  • My take on the task of replacing both inner and outer dew wipes as a step-by-step process. I don't show how the door skins are removed as it's not to difficult to figure out. Before replacing the outer dew wipe I would strongly recommend purchasing a custom phillips screw driver from Rodney Dickman. You will not be able to complete this task without it. Here is a link to the tool.

+Stan Skaggs Thank you Stan! I appreciate the positive feedback. I am happy to share my Fiero knowledge with anyone willing to keep their Fiero's alive. I would love to see more Fiero videos on UA-cam and I encourage you to share your experience with others. I'd love for the Fiero to one day have the larges automotive video "how-to" service on UA-cam. There are still some things I can learn as well and I'd love to see what other people do to their Fiero's. I regularly search UA-cam for Fiero videos. Right now I'm working on a series of 3800 install videos and since it's my first install it's slow going with questions of my own. Look for those to come in early 2016.

@@LostNotForgotton Seven years later and still being used as a reference. I've got two left hands but about to tackle this and thankful for the video. Even the tip about magnetizing the screwdriver was new to me. Everyone seems to have their own way of doing the dew wipes and being able to see it done successfully gives me all the confidence that one way or another I'll get through it. Thanks again 👍🏻

There is a way to remove those last two without the special tool. Remove the glass up stops and roll the window up. Then pull the glass up and back. The glass will have a curve that will clear the openings and give enough area to remove them. I found that information on fieronews.com but that sight is no longer available. The trick is getting the rear roller lined up. The roller is on a swivel and can tilt out of alignment - just use something to push it back into alignment when you pull the glass back into place.

Thanks for making this informative video, I have to do this job soon. My tip is on your next video, use a second video light directly across from the other to open up those dark shadows the single light creates, this will be better for the video and for you to see better. Thanks again!

I find it easier to just remove the glass . it comes out pretty easy and just requires a few rivets to reinstall.

To magnetize the screwdrive, run the magnet down the shaft of the driver, in the same direction, about 15 times. Make sure not to run it the opposite way though!

Damn those last two screws! I need to replace my dew wipes badly. They have managed to scratch my driver and passenger windows.

+Jake Evan Yeah I tried to figure out a way to get them out without having to buy Rodney Dickman's special screwdriver but it was not working out. I ended up buying it and it did make life so much easier. My window glass is scratched too. I probably shouldn't have waited so long.

TIP: before installing the new dew wipes... better clean the bottom sections of your glass. I did not know this and cleaned only the top accessible top part... after installation, I ran the windows up and down and dirt and grim from bottom part of window got embedded in the 2 fiber cover pads on the outer dew wipes and SCRATHCHED the crap out of my glass! ___BEWARE ! Best to let you auto glass installer to do this job!!!

Have you done aligning the window Assembly? Mine roll down and up super slow and sound like they are struggling.. Could be binding or not aligned correctly??

I have run into that issue as well at times. While rolling the windows up and looking at the new felt guides it looked like they were pressing to hard against the windows so I rolled down the windows and took a flat head screwdriver and slightly pushed the felt guides back a little. That seemed to do the trick and the windows roll up and down just fine now. Of course you could also have weak motors, a bad connection in the window switch or other issues that might need diagnosing.

+Stan Skaggs check your switches on the console. The power to the window motors passes directly through the switches which when corroded on the contacts, will make the connection to the motors slow like you are describing. This is a common flaw in the Fiero design. You can research several people's changes and modifications to the switch apparatus on the pennocks fiero site as well for research on the topic as well. This is an excellent video of changing the wipes so thank you so much for the video here!! It is always much easier to do a task like this when you can see it beforehand..
