The best thing for me about Band-Maid is how they're all smiles during live performances. They're all just having fun!

lol I'll go ahead and guarantee he will be more and more impressed. It's just a fact for those who know great RnR when they hear it!
Speaking of fun: when the three guitarists were around the drummer, they were making funny faces. They do that a lot. You can see it a bit better in the live video of "Freedom".
That is the part that distances them from a lot of groups, they literally enjoy each other's company and it's palpable just by their actions on stage and just having fun. Akane has to be the happiest drummer in music history and she gets a kick out of the other ladies making funny faces and trying to trip her up, but knowing all the while that is NOT going to be happen. Just amazing and refreshing. As another reactor said, the future of rock is safe in the hands of Japanese female bands, because there is nothing like them here in the US.
@@mikeat2637 - yeah - that is really nice. Another female metal group that seems to have the same kind of chemistry is Nemophila. They also have fun. It is not clear what is most important for them, fun or music. This is, of course, not unique in groups, but it is such a treat for the audience when it is there.
As others say, just scratching the surface of their immense talents. It’s called “the gap” by founder Miku Kobato (an 800-year old small pigeon) on Rhythm guitar/“second” vocals - the gap in expectations between five young women in maid costumes and their playing hard rock/metal music. Sure, it’s there to get attention but then after 5 or 6 songs you realize there may not be a flat-out better rock band on the planet 🌏. And there are dozens of great songs - and lots of exquisite bass, drums and guitar solos 🤘🏼. Instrumentals, acoustic numbers, ballads, metal and tons of first-class rock & hard rock that pull in influences from Hendrix & Santana to the Smashing Pumpkins, Maximum The Hormone, and all the rock greats with elements of punk, thrash, progressive, jazz, blues, etc - it’s in there. They are absolutely masters of the craft and focused on World Domination - it’s only a matter of exposure for these five incredible women, imho.

The singer and bassist didnt wanna do the whole french maid thing- but they ARE wearing versions of maid outfits- there are lots of types internationally :) Saiki the singers is kinda a chinese hostess dress- which is more or less a maid- and the bassists Misa's outfit is something along the line of a edo period or older japanese samuri lords maid/attendant- the types who were also secretly assassins who might poison the lord enemies etc. They have had different versions of all the them too over the years.
p.s They are all amazing on their instruments- the drummer bassist and lead really stand out. The drummer and bassist are up with the best in the world right now. They all do a lot of creative stuff but in service of the songs not to show off. They almost never play the same thing twice exactly the same. The lead guitarist also writes their stuff btw.

Sorry, but they are more classic rock, not hard rock. They’ve been influenced by some of the best classic rock bands, ever, according to them.
Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin was at one of their concerts and went backstage to meet with Akane, the drummer. He said she was one of the best he’d ever heard!

With Band-Maid, much more often than most other bands. Its great. lol and to be fair, a lot of her bass lines are basically solos if you took all other instruments out of the mix. Welcome to the club man. They really are such a reliable source of good music. No bad songs by them. They are amazing in studio, but you can't beat their live performances.

Blooming and warning- Mvs- are both good next choices Those and daydreaming -maybe dice too, are the songs you will be advised to watch the MV of rather than lives. Daydreaming is fantastic but its a much lighter song btw. Onset official live is also fantastic if you want an instrumental. Try to avoid bad fan cams - almost all their songs are on their own channel with official live versions that are good quality.
Best Hard Rock band out there. And happiest!. If you loved the bass (MISA is the bassist name) check their song No God (also live). You are going to be amazed.

Best rockband in the world at the moment and that says a german that dont understand japanese at all (but i am learning, because of Band-Maid). Everyone in this band is over the top talented, no weak-link, always improving, naturally formed, writing their own songs (mainly Kanami, lead guitar), loving each other and their fans. Its a long time ago i had so much fun to listen to music again! Since round about 2-3 years they brought me back to rockmusic and i never looked back!
They have a few great bass solos. The song Dice almost stars with it. Still my fave song. They do a wide range of rock. Domination I think is fairly typical for them. If you want another live check out the video with both Manners and Black Hole. Totally different from each other and Domination.
Bass guitar solo! How often? Well, keep watching Band Maid videos and you will see many bass guitar solo's. Her name is "Misa, the barefoot assassin" She doesn't wear shoes on stage. She likes to feel them drum vibration's.

The maid outfit was aimed at a specific Japanese cultural trope. When Japanese audiences sees cute girls in maid outfits getting ready to perform onstage, the assumption is that they are going to hear cutesy bubble-gum pop or idol music. Instead they are blasted with face melting hard rock/metal. This creates a mental dissonance called "The Gap": the contrast of what you see and expect and what you actually get. From the looks of it, you experienced it too.
They have so so so many good songs. They release an album a year so far. And this years was a 10 out of 10 for me

May I be the first to say it's called Domination, not Demolition (even though you got the name right in the video). @@SteveOGRock This is a band that shows solos of everybody on their instruments. Other songs they have done, Daydreaming a ballard, Yolo, Dice, Manners, Onset, Black Hole, Bubble, Warning, all have guitar bass solos. And the songs are strong. They have done over 100 songs.

The thing I always find interesting about these Band Maid reaction videos is the smile on the listeners faces. What starts as a serious analysis always turns to joy. Is it the realization that the cute girls in maid costumes are crazy talented? Idk.. I can tell you having seen them live, they are masterful performers. They brought my girlfriend to tears when we saw them. Two hours of gut punching badassery that I'll never forget as long as I live.
I definitely want to see them live for real. I bet it’s epic.

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. The lead guitarist, Kanami usually gets over looked by the bassist and drummer when people first get into them. But once they get to know the band and more of the catalog people realize what a force she is. I would be interested in seeing your reaction and thoughts on the double live they did for their songs, Manners and Black Hole. These ladies have changed my music world and for that alone I already just love them. :)
Until a few years ago, I was one of those who claimed that the classic rock genre was dead. Well, today it looks a bit different. And the reason for that are these 5 not only charming but also highly talented ladies. I can only underline the statement of others: You haven't even scratched the surface of what these ladies have to offer. :)
Many say they are the best band the genre has heard and seen for decades, and normally I don't think much of such statements. However, with my knowledge, I can't bring any counterargument either. These ladies are so freaking good at what they do, incredible in the studio AND on stage, and the icing on the cake is that they obviously really love it all without bursting with egos.

BAND MAID is a 5-member girls rock band. They are hard rock band and are now considered by fans to be one of the best hard rock bands in the world. They usually perform 23 songs and 2 hours live. They were formed in Japan in 2013 by side guitarist Miku Kobato. Kobato had experience working at a maid cafe in Akihabara Tokyo and had the idea of playing cool songs with a maid costume. That's why the band was named Band-Maid. "Thrill" was their first music video in 2014, played 2 million times in two weeks and saved them from breaking up. At that time they were just around 19-22 years old. And then they have been doing LIVE overseas and increasing their fans. She was the lead singer when the band was founded,
but since Saiki became the lead singer, she started playing the side guitar for the first time.
Saiki Atsumi : Lead vocal, the youngest, member call her a teacher, she make various decisions. good at cooking
Kanami Tono : Lead guitar, composer (prolific genius), good at piano. hobby is reading. good at making sweets.
Akane Hirose : Drummer, good at funny faces, she is a big eater. she loves anime. she has a lot of friends.

It doesn't matter where you start with this band, as fans can always say, "You ain't seen nothin' yet!" There are certain things you can expect from their arrangements, but you never know how they're going to execute them. They will always find a way to surprise you and I've never seen anyone disappointed.

Yeah no, Kanami isn't a shredder like those in Lovebites. If you want to see some more technical examples of her guitar skill (and more importantly, her composing skills), check out the mv for "Different" or the live "Onset" video.
She actually can shred (and does it quite often - from Rinne to Yolo and many more songs) but favoures short solos because she plays for the song, always.

I'm glad you mentioned Skunk Anansie. They were one of my favorite band in the 90's and beside Skin's voice, I've always loved the bass in this band. And welcome to your BAND-MAID journey. Band Maid is a Phenomenal Band with such Musically Talented Ladies. Their live music is second to none. Try ( Onset for a live Instramental that I'm sure you'll enjoy watching. But don't stop there. The band started as a 4 piece and Miku(2nd Guitar/Vocals) fired herself as lead vocalist and was convinced to start learn guitar. They auditioned in Saiki (Lead Vocals) but were worried she would back out of their first gig if she knew the outfit so they just said they would have it back stage and it was something cute.
I believe Saiki later said she might of backed out if she knew, but everything worked out.
One thing to be aware of with this song, is noticing their energy. This was the 22nd song in a 23 song setlist! From start to end, the energy is amazing!
And on another note, Kanami, the lead guitarist, She is a completely different person performing than she is outside of the stage. She is assertive and aggressive on stage, but in interviews, she is about as humble as can be. Almost unassuming. Shy an adorable. If you haven't ( and I am discovering your channel right before I have to go to work, so I haven't looked yet) check out Blooming, their 2 song video live of Manners and Black Hole (which really shows their versatility), Daydreaming, and their new video from their Christmas Acoustic show, Catharisis.

Congratulations! You have just discovered the most fun band to watch and listen to on this planet! They have over 100 good songs and no bad one. They excel in live but MVs are also great. Pick any video from their official YT channel, you can't go wrong with Band-Maid.
About outfits of Saiki (lead vocal) and MISA (bass), Miku (band founder/main outfit designer/rhythm guitar/lyricist/spokes-pigeon🕊😁) said that Saiki's is a queen maid outfit and MISA's is an assassin styled maid outfit. MISA is called as a barefoot assassin by fans.

Saiki, the lead singer, was recruited last. The band was originally a 4 piece, with Miku (band founder and current rhythm guitarist) used to be their lead singer. After one performance, Miku felt her voice didn't suit the style the band was going for, so they started looking for a lead singer. When they recruited Saiki, they didn't tell her about the maid costumes because they got the impression she would totally turn down the gig if she knew. So apparently she only found out when she arrived for their first gig as a 5 piece together. She's said on interviews that had she known about the maid outfits beforehand, she definitely wouldn't have accepted it.
So ya, that's why she gets to wear a toned-down maid outfit... because she really doesn't like frilly maid costumes, lol.

@@SteveOGRock No worries! If you want a bit more history of the band, here's a rundown of how they formed...
Miku (rhythm guitarist) used to work in a Maid Cafe (cafes in Japan where the servers dress as maids). After a failed Idol career, she decided to fuse the Maid look with hard rock, so in 2013 she started BAND-MAID.
Miku found Kanami (lead guitarist) via UA-cam. Kanami had a channel where she wrote her own songs and played the guitar.
Kanami, in turn, knew Akane (drummer) from having her play the drums on some of her songs.
Akane then got Misa (bassist) on board, who she knew from Music school.
With this, they were 4. Miku was the lead singer, with Kanami on guitar, Akane on drums, and Misa on bass. They did one gig in 2013 as a 4 piece, but afterwords decided Miku didn't have the type of voice they wanted for a hard rock band, so they did auditions for a lead singer, which is how they picked up Saiki.
So, Miku didn't originally play rhythm guitar... she infact had no prior experience playing guitar before recruiting Saiki to the band. With Saiki aboard, she started taking guitar lessons from Kanami to be the bands rhythm guitarist. If you take a look at their FIRST music video, Thrill, from 2013, you can see Miku holding the guitar... but she never actually plays it, or even pretends to play it. She just holds it.
Now compare that to this Domination video from 2020 where she absolutely kills it.
One of the reasons I love this band so much is not only how talented they are, but how hard working they are too. And they seem to have so much FUN playing live, it's a blast to watch.
Anyways, can't wait for more Band-Maid reactions. They have over 100 songs at this point, and they're all good.

Keep looking at any of their official stuff and you cant go wrong, they WANT people to react to and share it. 100 songs, 2013 formed and have 8 albums.

You got a lot from one listen, but fun is the main thing for sure. You're going to like following up I think as well. Really great story behind them, and an absolute bucketload of talent in every song. The vary in style a great amount, even just in one song, and they will play a small part that most bands would consider a main riff for a full song for like, two bars, and you never hear it again :)

Miku (rhythm guitar and backup singer) worked for a while at a traditional Japanese Maid Cafe before forming the band.. The labels in Japan were looking for an image so she came up with the maid outfits to go with the band name..

Lead guitarist Kanami isnt there for a showoff-y solo, she prefers the overall sound(kind of like a spice in a curry).
I can definitely get behind that.

If I tell you, that I n e v e r was interested in Rock or Metal, neither in my private life nor as a professional composer and producer who listens more to funky Disko Stuff, electronics, or highly harmonic music (Like the good Instrumental pieces from Mike Oldfield) and produces as Chillwalker in this genre it becomes more obscure. I am open to almost everything, my Motto is "
Any music that is produced with love and makes its special audience happy deserves absolute appreciation!"
For example, when I discovered Babymetal, I totally got for the fun...it did not blow my mind, but...who does not like rollercoasters? You will know as a musician that producing and consuming are totally different things. For example..I never listen to "Schlager" od Boygroup Pop. But when I asked myself If I could do it and the 2 Songs I did won an award and kinda nailed it... the most proud moment ever.
But thats just fascination for the craft. Nothing more, and the dopamine rush in succeeding.
With Band-Maid it should be the same: Worshipping their talent, but nothing that I listen to twice. But I do!!
Once in the rabbit hole. Did you know that they released about 70 Songs in the last decade...and there is NOT ONE Filler. Or ONE B-Side! Every track is really amazing. Do you know one single Band that does that? Even ABBA put 3-4 Songs on every Album that were kinda..."ok to get the runtime.
I am fanboying like a teen. With almost 50.
And, please believe me: Its not an "I like kawaii Girls and Mangaporn" thing.

She is in my opinion one of the best songwriters of the last decades, and almost every new Reaktion to them has the same 5 sequences:

3. I can't believe how brilliant they are.

5. "How come, that I never heard of them before"
6. This must be the best Band ever!
