Redguards are based on medieval arabs/persians and sub-saharan africans such as Nubians, Imperials are based on ancient romans & greeks, Nords are based on scandinavians and ancient germanics & celtics tribes, Bretons are based on western medieval europeans (mostly french and english).
"Rocks and sand as far as the eye can see. It's hard to believe anything could live here. Hammerfell It is the barren scab of Tamriel. An unforgiving place that seems to want to kill anything that lives in it" So... Australia?
I think the Daggerfall Covenant has the best race composition. An army built around Orc tanks, Redguards for melee DPS and Bretons for support magic with melee or straight up battle mages.
Aldmeri dominion is also pretty nice they have the best Mages in Tamriel Altmer and the best Archers in Tamriel Bosmer and the Khajiit are more warrior like in ESO but keeping their stealthiness
"Wake up, Redguard! Ah, there you are. How do you like your cell, huh? Roomy enough for you? I can't even imagine what it's like for you. No more sunshine, no more open seas. Just a box and a dirty beam of light for the rest of your life. Bet you're glad it won't last long, huh? Oh, didn't you know? No one ever leaves this prison alive! You're going to die in here, Redguard! Die!"
Watch out, or the Redguard will destroy them and conquer the prison too. Did you watch the lore on Redguards? They are not the ones to mess with. They'll beat you, terrify you, earn your respect, and make it look fairly easy.
Next game definently needs to take place in Hammerfell, it would be perfect as there was currently a war in Hammerfell against the Aldmeri Dominion, this should ultimately lead to a massive alliance of all the provinces and species to team against the Dominion for one final battle to save the world.
11:55 Wow.. Okay red-guards are mad slept on by players. They come into Tamriel, instantly take over land nords and elves had fought over for generations. Then when the imperial's bend over for their elven overlords and give up tracks of land that took up some of hammerfell. The red guards ALONE keep the entirety of the Aldmeri Dominion out of hammerfell! I always thought my red guards were just sell sword roamers. When in reality they're one of if not the most dominant race in Tamriel.
Okay, the long version. In 13th Warrior an Arab is given a Viking sword. He is too weak to use it and so makes it into a scimitar, prompting comments like "give an Arab a sword and he makes a knife!" Even after showing his skill, they taunt him by asking if they can give it to their daughter when he dies. Since Redguard are inspired by Arabic design, and Nords are obviously Nordic, the same beliefs likely apply. Redguard "swords" are knives suitable only for wives and children.
I think you have totally missed the point. When I call a scimitar a knife, it is an INSULT. An insult to both the weapon and the people using it. Arguing "but it's too long to be a knife!" is pointless, because this isn't a discussion on where knives stop being knives and become swords. This is about scimitars being womanly weapons that no real man worth his mail would ever use in battle. Only a woman would make a sword designed to be cuddled during fighting. Only a woman would make a sword where the fighting styles for it resemble dancing. These are insults. Do you understand how this works yet?
***** Scimitars are not 'more powerful' than long-swords. If anything they would be less powerful if only for the fact that they were made with inferior materials and techniques, they are after all a much earlier weapon. Regardless there are not many instances in which one sword is outright better than another, saying that one sword is better than another is especially silly when comparing a 9th century middle eastern curved sword to a 13th century European sword.
the red guards are clearly based off of the moorish kingdoms of northern Africa and spain. they resemble north-western africans such as morrocans, malians, mauritanians (moors in general). the culture is also very african. towering domes, busy bazaars and turbans; also found in arabia, persia and india. the land of hammerfell is very much like northern africa and the middle east. i like to think of hammer fell as mostly desert and the north being medditerenean (like the northern coast of africa) and the south being sub-tropical like western africa's tropical coast (such as stros m'kai) what do you guys think? oh, and ancient yokuda must have been like ancient egypt. the large red guard pyramids made of black stone and ivory with a very advanced culture and technology and one of the oldest civilisations on nirn. redgaurds are my favourite race and have a very interesting history; especially ancient yokuda
Actually, moorish combat gear was very similiar to european stuff. Hell, people in africa still favoured straightswords for a long time after the scimitar was introduced.
not everywhere, the traditional Ashanti sword in what is now Ghana and Ivory coast preferred the curved sword similar to the scimitar. ine astern Africa and northern africa many preferred robes to armour and wielded 'curved swords'. aye, it is true that the moorish did use 'european weapons' but that was after their golden age. the original moors invaded europe with their traditional weaponry and gear. today many africans who keep to the old ways use straightswords indeed but many, again in western africa use curved weapons and wear turbans, particularly desert warriors, whilst the tropical africans by the coast prefer straight swords or spears.
kwadwo baidoo You got that backwords. Straight swords where the norm in northern Africa before the scimitar was introduced. It was after that they where slowly replaced by curved swords, as it later happened in Europe. And they always used turban in northern Africa, but the spearhead helm is distinctly eastern. Not something you'd see on a black African.
kwadwo baidoo Differ all you want, the scimitar is an arabic adaptation of the chinese saber that slowly crept its way to the western world via the turks. Hell, some places in africa where still using regular medieval straight swords when Europeans where sporting their own versions of the sabre. The egyptians used the kopesh. Not the same thing. And the helm is middle eastern. The moors themselfs used regular conical helmets like europeans did, the only difference was the cloth.
The Elder Scrolls lore is simply amazing! I respect you for gathering all of this information regarding it all too, especially the origins of the Men, Mer and beast folks. And as cool as each race is within this series is, from Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim, I’ve only played as a Redguard, Dark Elf, Orc and Breton - but through learning more information about other races from these lore videos it makes me want to consider revisiting all these games and start a new file with each race just to really immerse myself in it with all this content you posted.
Hmmm... you say the redguards all frown upon magic, however in the "time of need" quest from whiterun, the alik'r warriors are seen using a master-level spell to paralyze the woman at the stables.
+Stormy Games Conjuration and Destruction. Schools like restoration have their place in Redguard society, but they utterly hate conjuration. Because a subset of conjuration is necromancy...
+Impaleification This is because the redguards are very powerful swordsmen and swordswomen and it's a part of they culture so they believe relying on magic is weak.
I miss this series, it brought a sense of nostalgia and wonder with regards to the Elder Scrolls universe. It always gets me excited for Elder Scrolls 6 being around the corner. I hope if or when Shoddycast come back, they revisit this series again someday
Comments on these videos be like: "OMG I luv (X race)! (X race) is my favourite! Their so beutyful and all the oter races are infrior! tes VI should TOTALLY be set in (X race's home province)! THAT WOULD B SO COOL!"
"OMG I luv Redguards! Redguards are my favourite! Their so beautiful and all the other races are inferior ! TES VI should be set in Hammerfell! THAT WOULD BE SO COOL!"
It seems odd that Redguards think violence is just a part of life to be expected, and even beneficial, while shunning magic. Yes, magic can be used to steal the souls of innocent people, or tamper with their minds for nefarious purposes. But a sword can also be used to both defend your land, and to kill the guiltless. Both magic and weapons are just tools, which can be used for good or evil.
I think it all comes down to ignorance, or fear of the unknown. A sword is a sword. A dangerous, but simple weapon. You always know what to expect. But magic? There is so much left to discover, and so many different strands that you could spend your lifetime studying it and only understand a small amount.
Whoa, whoa, wait. They conquer and take over a nation, become very popular and well respected by the very people they conqured, and are mad at the people they dominated for not being strong enough to stop them?? (0.o) =l....= > Redguards are so boss! =D
I would fight on the side of the dominion. The altmer were in tamriel before anyone else, far more advanced than the other races. They Ignored the races of men settling the mainland. Then MEN overtook them & forced them into their culture, and worship they're MAN god. For that reason, I beleive that it is justified that the thalmar ban Talos worship. I think a game set in valenwood, elsweyr, and summerset would depict their side of the story.
As I'm currently not reciding at my home but in an institute and suffering the worst headaches of my life I am pretty much bedbound in a room with the curtains closed, this series helps me a lot getting my mind off the headaches and still be 'involved' in tES. Thanks for that.:)
THAT IS WHAT I FUCKING MISS FROM MORROWIND ARMOR TYPES YOU COULD WEAR A DIFFERENT PIECE OF ARMOR FOR EACH SHOULDER EACH HAND CHEST LEGGINGS BOOTS AND HELMET! I MISS THAT AND YOU COULD WEAR CLOTHES UNDERNEATH AND ROBES OVER SHIT MAN!
Agreed. I remember wearing a robe in Vivec saved my ass several times from pissed off Ordinators who wanted to kill me for wearing their sacred armor. I also remember starting fights with Ordinators outside the cantons in Vivec and killing them for their armor and selling it off for a decent price, lol
Resondin one learn to spell two nothing was really dumbed down just stream lined for a smooth easier jump in and play experience you want to be able to craft spells to fucking bad I hope they leave out all of those features was just dumb to begin with.
Arab is a mix of white and black etc. The moors conquered a wide space and had a lot of mixture; they took slaves from other ships and kept them as harems while actually treating them to a lifestyle better than before. The Moors taught Europe how to baith and do what you see them do......
Shaka Zulu Arabs in general refer to people from Western Asian Gulf countries and North-East African countries (essentially Muslim dominated countries). The moors are of Arab descent. So I guess to rephrase what I said earlier, the Redguards look more like the North-East African muslims.
People from Western Asian Gulf countries where created by the moors conquering all of the land and breeding with the local women. Arab culture is recent. The moors made arab culture what is is today. The women you see dance in the garbs are references from the Moorish Harem... Look into it. The arabs you see today are a mixed people, Asain,Black, White etc.
+Dan Wilson I fucking hate when people bring this lazy argument. ALL the games have been featured already, in arena or eso. Besides, daggerfall only featured the provinces partially and pixelated, 20 years ago.
Yeah, Oblivion didn't make them seem too interesting & never played Morrowind, but once Skyrim came around and I first laid eyes on the Alik'r warriors my opinions about them changed. Unfortunately I was too invested in my Nord character at the time to make another.
You have so many people saying that Redguards aren't black lol smh, even though there culture is very African influenced if people knew anything about the Nubian and Egyptian empires, I mean its clear as day they even say that the Redguards are the most athletically gifted warriors in Tamriel hmmmmm....... dang that sounds so much like the Worldly stereotype of African people. I wont dispute the similarities between Sub-Saharan and Arabian culture in the redguards but we all know what Bethesda meant when they came up with the redguards. Which to me it doesn't matter I'm happy to have a strong warrior race that depicts my races strength and culture in a great video game franchise.
I've been watching all you're videos back to back day and night.. It's getting weird but I can't stop. All your lore series and the teso series is amazing.
Redguards is the only race where there conquest is successful. They are the only race where they fight for independence that was successful. Amazing how such a race can power not just 1 but many. They do not seek power but independence and cooperation with other race by showing strength.
I don't know if you'll read this but I want you to know I appreciate the work you've done so much. You've changed my experience with this game 1000000000000times. Thank you.
+Speedy Cord That'll never happen. Skyrim has been fighting Hammerfell over hundreds of years. If there is one thing that Forebears and Crowns agree on, is to hate Skyrim.
Agreed. If the Redguards and Nords have a war treaty with the Orcs, oh man, an unstoppable force. Redguards, natural talented warriors, skilled martial arts, and their power over seas. Nords, cunning warriors, shouts of the dragons, and huge morale. Orcs, great forgers, resourceful, and cunning brute force of will and is consider the tanks of all races.
since I started playing Elder Scrolls, (Morrowind all day, baby) I've loved the Nords. but the last couple years have seen me falling in love with Redguards. to the point where my first and main character in Skyrim is a Redguard cleric. (think Sarenrae's clerics in Pathfinder. light armor, scimitars, a bit of restoration, and a bit of fire destruction and fire enchanted weapons. a Dervish Dancer, basically)
This story reminds me of the moors the redguards are basically moors .great in combat and just look at their outfits that is if you know who the moors are.
actually their tactics, weapons, culture, prowess ,color ,dresses and names are heavily early middle eastern and north African early Arabs. but im not surprised of you're description because the moor are of arab and berber descent, but the cloth, is freakishly the same as the first islamic crusades armor.
sm901ftw Because I'm tired of green forests and meadows in every RPG. It would be an original setting that could offer possibilities for interesting gameplay features like environmental dangers (sandstorms, dehydration) and cool creature designs (sandworms, various reptiles, maybe something inspired by Tatooine's wildlife). Although they could make both Hammerfell and High Rock available so that the desert doesn't get repetitive.
Max Payne I must admit that the prospect of visiting the country of Hammerfell is quite enticing and personally would love to venture through a graphically redone Highrock. However the problem is just that, High Rock has already been used in an Elder Scrolls game. Thus making the probability of returning very low. This I believe is due to the less malleable lore it contains as they have already set a portion of its lore in stone. So while I must admit that they should without a doubt set an up-coming Elder Scrolls game in Hammerfell, I highly doubt they would enlarge its range to cover High Rock as well. However, that is not to say that they cannot add such things as cliffs, an oasis, or other such things within Hammerfell to make it feel less barren. Anyhow regardless anything I just said, I do truly hope they will add Hammerfell in the next game and would enjoy the addition of High Rock on the side. Though if they can't get High Rock to fit in, I am quite content with just Hammerfell.
I think the best setting would be Black Marsh, because it's basically unexplored by any other race except the Argonians, and it's so mysterious and lifelike, then on top of that, the Argonians are a whole nother mystery, being that they have an entire different god that they worship. Just think, how awesome would it be to finally explore the misty swamps and dense jungles of Black Marsh, and instead of activating a shrine to one of the Divines, you can activate a Hist Tree! Imagine the quests you could do there, or even a main story! There's so many unexplored possibilities and magics that could be found in Black Marsh. That would be such a luscious title, too: The Elder Scrolls VI: Argonia or The Elder Scrolls VI: Black Marsh
As a lore nerd, I love this series. I always like to know more about the universe I'm inhabiting, because (like you), I like to roleplay. I don't play a game to mash buttons and see pretty colors, I play to experience another world, another life. That said, you could just read off wiki pages and I'd be happy. But the voice, the heart you give each video (so far, this and the Fallout series that I've watched) is by far the best thing about it. I'm not just hearing about "what happened," I'm hearing it like I'm talking to someone within that universe, living that life. Thanks, man, these are great.
Wood elves are my favourite so I don't know if I'm being biased but who else thinks valenwood would be a great place for tes6 though I don't really fancy being a cannibal every fucking time
Since all the societies and ruling local cultures in TES games are petty and idiotic in an attempt to add more depth, I always play as a foreigner, usually a Bosmer, but more recently a Khajiit. If TES6 takes place in Valenwood, I might even play as a humanzee for once, or an Arsimer. lol
Oh youre not the only one friend. The green beautiful landscape would be ideal. The "garden of tamriel" just.. perfect i can imagine it being so beautiful
***** yes actually also including the early turks too which later took control of all the arabic regions and beyond, basically Redguards are fantasized version of the stereotyped muslim and abbasid, seljuk, and ottoman empire mix.
***** 1. Arabs didnt push, kill, anyone out of their land 2. All the clothes and the gear they are wearing is north african arabian gear. 3. Although some black most redguards are not african they are dark skinned arabs or light skinned arabs or just berberis. 4. their sailing ships, warriors., culture etc is almost all abbasid (turk, berberi, arab, farsi, afghan mixed people, basically Middle Eastern) 5. writing a lot of things then saying I have no evidence about anything doesn't make your essay any more true, you gave more theoretical answers rather than facts like me
***** I didnt say that bro. I said Abbasid which is Berberi (sub saharan) arabic turk farsi afghan and punjabi and TURKISH that is a lot of people and there a lot of arabic people that are 100% black african. but thank you for being polite
Elven soldier:Under law of the white gold concordant we are here to claim this land in the name of the aldmeri in Dominion.Redguards:I hope the fuck you do!!!!!!!!!!
I understand that the Aldmeri Dominion was strong enough to completely wipe out several of the Legions armies, but I seriously doubt an army full of the best of the best Redguards, Dark Elves, Nords, Bretons, Orcs, Bosmer and Legionnaire troops could lose to just the Altmer.
The Bosmer are only the "best" archers, and scouts. The Khajiit are not renowned for their combat prowess at all. And the Altmer are just really good wizards. Now let's list the Empire's advantages. Orcs: Known as the BEST warriors, striking fear into their enemies. Heavy armor, 2-Handed weapons. Plus the Smithing prowess. Redguards: Which was gone over in this video, being highly skilled warriors being able to use many different weapons and armor, and skilled navy. Bretons: The most skilled Magic users of the Man races, and THE best Battlemages. Heavy Armor + Magic, also they can boast the best Conjuration. Nords: Strong-hearted warriors wielding light armor and 2-handed or 1-handed weapons they have been a part of the Legion ever since the creation of the Empire. Dark Elves: Known for being able to be good at Archery, Magic, and being a Warrior. And being able to mix the three. And last but not least the Imperials: Known for their superior tactics, and being able to rally their troops. Heavy armor + sword and shield usually. With all of these advantages I don't know why the Legion was brought to it's knees like it was.
YT Sean Thats bullshit friend, some Khajiit breeds are called 'Jaguar-Men' for a reason: with just the claws they could easily beat a legionaire without even having a blade! (Look at Skyrim Khajiit Claws have 15 damage and the Imperial blades only 9)
Mikhail d Regarding the lore of the Khajiit they aren't really known as the "The Great Warriors of Elsweyr" that's just not their thing. Yes in Skyrim they have an unarmed bonus but every Khajiit in the game wields a weapon, why? Because according to the lore weapons are still the best option. And I'm not making fun of the Khajiit, they're one of my favorite races to play as. (Behind Bretons, and above Nords!)
YT Sean Khajiit aren't great warriors, but they are EXTREMELY diverse race-wise. They range from mamoth size-battlecats to housecat sized spellcasters and spies. Imagine a giant sabre cat-esque beast and a top of that, multiple khajiit warrior (Maybe archers) This would be devastating to an imperial legion. Imagine how easy gathering enemy intel would be when you could have a housecat just sneak in to an commander's tent and eavesdrop. Just thinking about how the Cyrodillic light armor infantry of the Legion would be destroyed by the so called 'Jaguar Men' of Elsweyr the same men who tower even high above High Elves This all combined together could possibly make them one of the greatest war time races. Simply because they are diverse they could use different breeds for fighting different battles etc. If you really wanna know Khajiit wartime tactics read: Mixed Unit Tactics you can find it in all TES Games
Redguards, the best of the Human races. The Crowns in particular, as they opposed the despotic Imperials. I also like the Dunmer for their fierce disdain of conquerors, like the Nedes, and the Imperials afterwards.
Varshava Kadnikov Ironic since the Crowns wouldn't exist without their conquering Forebear cousins. Double so that you respect the Dunmer given their conquests in Black Marsh that they only ever let go after Red Mountain erupted
The Crowns were descended from the rulers of Old Yokuda. Following your logic, the Forebears would not exist if they were not ruled over, as all states must have rulers, and so without the rulers, there would be no state, and no state means no Forebears. Also, the Archeins sold slaves to the Dunmer. Not all Argonians were part of the An-Xileel hive mind.
Varshava Kadnikov I just consider it ironic you like Crowns and Dunmer for resisting the Empire when they themselves are pretty tyrannical. And I wasn't just referring to slaves, I meant actual land conquests.
They only took some land. They didn't subjugate and enslave all the other provinces. Also, the Crowns and Dunmer are better than the Empire, for they are more interesting. Quite so for the Dunmer, as they are one of the most fantastical races in the Elder Scrolls, with only Argonia being comparable.
Is Hammerfell independent from Tamriel now because they were the only ones who successfully avoided the White Gold Treaty as they actually forced the Dominion to sign a treaty after the Redguards forced the Thalmor out of Hammerfell?
Preston Garvey Yep! They're still allied with the Empire as far as I know or at least on peaceful terms, but as of Skyrim they are totally independent of both the Dominion and the Empire.
Maybe it was some really obscure text in-game, or me just imagining things, but didn't Yokuda sink because the Sword Singers (Masters of crafting blades), made a sword sharp enough to cut atoms, and thus sank the island as Redguards were already settling in Hammerfell? It could just be me....
***** Oh, I know that they created spirit swords. And perhaps still small bits of Yokuda are intact. But I'm of the mind the Sword Singers were the cause. Even if it might be Redguard propaganda.
Dogus Piyadeci Aww man, that sucks :/ I was expecting it to be a mix between carabean-style western coast, collovian highlands to the east and forested hills and mountains to the north.
Anyways thank you for letting me post this on your Channel the real reason why have decided to talk about it on your page is because your videos have been a main inspiration for this mod it is still in the distant future but it is under production I just figured I would talk about it on social media at least once and your channel simply felt right thank you keep up the good work
I really want the next Elder scrolls to be set in Both High-rock and Hammerfell. There is a lot of interesting history there, and the civil wars would make great quest lines. Imagine being able to sail around the sea between the two provinces, and the politics and adventure that would follow the PC over that quest line!
This video makes me kinda support the storm cloaks now.....seeing as how Hammerfell could totally kick the Elves asses along with the help of the nords.
I joined the stormcloaks, with the headcanon that my character would later assasinate Ulfric, and become a jarl and eventually High King himself. Besides, Cyrodiil will fall regardless of your choice by ES VI, Causing the other nations to branch into independant nations/smaller empires. It's much easier than creating two different storylines based on a previous playthrough, and TES games are designed so they can be played without needing the other games. They'll likely just say "the events of skyrim's civil war weakened the empire" without indicating anywhere who won.
I agree they need to stop hating the dark elves, but an alliance wouldn't gain much. They were devastated three-fold. First by the Oblivion crisis, then by the eruption of red mountain, then by the invasion of the Argonians. The Dark Elves have very little left, which is why they're now occupying slums in Skyrim.
Snooze612 indeed. me and Snooze will take the land for the redguards. me ultimatly killing Snooze for control of all the lands after he try to divide it up into some sort of north south thing. the skooma practicly took over his life by then, so i did him a favor.
@@inquisitorsalt115 oh boy I'm 2 years too late, it's true when walking in Pro-stormcloak cities as an eleven race the guards will treat you with disdain but strangely I walk in those same cities as a Redguard they seem neutral, in fact I don't think The Stormcloaks have any problems with Redguards
I would like to add that the Redguards are heavily based on the ancient Moors of Africa who travelled the world, taught the Europeans mathematics, science and how to build the toughest castles and more.... Whiped out from Western history books. They where the original Celts and ruled Scotland which was called Caledonia at the time. They also took over Saturnia and renamed it Rome, where also the first Celts, where also the first Vikings and Halfdan the Black was the first king to unite Norway, often depicted as a white man today. Look into it! Interesting stuff.
Scuba Steve look up Moorish statues in Europe you will see Statues and Images of black men all over. Also look up John Swart( nick named little black boy) and a building named after him. It helps if you do actually research and not Eurocentric research, also you didn't have to act irrational and rude you already lost the argument using emotions rather than logic. One again your hatred for the people the made you what you are is laughable keep it up though it's leading to your demise.
ShadowStarKing _"look up Moorish statues in Europe"_ Give a name of one of these "moorish statues" outside Spain? Statues normally have names you know. Also name one that was in Ireland? I'm from Ireland and i'm about to entertain your horseshit. _"irrational and rude you already lost the argument using emotions rather than logic."_ Except the thing is there wasn't a shred of "logic" in OP's post. Do you even know what logic is? What he said was pseudo-history or history revisionist bullshit. For example he claims Halfdan the Black was a black African because of his nickname when its clear fucking cut in writing, he was called "the black" because of his HAIR COLOR. Various vikings are called "the red" and "the brown" for this reason too. Where exactly is the logic in that? That on top of his claim that "Celts were black", "Vikings were black, "Romans were black" without a shred of historical evidence backing him up. His "evidence" is moors invaded Spain for a hundred year period which is not only completely unrelated but further ahead in history too. So apparently everyone in Europe was somehow black, whites apparently just sprouted out from the ground and these "black celts and black vikings" just vanished without a trace. Ya so "logical" dude.
There are no Moorish influence in Ireland/England they didn't travel there. as for the statues here ya go Moorish statue in Germany www.pinterest.com/pin/497295983825702528/ Here's a french artifact www.pinterest.com/pin/127789708155765361/ Code of Arms www.pinterest.com/pin/404198135277448425/ Moorish artifacts in Roman catholic church www.quora.com/Is-it-true-that-black-Moors-were-in-control-of-Europe-for-centuries here is another good read atlantablackstar.com/2014/06/01/moors-saints-knights-kings-african-presence-medieval-renaissance-europe/ And there is much more if you dare to do the research, No one here claimed the moors were in Ireland but they were definitely in Northern Europe the evidence is there( my sources and your willingness to research and except the truth) its up to you to come to a conclusion, I know this is rough for you to handle but OP is right. [Edit] I guess there were Moorish kings in England www.africaresource.com/rasta/sesostris-the-great-the-egyptian-hercules/king-charles-stuart-ii-king-of-england-aka-the-black-boy/ King Casper of Germany miamorebey.tumblr.com/post/54066278087/antisquared-the-moorish-king-caspar-by
Tbond96 Smart and wise warriors, you know the ones with the wit and on the spot thinking capable of winning small skirmishes and major battles, yeah THOSE warriors will be the first to say battle should be avoided at every cost. And if it must be done, then I'll be glad to do it. You confuse warriors with warmongers. Massive differences. One seeks only power, the other, the warrior, understands wisdom in and out of combat. That's why they are warriors. Your comment is that of a soldier believing they are more then just another statistic.
Grim I'm black and can tell that the elder scrolls games take place in real life medieval time at that time period Arabs were black before white Europeans mixed with black africans
Oscar Sanchez Arabs are a mix of Africans and Saxons. As much as it pains people very few gene pools on the planet are pure. Black is a loaded term, it's a colour not a people. You live on the continent of Africa you're African, period. To say you're not African because you're not as dark as them is silliness. Most so call "races" are cultures that are hybrid of African and Saxon genetics.
Oscar Sanchez Since all humanity can be traced back to Africa, everyone is technically a African. I won't use that a definition though. Arabs are a mixed people, it's a fact that the African Arabs are the originals. " it is the Egypto-African race (Qahtani) who are the pure Arabs, while the stately Semitics of the north are Musta'rab (Adnani)" In the USA, Arabs have historically been racially classified as white/Caucasian and, since 1997, by the U.S. Census as well. The Arabs we see today are not the same as the original Arabs. Don't find it odd that they have Saxon features but live in Africa? I could go on, but I'm trying to get over this flu before I get my xbone
I'd say, although I'm not an expert, that the Redguards were based on some of the Northern African peoples, such as the Algerians or the Moroccans orperhaps the Egyptians, as all of these countries are a part of North Africa, if I'm right. In any case, this series is a fascinating breakdown of the races and peoples of the Elder Scrolls universe. Very interesting!
The Redguards are clearly based off of West African Muslims from Mali empire(not sure where these Nubian claims come from?), Tuaregs and Saharan Berbers. Heck the creator of the Redguards intended them to be Black.
+RaiNE Grime they are all races proeminent in battle and the best ones in their own right... Nords are known to be good in war and have great leaders(Ysgramor, Talos) but are too traditionalist for their own good the orcs are by far the strongest of tamriel races and the best blacksmiths, perhaps with the excpetion of the Dwemer, but lack discipline, and redguards have a martial culture but lack unity.... just the same as the Bretons, Dunmer and Altmer are known to be good spell casters and the Argonians, Khajiit and Bosmer are the most agile and sneaky of the races... the imperials are the only well rounded race... Bethesda thought really well about their races so no race is intrinsically better than the other well being really good at something... personally my favorite race is the Bretons =)
Redguards are proficient with the sword. Nords are great light armorer warriors. Orcs are great heavy armored tanks and favor battle axes and hammers. They're all great warriors in the own way.
Redguards are based on medieval arabs/persians and sub-saharan africans such as Nubians, Imperials are based on ancient romans & greeks, Nords are based on scandinavians and ancient germanics & celtics tribes, Bretons are based on western medieval europeans (mostly french and english).
Redguard seem to have a hint of oriental influence as well. Nation of Islands, Martial artists (Japan)
OcihEvE Akavir is based on chinese/japanese culture.
Duh?
The redguards are based on the original Moorish people. Not sure why there are so many threads on it but yeah 😊
The idea for redguards was sort of a "black samurai" kind of theme.
"Rocks and sand as far as the eye can see. It's hard to believe anything could live here. Hammerfell It is the barren scab of Tamriel. An unforgiving place that seems to want to kill anything that lives in it"

I think the Daggerfall Covenant has the best race composition. An army built around Orc tanks, Redguards for melee DPS and Bretons for support magic with melee or straight up battle mages.
***** The pact is such an unlikely and unstable alliance, they will probably slaughter each other before they can do anything worthwhile.
For the dominion
Bretons will go as apc, who the fk plays support anyways.
Daggerfall Covenant will Win the Xbox One Version. Because of the Bretons, RedGuards, and Orcs. Because I'm a RedGuard for life. For the Covenant

You were right! Looks like its going to be High Rock and Hammerfell
Redguards are badass, beat the elves alone while the empire failed.
Not me. Most of my characters are Redguards.
"You see those warriors from Hammerfell? They've got curved swords. *Curved. Swords*."
PartiZAn18 They're called knives, not swords. Swords are long and sharp and powerful. Hammerfell swords are none of these things.
***** go watch 13th warrior you cultureless cretin.
I love that in many fantasy settings there are no black people but in the Elder Scrolls universe they are one of the most badass people out there.

+Vault boy what about The Elder Scrolls VI: Tamriel, surely there is nothing to limit this right?
Leon Chatterton YES
the red guards are clearly based off of the moorish kingdoms of northern Africa and spain. they resemble north-western africans such as morrocans, malians, mauritanians (moors in general).
the culture is also very african. towering domes, busy bazaars and turbans; also found in arabia, persia and india. the land of hammerfell is very much like northern africa and the middle east. i like to think of hammer fell as mostly desert and the north being medditerenean (like the northern coast of africa) and the south being sub-tropical like western africa's tropical coast (such as stros m'kai) what do you guys think?
oh, and ancient yokuda must have been like ancient egypt. the large red guard pyramids made of black stone and ivory with a very advanced culture and technology and one of the oldest civilisations on nirn.
redgaurds are my favourite race and have a very interesting history; especially ancient yokuda
Actually, moorish combat gear was very similiar to european stuff. Hell, people in africa still favoured straightswords for a long time after the scimitar was introduced.
not everywhere, the traditional Ashanti sword in what is now Ghana and Ivory coast preferred the curved sword similar to the scimitar.
ine astern Africa and northern africa many preferred robes to armour and wielded 'curved swords'.
aye, it is true that the moorish did use 'european weapons' but that was after their golden age. the original moors invaded europe with their traditional weaponry and gear.
today many africans who keep to the old ways use straightswords indeed but many, again in western africa use curved weapons and wear turbans, particularly desert warriors, whilst the tropical africans by the coast prefer straight swords or spears.
kwadwo baidoo
You got that backwords. Straight swords where the norm in northern Africa before the scimitar was introduced. It was after that they where slowly replaced by curved swords, as it later happened in Europe. And they always used turban in northern Africa, but the spearhead helm is distinctly eastern. Not something you'd see on a black African.
i beg to differ. the ancient egyptians used the scimitar as did the nubians. the helmet was used by the moors of western and northern africa
kwadwo baidoo
Differ all you want, the scimitar is an arabic adaptation of the chinese saber that slowly crept its way to the western world via the turks.
I love everything about the redguards 😊

Black people don't fuck with magic....
I think it all comes down to ignorance, or fear of the unknown. A sword is a sword. A dangerous, but simple weapon. You always know what to expect. But magic? There is so much left to discover, and so many different strands that you could spend your lifetime studying it and only understand a small amount.

FUCK NO. It's gonna take place in crappy Summerset Isles or Valenwood then for sure. No thanks. Elsweyr, Hammerfell or nothing.

Redguards seem to be a combination of africans and ancient arabic countrymen.
They are based on the MOORS! Look up Moor or Moorish.
+Shaka Zulu The moors were black bro, Look it up.

Yeah, Oblivion didn't make them seem too interesting & never played Morrowind, but once Skyrim came around and I first laid eyes on the Alik'r warriors my opinions about them changed. Unfortunately I was too invested in my Nord character at the time to make another.
I love the Redguards, their culture, their beliefs, everything. The whole lore is interesting.

This show's freaking awesome. Clears up so much of the skyrim lore.

This story reminds me of the moors the redguards are basically moors .great in combat and just look at their outfits that is if you know who the moors are.
Exactly.
actually their tactics, weapons, culture, prowess ,color ,dresses and names are heavily early middle eastern and north African early Arabs. but im not surprised of you're description because the moor are of arab and berber descent, but the cloth, is freakishly the same as the first islamic crusades armor.

Thank you for this video. I learned something about a game that I have been playing for years. This is all new to me. Thank you again for this video.
The Elder Scrolls VI should take place in Hammerfell; and at some point re-introduce Orsinium
Hammerfell has to be the setting of TES VI.
Why? It's mostly just the Alik'r Desert.
sm901ftw Because I'm tired of green forests and meadows in every RPG.
Max Payne Play New Vegas then.
That would be such a luscious title, too:
The Elder Scrolls VI: Argonia
or
The Elder Scrolls VI: Black Marsh
Elder Scrolls VI should take place in Hammefell and High Rock.

Since all the societies and ruling local cultures in TES games are petty and idiotic in an attempt to add more depth, I always play as a foreigner, usually a Bosmer, but more recently a Khajiit. If TES6 takes place in Valenwood, I might even play as a humanzee for once, or an Arsimer. lol

Elven soldier:Under law of the white gold concordant we are here to claim this land in the name of the aldmeri in Dominion.Redguards:I hope the fuck you do!!!!!!!!!!
I always play as Redguard...
What about the sinistral elves/left handed elves in Yokuda?
7 years later and I'm back here bro! Fantastic!
The Aldmeri Dominion is made up of the Bosmer and Khajiit not to mention the Altmer's superior magic skills.
Just thinking about how the Cyrodillic light armor infantry of the Legion would be destroyed by the so called 'Jaguar Men' of Elsweyr the same men who tower even high above High Elves
This all combined together could possibly make them one of the greatest war time races.
Yeah they are part of tamriel but not apart of the empire or elves
You sir have got talent! Great format and great approach to telling the lore!
*****
Oh, I know that they created spirit swords. And perhaps still small bits of Yokuda are intact. But I'm of the mind the Sword Singers were the cause. Even if it might be Redguard propaganda.
I honestly think Hammerfell is mostly habitable, simmilar to Cyrodiil or High Rock, it's only the Alik'r desert that's harsh and shit.
It's not tho. Most of Hammerfell is dessert
Dogus Piyadeci Aww man, that sucks :/
I was expecting it to be a mix between carabean-style western coast, collovian highlands to the east and forested hills and mountains to the north.
Yeah I would expect the same since it has border to High Rock, Cyrodiil and Skyrim
LOL. its like Australia lots of land. only 10% inhabitable.
I meant habitable
I'm going to be a redguard since my skin is closest to theirs lol
i just love how you and thenthapple do these lore series they're really cool.
"who would live in hammer fell"
the dwemer thats who
love the back ground story of the redguards aka moors aka north africans sounds like real life if u think about it
.... the redguards are also very good at basketball
Rell never really seen a brown man play basket ball but if you say so.
James Legrand lmao 😂
Rell haha ang ur racist.
Kaea Walker I'm black lol i can't dance and I can't play basketball been breaking stereotypes my whole life
Rell There is no basketball in nirn
Anyways thank you for letting me post this on your Channel the real reason why have decided to talk about it on your page is because your videos have been a main inspiration for this mod it is still in the distant future but it is under production I just figured I would talk about it on social media at least once and your channel simply felt right thank you keep up the good work
Elves be like "We think and men will turn into ashes" Redguards be like "Those pointy eared pricks have good land, kill them all." and it was so.
The Redgaurds should just conquer all of Tamriel and the Elder Scrolls series. Maybe then we could move to another continent.
The Redguards are awesome.
I really want the next Elder scrolls to be set in Both High-rock and Hammerfell. There is a lot of interesting history there, and the civil wars would make great quest lines. Imagine being able to sail around the sea between the two provinces, and the politics and adventure that would follow the PC over that quest line!
This video makes me kinda support the storm cloaks now.....seeing as how Hammerfell could totally kick the Elves asses along with the help of the nords.
don't.
Ulfric is boiled ass butter
Storm cloaks are racist
I joined the stormcloaks, with the headcanon that my character would later assasinate Ulfric, and become a jarl and eventually High King himself. Besides, Cyrodiil will fall regardless of your choice by ES VI, Causing the other nations to branch into independant nations/smaller empires. It's much easier than creating two different storylines based on a previous playthrough, and TES games are designed so they can be played without needing the other games. They'll likely just say "the events of skyrim's civil war weakened the empire" without indicating anywhere who won.
yeah if they'd just stop yelling at dark elf's too leave "their" town and start making an alliance with them they could possibly destroy the dominion
I agree they need to stop hating the dark elves, but an alliance wouldn't gain much. They were devastated three-fold. First by the Oblivion crisis, then by the eruption of red mountain, then by the invasion of the Argonians. The Dark Elves have very little left, which is why they're now occupying slums in Skyrim.
selfie at 3:17
7:10 Why haven't you washed off the blood from your axe Barry? That's friggin gross man.
wasn't sure how i wanted to roleplay my new redguard character, this video helped a lot, thanks!
Only like 5 years until we get to see it in ES6.
CURVED. SWORDS.
We Redguards will take Cyrodiil when the Elder Scrolls comes out!
*online
NOIT WONT THE MAIN STORY WILL MAKE YOUR ALIENCE WIN BUT SAY ANYONE COULD CLAIM THE MOST LAND FOR THER ALLIENCE
Yeah but the emperor will be Redguard.
Snooze612 indeed. me and Snooze will take the land for the redguards. me ultimatly killing Snooze for control of all the lands after he try to divide it up into some sort of north south thing. the skooma practicly took over his life by then, so i did him a favor.
and my name in history will be...
...Snooze the Drugseller
Best to watch this in tandem with MrRhexx's '5 Things You Didn't Know About Hammerfell.'
when I play as a redguard, I join the stormcloaks, and kill every thalmor I see.
I usually join the imperials just because the stormcloaks hate pretty much every race besides the nords
+Hatch Vega. That's some great psuedo-history drivel you got there. What Afrocentric website did you read it off?
Scuba Steve no its true, but the system of white supremacy has brain washed and conditioned you to hate black people
Scuba Steve look up Moorish statues in Europe you will see Statues and Images of black men all over.
ShadowStarKing
_"look up Moorish statues in Europe"_
Give a name of one of these "moorish statues" outside Spain? Statues normally have names you know. Also name one that was in Ireland? I'm from Ireland and i'm about to entertain your horseshit.
_"irrational and rude you already lost the argument using emotions rather than logic."_
Except the thing is there wasn't a shred of "logic" in OP's post.
There are no Moorish influence in Ireland/England they didn't travel there.
as for the statues here ya go

here is another good read
atlantablackstar.com/2014/06/01/moors-saints-knights-kings-african-presence-medieval-renaissance-europe/
And there is much more if you dare to do the research,
No one here claimed the moors were in Ireland but they were definitely in Northern Europe the evidence is there( my sources and your willingness to research and except the truth) its up to you to come to a conclusion, I know this is rough for you to handle but OP is right.
[Edit]
I guess there were Moorish kings in England

God damnit hahahahahahaha
God dammit! I was going to reply that...Lol
I though the same thing!!!!
#nofilter
dude you nailed it xD
Kinda weird how a super got desert is next to Skyrim which is snowy and High rock which is a mild temperature forest like Cyrodiil lol
For me the redguards are the best
diog gomzalez PS: I really hate elves
diog gomzalez Skeerum baby
But dunmer! How can you hate dunmer! They're grecoindians!
Arshan Hasan They're also khajiti and argonian slave drivers soo.... Its pretty fun to watch dunmer die.
Segeb Gaming You take this far more seriously than I do
Didnt the redguards nuke Yokuda with the sword singers
And also "Don't go blowing anything up" Or something like that and my personal favorite "So you can cast a few spells, am I supposed to be impressed?"
Redguards are not Arabians or Persians . Redguards are base from North Africans in Sahara.
some say ther based off the moors
I like the RedGaurds, they're kinda like the Spartans.
The imperials are like Spartans.
+John Biddle what?
+Pure Cancer not u
+John Biddle it's not Egyptians I think it's more persians
+Oh Vaylo they're referring to them being the best warriors
In the episode about the Dwemer he says a splinter group went to Hammerfell. Can someone tell me what happened to them?
The rourken clan disappeared with the rest of dwemer kind, all that's left of them is volendrung and the spellbreaker.
I really love this lore series I recommend it to all my friends
" it is the Egypto-African race (Qahtani) who are the pure Arabs, while the stately Semitics of the north are Musta'rab (Adnani)"
In the USA, Arabs have historically been racially classified as white/Caucasian and, since 1997, by the U.S.
Amabar is right but it is also true that there is a lot of culturally mixing in history so it hard to say.
see people..that's a good one selfie 3:15
selfies are fucking stupid just like anything this sorry ass joke of a generation thinks is cool
The Redguards are clearly based off of West African Muslims from Mali empire(not sure where these Nubian claims come from?), Tuaregs and Saharan Berbers. Heck the creator of the Redguards intended them to be Black.
So basically Africa north of Sub-Sahara Africa and west of the Nile River of Egypt and Sudan.
The redguards are obviously west African/Black but their culture is very diverse
In my opinion they share more similarities with pre-islamic Arabian culture.
Redgauards have always been my fav. race by far!
how come every video claims each race as the best in battle, dude said the same thing for Nord's orcs and redguards..make up your mind ffs
Bethesda thought really well about their races so no race is intrinsically better than the other well being really good at something... personally my favorite race is the Bretons =)
you raise a fair point my good sir
Red guards- Egyptian
Nord- Viking
Orc- tribal warrior
It's all in style
Redguards are proficient with the sword.
Nords are great light armorer warriors.
Orcs are great heavy armored tanks and favor battle axes and hammers.
They're all great warriors in the own way.
Redguaurds the best tho. They even bested orcs.
