I know the video here is about Catharsis, but first I can't help but comment on 'Daydreaming'. :) Some time ago, Kanami once said that it was her hardest song to write, but also her own favorite. And to this day, it is THE song for me that stands a notch above all the others. Because from the first time I listened to it until today, it has always appealed to me, not only audiovisually in my head, but also in a very sensitive spot in my chest. I just love this song and I can listen to it again and again and it just hits me like the first time.... Which brings me back to 'Catharsis'. :) This performance is part of a very special 'Christmas present' that the ladies gave us in 2021 when they streamed this acoustic concert with 14 songs on December 25th. And even today, a good 2 years later, I can say without a second thought that it is by far one of the best presents I've ever received. ❤🔥🤘🏻

Couldn't agree more....boggles any Maidiacs mind to no end.
Akane's use of hot rods (Well... the Wincent version of bundled rods) was a great choice for this concert and proves again just what a pro she is. Lighter than her regular sticks but harder than brushes, it let her have great attack without overpowering the rest of the band. This was a fantastic set with lots of surprises from the ladies. Sayonakidori was my favorite but you may want to listen to the full electric version first to really appreciate Miku's stripped down arrangement. Which ever order you choose they are both great versions of the song.
This acoustic Okyuji was the best Christmas present of all. I waited up thru the night to watch this at 3am on Christmas day.🤗 B-M chose their casual clothes on the colours of Christmas representing santa & Rudolph :)

This concert remains in the annals of Band-Maid Legends. I still listen to this concert in disbelief at what they had to do to pull this off. Sigh. Thank you, Band-Maid.

"Sayonakidori" (official live acoustic) from the same show would be a perfect follow up to "Catharsis."
sayonakidori is incredible. It's wild that they have a backup singer with that kind of a voice.

The 14 song acoustic concert that this is from was a masterpiece. And they served it up to us on xmas day 2021, dressed in their own clothes, all chosen to fit a Santa Red and Reindeer Beige theme for xmas. They performed as a 5 piece, a trio and as a duet during the gig, including Saiki, MISA and Kanami performing together, Saiki and Kanmai and the wonderful performance (available on their YT channel) of SAYONAKIDORI, with Miku on vocals and guitar, MISA on bass and Akane on drums, played with rods, not sticks, and also doing vocal harmonies! That acoustic Christmas concert is a masterpiece of arrangements. You can find it on their Band Maid Prime channel, fourteen wonderful versions of some of their songs. Without a doubt they are the most versatile band currently in rock music. Good job!
Just want to say I think it's really cool how deep you're getting into this band. Over the past 3+ years I've seen so many "metalheads" farm Band-Maid for views and I'm past the point of being able to listen to those guys pretend to like the band until the views dry up. That's all, have a great day.

I hear what you're saying. I've watched countless band maid reactions since 2014 and have seen that many times. I can tell you that I mainly listen to metal and heavier music but band maid for me is undeniable. They are unique, all extremely talented and just somehow keep evolving and getting better.
I would recommend either of my two favorite songs: Blooming (has an official video) or Corallium.
3 suggestions for you:
1. Manners/Black Hole (Live Online Concert) Manners is my favorite, but Black Hole is mind blowing.
2. Blooming (MV). One of their best compositions. Used for a great movie car chase.
3. Wonderland (Live). Jazzy. A little reserved. Vocal showpiece. Incredible drum work.
The acoustic show is really special.
This was from a streamed Christmas Acoustic Concert. I don’t believe the music is available for streaming, but the CD is available from time to time in the members section of their online store.
If you join Band-Maid Prime, you can watch the whole concert with and without the bands comments.
It is well worth it.

So glad that you're going to listen to the album version. No spoilers, but you'll hear how amazing the original is and then realize what an incredible job they did in arranging to an acoustic. There's a live version on YT that someone uploaded from a DVD, so maybe best to avoid that one. But you probably already know that all their recorded albums are available on their official channel (Catharsis is from Conqueror).

This track has Miku, Misa and Akane. Really showcases Miku's beautiful vocals (and the build up to a very high note - I was holding my breath and willing her to reach it) and her very good acoustic guitar work
Best Christmas gift ever. During covid, and like a ray of light in the darkness, here they come with this legendary acoustic show.
Check for the 3x versions of Puzzle. The Saiki/Kanami acoustic is beautiful.

This was a great start toXmas day 2021. The whole set was wonderful. This band is s o versatile. I thinkthis was the first time I recognized that Saiki was not just a good singer but a great one. Props to all the ladies and especially Kanami who I believe transcribed all these rock songs into acoustic versions and then the rest of the band adding/amending for their particular instrument
The whole Christmas Day acoustic Okyu-Ji was just fantastic, and the version that was available on the long archive ticket with the maid's commentary was hilarious. Catharsis is in my top 20 Band-Maid songs, the live version on the World Domination tour DVD is awesome (as you'd expect).
The whole streamed concert was fantastic. It happened shortly after I discovered them.
Do Sayonakidori acoustic next, for no other reason than it is my favorite Band-Maid song

Saiki shines so bright in these acoustic settings! A beautiful rendition of this song! You really need to do the original electric version!
Miku's quiet and modest presence stands out. And a beautiful girl-like singing voice that complements Saiki's powerful singing voice. The amazing skills of Akane, MISA and Kanami's acoustic playing techniques are restrained!
This concert was one of the musical highlights of my life. In the midst of grief and isolation during that Christmas this was ashot of hope and beauty. 😊
I should be sleeping after 16 hours of transit back from Tokyo, but I'm glad your learning so much about these ladies and I'm here for it. And I'm over the moon to announce while I was there, I was selected in the overseas lottery for the Day of Maid show on May 10th at Zepp Haneda. Looks like Reavesie boy is getting a travel mate, lol
After the Kanami video how about an acoustic duet with Saiki and Kanami. They play Puzzle and Anemone with Kanami singing backing vocals.
When you get to the acoustic of 'Forward' from this same set, you'll see Akane-san using a cajon with the windchimes next to her! :D
For Kanami I would recommend the instrumental "Without Holding Back", white room edition, or "Onset" live or white room.

You may already know this, but most of their album tracks are on their UA-cam channel under the "Releases" tab as playlists. The original *"Catharsis"* is track 13 in the "Conqueror" playlist (titled カタルシス). There's no music video so you'll have to suffer through looking at Miku's picture from the album cover. It's cool to compare and contrast the atmospheric album version with the cool guitar solo to the acoustic version. The most amazing thing about this band is how much they continue to surprise you, over and over.
It's one thing to fall into rabbit holes, it's next level when you are welcomed warmly among the fandom,

The album version of this is crazy different. I’d also suggest the live electric version of Sayonakidori, followed by the acoustic version of that song from this same concert. The acoustic is on Band Maids page and the official live is out there… others have reacted to it. I mean it’s on UA-cam somewhere, lol, but I don’t have the link.
Thank you for your reaction. I remember listen through all albums and was somewhat overwhelmed and didn’t really remember Catharsis that well. When I saw this version I went back to listen through the original and really love it too. At the end of the album, that I really like, the last 4 songs, this one included, gives imho extra edge to the album. I like to listen to Band Maid per album and if you are going to do Catharsis, no official mv but the music is available on their youtube page, I also suggest the official mv for Blooming which is the next song on the album and then, there is Rinne… Have fun! :)

@@JustDunk I actually made a MIDI cover of this acoustic version of Catharsis last year. Acoustic guitars are hard to render in MIDI, but I think it came out ok.
"At the Drop of a Hat" and "Page" from the same concert will give you goosebumps from start to finish. All the girls are on backing vocals on "Page". Well worth a gig whether you do a reaction or not.

Just a suggestion... your subscribers wouldn't have any issues with you doing 2fers regarding any of the acoustic songs... doing the original version then the acoustic version. In my opinion, you'll appreciate the acoustic more when you realize how much they changed but actually stayed the same to the original.

Probably the best unplugged concert by anyone out there. 14 great rock songs rewritten for an acoustic setting. I can't think of anyone else who would do that much work without a live audience. Whenever I watch this concert, I feel bad for Akane. She always looks a little sad that she can't go full gorilla mode on any of the songs she plays on. Thanks for a great reaction.

But they only have these one-off shows lined up so far this year. No real touring. I wonder what's up with that. No festivals. The Warning are all over the place. TV, their songs are on the radio still, playing festivals including one near me. 🤷🏻♂

@@JustDunk A new album was already announced for the summer 3 months ago. Before the pandemic they toured 60-70 days a year. 20 dates in 2022 and about 50 last year. You just don't know what the reasoning they or management are thinking. Just go with the flow. But talking about it is a CATHARSIS. lol 😎

The studio version is a lot faster and a touch more chaotic. This version gives me 90s alt rock vibes (Indigo Girls, Barenaked Ladles, Lisa Loeb, etc).
Please tell me you didn't just compare Band-Maid to the Barenaked Ladies... I'm Canadian and I CAN'T STAND that band whatsoever.... lol.
Now listen to the original version and appreciate how thoroughly they transformed the song into something completely different.
The Christmas concert was filmed over the course of a day in a high-rise overlooking Yokohama Bay. By the time they got around to CATHARSIS, the sun was setting. Maybe someday they will release the whole thing on DVD or CD.
If you are mesmerized by that image of KOBATO, you need to discover CLUPPO. And BAND-MAIKO.

You could do the acoustic with the studio first for each song.
Chimes are kinda a Gorilla staple. You'll see her using them in really old acoustic gigs. Cowbell, not so much. 🤣 (cough Chemical Reaction cough)

On Daydreaming, look for the Zepp Tokyo 2018 version. Trust me. You REALLY want to have that one in your playlist.
And the full on electric version of this song is just as good. Kanami's solo in it is very nice as well, but I prefer this acoustic version solo and wish they had stretched it out another 20-30 seconds.
Remember, the Ladies have almost their entire catalog available on their YT Channel under the Playlist tab, and we don't NEED to have a MV or OLV to enjoy seeing your react to their music. So if you just want to react to a song with no video, feel free to do so. I think you will be surprised with just how good and broad their catalog is.
And yes it is basically their song Catharsis that Kanami rewrote to be an acoustic song, unlike some bands who just take their full song and play it acoustically. Most of the time it doesn't work. Band-Maid however, when they play their music acoustically, they rewrite their songs to BE acoustic.
And you can do what I do, snarf the MV then strip the audio with audacity, then add the mp3 to your files. If they ever make this acoustic concert CD available to the general public again, I plan on ordering it, so as to support the Ladies.
And the acoustic version of Sayanakidori is extra special as well. Miku and her high note make it worth it even more.
And Hmmm one you NEED to listen to. "Unfair Game" from the YOLO Maxi-Single in their playlist tab.
The Yokohama Arena version is best with Kanami's new intro. Bluray will be released soon.
@@ericifune5543 I agree it's good, but the strings of the Zepp version stir my emotions in a way Yokoari doesn't.
This whole performance was just magical, and the sound mix was so warm without burying any instrument. There is a commentary version out there with English subtitles that is well worth tracking down (but not on YT sadly), where the ladies go a little off-topic discussing why they couldn't have an exhibition of old maid outfits as most of them fell apart! In fact, I seem to remember that Misa gave hers to her Mother. The outfits here they described as "Star Wars clothes".
