This timeframe would make the best elder scrolls game ever. Imagine fighting for freedom with humans and even playing as an Ayleid to help the humans in a civil war across Cyrodil and all those artifacts of the Ayleids would make some pretty awesome gameplay and quests.

It is so strange, being affected with a sense of vexation whenever Aldmeris is mentioned as a mysterious continent that existed in the ancient past and might still exist somewhere in the present. All signs clearly point toward Aldmeris physically being Tamriel, and its paradise-like status in the cultural memories of mer as being representative of the time before the Ehlnofey wars, when the Aldmer/Old Ehlnofey lived among the Aedra. There are so many blind spots and inconsistencies in history which are cleared up by the idea that the High Elves came from ancient Tamriel and couldn't find it for hundreds or thousands of years after their voyage because they'd lost their way at sea.
Where have these videos been my whole life? I've always loved Elderscrolls and will occasionally read online about it's lore but your videos, having all the information compiled like this... Amazing. Subscribed.
Are the Ayleids only different from the Aldmer by name? Or do they have distinct physical features that seperate the two groups? Also is it the same with the Chimer before they became the Dark Elves?
I can tell you the Ayleids are taller from experiences If you play Oblivion do the Thieves guild quest all the way through and you can find two ancient Ayleids under the empyreal city beware they are not push overs in a fight.
Good question. There was one quest in Oblivion where a High Elf sorceror turned himself into an Ayleid sorceror king, and it looked like he changed in physical features. I would think that that "might" be a good look at what they might have been like. Do notice though in Oblivion, that the Ayleid double-bladed axes bear a strong resemblance to the double-bladed glass axes in Skyrim, and Elven armor in Skyrim shows a strong resemblance to to Ayleid armor (most notably the light armor helmets that resemble the head of a bird of prey.) Have any of you played TESO yet? I've read there is an actual Ayleid in that game. I've also read from the wiki that the Ayleids only physical difference from the Altmer/Aldmer is that they are a little dark but lighter than Dunmer.
John Primrose I have not played it yet but from what I can tell in the game half the shit going on has no significance to the main stream elder scrolls games or lore. The wiki may say that the only physical difference is the skin color but I have met multiple Ayleid's in a relevant elder scrolls game that were a full head taller than my High Elf in armor.
i really hope that if the next elder scrolls game is in summerset, that the ayleids will return as the hierarchy of the thalmor. too much good history with the ayleids that is just in the books in the games and not at the forefront. personally the human uprising against the ayleids is my favorite history in all of elder scrolls.

Yeah many altmer dislike the Thalmor cause of their extreme ideas. The Dominion in ESO is pretty cool but it is in an era where the Thalmor are a small faction with no power lol
the Thalmor are a faction. A political party that was against Alinor's ideas. They want to dominate and show to everyone that the Altmer is a superior race to both Men and other Mer and beast folk too. They were never been taken seriously by the majority of the Altmer until the Oblivion Crisis when they stepped in and saved their homeland.
Queen Alinor believed that everyone can live in peace. The Thalmor see all others as potential threats and that they should be recognized by all others for their superiority.
Yeah i just hope that the Thalmor ideas will not get the Altmer follow the Snow Elven path. It would be a shame to have everyone against you and in the end you get to extinction, cause from what i see even the Bosmer dont like the fact that the Thalmor see them as a secondary class of Mer, they see Dark Elves as a cursed tribe, and they see Orcs as Beasts, they dont have much of respect for the khajiit either. The way i see it even if the Empire loose again the upcoming war and enslave Humanity or whatever, the other Mer races will probably rebel against them.
Dude I know this is an old video... but how are you going to talk about the Ayleids, specifically their down fall and not even mention Pelinal Whitestrake?
Why the fuck didn't the Dragons just be like "Nope" to the Elves? I mean the elves see themselves as former adera, wouldn't the Dragons just be like "umm we are basically adera" O_O
***** I do not in fact support the snowelves, but I believe that there is a diskussion to be had, no one ever saw Talos acend to godhood, nor do I believe it myself.
esbenjddk Talos did infact ascend to become just like the Aedra. In ES Oblivion for example, one of the things required to open the portal to Mankar Cameron's world is the "Blood of the divine"(Blood from the Aedra). When you scrape off some of the blood from Talos's imperial armor, that blood, along with other artifacts, open the portal to Mankar Cameron's world. This is proof of his ascension. Also, in the knights of the nine quest, you require a blessing from each of the Aedra to defeat Umaril. The blast blessing that you get, comes from Talos and is known as the "blessing of Talos". It blesses you just like the other blessings of the Aedra and helps you to defeat Umaril. This is proof of his ascension. Everytime you pray at the shrine of an aedra, you get blessed. When you pray at the shrine of Talos, you also get a blessing. This is proof of his ascension. Akatosh made the condition that was that if the worship of the 8 is not upheld, the covenant will be broken. When the state religion became 9, the covenent was still in place. This suggests that the other Aedra recognised Talos as one of them and accepted the worship of the 9. Any great nord who proved himself in battle, goes to Sovnegard. Talos is a nord and was considered the greatest of nords, yet when he died, in ES Skyrim, he is not seen in Sovnegard. This suggests that he may have ascended to become something else. Remember, man and mer are related to the Ehlnofey, the faded decendants of the Aedra. These Ehlnofey walked Nirn and devolved further to eventually become Man and Mer. Talos had dragon blood making him closer to the Aedra than any man or mer was in his era. There are various theories as to how he ascended but the most plausible one is that when Talos fiddled with the Mantella which had a connection with the Heart of Lorkhan, he somehow managed to evolve back into an Ehlnofey then an Aedra. The dragon blood possibly helped in this ascension.
Sooooo......Since these Elves were around before the first Era, but not after that, it's likely that if they ever returned, they'd be like "Whoa where the fuck are the jungles?" It's also interesting that they're not Mer
They're Mer. They're technically Altmer they're just called Ayleids as thats the Aldmeri word for Wild Elf. The Altmer gave them that name to describe how the Ayleids rebelled against the Summerset Isles.
Tyler Jaynes If they could perceive it you'd think that there would be mention from those in Sovnegard (probably spelled wrong) or from people like Whitestrake. Not to mention ancient ghost. If they're dead then they would not be able to perceive it being wiped out of existence.
your videos jive so well playing in the background while i play skyrim. was just stalking elk north of whiterun when it dawned on me, these videos are awesome. thank you for doing them.
Check out my new Oblivion series; zombie attacks, time reversals, Oblivion invasions and 1v1 combat are just some of the things in these episodes. So watch them and please leave feedback, as I'd love to be able to improve upon what you wish to see!
Like Falmer, Chimer and Dwemer they were originally Aldmer in the Summerset Isles who left and changed when they arrived in Cyrodiil and formed their society, beliefs and culture.
Dragos Udrea I didn't mean to make this sound like I'm critiquing the Dunmer, afterall, there's nothing wrong with being jewish and I have nothing against jews, although jew jokes are kind'a my thing, I mean no actual disrespect to them. :) I actualy like the Dark elves, if nothing else, I like their appearence, the worship of Mephala (who I find to be a really cool deity, considering she's asociated with sex and assassins). The only thing I really dislike about them is their past of slavery. Which is no small thing, but it's been outlawed. :)
Azura, Boetiah, The Tribunal, Nerevarine, Dagoth Ur ... the list goes on and on. Morrowind is more than a game, it´s taken to the rank of masterpiece. No other game evokes the culture of a fictional race better. Morrowind is sensual yet grim. Jagged ... well you get the idea !
This is really good that you are doing this. The Elder Scrolls has a beautiful lore and people need to know what has gone on. You can usually find this in articles on the internet but it's really good that you are making it more widely distributed through video. Great job. Love it. Keep it up. Elder Scrolls documentaries :). Oh and a small suggestion, it'd be cool if you could do it in an old archaic voice :D.
the white-gold tower wasn't built to rever the divines, it was built for the porpose of holding nirn together. the elves witnissed the construction of the adimantine tower and proceeded to build their own.
But the dragon borns best fight was against a dragon, the hero of kvatch killed (well kinda) 2 deadric princes and the vestige killed one (kinda) and they both can't die so it's a tie
you say "all but forgotten" every time you want to say they forgot, this is a complete mistake because "all but forgotten" means they did not forget, all BUT forgotten, everything other then forget, it could also mean almost forget but that is still wrong.
It looks from some of the artwork that the Ayleids had only 3 toes. LOL. Wow. This really opened up the Ayleid race for me. I always thought of them as being even more mysterious than the Dwemer & Chimer. Some ancient ancestor, known only from ruins. Now I understand so much more about them. Thanx. :)
it would be interesting to have a game set at the end of the ayelid empire... for me it would be by far the most interesting theme from all TES games so far
+Andrei B It would indeed. They did build the Imperial city to mimic Aetherius. Like literally it was built in the exact same pattern as Aetherius so they could attain divinity when the White Gold tower was complete. Sadly they screwed with men one too many times and... That would have been interesting to see.
you know who the elfs really remind me off whenever you state they were banished for deadra worship the protoss i'm sorry but i can't help it but think that it was kinda the same reason the dark templars were banished for not believing in the khala but instead the void.
Will you be going through all of the races lore? I am enjoying what I have watched and learned so far and am looking forward to a more detailed education of the Altmer.
Tiber Septim than why you sent a giant statue to attack them and there fighting him in the past present and future ps why you killed your emperor before and why did you forcaely aborted banazia child
im a dunmer all the way haha i started with morrowind and will always prefer it over every game but it kills me to see the bad rep they get haha i guess its deserved though for owning argonian and khajiit slaves. i played as a dunmer but always freed the slaves from those caves to help keep my own mental image of how the dunmer should be in my head haha not all of us dunmer are slave owners and racists.
UA-cam1 Shoddycast doesn't keep their undying love of all things Altmer related a secret. But I'll forgive them, since their videos are otherwise pretty good.
Oh yeah? You Lizards think you're so tough, let me tell you something...yeah you kind of are, i won't say you're the best (that title belongs to the Dov in my mind) but there is no denying you guys are pretty badass.
But didn't large numbers of aylieds flee into valenwood, true how ever the last reported siting of an aptly aylied was several century's before skyrim so I hope the next elder scroll game is in valenwood so we can see aylieds
So, no mention of their abuse of necromancy or their hordes of zombies? The sheer number of liches and tomb/ruins filled with undead that their empire created certainly shouldn't just be ignored. Oh, and give Pelinal his due reward. Dude is the best part of the Elder Scrolls lore.
Except for maybe the Dwemer, the Ayleids really are the most fascinating race of tamriel in my opinion. Just out of curiosity whats the name of the music track that plays at the end? :) Great video btw!
I would love some sources on this, Ayleids are crazy cool, as is a lot of TES lore, but the Ayleids have an extremely crucial role in the survival of Man, and I would love to know what they did other than making dungeons and dying at the hand of Pelinal "See an elf, put its head on a shelf" Whitestrake
They originated there via the Wandering Ehlnofey. Devs have, in the forums, clarified Nedes were already present in Tamriel and aren't necessarily directly related to Atmorans.
Small correction, the sun is the hole that Magnus created while passing to aetherius bcs he was the "architect" of Lorkhan's idea of Mondus and realized 1st that the creation of Monus would drain the aedra's power. The smaller stars are the holes the other aedra who chose to flee made so they wouldn't loose all of their power.Among the aedra that chose to stay the 8 divines where the only ones that kept part of their power, while the rest lost their immortality and produced offsprings the Ayleids
Fun fact, Søvn in a few Scandinavian languages mean "Sleep" and "gard" means "enclosed space." So it is not an actual word or place. It is a fictional mix of words. Sovngarde is based directly from Valhalla, the paradise for Norse warriors after death, if chosen by the Valkyries. Just felt like adding that.
Oblivion: Damn I'm sick to death of Ayleid ruins.
Skyrim: Damn I miss Ayleid ruins. Where's my damn Varla stone!
There's a Creation Club item, Rare Curios, that adds Varla Stones to Skyrim.
Elswer: its been 10 years and still no remains of them

Why the fuck didn't the Dragons just be like "Nope" to the Elves?
I mean the elves see themselves as former adera, wouldn't the Dragons just be like "umm we are basically adera"
O_O
***** I'm afraid you mean the 8, not the 9
***** Talos is yet a myth, there is no proof that he has ever left Nirn to enter godhood.
***** I do not in fact support the snowelves, but I believe that there is a diskussion to be had, no one ever saw Talos acend to godhood, nor do I believe it myself.
esbenjddk What snow elves? They're Falmer nao.
esbenjddk Talos did infact ascend to become just like the Aedra.
Sooooo......Since these Elves were around before the first Era, but not after that, it's likely that if they ever returned, they'd be like "Whoa where the fuck are the jungles?"
It's also interesting that they're not Mer
They're Mer. They're technically Altmer they're just called Ayleids as thats the Aldmeri word for Wild Elf. The Altmer gave them that name to describe how the Ayleids rebelled against the Summerset Isles.
Tyler Jaynes they wouldn't remember the jungles as they've literally been wiped from the face of history
TheNIGamer They've been wiped from the face of histroy in Mundus. I'm sure the other realms could perceive it all
The ayleids are gone, most slain, and the survivors eventually merging with the bosmer population of valenwood and the breton population of high rock.
Tyler Jaynes If they could perceive it you'd think that there would be mention from those in Sovnegard (probably spelled wrong) or from people like Whitestrake. Not to mention ancient ghost. If they're dead then they would not be able to perceive it being wiped out of existence.
Anyone else listening to this in 2020?
Almost 2022 ;)
your videos jive so well playing in the background while i play skyrim. was just stalking elk north of whiterun when it dawned on me, these videos are awesome. thank you for doing them.
I love these elves so much
Check out my new Oblivion series; zombie attacks, time reversals, Oblivion invasions and 1v1 combat are just some of the things in these episodes. So watch them and please leave feedback, as I'd love to be able to improve upon what you wish to see!
Yeah! Keepin' Oblivion alive!!
Were they a distinct race of Mer or were they just a splinter of Altmer?
Like Falmer, Chimer and Dwemer they were originally Aldmer in the Summerset Isles who left and changed when they arrived in Cyrodiil and formed their society, beliefs and culture.
GhidoFan023 no need for the exposition, dude
i built an entire d&d campaign off TES
Ian McLastname You asked on an TES lore video though XD
Not the Thalmor, the Ayleids were the true Nazis of Tamriel.
Nazis ?
You mean jewish supremacists !
Dragos Udrea I alway found the Dunmer to be the most jewish race.
Hmmm .... you're quite right. I've had that feeling myself.
But I came to sympathize them after Morrowind and the Dragonborn DLC.
Dragos Udrea I didn't mean to make this sound like I'm critiquing the Dunmer, afterall, there's nothing wrong with being jewish and I have nothing against jews, although jew jokes are kind'a my thing, I mean no actual disrespect to them. :)
I actualy like the Dark elves, if nothing else, I like their appearence, the worship of Mephala (who I find to be a really cool deity, considering she's asociated with sex and assassins).
Jagged ... well you get the idea !
this are the videos that made fall in love with this channel!!!
What if, after they died, the Ayleids became both the Golden Saints and the Dark Seducers?
PRAISE REMAN
the white-gold tower wasn't built to rever the divines, it was built for the porpose of holding nirn together. the elves witnissed the construction of the adimantine tower and proceeded to build their own.
ive seen each episode like 12 times bc they help me fall asleep 😂😂 skyrim has the best lore than any other game i know :D
at 9:07 is one of the ayleid holding mehrunes razor, it looks like it
Haha, I noticed that too
Man... I hope Bethesda hires you or something.. Stupendous job
I'm sorry, but hire him for what exactly? for reading?
Gabriel Bruun Anyone can do that.
Gabriel Bruun I am sure he will be given a part like a side line character such as the adoring fan's brother or something.
I had hoped your scholars would be on a level comparable with my own colleagues. They are not.
Ancano need more snobbiness
Ancano by the way.... you were casting magic on that eye of manus for months in my game...lol
are you like that guy in falout lore videos who names himself colonel autumn and try's to talk like him and calling everyone idiot's?
Big Smoke Lol, I wish.
have you made a video about the left-handed elves?
Not too much is known about them.
Teonod other that after receiving gifts from the right handed elves they mysteriously went extinct
"It's a bit of an understatement" should be the catch phrase of this.followed by "A sin they would pay dearly for"
You should do lore on the snow elves
who would win: the eternal champion, hero of daggerfall, neveriane, hero of kvatch, dragonborn or the soul less one/vestige????
The Hero of Kvatch. He is Sheogorath and Dadrea can't be killed.
Darkteen75 good point of view but the vestige has no soul and in return he can ressurect and this affects him even after he gets his soul back
Dragonborn, he'd find a way.
But the dragon borns best fight was against a dragon, the hero of kvatch killed (well kinda) 2 deadric princes and the vestige killed one (kinda) and they both can't die so it's a tie
The Vestige The Dragonborn killed Alduin, the first son of Akatosh who is a god, on top of that defeated the race of dragons.
Skyrim has a great lore to it . So does dishonored but elder scrolls as better
you say "all but forgotten" every time you want to say they forgot, this is a complete mistake because "all but forgotten" means they did not forget, all BUT forgotten, everything other then forget, it could also mean almost forget but that is still wrong.
It's other "than", not "then". But you are right about the "all but forgotten" part.
Thanx. :)
that title screen always gives me goosebumps :0
it would be interesting to have a game set at the end of the ayelid empire... for me it would be by far the most interesting theme from all TES games so far
First time fire wasn't a basic element in a culture haha
This is story telling at it's BEST
Will you be going through all of the races lore? I am enjoying what I have watched and learned so far and am looking forward to a more detailed education of the Altmer.
Imagine the high elves, nords and bretons joined forces. That would be the ultimate army.
+miller repin It happened already, it was called the Imperial Legions.
Sabafap Bing True.
+miller repin It happened once out side of the Imperial legion against the first Imperial Empire. The battle of Glenumbra Moors.
Imperial Scholar Expert Yea my grammar is complete shit.
+Imperial Scholar Expert hello fellow scholar
I hate the thalmore but love the altmer
What? Thats like saying i hate the ss soldiers but love the germans and like the nazis
Gotta go for the whole package imma woodelf aldmeri dominion and i support the thalmor
Yea your kinda right
Tiber Septim than why you sent a giant statue to attack them and there fighting him in the past present and future ps why you killed your emperor before and why did you forcaely aborted banazia child
Ryan the Shitlord Collins hope you get triggered I did it for the lolz
im a dunmer all the way haha i started with morrowind and will always prefer it over every game but it kills me to see the bad rep they get haha i guess its deserved though for owning argonian and khajiit slaves. i played as a dunmer but always freed the slaves from those caves to help keep my own mental image of how the dunmer should be in my head haha not all of us dunmer are slave owners and racists.
cbradey get a life
Gabriel Avalos you came to a skyrim lore video and expected people in the comments not to be nerds? The fucks wrong with you?
Gabriel Avalos Fuck off
the forgotten gamer you fuck off forgotten ass nigga nobody likes you
the forgotten gamer i bet you arent even an elder scrolls fan
Shut up Cartman! That annotation had a typo. The Elder Scrolls Lore Series airs every two weeks. The Bretons will be covered next, on August 3rd. - J
Why didn't you mentioned Pelinal Whitestrake?
You do a really great job with these. Thanks man.
You seem to be a bit biased towards elves being better then humans
UA-cam1 Shoddycast doesn't keep their undying love of all things Altmer related a secret. But I'll forgive them, since their videos are otherwise pretty good.
*****
Lol. No.
Fish Elves supremacy FTW. Seriously though, I hope we see sea elves outside of ESO. Most likely in a Summerset Isle game someday.
UA-cam1 Can't you see? ELVEN SUPREMACY IS THE ONLY TRUTH!
Bosmer master race. For the Dominion.
***** they made a clog video on this channel related to this. They tell the story from the perspective of someone living within TES universe
Ayleids in ES6 CONFIRMED??? EH? EHHHH?!
+PadfootMorgensternJackson Thats like asking the Dwemer to magically reappear. It makes no sense.
+Indoril Nerevar Moon-and-Star Hey, I like to be an optimist. It seems like a good idea, they just have to make it make sense
Argonian supremacy
Psh Kajiit FTW
+Sir Woods LMAO that one's for people who went to school LOOL
Oh yeah? You Lizards think you're so tough, let me tell you something...yeah you kind of are, i won't say you're the best (that title belongs to the Dov in my mind) but there is no denying you guys are pretty badass.
Gage Frerard, K? Why do you have a picture of a captain iguana as your avatar then?
+mason wheatley PC supremacy
Very informative series. I appreciate all your hard work putting these together. You have a new subscriber!
One of the best videos yet
Imperials are the master race
+Nope92 indeed
Nope
92
my daughter aint dating no goddam dumners!!
+Nope92 2nd Best we all know,Dovahs are the best.
The PC master race would wreck the Ayleids
+PC Master Race May your framerates be high and your temperatures low
The best races r always targeted 😑 for extinction
Meow:3 not true what about the Jews?
wait is jew even a race lmfao XDDD you are so stupid
Meow:3 they're a race just not a human race
they are not a race don't try to argue. "Jews" are people from Judaism which is a religion not a race. Even search in google. /:
But didn't large numbers of aylieds flee into valenwood, true how ever the last reported siting of an aptly aylied was several century's before skyrim so I hope the next elder scroll game is in valenwood so we can see aylieds
So, no mention of their abuse of necromancy or their hordes of zombies? The sheer number of liches and tomb/ruins filled with undead that their empire created certainly shouldn't just be ignored.
Oh, and give Pelinal his due reward. Dude is the best part of the Elder Scrolls lore.
Smoke weed erry day
yeah your cool.
Suikos Realm Snoop to the D...O...double G
Suikos Realm you're*
''Torture'' is why I HATE ELVESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! But hey, there not complete JERKSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still can't get over the awesome beginning
Except for maybe the Dwemer, the Ayleids really are the most fascinating race of tamriel in my opinion. Just out of curiosity whats the name of the music track that plays at the end? :) Great video btw!
Its already too epic. That much epicism would give me a stroke.
Awesome series! Thanks so much!
I still love these videos! Keep it up man!
I think ayelids left mostly to Valenwood, and so many wood elves of the areas close to Cyrodill are of ayelid descent...
They originated there via the Wandering Ehlnofey. Devs have, in the forums, clarified Nedes were already present in Tamriel and aren't necessarily directly related to Atmorans.
It's amazing how much effort Bethesda has placed into the back-story of its Elder Scrolls series
I've never seen them using magic so it would be cool to see that.
Is there enough information for you to make another video about the short history of the snow elves?
