Love the direction Hugh Grant's career has gone over the last decade re the variety of his roles/projects (A Very English Scandal, Heretic, Wonka, Dungeons & Dragons, The Gentlemen, Florence Foster Jenkins, The Undoing & both Paddington movies), been great to watch his evolution as an actor from the bumbling romantic lead :)
You guys always make me relax and feel real good I enjoy your views and take them to heart and your always on point every movie you talk about and your always right you guys deserve a bigger platform that’s how good you guys are
Ok this looks cool My favourite Hugh Grant Villain role is in Cloud Atlas where he played multiple villains, but the one as a post-apocalyptic barbarian was terrifying.
@@justindenney-hall5875 Just re-watched it after many years with a friend of mine on Halloween. He hated it (it's really not for everybody) but I still enjoy it. It's worth it just for Amanda Donahoe's performance.
I really liked this movie. Yes, it has quite a lot of dialogue, but after seeing all the Flanagan shows that was no problem to me. Great cinematography, music and a story that kept me guessing what would happen next. I'd love to see it again when it properly releases!
I saw this film as Hugh Grant playing a creepy dirty old man now. He is not the young British lad that he used to be anymore like in Notting Hill (1999) with Julia Roberts] or 4 weddings and a funeral (1994)
I just saw this couple days ago and I don't think the ending is what you think it is. It falls in line with something that was said earlier in the movie.

I hope you guys find the time to watch this movie; it is 70 minutes long after all, but this movie will linger in your head after finishing it. Much love.
I just got back from it and watched this and you guys are super correct. First half was amazing, second half was ok. The more I think about it the more I understand why they did it the way they did at the end but doesn’t mean I loved it.
I'm a Latter-day Saint (Mormon) and a former missionary. I've met Korey at a few screenings in Austin (The Banshees of Inisherin, The Menu, Bones And All). I'm looking forward to seeing this one because of the LDS representation, but I am curious if they are going to play into typical stereotypes (nice but naive and shallow). Did you feel like it represented the missionaries well?
You're the missionary. You tell us. I can only tell you my own experience with LDS missionaries and with Mormons in general, which is generally positive. Very humble, very polite, very sincere in their beliefs (unlike some evangelical churches, who only want your money or to tell you what a bad person you are for supporting abortion or gay rights) If we skeptics seem a bit jaded, it's only cause we've had such bad experiences with the faiths we grew up in, and don't really feel like committing to another.
I’m no longer a member but I was for many years and went on a mission too - my husband and I both thought they nailed it. The characters are definitely not stereotypes.
An interesting fact I found out about is that both the actors who play the missionaries actually grew up in the LDS church themselves, according to the director they didn’t know this when they cast them. I think they are portrayed as relatively intelligent and capable. Though they have to be a little naive to end up in the situation they end up in.
You'll be pleased to know they actually subvert a lot of Mormon stereotypes, literally from the first line of dialogue. One of the missionaries is pretty worldly and there's a great moment where Hugh Grant browbeats them with a smug atheist lecture and she claps back at him calling it out as basically a bunch of shallow r/atheism bullshit. The other missionary is much more the spitting image of the naive sheltered born-in-the church Mormon girl but gets a great arc out of Grant's character underestimating her because of that.
Watching this movie I kept thinking about Speak No Evil - another one that’s about people getting into trouble because they’re too polite. Mr Reed even says an exact line that the James McAvoy character does in SNE.
Hugh Grant is opening the door. With Heretic. Expanding his career as a actor. I can see the movie. Making some uneasy. The movie looks good. I can't wait to see it. Gentlemen your doing a good job with the video. I do like your channel. I always like hearing others opinions and thoughts about movies. Don't get me wrong. I love a good slasher. Movies like terrifer. A movie like Heretic works great. Not a lot blood. Mr Reed believes he knows all about the world. This is a good video.
I found myself watching the movie and kinda expecting something wild to happen. I don’t know what it was but I felt it was leading to him revealing a religion of his own, maybe even a monster. But I left it feeling disappointed. I think the trailer led to different expectations for the film. It was a lot more of a think piece, which is okay.
That First half was so good, the Suspense, the Discussions, that iteration discussion was excellent, the build up. It was just great. But then, the film is Just trying to do way too damn much, and it does not stick the landing nearly as good as it could have🦋. They needed to streamline this thing, just rewrite that back half, it Damn near cut & paste some of Barbarian
the movie really fell apart at the end considering how detail was seemingly supposed to be such a large element to this ... the part where the two slave wifes traded places how can we believe the slave woman who can barely walk moved the table lifted a heavy door picked up a dead body somehow brought her down the chute and then carried her about 15 feet in the tunnel climbed back up shut the door moved the table back in place all in about 30 seconds (with nobody hearing anything) Yeah no sorry...this was pretty stupid...also why or how she threw up blueberry pie after she pretended to be resurrected when she wasn't even the one who ate the pie is kinda stupid after the fact. The movie was pretty good leading up to that point but those last few scenes destroyed the momentum they built up to that point. Also, people don't die from mandrake or belladonna poisoning in 15 seconds its a long excruciating death...mentioning specifically those plants was again stupid.
It was really a letdown when all that suspense and tension that built up between the women and the man in the small banter between them; and the passive aggressive remarks, ends when the covered woman enters. It then turns to gore and loses all momentum. This screenplay had so much potential, and it just falls into ridiculous explanations. That movie could have been a classic, that should have kept you on edge from the beginning to the end.
I think it can be put in the genre. Kind of a cultist religious horror in the sense that it's religious people, there are no possessions or demons, just people doing horrible things in the name of religion. I think its a bit different from ones based on catholic or Christian lore because pegan is just anything non Christian and its easier to make up rules or make it demonic as where when it's Christian it's more horrific since there are rules of love and acceptance. But I think it still counts.
I would love for some movies were God is the horror villian instead of the devil. Instead of the horror looking demonic and dark, it would look angelic and bright.
12:48 This movie might lose points for me if they are peddling tired fallacy that Christan just copied pagan religions. No, that's false, and this not me speaking as believer but someone who cares about facts. Seriously, people should have grown out of the new atheists sh*t years ago. Just a little bit of research would prove that Jesus was not copy of Horus and that Horus' mother was NOT a virgin.
As a believing practicing Mormon I loved the movie. Frankly, I think it sided with my worldview I'm not saying that there is a group of Mormons working at A24 who significantly impacted the direction this film took. However, if there were, they would probably want to express the perspective of our critics through a psychotic serial killer while having our perspective be expressed through a pair of compassionate/courageous/heroic/sympathetic missionaries Far from being anti-religious, if this movie is anything it's pro-mormon/pro-religion propaganda.

the topher grace diversion was funny. they set up the trope of him saving the day and he amounted to nothing
I found that hilarious.
The casting of Topher Grace as a mormon-chef's kiss

Hugh Grant was in a horror movie in the 80s Bram Stoker's Lair of the White Worm directed by Ken Russell

These horror movies are existential now... juicy, meaningful, and relevant experiences are depicted.
Apostle technically is a religious horror too. Starring Dan Stevens and directed by Gareth Evans of "The Raid" fame
I thinking of that one!! And Wicker Man!
A movie about faith, faith in the unknown, Hugh Grants plays Mr. Reed… Mystery… that’s some Edward “E” Nygma in Batman Forever right there lol
That's funny the focused on the Reed part of the name
