    Really cool shade item! I can't wait to see final look of the entrance once you've stained! It will be so cool with the crystals too ⚾️

    I think once it's cleaned up and you have plants growing you won't notice the things that are bugging you. Can't wait to see your shade garden come alive! So exciting.

    Great job Amanda! I like the shade sail. I think it is going to bring shade to the area. Once you get all your plants out there I think you are going to love it.

    Thats a challenging problem but i think youve solved it for now. As the season goes on, you'll get more ideas for adjustments. I always look to see how the garden centers solve their shade situations. Its still going to be a beautiful space!

    Good morning. I think that your hydrangea needs some removing of the old growth from last season. For me and this is just me, if I was collecting things for my gardens and yard I would not put them or just move them from one spot to another especially if it is in an area that I am making into a specific garden. It would only make it become a dumping area and then my specific garden then becomes abandoned. Thus losing all interest in the great scheme of things. When pruning hydrangeas you need to cut the branch down to the strongest buds, Cut off the wispy thin branches and any branch that is crossing over other branches. You need to make sure that there is no dead, diseased or broken branches as well.

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi there! These hydrangeas blooms off of old wood … if I prune them now, they will not have any blooms this year. But I do use that technique you described on my limelight hydrangeas as they bloom on new wood.

    Never thought about making s shade garden. Om in zone 8b Florida with no shade. I'm going to look into this.
    Make sure you pull tight n have a place for the rain to run off the cloth.

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  6 місяців тому

      Thanks! The cloth is permeable so the rain passes right through it.

    Hi Amanda. What about making the poles shorter, adding at least two more sets in the middle and attaching hoops to the poles to make more of a tunnel affect? I know what it is like when you are trying to achieve something and it does not work out. I have all the confidence in you solving the problem

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  6 місяців тому

      I definitely think additional poles would help a bunch.

    Yes the zip tie! or you could gather and secure with binder clips to tighten it up. You could hang some fringe or beads from the edges. It looks great to me .

    I live in St Louis and I also use a large shade sail over my patio. If you get a lot of wind you want to make it as tight as possible. I have found that I need to use a smaller size than the size of the actual patio. Then you can straighten it with the ropes.

    I have a shade sail that I purchased from Amazon that I use to cover part of my pool and it does sag a bit but it provides shade and the water underneath it the sail is much cooler 🤷‍♀️ and it does let the rain through 👍

    Your shade plants and yourself are going to love the sun ☀️ protection. On Amazon they sell them by (w x l) in one continuous piece. From experience a darker color really makes a difference. I’d recommend slanting, so it’s slightly lower on fence side away from the house so rain ☔️ runs down easier. Even though they are permeable a heavy rain will pool and buckle your structure with the weight. Maybe slightly heavier duty wood attached to your street side fence.

    I’m probably over simplifying it but could you not just plant some vines on trellises (cattle panel is pretty affordable) to cast some natural shade over everything else. Or put a narrow columnar tree with a nice canopy that’ll naturally add shade in a couple of years?

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  6 місяців тому

      I definitely think those are good ideas … they are just too permanent for me right now. This garden is so new that I want to see how it doesn’t before I create too many permanent structure.

    What kind of mulch do you use? Where do you purchase it? Also, if you know, can the same mulch be used around the tomatoes and peppers? I have a large flower garden area -all containers and a smaller edible garden- raised planters.

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  6 місяців тому +2

      The mulch is a cypress mulch … its natural color and does not contain any dyes.

    I think the light color will start to disappear once you're out there every day.
    I remember you put shade cloth over your raised beds one summer. Is that a useful product for over the shade garden? How intrusive is that to look at each day?
    Funny, you want shade and I want sun.😁

      I did put those shade cloths over the raised beds a few years ago … it was very stretchy and stretched more the hotter it got. But it’s a thought for the shade garden 🤔

    Aesthetically it might look better if it were that medium dark green color. I think it’s mostly the color that doesn’t feel like a green space.

      I’m thinking darker might better too … I want it to feel more secretive and to me that means darker.
