Dude you have no idea how long I've been trying to set the timing on my fiero, (over 2 years, theres even a comment from me on this video from 2 years ago) I could never get it to work properly... Followed all the steps.... and No one has ever mentioned anything on the FB group, nor have I ever seen it anywhere in all the tutorials I read or watched. I saw your comment last night.... and Im like no freakin way thats why it wasn't working..... I just tried it... and the timing is perfect now, even the slight ticking noise (Exhaust leak) I had went away. I sincerely want to say thank you so much!!!
Can you help solve this i did all the procedures for timing i got the timing light at 10 degrees Ok but when i remove the jumper wire the idle goes up again !! What should i look for now Do i shut off the car first and then remove the wire ?
Great. Now I know what I did wrong. I did know that after that you will have to retrain the computer systems for idal speeds. At least on my 86 Pontiac 6000 STE. Haynes book is about half good on some procedures. My 82 to 85 manual seams lacking.
When I met my wife in 92 she had a 6000 STE . Fast forward to 2017 when I bought an 86 Fiero GT. I went to change my tires and was frustrated because there was a security lug on each wheel. I started looking through my tool box for anything that might work and there was the security lug socket from my wife’s 6000 STE . A perfect fit! 👍
Good morning. Any possibilities you know of a resources for Kick down cables. NAPA only has 49-52in stock at GM is nonexistent verified. Maybe someone has a hack project. Bike cable????

What about cylinder 4? Aren't you suppose to do cylinder 4 as well? For example if cylinder 1 is at 8 degrees and cylinder 4 is at 12 degrees, then 8+12 Is 20, 20 divided by 2 is 10 degrees BTDC. Isn't that how you're suppose to do it?
Ow, my brain hurts. Lol I was doing a quick base timing. You can go the extra mile but if you are doing it for the first time this is a good place to start. Thanks for adding to the discussion. I appreciate any feedback. 👍
Hi I have a none running fiero 86 and I have no spark I was thinking of changing the distributor since all the rest (ignitionwise) has been changed and I wanted to know if the timing is too off can it still start or no?
If you have no spark, timing is probably not the problem. I’m guessing you changed the ignition control module. Also check your pickup coil for cracked wires. What you said is true though, if your timing is too far off the car will not start.
@@wingedhorsegarage473 yes so I did change the ignition control module and the ignition coil and I also tested the pick up coil and from my tests there is still resistance maybe I tested it wrong tho but since I own the car it never started how can I know the timing is not too off ? Its been 2 months im trying to figure this out 😭😭
@@arkamis6373 there are many videos on UA-cam that will help you find Top Dead Center. Unfortunately, none that are Fiero specific . I’ll look one up for you.
If it’s an automatic you are suppose to set 10 degrees while vehicle is in drive
Thanks for the tip.

I always say, “Fix it until it breaks! “. Lol
Seriously, thanks for watching!

It sounds like it may be your IAC . It may be trying to adjust your fuel mix.
Also check for vacuum leaks.
I did this and after 2 drives it started to stall when idling

Any idea why I'm not seeing the timing mark after I jump the ALDL? I can see it before and idles around number 6
Curious, did you replace the distributor? It may be 180* off.
@@wingedhorsegarage473 yes I did

Timing........is........everything........!!!!!

Hi , one question, if engine has to be hot or hot? Thanks
Yes, engine has to be warmed up to set the timing.

I re-read your comment. A new distributor will have a new pickup coil so that is a good idea. 👍

Any idea why my exhaust is glowing red hot? Idle is smooth.
Usually that means it’s running rich. When did you notice it glowing?
I can tell you why mine got red hot, it was a bad catalytic converter. I had it happen on a Fiero and a month later on an 82 Corvette.
Is this the same as a 1996 Firebird 2.8L?
The two engines are not the same. Several small differences. Block casting, valve size etc. Close but not the same.
