Love Eryngium! I also reuse nursery pots but while I'm planting I always notice the old price stickers and think, "good grief! I spend a lot on plants while telling myself that I'm saving money by seed starting " bwaaaa! Garden math....it works.😅
Love the new plants, they are going to be beautiful! The green house came in just in time. You are filling it up. I am so excited for you. Love the bare feet, really makes me jealous of your weather. Enjoy!
Can't wait to see all those calla lilies in bloom. I love them in floral arrangements and if all yours bloom, we hope to see them in some of your arrangements. My amaryllis already have buds on them and it's only February!!! I'm going to find some of that Eryngium and plant it in my catus flowerbed. The blue color is stunning. I have several coneflowers and they are definitely sun lovers and indestructible. I dig them up and move them around and they have survived several years. Love the apron you're wearing in the video. I usually look like a homeless person while doing my gardening, but then, I'm not in front of a camera, I hope. 😊
Hi Amanda. I have been able to root some cuttings of Coleus in water and transfer them both into pots of soil successfully. Yea! two new plants. I will be soaking and planting my Echinacea today, some of my darker pink ones have been blooming all winter! P.S. love the touch of make-up!!
I collected coneflower seeds from the different plants I have and in order to be sure they would bloom when I spread them in an area that needed color, I sprouted some in a paper towel in the fridge (although they didn't actually sprout until I put them under light) at the end of November. I have 10 healthy and 2 struggling plants. I have no idea what color they're going to be, they could all turn out to be purple🫤. I just potted some strawberry plants. I'm determined to grow strawberries!! I bought a green stalk last year, so I'm hoping that ends up being a good location and I'll transplant them in a couple of weeks. Bareroots are tricky but great if you can get them to grow and so cost effective. Good luck with yours!
The calla lilies from your parents garden are striking. Tried cone flower, but they rotted. I will try again. Need to try eryngium. Looking fabulous Amanda!
This was timely. I planted up some Eryngium from Walmart last night. After seeing you do it, i realize i did it wrong so will be repotting them tonight. Thanks for these videos. It really helps to see how others handle these bare root plants.
I have started eryngium from bare root. It took a bit to get going - even in the full sun. Def worth checking that its neighboring plants don't shade it before it catches its stride. After that it's a machine. One of my faves.
❤ love love the calla lilies.. I wish i was your neighbor haha I would scoop them up.. you have some great finds.. I also have some stuff I got at walmart and Sam's . I got a couple of the pink hydrangeas wow am I excited.. and lots of lilies and day lilies.. I want to try the blue flower too.. i tried before and failed! 😂 .. my husband is putting my new greenhouse up and yes I know it is gonna be crazy hot.. but I have it where it is in mostly shade until afternoon so i am hoping it will be great. Also planted some of my mini roses. And it is just awesome knowing spring and hummingbirds are right about here yay (n tx). I get so excited watching your videos it gives me lots of ideas and motivation to try new things..thank you Amanda ...happy blooming 🎉
Thank you so much for another great video. I love the video and all these plants you’re gonna be putting in. Thank you so much my dear friend for sharing.
I love the bare root method in containers. I did that last year too. It really helps with pets - they don't see a teensy tinsy little sprout as a plant to walk around, but they will walk around a container. I also found that if I'm planning on putting the plant in-between others, putting directly in the ground can mean the bare root won't get any sun until it gets bigger, which can be a problem. Using a container allowed me to baby the plant until it was big & strong enough for the landscape.
So exciting seeing all the bare roots being started, I’m going the same route because it’s so cost effective; I’ve started a lot from seed too I started my from seed last summer and they all over wintered great, I started a lot of echinacea and delphinium this winter. The New green echinacea from Bakers creek Alan’s pride did so well I stratified the seeds in the fridge for about two weeks in some moistened paper towel and plant them inside and they all sprouted in about 3 days. The PARADISO SUPER-DUPER variety is doing really well too, I’m about to pot them up to gallons, they are are growing like weeds, all the bakers creek varieties started quickly.
Great information as always. The Coleus look beautiful. Also thank you for putting the information on the screen when you are talking about the plants.
I started Callas a couple of years ago. Last fall I just left them in their pots to dry out and over winter. They are starting to come up. I think I'll just over winter them in their pots from now on.
I have never grown calla lilies before. Now I know how to plant them. I do grow eryngium and coneflowers. They like it dry and both reseed for me. Bonny
Im trying not to buy too many plants this season. So ill live vicariously through you, by watching your channel to see how everything grows. Ill be buying annuals.
I potted up two of the Sea Holly eryngium from Walmart as well. They have several leaves already. This is the first time planting these. Haven't quite decided which one of my garden beds they will go in.
I had friends over to help start seeds yesterday and we used your dry mix method with the small trays. We were joking we could start a channel but call it "She's a Bad Gardener" 😂
Just found eryngium at Walmart lol! There’s a guy overseas who has a video about dividing it by root cuttings 😮. I had two skinny roots with eyes so I planted them too for a total of 5
Have started eryngium from seed using winter sowing in Philly PA z7. I think it was going well until I left the lid on too long and some of them rotted from being too wet. But I got a few and they seed themselves politely in the landscape.
❤ I would love to plant some Calla lilies. I went to Costco to find and they were all out in Plano& Allen… if you end up with an over abundance, I’m located in Princeton right by Homegrown plants~ thanks in advance for all your doing for us😊
I wish I had potted up my Callas. I went ahead and planted them in my yard, I’m in Houston so I should be fine. I hadn’t thought about starting them inside, seems like it would make placement in the landscape easier.
I bought several varieties of bare root plants from Walmart and Home Depot and for the most part was disappointed in them. Most were really dry, or really wet and slimy or only on plant in a bag instead of 2 as marked. The irises were all really dry! I soaked them but not sure they are going to live. The coneflower roots and stems were really dry. I may dig those up and soak them like you did but not holding out much hope. Most of these seemed like maybe leftovers from last year because of the condition of the plants overall. If I buy more, I would definitely open them in the parking lot so they would be easier to return. With the green bags, you can’t see what you are getting until you open them. Plants are too high now to just trash them. Yours looked much better!
Always great content. So thank you for that. Bought some lilies at Costco. I am a zone 4a. Should I start them inside? And if so, when? Thanks again. Have a super day.
I don’t wash them at all … I know that’s not the proper practice but these are stored for so long in a hot garage that anything think living in there gets cooked.
I have tried to plant seeds for the coneflower but have not had any. The seeds have not come up. Do you want have any suggestions. I did the bare root last year and then got sick, open heart surgery, so there went my flowers.

The apron has worked well for my microphone but I don’t think I could wear it outside and feel comfortable … I’ll have to figure something else out.
You have so much started can’t wait to see your super bloom!
Me too!!
🎉🎉Let the spring planting season begin!!😊
Yay!
I’m really interested in growing calla lilies. Can’t wait to see how you proceed. ❤
Coming soon!

Sounds like a perfect look to me!

You can do it!
I love cone flower and bees balm
I’ve had trouble growing bee balm … I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.
@@shesamadgardener I just threw seeds out. They love it HOT! Full Sun!
I did that eryngium last year. Grew but not a whole lot. This year it is already looking much better. Hoping it flowers for me this year.
Hope it takes off for you this year!
Such a fun and exciting time of year! Just finished false spring here in oregon. Getting so close to REAL spring.
Same! Can’t wait for real spring!
Yayyy. Plants from South Africa. I have them all

FYI. I got a beautiful Hellebore for $10.99 at Trader Joe’s today and a beautiful Calla Lily 8.99.

May I ask how are the Eryngium doing? Do they grow well or any flowers? Thank you!
They did great this year! They did not flower but they are about 12” x 12” this fall and should flower for the first time next year.

Hi Amanda! This is a silly question, but do you wash the pots before you reuse them? Or just rinse them?
I don’t wash them at all … I know that’s not the proper practice but these are stored for so long in a hot garage that anything think living in there gets cooked.
I bought euryngium seeds this year but have been on the fence about them.
I’ve never been able to get them to germinate.
I have tried to plant seeds for the coneflower but have not had any. The seeds have not come up. Do you want have any suggestions. I did the bare root last year and then got sick, open heart surgery, so there went my flowers.
Typically with coneflower, cold stratification helps with the germination rate.
I didn't know the cone flower come in bulbs
Yep, bare root!
I tried to grow calla lilies before. I only got leaves. They never bloomed. Do they need to be so old before they bloom?
I would think the rhizomes need to be a few years old to produce bloom. Could they have been planted too deep?
@@shesamadgardener I don't think so. I got them from Walmart just like you did. Fallowed the instructions on the bag.
Lost my calla lilies last year, planted them too early 😩
Oh no!
