what makes the running away scene in the books so much funnier is that he wakes up at like 5am to run away with lucy, then he goes through every single emotion from being excited to absolute regret and realised that he could never survive in the wild. decided to kill her, destroys the evidence and comes back to the peacekeepers trying to think of excuses of why he’s been gone so long etc. turns out when he gets back, no one has even woken up yet. no one even noticed he had left because he’d only been gone a few hours.

In the book it’s much clearer that he doesn’t want to run but it’s his only option as he’s afraid that when they find the guns he’ll be arrested and executed. So when he finds the guns he suddenly realises that if he kills Lucy-gray and destroys the guns he can get what he truly wants which isn’t Lucy but power and a life in the capital.

One thing I love from the books is that the inner monologue shows us how Snow has always been narcissistic and dangerous. One quote from the end really shows who he has become:
“In a few years, there would be a vague memory that a girl had once sung in the arena. And then that would be forgotten, too. Good-bye, Lucy Gray, we hardly knew you.”
I think it's so chilling and it sums up his character so well! Suzanne Collins is a genius

That is actually why I like the movie better. Making Snow simply a narcisstic guy who was always meant to become a monster kinda takes his entire character development away. I like that the movie gave us more development than that

@@nazlipazli544 I actually think it was really important to show the way he actively went against every option he was given to make the "right" choices. I was very glad to see that Suzanne hadn't made him into yet another "sympathetic" villain by making him a good guy and shoving the responsibility for "turning him evil" on a love interest. Instead, she wrote a brilliant character study of the realistic way people end up doing horrible things - not out of grief or betrayal but out of pure disregard for other people's well-being and an inherent selfish disposition. She portrayed evil as a choice instead of a tragedy and I found it incredibly refreshing.

My biggest critique of this movie is that despite doing SUCH a good job of being faithful to the book they didn’t include ANY aspects of Cori’s inner monologue which is like 75% OF THE BOOK. and the fact that the ENTIRE point of the book is to show that snow was ALWAYS a piece of shit. He was like that before the war and it only got worse after the war his feelings of superiority and entitlement.
Literally just read the first chapter of the book and you’ll see how the vibes should’ve been much different when it comes to Corio in the movie

i still feel like the movie does his perspective pretty well. if it followed her story instead of his you would’ve known not to trust him way sooner. but this way it almost convinces you that he’s a good guy until the last 10 minutes of the film when he has a “drastic change” in attitude.

I don’t like that they’re trying to make people on his side to subvert the expectations because we KNOW how snow ends up. We know what he becomes and the movie makes it seem like it was this event that changed his character when he was always like this. He always hated the districts. He always saw them as subhuman.

I dont know, if you really got this, Snows cousin, Tigris, is the Cat like lady, Katniss meets in the capitol.
Tigiris was one of the star stylists in the games, for about 50-55 years. She left the games short time after the 64th games (the one Finnick won) Katniss remembers her (meaning) "I saw her in the early games it watched, but she wasnt cat like" Yes, that means, the Tigris in Mockingjay is 83 years old.
Also the book is much darker. You asked what happend to the Snows fortune. Snows father was the biggest armsdealer in Panam. Made all his money in District 13. However when 13 got nuked, the second armsdealer Plinth got all the wealth and Snow lost everything. Thats why he is pretending for all those years. The only one who knew was Highbottom. He kept it a secret, but became kind of the Snape to Snows Harry.
As fo Tigris, At one point Snow feels irritated about Lucys performance and says to Tigris that its a disgrace and he gets angry. Tigirs replies "During the dark days, everyone had to do stuff, they are not proud of." Snow sais "Well YOU didnt!" and Tigris looks at him "You were to young, to remember, how bad it really was. What im trying to say, dont judge someone who had to choose between death and disgrace." Its implying that during the opening scene. Tigirs had to ... well.. sell herself, to give the family food.
That would also explain why she left after Finnick won. Because in the books Haymitch says "Finnick, won his games at 14. The youngest ever. Because he was sou young, the capitol couldnt touch him for a couple years, but at 16...." So when Tigris learned what Snows was doig despite her backstory, she left.

The one storyline I really dislike being cut out of the film is the relationship between Ma Plinth (Sejanus's mom) and Snow. Ma becomes a second mother to Snow after he saves her son from the arena. She fed and cared for him because she knew he was the only one Sejanus relied on in the Capitol. So when Snow gets deployed to District 12, she took care of his grandmother for him. But then, he becomes the one responsible for her son's death. Ma, oblivious of Snow's role in her son's death, continued to act as a caretaker for his grandma and Mr. Plinth made Snow the heir to the family fortune. This relationship makes Snow's actions feel a lot more evil than how the movie portrays him imo. I feel like if I hadn't read the book, I wouldn't have felt as much sympathy for Sejanus because the movie portrayal of him seems stubborn and doesn't quite show the childlike naïvité of book Sejanus.

this! the book went so much into why sejanus felt like he was betraying district 2 by mentoring marcus, plus since it goes into snow's thought process for recording him (thinking he'd pay his way out again instead of actually being punished), it makes his death that much more heartbreaking

  • @jamielee7943

I know a lot of people think Snow has empathy at the beginning… but if you watch it again it’s mostly for himself. Everything he does is in service of his own needs, desires & wants. He just manipulated everyone else to get his own way.
In the book Snow doesn’t intend for Sejanus to die. He hopes by telling on him to Gaul that his family will use their influence to take him back to the Capitol. But instead he is considered a traitor & treated as such… not even his family’s money can save him for that betrayal. It’s why Snow cries when he goes through is thing. It wasn’t the outcome he planned.
I absolutely love the ambiguous ending with Lucy Gray. Her outcome is kinda irrelevant to know. If she is dead or alive… either way she will haunt Snow for the rest of his life.
Now we have some answers about why Snow hates District 12 so much & in particular why he takes an instant dislike to Katniss. She literally represents all he has fought to rise from… being the girl tribute from District 12, to singing the hanging tree song & being the Mockingjay herself… she brings up so much of his past, his secrets & his crimes.
It’s so interesting to see how Snow & his family are kind of the architect of the game. They are responsible for it. His father helped create it. And Snow kept it going all these years by adding to the spectacle, having the tributes paraded & bet on.
Honestly just brilliant writing & a makes for a fantastic film.

The entire book is from Coriolanus’ POV so a lot of things that seem like loose or under explained in the movie, are very well explained by his inner dialogue in the book. One big important thing the movie lacks, is his internal justifications for the things he does. In the movie, he sounds like he genuinely loves Lucy Gray in the start, when his inner dialogue is pretty much referring to her as a piece of his property from the beginning “my Lucy Gray” was a phrase he used once that gave me the ick. You also get to see the weeks after he sent the jabberyjay of Sejanus confessing, where he literally goes insane because he thinks he’s getting hanged with him. Theres plenty more the movie leaves out that I was fine with, but the lack of his intentions can really change peoples perspective on why he tried to kill Lucy.

Snow didn't actually shoot Lucy at the end, the snake he got bit by caused him to hallucinate which is why he was hearing her voice in the birds and "saw her". When he slipped up and talked about the 3 murders Lucy realised that he can't be trusted and that's why she went to pick katniss in order to escape from him. Throughout the whole movie Snow's motive was the money and the power which is why the switch up at the end was so sudden, once he realised Lucy was gone he remembered his priorities and went back to being power hungry and achieving his goal of becoming the president.

In the books snow isn't a good guy throughout it, but you know what he is thinking, he looks down on everyone and treats lucy like she's his pet, his property, he gets super jealous of her singing that song for her ex and doesn't care about any part of her life aside from once she became a part of his and he wants to keep her. He thought maybe he could convince them to let her stay in the capital, not even thinking she would never want to live there. When they went to the woods he was a total baby who didnt think he could actually make it on his own. He wanted to go back home.
He was also never really a friend to Sejanus who he felt robbed his family, snows family lost everything in the war and the plinths profited the most from that. He felt like they were not worthy of the fortune they had. Through all of it though he put on a front and got these people to like him and trust him. If they had the inner monologue going i think it could have really helped people see who he was throughout the story.
Him lying to lucy broke her trust and without trust there's nothing there for her, that's why she left I think.

A lot of people know that the book shows Snow's true colours sooner as his narrative depicts him as a conniving narcissist from the outset, and some see the fact that the movie doesn't have that as a weakness of its adaptation. I think it makes it even better; the fact so many people find Snow's character charming in the films illustrates how brilliant he was at manipulating people, such as stark contrast to what he really is. It's just like how he wears perfumed roses to hide the scent of his mouth sores caused by the poison he uses.

    So ready for this.
0:15 Starting with the title - it's probably my favourite in the whole franchise. Because if you know anything about this story, you would expect Snow to be the vicious snake and the poor girl from 12 be the brave songbird, especially after you learn that she sings. But it's far from truth, as both animals very much refer to both of them.
He is the vicious colourful songbird that will sing sweet lies to get everything he want. He is also the snake that has venom, as he commonly poisones multiple people. And he has used Jabberjays to save his own life.
On the other hand Lucy beside being a singer, she was also a snake-whisperer. And that animalistic more natural element all snakes have - fits her better, it works better for a District girl. Snake is a snake - it eats and attacks to survive, but it won't be dangerous until touched. It doesn't have a need to dress up like a bird.
For Lucy - it also kinda feels like analogy to Katniss. Lucy is kinda a snake girl - which the book title partly refers to. Which is very reminiscent of what Catching Fire and Mockingjay gave us. With Katniss burnt by Hunger Games and all that trauma was starting to catch fire to become that rebellious girl on fire and later on the face of rebellion - Mockingjay.
0:30 Oh this is funny, because this is just a small silly adder trying to not get devoured by the echo of mockingbirds.
9:30 This is also introduction of mentor system and it also potentially explains, what happens to districts without winners to mentor - they likely get someone from Capitol to "help" them. Mind you for all we know - Lucy Gray, Haymitch, Peeta and Katniss are the only District 12 winners. It actually makes me wish to see a fanfic, where Lucy comes back and full on at age 95 or whatever volunteers for Katniss at the reaping just to piss off Snow.
12:50 They are really good with sneaking references. This is the same bow Katniss made after she did her tribute evaluation presentation in front of sponsors in Catching Fire.
13:50 Mind you roses are fully eatable plants. And are delicacy in many places especially Central and Southern Europe and Western Asia. The decorative ones aren't as good, usually lacking the proper flavour, as they are bred to look and smell the best. But like wild rose or some of the variants made specifically for consumption are really great.
Rose-jam filled donuts are THE best donuts you can ever get. And in general rose jam/marmalade/jelly is like top-rank of those types of products. I strongly recommend trying it. It may feel weird (especially with how rose fragrance has been commonly used for parfums) - but after you get use to it, that rich parfumy flavour mixed with sweetness is something you go back to.
15:00 Fun fact - this movie like the previous movie has been filmed mostly in Poland and Germany. This is Britzer Garden in Berlin, but there is actually a real Zoo right next to Centennial Hall in Wroclaw, Poland - which is the building used for the Arena in this movie.
You can literally go see giraffes and then go on the other side of the street and watch a basketball game, opera, rock concert or art exhibition at the Centennial Hall. To be honest kinda a worth thing to do, if you ever visit the city, lol.
Other fun tidbit is that - Centennial Hall itself was made in 1911-1913 on 100th anniversary of one Prussian King calling upon the Prussian people to rise up against Napoleon's occupation.
Which messes with my brain so much, because - Napoleon had to occupate half of the Europe, for the dude to complain to his people, to then century later this event had to be celebrated by the creation of the hall, which later had to survive both wars and be kept up as proper place of culture to finally be even considered as the option as the arena for the Hunger Games. Like what?!
Also I did read the book first and I actually always pictured the arena to be Centennial Hall-like, as I live like 15 minutes away from it - and it totally freaked me out when they announced they will be filming Hunger Games there. But then again there is huge chance Collins did visit or at least checked some of the biggest European buildings as inspiration and she was just this good to explain the building.
It is one of the UNESCO buildings and one of few from this style and era, so it makes even more sense.
16:50 Another thing that I feel like Collins always knew, when writing the book is that Viola Davis would be playing Gaul. I fully was expecting her or similar actress to play this character. I mean even Volumnia and Viola are similar enough names to me and this was at peak of Viola Davis playing villainous women.
And with how the schedules for the next movie and book work - I definitely feel like she is gonna do such thing again.
18:50 Because she is very perceptive. It's something easy to miss in the movie, but in books we hear Snow monologue - he is fully starving there, they live on scraps and cabbage broth - Snow himself mostly surviving on the food school provides him at events. This is him giving away his only food. His family lost everything because of his father losing the grace after dying in the District, they slowly lost their fortune, selling their apartment piece by piece fo survive the famines raging through Capitol through and post war, remember that it's Districts that produce food for them. His Grandma did nothing and it's implied that Tigris sold her own body, because her work as seemstress wasn't paying enough to support them.
19:00 On the other hand - this is extremely inspiring, because Wovey in the books is just a simple girl who were hidden in the tunnels through majority of the games to then drink the water Lucy poisoned. She did not have the syndrome.
Sofia using her own life, in that way added a lot to the role and importance of her character. Making the games look even more messed-up. And it's good example where additional representation can add to the story.
23:20 Tiramisu for supper isn't good idea, unless you make it yourself on decaf. That's way too much coffee and sugar before the sleep.
23:40 Perfect place to host volleyball matches, listen to music and watch teens get devoured by rainbow snakes. Like this still feels unreal to see this as an arena.
56:55 I do recommend reading the book, because this is the part most hit by the movie duration. This whole thing was even more messed up, as Sejanus parents also were proper characters and there has been a lot more to this part, from Coryo's manipulations to his perceptive on the Districts.
1:10:00 They actually didn't notice. Snow was actually really freaking out about this as well. But they left super early and it was only few hours before he was back - no one noticing it.
1:10:35 Fun fact - next year 11th it was Mags games (the old lady from Finnick's district). She won because she could swim well - the whole arena was flooded, full of those sharks btw.
On the other note - she was first winner to go on tour. With Snow back in Capitol, he only have been improving the games to be marketable even more. Which obviously ultimately lead him to grow in power and get the President's seat (especially as we saw the previous President's heir dead, there was less opposition to it).
1:10:45 In books Coryo still had to do a lot of glazing to get that money - to show that he was Sejanus friend.

There are two national anthems of Panem, one from the films and one from the books.
“Horn of Plenty” is the anthem that is always played during the Games in the films.
The book version of Ballad is called “Gem of Panem”, which the grandma sings.
For some reason the film version of Ballad features both. There is a theory that Horn replaced Gem over the years

thank you guys for seeing how he did have a little bit of empathy in the beginning of the story! i hate when people in the comments say he was ALWAYS evil. he was just as influenced by his surroundings as everyone else!
yes, he was still leaning towards hatred more often than not, but he was just more concerned about his image than the bigger picture around him. i always say tigris was his guiding light as he looked up to her and would do things she suggested he should do, then the games happened and he was separated and he went downhill from there. even though sejanus slowly becomes a "friend" to him, he still doesn't really like him. so without someone like tires in his life he just kept choosing the bad options one after another. The feeling of power was more fulfilling to him over happiness, and a sense of love turned to hatred.

I absolutely love the banter between you guys 🤣 I've seen so many THG series vids, but I think you guys's reactions are one of my faves that I've come across. So thank you for the great reactions and insights :) Regarding how Snow seemed to abruptly changed at the end - I think this is one of the difficulties of converting a story from book to movie because it's hard to show the character's inner monologue - when I was reading the book, there were so many points where I was like “wtf do you hear yourself right now?” Like his worldview was just so… backwards and hypocritical sometimes, it’s crazy haha. But the descent into madness also happened gradually, and it just really gave you an impending sense of doom - like “oh no Snow, please don’t go down that path...” By the end, his character arc made total sense. And honestly, in regards to his feelings for Lucy Gray... I wouldn't say they were 100% fake, but he was possessive and def cared more about the benefits of her for sure. It was really evident in the book that he only tried to run away with her bc he was terrified the guns would turn up and upend his life, and he thought this was the only way out. In the shed, they both realized at the same time that she was the only loose end keeping him from ending this "fiasco" once and for all, and she ultimately decided not to stay around to find out if he was actually gonna kill her or not.
Also, there were a couple of things the movies did cut out that I wish they kept in, esp as they showed how certain external factors also pushed/aided his descent. For example - Dr. Gaul was even more cruel, ruthless, and unhinged in the book, and I do believe that Snow's growing fear of Dr. Gaul really had a substantial influence on his actions. Like with Clemensia and the snakes - it was more suspenseful and unsettling bc Dr. Gaul didn’t mention the consequences until it was too late, that even Snow was horrified that she was bitten. Then afterwards, he actually got to see the horrible aftermath (he visited Clemmie in the hospital) as well, and he also learned that Dr. Gaul continued to experiment on her… I feel like that was such a turning point where he realized just how insane she was. And the overall horror of it all probably cemented the idea that he needed to "land on top" to protect himself. As the story progressed, he definitely was finding it easier and easier to justify his bad actions that just kept piling up after he crossed the line, so much so that there was no way back anymore. But anyway, I still really liked the movie, it was shot beautifully and the actors all did amazing. And as you guys mentioned, I loved that it showed the origins of everything happening in Katniss’s time.

I adore the character of Lucy Gray Baird, the travelling musicians were such a lovely addition to the lore of Panem citizens. The book was a tough read (though I really enjoyed it, it's well written.) for me because whenever Snow had a thought about something that definitely happens later to Katniss or whatever, I'm like "You little shit, take that back". I am a fan of differing perspectives and overall, I think it's very consistently a great prequel showing how men like Snow can become what they are

1:04:19 I'm quite sure that in the book, he wasn’t crying. (Unless I forgot.) He was coming up with excuses, that he (Sejanus) was at fault for this. That it was his fault that he got into this mess. And that he HAD to do it, to save himself. I also hate when people blame Lucy for like "betraying" Coriolanus. But like he lied to her, when she asked who he had killed. And trust is everything to her. (Along with her thinking that the possibility, that he would kill her too if it benefits him.)

This one you DEFINITELY have to read the book for. I can't even begin to cover all the little things the movie changed that made Snow seem way better of a person than he actually was in the book. So many details where they made him do stuff in the movie that seemed kind or heroic, when in the book it was either someone else's idea entirely, or he was only doing it for selfish reasons.
Like even when his classmate got stabbed by the girl in the cage, and Snow runs over to help her. In the book he only went over to help because he knew there were cameras around and he would look like a jerk if he didn't do anything.
He also doesn't scout out the tunnels for him. She figures that out herself.

Yes, Lucy Gray actually wrote “the hanging tree”! The song is about the hanging of Arlo and how he screamed “Run, Lil, run!” But it’s also about Billy Taupe asking Lucy Gray to meet her at the hanging tree to run away with him the night before she wrote the song (this was left out in the movie). Since Lucy Gray disappeared she can’t be an ancestor of katniss but Maude Ivory, Lucy’s blonde little cousin might be. but it’s not known if from the fathers side or mothers side. The blonde hair of Katniss mum and prim would speak for her but I rather think that Maude ivory is an ancestor of their Father because he taught Katniss all the (later forbidden) songs and showed her the lake only the covey knew of

It's actually the book that is coming out in 2025, the movie is already in production though, and is supposed to come out in 2026.
Rachel Zegler, the actress portraying Lucy Grey does sing all the songs herself and has an absolutely phenomenal singing voice.
I love how you caught on to the possibility that Katniss might be related to Lucy in some way. In the book, Katniss' Father is actually heavily implied to be a descendant of the covey and he is the one who teaches Katniss the hanging tree song and the song she sings to Prim and Rue. Another little fun fact about Swamp potatoes is that the leaves are shaped like arrows and it's actually called Pfeilkraut (=Arrow Herb) in german.
I agree that Coriolanus' switch-up seemed a bit sudden in the movie because while they did foreshadow his hunger for power and his tendency for violence quite well, it is missing all the internal dialogue and thought process you get in the book.
In the book, Coriolanus is a lot more obviously self-interested and calculated than he is portrayed here, which was actually quite disturbing to read at times. For example in literally the first ten pages of the book, he mentions feeling disgusted by Tigris because she might have sold herself to keep them from starving. He also secretly loathes Sejanus almost throughout the entire book, because he thinks he is pathetic for caring about the tributes and an idiot for speaking out about it. He "befriends" him only because of his family's fortune.
I really liked the way he was given every chance to make the right choices and yet still decided to act in his own self-interest every time. Almost everyone he was close to was a genuine kind-hearted person trying to guide him to do the moral thing, but in his blind hunger for power and control, he betrayed all of them. (Tigris, Sejanus and Lucy Grey)
Tigris' last words to him in the movie are incredibly chilling, especially considering that the next time we hear about her is when she is actively encouraging Katniss and the rebels to kill him. I really wonder how much else must have happened between those points to make Tigris hate him so deeply, especially considering that she clearly loved him the same way Katniss loved Prim at the beginning of the movie/book.

I think Lucie gave Coriolanus the food, for the same reason she tried to connect with him in other ways (saying she's an orphan too, telling him to 'own it', apologising that he lost his 'friend', Arachne). Ultimately, it's for her own survival. She needs him on side if she stands a chance of surviving. Coriolanus is secretly starving too, because his family have lost their wealth, so he appreciates the food. To me, the moment she saves him during the rebel attack on the arena, feels like a sincere moment of genuine kindness, but it also conveniently makes him respect her more, even fall for her. Thus, giving her a greater chance of him doing everything he can to protect her. Plus she's smart, she knows that if she had tried to escape, they could have captured and shot her.
It's interesting that the shots of them both conversing through the zoo bars, are shot so you almost feel at times that both are behind bars. It seems to symbolise that Lucy is manipulating the situation just as much as Coriolanus is, that both are, as his Grand m'am says, using each other to survive. Lucy, for the purposes of surviving the televised Hunger Games, Coryo for the purposes of winning the plinth prize that could ensure the life of comfort and power he yearns, having been stuck in survival mode for most of his childhood and teen years.

I think this movie doesn't do such a good job conveying just how torn Coriolanus is between pursuing his ambition and having a life with Lucy Gray, in the book they make it very clear. He wants to be president of Panem, and at that point his best chance to do that is to become an officer in District 2 and social climb from there, but he ALSO wants to have Lucy Gray and doesn't yet understand that he can't have his cake and eat it too. He only commits 100% to running away with her because he thinks the guns will definitely be found and his other path will no longer be accessible to him, but when he finds them in the cabin and realizes he can get away with it he starts viewing Lucy Gray as a threat to what he truly wants. It's my favourite chapter of the book purely because through his POV you can see his descent into paranoia over the course of a mere 2ish pages and then it becomes a thriller novel.
I think having any narration would have been awkward so idk how they could have done it any better, but they really needed to communicate WHY he was running away. He wasn't going because she was going and he wanted to be with her above all else, he was going because he was afraid that at any moment the guns would be found and he'd be arrested, getting to be with Lucy Gray was just an added bonus but he had himself convinced it was what he wanted.

My least favorite part of this movie is how they adapted the scene with the homework in the snake terrarium. It made SO much more sense in the books.
In the books Dr. Gaul does NOT give them any explanation or warning that the snakes are venomous. Snow and Clem both sense that it's some kind of trick, but the impression given is that she's kind of testing their courage, that the snakes are harmless they just have to prove they're not intimidated. And the key part... SNOW goes first. He's hesitant, but doesn't want to show it, and he reaches in and the snakes don't touch him (because as explained, his scent is on the paper already). So only having SEEN that, Clem reaches in. As she's grabbing the paper, only THEN does Gaul explain the scent thing, and that's when Clem gets bit. So she's not a fool, it was a trap set especially to catch her credit-stealing.
No idea why they changed that, as it doesn't really add anything, and it makes much less sense as is. It was also a nice moment in the books because Snow demonstrates a bit of nerve by reaching into the snakes without fully understanding that he's safe doing it. He's very calculating throughout, but it's nice character building to see his calculating nature working in relatively benign ways when he's young... (meaning HE's not trying to get anything over on Clem or anyone else, he's just trying to prove himself).

I don't think its confirmed by Susan Collins, someone please correct me if I am wrong, but fans largely believe that Katniss's father is decent of the other Covey. In the original books Katniss talks about learning songs from her father, including Hanging Tree, that would have been introduced to 12 when the district boarders were solidified and the covey was forced to stay in 12. He also takes Katniss to a lake with a house nearby when she is growing up, it is most likely the lake we see in this film.
But beyond all of that, imagine being Snow. You walk up on the girl you like writing a song about an experience in 12 that you witnessed as a peacekeeper only for it to show up 70 years later as a propaganda song from a girl you despise from 12. I would be foaming at the mouth angry.

My theory is that maybe Lucy is Katniss grandmother or great grandmother, in the Hunger Games books its said that Katniss gets her singing talent from her dad. He teaches her all these songs she knows. So maybe her dads mom was Lucy? Idk, just conjecture but that would be so dope.

@@jessielallier more likely it was her cousin maude ivory who also sang and was singing while Mayfair was killed . She remembered every song she ever heard lucy said and she would have sang to her children, I think that that's how they are related.

In a rare moment of Coriolanus Defense- Coryo clearly said to Sejanus when he made the Jabberjay recording that Coryo wasn’t like him in that he didn’t have a rich Dad to buy him out of trouble like Mr. Plinth has so many times before for Sejanus. I truly believe Coryo thought that Sejanus would be fine bc his father would pay to get him out of trouble as he had every single time before when Sejanus committed acts that would’ve gotten anyone else killed.

22:36 “I mean she was told, what did she expect?” Yes, and that is a big problem I have with this scene. It may seem nitpicky but in the books Gaul tells her about the snakes only trusting scents they recognise AFTER the girl has already put her hand in the box. To me that is a lot more thrilling and highlights how messed up Gaul is.
The movie also removed A LOT of body horror stuff with this too (which tbf I get cause of budget, age ratings, timing, etc). Like after that scene Snow stumbles into an area filled with human experiments combined with animals where they’re all screaming out in pain. Then even later on, when he’s in hospital after the arena collapsed, he’s visited by the girl who gets bitten who is ranting crazily and shows Snow that she’s covered in scales now from the bite.

1:04:23 “what did you think they were going to do?” Well, in the book, there’s a couple things he thought, 1. That they wouldn’t check the birds to hear the recording, 2. That if they did Sejanus’ dad would buy his way out of punishment (to the point that Snow even sent a letter to his parents after he found out about his execution to try and save him). He was kind of in denial that Sejanus would be killed because of his actions.
While I personally do think there is some care he holds for Sejanus in his response to his execution, it’s also because he was worried Sejanus would snitch or that he would be penalised for having been his friend/they’d assume he worked with him cause of his close they were.

Yeah one of the things the wasn't portray well from book to movie, was that Snow doesn't want to go with Lucy Grey to the unknown. Snow was going to take the post in 2, was leaving to work at getting back to the capitol because to him that where he belongs. But when he shot the mayors daughter, and the rebel was caught, and he didn't know were the guns where, Snow figured it would be a matter of time before it all lead to him and he would be hung, so he had to go. So when Snow found the guns, he realized he could get rid of them and still have a shot at getting back to the capitol, also by this time Lucy Grey was freaked out by him and i think came to realized she didn't know him at all and she had to get away, Snow freaked because she run and she was the last loose end, in his mind she was standing in the way of getting back to capitol.
