To the credit of Wicked itself, it really reinvented stage plays and a lot of the tropes still used today came from Wicked. It’s all a matter of how to outdo yourself at a certain point.
Fair warning!! The book is VERY DIFFERENT to the point where it’s basically its own thing. I would recommend reading a wiki summary or video essay instead if you want spoilers!
ANY fans of wicked and the theater should know AUDIENCE ETIQUETTE! Which means no singing/talking while watching a performance. It’s considered incredibly disrespectful to the actors who work hard so that THEIR performance is the main focus not some rando in the crowd who was fork #3 in Beauty and the beast in high school. Them being “excited for it” is no good reason to start singing in the theater. Korey is 100% right on this!
When I went to see it, I was fortunate enough to have nobody singing while the movie was going. Unfortunately, there were a bunch of teenagers screeching the Defying Gravity riff ( not singing , literally just screaming it) over and over again in the theater hallway when it was done. 😣
That sub plot really comes back in a big way in the second half. The 11 o clock hour song of the musical is the REAL moment and I can't wait to see how it unfolds on the big screen.
The performances of the witch and Galinda was OSCAR WORTHY and I'm not about musicals. Never saw Wicked, but the transition from Broadway to the big screen was great. Never saw Ariana on screen, she really did kill it
I'm in the same boat. The poster thing I know she apologized for but the way she talked about the two other actresses that auditioned for Glenda? That was uncalled for. But! I love Wicked and I'm going to do my best and see Elphaba instead of her lol
Speaking of singers who can act instead of actors who can sing, that was my one complaint about the casting. It was a minor complaint, but Jeff Goldbloom doesn't sing at anywhere close to the level of his scene partners. If they wanted star power, Hugh Jackman would have been a better choice. Goldbloom's a great actor for the role, but his singing voice is mediocre.
Just watched this movie. It was great. I didn't even think of the Tin Man, Lion, and Scarecrow getting an origin story themselves. It was hinted at, that the prince guy will eventually be scarecrow, the redhead guy that liked Galinda will be Tin Man and the Lion will just be one of the animals escaping capture in later films.
Hell no Martin, you don't sing at the theatre or the cinema. You pull that at the theatre and people will hate you for doing it. People paid for the professionals, man.
The movie sets were all practical. Everyone wanted to pay homage/tribute to all the actors and actresses who sing live eight days a week, so not only did they sing live but they turned the set into a recording studio as well.
Loved the review/especially being new to the material !CAUTION!:the book is *ALOT* darker than the Broadway show. just know the stage play is not as faithful to the book, as the movie was to the play. (Ie. Dear parents, Definitely vet it 1st before gifting to children for Christmas 🥴) But since waiting a year sucks, and the play is expensive; I hope anyone else new to the material gets their part 2 ending however it floats their boat best ❤ don’t let me caution keep u from reading away :) First time viewer/ new subscriber :) great convo guys! Ariana grande was on a teens/kids show that us 2000s babies grew up with. Her being a big singer out of no where was a huge twist even tho she could sing well on the show
The movie was honestly so amazing that I kinda' empathize with Cynthia Erivo as too why she got mad about that fan poster. When you're so incredibly invested in a character that they become a part of you, sometimes you can get emotional about a character in such a way. And she got really emotional about this role. She connects with it. I still think she got mad over nothing, but I can see WHY she got mad. Plus it also helps that she absolutely killed it as Elphaba.
I think she got mad at the fan art because she immediately thought they OJ'ed her with the dark shadowing and got understandably reactionary thinking it was another racist hate-campaign attack like that of John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran getting bullied by racist Star Wars fanboys.

Every single movie that has ever been made is political and every concept of good vs evil is the battle of one concept vs another concept. A movie being political doesn't mean jack squat. The quality of the movie around it's message is what will always matter and whether or not it entertains you and you have a good time. When the quality of the movie is good, that is all that matters. Even if you think the only non-politcal movies are those black and white 'artpiece' movies that show an egg on a skillet for 10 minutes and then the movie ending. But if you ask the people that make those movies they will give you a 30 minute diatribe about the deeper meanings behind it. So yeah, even those movies. What matters is two things 1) Is the movie good? 2) Does it entertain you? That's it.

@@brianng8350 Siskel & Ebert said that they had one of the best jobs ever, but it can be rough at times when they feel that a movie is wasting their life.
Really? You know how many friends and relationships Korey and Martin have lost as a result of this job?
It’s not all fun and games.
THE FULL INTRO BABY! Now the Makeup makes Sense🤣
I will warn you as someone who has seen the Broadway musical and also read the book, the book is not the same as the musical. The ending is completely different in the book and not as good.
Seconding this, the book is heavily PG-13, maybe rated R at some points. If my parents had known when I was sixteen they probably wouldn't have let me read it😂
Book is much sadder, more political, more tragic. It's exhausting tbh.
I just started the series and it's different than I expected for sure.
I'm glad Cynthia Erivo is getting her moment to shine. She's a huge talent.
The movie was good. Read the book, haven't seen the musical. Hope part 2 is darker/better.
Same part 2 was my favorite part of the stage musical. And because they split it into, I really hope they go more in depth with the social political aspects and the darker tone, similar to the book
Tamar Braxton: "Why is she green?" 😂
tamar have you ever seen the show
"I'll get you my pretty! And your little soul too!"- Freddy Krueger
I hate the Wizard of Oz but the Wicked musical and now the film as a disabled person Wicked moved me and spoke to me making me cry so fuck off back over the rainbow Dorothy and leave ToTo I'm certain he can find a more stable home
No lie , I was laughing so hard at the thumbnail that it took me 5min to hit play.
Korey looking like shrek after taking a shower
ANY fans of wicked and the theater should know AUDIENCE ETIQUETTE! Which means no singing/talking while watching a performance. It’s considered incredibly disrespectful to the actors who work hard so that THEIR performance is the main focus not some rando in the crowd who was fork #3 in Beauty and the beast in high school. Them being “excited for it” is no good reason to start singing in the theater. Korey is 100% right on this!
Might watch this movie in the hood aint no one gunna be singing 😂
Right I was like who in the world knows all the songs 😂
@@MissN77 I am 85% positive there are gays in the hood who know defying gravity by heart, especially in NYC
@@juliannehannes11 I believe it
@@MissN77You'd be surprised.
You’re in for a surprise then lol
im hearing really good things about this

I saw it on stage in NYC, I didn’t realize that a defying gravity was a song and it definitely gave me goosebumps. I also read the book afterwards.
WICKED is essentially FANFIC 😂
I agree, I HATE audience members singing, it makes me feral, I didn't pay to hear them
30:59 the look on Korey's face is like "well I'll fly myself out then, gee wiz Martin"
When I went to see it, I was fortunate enough to have nobody singing while the movie was going.
Unfortunately, there were a bunch of teenagers screeching the Defying Gravity riff ( not singing , literally just screaming it) over and over again in the theater hallway when it was done. 😣
The answer you are looking for is Adele Dazeem. Him messing up her name is my favorite clip of John Travolta 😂
That sub plot really comes back in a big way in the second half. The 11 o clock hour song of the musical is the REAL moment and I can't wait to see how it unfolds on the big screen.
I’m offended that Cory is doing Green Face, such racism 😂🤣😂🤣😂
What’s the point of Julien being there if he doesnt see the movies with you guys?
He kind of throws the vibe off sometimes
@ right! My thing is Chris Herman and others used to add commentary he just sits there and laughs most the time!
He brings nothing to the discussion.
The performances of the witch and Galinda was OSCAR WORTHY and I'm not about musicals. Never saw Wicked, but the transition from Broadway to the big screen was great. Never saw Ariana on screen, she really did kill it
I cant wait to see it. But after Cynthia's rant about the poster, i cant unsee that personality in the trailer lol
Yeah she really overreacted to the poster edits in my opinion.
Elphaba looks old as hell, it's crazy
She apologised for overreacting and said she probably should have called a friend
People make mistakes all the time
@@shippendales8543 she's just a diva being a diva. there are worst people in the movies all the time
I'm in the same boat.
Goldbloom's a great actor for the role, but his singing voice is mediocre.
the stage play is amazing. I got to see it in New York. I can't wait to see the movie.
I think Martin is going to change his mind on prequels when he see's how we get Scarecrow
This channel just randomly came across my feed and wow, so funny! Definitely, subscribing!
The Thumbnail is awesome.
I was a blubbering mess for the second half of the movie, Korey would have hated sitting next to me.😂
Loved the review/especially being new to the material
!CAUTION!:the book is *ALOT* darker than the Broadway show. just know the stage play is not as faithful to the book, as the movie was to the play. (Ie. Dear parents, Definitely vet it 1st before gifting to children for Christmas 🥴)
But since waiting a year sucks, and the play is expensive; I hope anyone else new to the material gets their part 2 ending however it floats their boat best ❤ don’t let me caution keep u from reading away :)
First time viewer/ new subscriber :) great convo guys! (And even better makeup 😅)
Ariana grande was on a teens/kids show that us 2000s babies grew up with. Her being a big singer out of no where was a huge twist even tho she could sing well on the show
If you ever watched Sam & Cat on Nickelodeon you can see where Arianna Grande honed her comedy skills
0:23 Wicked Witch Korey!
Korey looking like he be waiting outside 3 hours early at Bath and Bodyworks for the first Autumn Farts candles. 🧙
But the love story is an important part of it as well. I love that aspect of it.
Wizard of Oz was always on TNT, Charlie Brown on ABC and Rudolph on CBS every December
Yup😊
Y’all know it’s common for adults of any age to be in college right? 30s is still young and it’s very common for people to be in college in their 30s, either advancing their career or starting a new one. I’m just confused by Martin’s statement.
"Gullible stupid and crooked people" dont forget nihilistic. I have to find a whole new friend group after this election season. I mean yeah Wicked!!! In all serious i cried multiple times. Totally worth the wait
Leave your friends because of a election? Then you were never your friends group friend

What matters is two things
1) Is the movie good?
2) Does it entertain you?
That's it.
