’d love to hear Conan break this down line by line some day.
I remember Andy Richter on Conan’s podcast episode where they were remembering Norm he described Norm’s long jokes as “being taken through a long walk through the woods just to show us a turd”, and that when he told Norm that he giggled like a mischievous kid.
"Settle down", haha! Okay, I get it, Conan can be very funny. Plus Norm is completely mellow, almost lackadaisical, but somehow, yes, he needed to settle down.
That coma joke almost went so far over your head that it would have interrupted a satellite's orbit, JK(pun intended)!😂 One of my favorite Norm bits. Do you have any George Carlin bits forthcoming? ✌️☮️🤙🤟👊🔥❤️
Conan and Letterman figured out early that when Normie got a head of steam going, it was best just to ride it out and let Norm take it to the finish line. The man had a devilish grin like few others when doing bits that he loved.
You are so right about Conan being masterfull at bringing the best out of his guests and when he had the most geinous commedian that we know of as a guest, sparks flew.
Norm's burns of OJ which got him fired from SNL were legendary. The only presenter on TV that called him a murderer during the trial, repeatedly! There's a comp of those jokes. You should check it out!
you gotta see the chairman of the board one LOL or when he went on the view and pissed off all the hosts Also, I just wanted to say you are unbelievably beautiful. I'm kinda stunned tbh but I'm also correct.
I love his delivery of the lines like "ya dirty dog" and "I said by God" they kill me every time.
😂😂😂
@@Complication84 his wife was a real battle axe.
So glad you reacted to this!! Norm MacDonald is one of the only comedians who can pull out the corniest jokes, and make them hysterical.
So true

Next up: the Moth joke!

" Doc, she's choking." I told that to everybody at work on a coffee break and it killed. Them guys laugh the rest of the day.
As a Canadian, he made me so proud. We are the best at self deprecating humour! Your reaction was the best!
Norm was doing his best Rodney Dangerfield impression. 🤣
Absolutely.
I’ve seen this clip 100 times and it still makes me laugh every time. This is the best delayed reaction I’ve ever seen. 😂
😂😂😂😂
It's a great book. And the audiobook is read by Norm himself!

The book is phenomenal.
"Doc, she's choking!" Damn, that's great joke writing.
Can you please explain the joke

Norm doing Rodney, absolutely priceless!
I watch Norm UA-cam clips on repeat, I've probably seen this 50 times and it's still hilarious.
SAme here. Nice to see Maddy laugh.
Always loved Norm's style! Thanks for this one!
I love norm's moth joke so much, I always keep going back to rewatch it for years already.
Norm was savage.
This was Norm's Rodney Dangerfield phase.
Yep when he says,"I'll tell ya." Sounded just like Rodney
Episode aired on Rodney's death anniversary (not sure why anyone would celebrate the man's death). Norm was not going through a phase, he was knowingly paying tribute.
Conan is a great straight man for Norm. Perfect team.
Appreciate this reaction choice
“That’s modern medicine for ya.” 😂 Best comedian, all-time.

Norm was the GOAT!!! His type of humor was and still is unmatched!
Agreed
He was a genius.. His comedy and deep intelligence went underappreciated for so long..
5:25 when it finally clicks she’s dying 😆
Took you a soliddd minute to get the “she’s choking” joke. Was so great 😂😂
🤣
You are very correct. Conan is so damn good. Last actual late night talk show host. Nothing but love for that man.
This is basically a Rodney Dangerfield routine. Including the “I tell ya, I tell ya!”
Right!!

Norms book is the best "memoir" ive ever read. A masterpiece
Wow!
These jokes will hit hard in 2035
I agree with you on Conan being the funnest late night show comic... especially nowadays!!
Yess
One of my favorite comedians of all time...miss his great comedy!!! Thanks!!
God bless ya. Your face lit up when that joke hit you. That was so worth watching. You have a beautiful laugh.

YES 😂😂 My favourite Conan & Norm bit 😂👍
And there's a whole lot to choose from. Those 2 worked so well together, Conan generally the straight man.
I’ve been watching Conan since the late 90’s as a kid. I’d stay up just to watch his show especially when he has certain guests (my celeb crushes) 😂
This and the Oscar stories are my favorite of all time. My favorite line "Ya dirty dog!" - You have awesome reactions! You get a great laugh out of it and don't stop it every 30 seconds to explain what we just saw.
Glad you like them!
Get his audiobook. He reads it and it's incredible with his voice and delivery
I need to!?

This is Norm doing Rodney lol
What a perfect day: Bowie my favourite artist and Norm my favourite comedian. It was a pleasure to watch the penny drop at the end.

His book is so good. The audio book is even better bc he narrates it.
'Ya dirty dog'. Conan's reaction: nobody's said that since 1946.
Norm had the ability to draw out really old jokes and make them funny. Some of his best stuff was done with Conan.
His book is absolutely hilarious and if you'd rather listen to it than read it he actually does the narration of the audio book version. Recommended.
This channel...it's a Real Maddy Reacts.

Norm is one of the rare gems!

I have norms book on audible.. its funny as heck. He narrates it too which makes it even funnier!
I really want to!
I tell that joke, the "Choking" one, and nobodies ever heard it!
Zipper down middle.❤
Listen to the audiobook he narrates it! Helps with the cadence n’at
Norm was the comics comic. They all have stories of Norm
His book is a completely fictional autobiography.
this was Norm's tribute to Dangerfield ❤
This is as good as great comedy gets

Awesome reaction. Norm is absolutely hilarious rip. And you have like the best smile ever. Keep doing funny videos

Wait for it...WAIT for iiit....THERE IT IS!! I KNEW she'd get it!
You should do more comedy reactions. Your smile and laugh are incredibly gorgeous!
Thank you ☺️
The book is hilariously better than you would even expect it to be.
That did it for me. I subscribed. You have a great sense of humor!
Welcome aboard!
Maddy - 2nd time watching this and I heard you say “I think I want his book”. If you haven’t gotten it, you should - it’s so good 🤘🏻🇺🇸
Part of what's funny is he's telling ancient street jokes 😆I heard the "Dr's office" one 40 years ago 😷
"Dr? She's choking!
The book was a really great read, mind you.
His book is definitely worth reading.
Conan and Letterman figured out early that when Normie got a head of steam going, it was best just to ride it out and let Norm take it to the finish line.
The man had a devilish grin like few others when doing bits that he loved.
Norm has multiple books narrated by him on audible, too.
That’s amazing!
Conan's commencement address to Dartmouth College in 2011 is a classic that every Conan fan has to hear/see.
Norm was the funniest guy ever! 😂
Your doggy is soooo adorable! 😭🥰💕
☺️🩷
😂😂 Norm got away with a lot on commercial TV
Yes, but that second was priceless.

1:10 not that I don’t mind reading myself. I bet the audiobook would be even better in Norm’s voice.
The book is an interesting almost fictional, biography that reads just the way he speaks to talk show hosts.
LOL
Ya gotta love Norm. And great reaction.🤣✌️❤️🎶
"You won't hear this from many 1935 comic."
You could see your wheels turning!
you gotta see the chairman of the board one LOL or when he went on the view and pissed off all the hosts

RIP to my one of my favorite comics.
