Review elvis's 1960 studio recording of "it's now or never" no video.
Ttust me.
Love your review
Elvis presley possessed a chameleon voice that changed multiple times in his very very short life and career.
His critically acclaimed recordings are in multiple genres of music.
As good as he was live, his TRUE artistry lies in his critically acclaimed studio recordings.
1960, "it's now or never"
"Such a night"
1966, "you'll never walk alone"
@@bradhuskers not a very very short career...23 yrs going on 123 yrs...lol

Think before you speak.
He starts in 54-55. Last recordings in 76.
Two years in the army with no recording.
That's not 23 years.
Unless you don't know basic math.
It's a short career.
Billy Joel?
Elton John?
Rolling stones?
These guys have LONG CAREERS. 50-60 PLUS YEARS.
See the huge difference?
“When I first heard Elvis perform ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ it was unbelievable. I thought to myself, ‘How the hell can I compete with that?'” - Paul Simon.
True story.
why would simon need to compete with it? art sings this.
@@flickdasher1775 I guess Paul considered himself part of Simon & Garfunkel or something because that is what he told Rolling Stone.
@@dalewr38 true but, it's a bit like lennon complaining about having to sing yesterday. he didn't have to and didn't and neither did paul.
@@flickdasher1775 Simon may have been referring to the whole arrangement and performance, not just the vocal.
Elvis is so underrated as an arranger! He arranged his recordings and the music in live performances! ☮️🖖🏽
The majority of his on-stage performances (not the rock songs) were arranged by his pianist, Glen Hardin.
If you watch him in rehearsals he is the one commanding everyone! they take their cue from him. The people that worked with him said he produced and arranged but wasn’t credited. He did everything in his head the sound that he wanted. You will hear him in the studio on his many takes trying different arrangements.
@@stephenmorse8811 according to who? Considering Elvis personally chose the musicians, except the bass player who auditioned after Burden insisted he come by, the instruments were what Elvis wanted on stage. And let's not forget, Elvis dictated how he wanted them to play, except lead guitar of course. Lead was always given freedom. There's no Glen Hardin history to draw from. But there's tons of Presley's stuff that Hardin drew from. So even if Hardin claims he arranged things, Elvis led the bands approach. He pushed the band to play more notes per measure. Even the drummer said he played a lot of fills because when Elvis moved he reacted accordingly knowing what Elvis wanted. I'm not claiming Elvis did everything, but Elvis was in charge. And the history of what is said by musicians who worked in the studio with Elvis, I get the feeling Glenn may be exaggerating/revising history a tad.
I.e. Hardin saying "Elvis was good with voices", implying only with vocal arrangements, is demonstrably inaccurate.
@@icanfartloud Wow. I have been an Elvis fan for 61 years and so I am not unfamiliar with the points you have made. I am not denying that Elvis knew the sound he wanted and would direct his musicians and backup singers to that end, as seen in the rehearsal sections in both versions of Elvis That's The Way It Is. However, as regards the orchestral arrangements, it would seem that Glenn Hardin contributed significantly in preparing music sheets - not something that Elvis could have done, which is not to demean Elvis's talent as a musician in its widest sense. Your point, "I get the feeling Glenn may be exaggerating/revising history a tad", is conjecture - may or may not be true. Equally, I was not there, and so my thoughts are/were just that - thoughts, based on what I have read or heard in books/articles/interviews over many, many years.
There is an element of Elvis’s live performances that is frequently overlooked, but speaks volumes about his talent. Watching this, and others, look for moments when it’s clear that he is constantly aware of what’s happening musically behind him. He is always directing, guiding, urging his musicians as they play. He does it with physical gestures, with words, and often with just a look over his shoulder or a smile, acknowledging what he likes, encouraging sounds or tempos. He is in command of his stage. Such a Talent.
@Michael Luna - AGREE!!! Watch for him in Heaven!
He’s like a king in his court there’s really no other way to put it
The ultimate producer...and singing at the same time. In total control.
@keetonplace
And, to add to that,
His body of critically acclaimed recordings in multiple genres of music fully explains his artistry, soul, depth, and diversity.
Very true indeed!Nina really like ur review, great song pick this version is just stellar more to come....
SImon and Garfunkle were in the Audience, when he sang this, and they both looked at each other and said "HOW DO WE EVER FOLLOW HIM"; "IT IS IMPOSSIBLE"!!! He sang everything BETTER than what was ever put in front of him!!! He was absolutely SPECTACULAR!!! Thank You for reacting to this beautiful rendition of "Bridge Over Water"; like ELVIS can only do!!! This was a MASTERPIECE!!!
The simple truth is Elvis could sing any song and take it to a place that no one else had a prayer of going to.
That I didn`t know.. Were they in the audience at this show?
👑🔥Thanks ✨✨✨👌
I think Simon only, but yes he was astonished. @ziviaantjeverharius6165
Elvis was the greatest frontman in music history. Nobody was as versatile as a singer as he was. He could even sing gospel.
Very well said.
I think, in all honesty, it should be said that he could even sing rock n roll as well as gospel and blues/soul, R&B AND country, which were his original Inspirations. I totally agree with what you said as well though. He was just so great it didn't matter what he sang.
Gospel music was one of the reasons he got into music. The drug that started it
Elvis learned how to sing in church.
To Diesel: he who has not sin throw the first stone!!
The phenomenon that was and still is...ELVIS. I am a lifelong musician and vocalist, and grew up with his music. I get goosebumps when I pay attention to all the layers in every recording, every live performance. Elvis coached his backup singers, helped with arrangements. He instinctively knew where to go in every song. So inspirational, so loved, so missed. Will never be another King of Rock n Roll.
The greatest singer of all times. So emotional
Wow! How the world needs him more today than ever before... He didn't just sing with soul, he was his whole Soul doing this!
No one can outshine Elvis's powerful voice and electrifying performance
That's the king, no auto-tune, no musical education, still every cover he did was better than the original. Love your reaction very much ma'am
No one can bring tears and emotions like Elvis. He can not be explained, he just bridges every generation gap you can think of. Seeing him live must have been an experience that stayed with you as long as you lived.
IT HAS. i AM 84 & still love his music & him. No, you cannot Explain him. Nobody has the words.. I have tried for 65 years. You either feel it or you dont. Saw him in concert twice. Been to Graceland 5 times. Wish I were there tomorrow, Aug. 16th.
His performances were so great, and what so many people dont talk about, is that he produced all the music arrangements. Not only vocals, but instuments too.
Elvis was a Perfectionist with his music.. He would never settle for Less than perfect. He did as Many takes as it took to get it exactly right, & it Always was.
Exactly, and that could be from 1 to almost 40 takes, throughout his whole career.
Elvis made most of the detailed arrangement himself- om top of the guy hired to do it, - there's a video of him directing/coaching his band/choir in rehearcel of this song for this Las Vegas performance
As good as he was live, elvis's true artistry, soul depth and diversity lies in the recording studio.
His critically acclaimed recordings are in multiple genres of music.
ONE listen to the 1960. Critically acclaimed recording of "it's now or never" and you immediately understand that he's one of the all time greats.
Yes, one of his greatest strengths was in arrangements, that unique 'Elvis' sound even in previously well-known songs as here, from choosing the background vocalists to conducting when instruments came into the songs. I've heard it said if he hadn't been such a talented singer he could still have made a fantastic producer.
Shows back then didn't have all the visual effects that came in later years, Elvis really focused on his music product in meticulous detail in his Vegas years
Note: Most of the arrangement of songs were between Elvis and his pianist, Glen Hardin.
@@bradhuskers I disagree. There was nothing that compared to watching him live, each time putting a slightly different sound or word to the music, watching him perform, watching him lead his musicians and singers and interacting with them. It put a whole new layer on each performance. Some of his very best versions of songs were done live and with more passion to them than the studio versions, as great as they were.
Wonderful reaction! ELVIS version of this song makes goosepumps! His vocal range is incredible! I love ELVIS!
Elvis produced his songs both in studio and on stage from every note of music to each sound of a voice with him. He was the first to ever do this. His arrangement of Bridge is so beautiful, along with that gifted voice, it does make you tear up. You just know he is going to lay down over that troubled water for you.
He's the best singer ever!!!
His voice is what draws you to him it's incredible.
I was I think 5 or 6 years old when I first heard him and now almost 50 years later I still get goosebumps when I listen to him.
Thank you Mr. Presley for all those wonderful years
He passed when I was 10. I'm 55 now, and have listened to Elvis all of my life. The decades of other music comes and goes, but Elvis is the mainstay through it all. And yes, the emotion you feel, the chills that you feel when Elvis sings, it never goes away. I still get emotional. I still cry on some songs. I still get the chills. I've often said, "Elvis was an angel in a human body, sent to impart Heavenly grace through song". How else can you explain the combination of looks, humility, generosity, charisma, style, uniqueness among men, attraction, presence, voice, vocal range, control, emotion, and impact? Nothing like it has ever been experienced in the musical world. I'm glad to see the younger generations learning about, being introduced to, Elvis.
Your reviews are different in that you point out some technical/musical aspects of his performances. Thanks for the respectful way you review Elvis.
I have been thinking the same over the decades.
I am a Elvis fan since 1977,when i was 14 years old,i agree,Elvis is outstanding in so may aspects,so fantastic that even being a brazilian,i became a fan.( down here people like samba).
Elvis is the KING OF MUSIC...He is greater then himself
Please just listen until he is done! Then make your comments.
Did you know he built and produced that arrangement around him, you see it in the "That's the way it is " concert documentary. He sculpts exactly how he wants the harmonies and the instruments. He is often not given credit fir hid music production. Great review and it's good he brought you to tears.
He Always decided HOW a song was sung. He did arrangement & sound system.

He's the King for a reason!!
I've been listening to Elvis since I was 15...that means the last 25 years of my life. A girl from Eastern Europe, even though they laughed at me for listening Elvis, I never gave it up.
He is unique, each of his songs is a story that leaves an impression on you. When someone asks me what is my favorite song, there is simply none, I love Elvis, period.

That is so lovely to hear. My daughter (33yrs old) loves Elvis along with her husband & my grandson (12yrs old).
I agree with your vote for JUST PRETEND.
@@egaaronp thank you 😊
And your story is really lovely :)
Elvis had an album that was titled 50,000, 000 ELVIS FANS CAN'T BE WRONG , but that was a very conservative estimate of the number of Elvis fans that are out there....It's more like many hundreds of millions of fans worldwide. So, for anyone who laughs because someone Is a fan of Elvis , it just shows how ignorant they are.. It also shows what a lack of taste they have in music. Elvis has been , and will always be, a force to be reckoned with in music . He's imitated by many , has been a BIG influence on many, whether they want to admit it or not , and this guy single handidly changed music back in the 1950's Elvis did alone what it took 4 guys from England ( the Beatles ) to do in popularity later on . 45 years after his death and Elvis is STILL very much a big part of popular culture around the world ....Oh yeah, and Elvis has sold more than 1 billion records , yes, that's with a 'B' , far more than any other artist on the planet. So, laugh it up, hyenas , all you want...It's Elvis and his many fans that will always have the last laugh ...LONG LIVE THE KING OF ROCK AND ROLL, ELVIS PRESLEY !!!
I pity those people. My aunt is one of them. She (and anyone who says bad things about Elvis) are missing out on life. Elvis is music. He never encountered a genre he couldn't sing, he knew that music is a uniting force in the world, and that the best music should make people feel. It's no wonder or coincidence that he ended audiences just sitting there and then politely clapping when the song is done. It's also not a coincidence that Elvis is still popular or that youths of today are discovering him on their own which dispels all of the worries his OG fans had about Elvis dying out when they died out because the younger generation is not only finding him without help of an Elvis fan in the family but they're introducing him to the generation in between Elvis and social media/internet when his performances were hard to find and you had to be looking in the first place. However, the number of young people reclaiming the actual Elvis and celebrating the artist shows Elvis never left the building.
@@ronaldholmes8525 I couldn't agree more...your every word is more than a true. Thank you 🙂

There were so many layers to Elvis' performances that it's hard to believe that a human being could pull this off in one moment in time.

Aww you're reaction is wonderful
Elvis reaches the spirt and soul of those who take the time to listen to him.
You’re hearing why Elvis is the king. Nobody better !
Elvis was incredible doing arrangements for the band and backing vocals. I have all the rehearsals recordings
Arrangements were done by his pianist Glenn. D. Hardin.
@@TheElvisSpirit if you watch Thats The Way It Is and On Tour, you see Elvis fine tune arrangements where he wants instruments to come in, vocals to do certain lines and harmonies etc. It's epic watching him at work. I love the Thats The Way It Is rehearsals.
@@mattybond yes ,fine tuning the arrangements of Glen. He did so many..Good example..The Wonder of you. Elvis added to his arrangements...and worked it out more..But credit where credit is due . Glen arranged it, and sometimes also Joe Guercio did.
@@TheElvisSpirit you see him arranging Bridge Over Trouble Water telling when he want horns to come in and the inspirations to really push "see how they shine..." etc. He was the same in the studio. It's incredible listening to the out-takes with him stopping them and telling no do this....

“So what it boils down to was Elvis produced his own records. He came to the session, picked the songs, and if something in the arrangement was changed, he was the one to change it. Everything was worked out spontaneously. Nothing was really rehearsed. Many of the important decisions normally made previous to a recording session were made during the session. What it was a look to the future. Today everybody makes records this way. Back then Elvis was the only one. He was the forerunner of everything that’s record production these days. Consciously or unconsciously, everyone imitated him. People started doing what Elvis did.”
- Bones Howe, Recording Engineer, as quoted in Jerry Hopkins’ 1971 book, "Elvis, A Biography"
Live, his own arrangement (as you can see in the movie, that's the way it is"), no autotune, autodidact , just out of this world. I love most music from ac/dc to The Beatles, from opera to country , from the 50' to the 2020' , but I always go back to Elvis, he had something I cant find anywhere else !
Look at those beautiful eyes ,and that smile just melts my heart , then when he sings makes you feel it deep down in your heart and soul ,this man really knew how to conduct a performance
I never get tired of listening to Elvis singing. Especially in this time of his life. He sang this song with so much love. Relaxes and soothes the soul. Thank you Elvis. And great reaction.

@@ninaschofield Nina. It made me a bit emotional too. I was 18 years old when Elvis left the building in 1977. And it will be even more emotional when Elvis comes forward after being away as part of a team of amazing celebrities whose mission is to re-awaken the world after what we’ve been through. I can’t imagine Elvis Presley not working all of these years. I know this sounds crazy. Look up Pastor Bob Joyce on UA-cam. Legendary king
Yes,..You've chosen one of his great 'songs'. One of my favourites. Lovely!!❤❤. Really emotional!.
Elvis knew what he wanted from a song that's why he was so involved in arranging the music. He was a true musical genius with his greatest gift being his phenomenal voice. He takes what was a great song and makes it even better. My biggest disappointment is that I never got to see him in person. He was scheduled to perform in Hershey in the Spring of 1978, I would have been there with "bells on". I was fortunate enough to watch the Aloha special (that will be 50 years this week!) live though. I LOVE ELVIS!!!
deep melodic tone transitioning to high country style belts usually with a touch of rock and roll are the marks of elvis songs. There's talk about elvis having a karate background shotokan style prior to his epic singing career which explains his tendency to
execute hand blows , blocks and low and high kicks that serves as climactic endings to his performances. The king basically was a striker.
Watch how I sang the song "Bridge over troubled water": ua-cam.com/video/PZyb07p2D1g/v-deo.html
Kempo not Shotokan. Ed Parker was a close friend and they were inseparable up to Elvis' death and was a pallbearer at his funeral.
Your observations were great! Love learning more about Elvis and his perfect performances. He truly was a master at his trade. Born natural. Love his story. So much love in his heart. Amazing.
Not sure how many fans knew this, but Elvis-for all intents & purposes, produced all of his recording sessions at RCA. Strangely, a production credit was rarely if ever listed on his singles or LPS, but it was Elvis who was the driving force-even as a 21 yr. old.
Beautiful that gospel influence was always there just magnificent
I love how he starts out low and slow ad builds the power. Every time the piano "sings" I have to twiddle my fingers over an imaginary keyboard, LOL.
Next video? how about "Just pretend" from the same concert in 1970. Elvis has an incredible vocal "run' or riff at the end (if that's the correct term). An incredible example of vocal control.

For my entire life even though Elvis is maybe my favorite performer I never wanted to hear his version or anybody else's version of this song. Once I heard this performance by Elvis it's one of the best performances I've ever heard from anybody and it's crazy to say but it's even better than the Simon and Garfunkel version and they're the ones who wrote and performed the song originally. He gives it a gospel feel and it really gets in your bones because if you hear the song basically it's a way of saying to like a friend or a family member that I've got your back and the way he sings it you really feel it. I agree with you his version is extremely emotional.
Absolutely agree with you. The S&G version was my favourite until I heard Elvis sing this song! Wow! His cover is just phenomenal and beautiful. His voice range and control is incredible. I don't have enough words to explain the beauty of this performance...⚡🇿🇦
What I wanna see next, much more ELVIS.
Wonderful Elvis ❤
"Elvis soundscape" is a wonderful term. He surrounded himself with the best musicians he could find and seems to have known how to bring out the best in them. I heard one of those on stage with him say that Elvis didn't care who the spotlight was on, as long as they were doing a good job. The music was what mattered. Check out "Without Love" and "Love Me, Love the Life I live." And for a wonderful early ballad "First In Line."
I hope she reviews ...

A few words about Elvis Presley, Nightwish (Floor Jansen), Dimash, Angelina Jordan and another cool vocalists
Alan Dean Foster, the famous American fantasy and science fiction writer who applied his writing talent to such hits as Star Wars and Star Trek, maintains a music section on his blog.
"There are many good singers, fewer great singers, and a very small number who are unique singers. Diana is a natural dramatic contralto. This is the lowest range for a female singer. She is also polyphonic. Roughly, this means that when she sings she often sounds like more than one person singing at once. As you can imagine, the combination is extraordinary. So too is her full range.
Singers at age 14 can do things that astonish us. Witness the careers of Jordan and the Dutch prodigy Amira Willighagen. But even when included in this company there is something special about Diana. I love the performances of the two singers I just mentioned, but they are (perfectly) controlled and measured. Diana is more akin to a force of nature. One of the most common descriptions of her performances is “shamanistic.” Some of this has to do with the remarkable timbre of her voice, some with the sheer intensity of her performing. In this she is closer to Floor Jansen. With both women you can see as well as hear the intensity, the emotion, contained with both the lyrics and the music. A duet between the two would be something magical."
I would also like to draw your attention to this young vocalist Diana Ankudinova.
Alan Foster writes further::
"Her first two-minute performance on the show (all the initial performances are brief) is of a very dark version of Elvis Presley’s “Can’tHelp Falling in Love.” I’m not sure what you anticipate hearing, but I guarantee it won’t be anything like what you expect. The show’s production values are also outstanding.
Two things I noticed immediately when comparing this performance to Diana’s previous ones: first, her control shows the results of ayear’s worth of professional voice training, and second, as she matures her power is becoming fully unleashed. When someone says she blows you away, it carries a literal meaning. "

Nina I love so much watching you youngsters or young adults hearing this music for the first time cuz it reminds me of when I first heard it I'm in my '70s now and it's so reminiscent of how we all reacted back in the '60s and '70s towards Elvis and his dynamic skills and ability to sing and perform Can't thank you enough for this and really enjoyed your reaction and yet to watch a whole concert is truly a religious experience to use a term for Elvis never want any Grammys for rock and roll The only Grammys he won were for two gospel albums ironic isn't it He's called the king of rock and roll and everyone want a Grammy for rock and roll!

Unbelievable. He was a master. Handsome, gorgeous voice, command of the audience. Gone too soon
Arrangement is done by Elvis TBC pianist Glenn Hardin. Godlike performance is done by Elvis Presley Himselvis.,
If I can dream (white suit version) from 1968 - totally different voice than this. Or anything from the 68 special. His voice is very powerful and raw/raspy in that time period
Absolutely brilliant
The heartbreak hotel from that special. Godlike.
that voice of elvis is incredible, best voice ever, he washes and is the best singer
Every rock and pop star (and a lot of country stars too) from 1956 thru at least the 80s just wanted to be Elvis.
Great reaction video, Elvis is amazing. Plus, you are gorgeous😉
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ Great Wishes from Germany. Elvis was here in his Military Time...
Elvis doesn't sing or vocalise to the music the music reacts in harmony with that man Elvis voice as he directs all the musicians and backing vocals,EP was the master at getting the best out of such a tight backing band and backing vocals, all together its MAGIC
Brilliant just brilliant
Beautiful performance by Elvis - loved your reaction 💗💗
Elvis felt the music.. And moved to it... In fact he produced all his songs that way... And he loved the Operatic endings.. He studied & took all the good from performers he admired... Add that the his Amazing talent and Charisma.... And you get ELVIS...
Elvis presley is The Greatest of all time! THE KING 👑
You have class excellence explaining about the Greatest Mr.Elvis Presley !!!
Beautiful!!!
I had a T-shirt made years ago that said, I may be old but I got to see all the really cool bands! Well, I'm 72 now and back in 1971, being a long haired musician myself, I went to see Elvis in concert in Dallas, Texas and I was pretty close to the front, dead center and I especially remember Elvis performing this song and it was almost a spiritual experience, totally blew me away as did the whole concert and remember Elvis was 100% at the top of his game then! I'll never forget it, one of the best performances I ever witnessed, and I've see literally seen everybody from 1965 and up.
Very nice comment, nice to see that you hear the small details what makes this song so good.
