Great video idea, well-shot and executed as usual boys. I say a re-do/update is in order with a properly tuned drone compensating for the weight offset, and a bottom mounted battery. I think it would take the immersion and feel to the next level!
crazy idea. mak a kamera in the front to where u can switch for proper fpv and 3pv in tight spaces or after a crash to check if everithing is fine or something
That’s hilarious because that is how I set up my Tiny Trainer and Runcam Thumb. Sometimes I set the camera angle like that for videos. I’m glad to see I am not the only one thinking like this.
We need to see you try some toroidal props! Im new to FPV drones trying simulators and getting the hang of it. Seeing these creative ideas give me hope for a new hoppy to last a while!
They kind of look like dragonflies with those tails! For watching on video I still like the 360-cam-on-a-stick 3rd person view more. But you don't see that while flying. Crashes look pretty crazy when you can see the drone flipping around.
I got into drones because I felt like I was in the drivers seat of a Star Wars speeder, but the learning curve on trying to develop the spatial awareness needed to fly decent was steep. I feel like this would have offered me the ability to grow faster and with more confidence. The question then is, could you, or would you be able to make the swap to FPV from TPV without the ridiculous curve.
Did you use a simulator? I cant imagine starting without one. I got a sim cus i really wanted to fly fpv and there was many hours of failed acro that almost made me give up, if i tried to learn on a real quad im sure i would have crashed instantly and given up. However after 50 hours in the sim when i flew my first real quad it was smooth sailing.
@@andrewut7ya511 yeah same here. I put about 32 hours in on liftoff before i ever flew my drone i bought and after getting super comfortable with whipping it around on the sim i picked up the real deal and it felt amazing. Couldnt imagine how many part si would have broke just sending it without the sim because the early hours of the sim itself was wreck fest until i got throttle control down.
Very intriguing, well done guys! I think another thing that may help new pilots is how easy it was to spot when you were flying skewed, it may assist people to actually fly straight when learning.
I have that in mine. just a super light carbon arm in the back with a micro camera looing down onto the drone. its insane for landing, while the fpv cam is far better for flying.
Idea! Tower of props. On each motor that use the 4 hole prop mount, stack props like this. Prop on motor, use 4 stand offs with studs on one end, then another prop, then the same, as many as you want to stack! 4 towers of props on one quad!
Super dead-cat 8 inch rear arms with the usual 5 inch props....I've been away from watching fro a while guys and I rally love how things are coming along. This editing is superb. Funny and intriguing and just all round great times.
Probably done as a joke, however I'd super buy a drone like this to be honest. I can see quite a few situations where it'd absolutely be a benefit and esp for trying to get better, there's some advantages there as well. Great video guys, another great idea LetsFlyRC!
Three things, extend the frame move the heavy parts to the CG, move the video transmitter the the CG, and 3d print a mount for the camera. Plus battery under.
I think more people will be adopting this. Not just beginners but seasoned pilots. Just to get the different perspective. What I would want to see is a capture camera in the front for content creation but fly third person when flying through tight spaces like when Drew was going through the scraggle.
With how well it was helping you guys move in the tree branches it might be better suited for search and rescue or construction drones that need to fit in tighter spaces.
Nice idea! But you know what would be cooler? If you had a switch that switches between FPV (first person view) and TPV (third person view). It would be a banger while flying thru a tree and when you're done, you just flip a switch and go back to FPV. Now I don't know where you could fit another air unit... But with the power - I think it's easy, just assign the switch to real pit and that's it. BUT I have no idea how would you have to cameras to one fc...
I can't wait to see the builds everyone brings to Rampage!!! Bubby going all in on this 3rd person view drone!!! I'm glad you guys brought him on as a pilot, him and drib got a great vibe together lol
I think this is just what the youtube community needs to push the awe inspiring nature of fpv freestyle out beyond the only fpvers audience. Been trying to do this with whoop for a while and just ducts in view helps non flyers feel like it is cooler. The whole drone is even better....
@@natasunknow240 😂😂 if you're not willing to do the research to answer these questions on your own... yeah fpv ain't for you. Some fpv quads can fly 20 minutes. Most freestyle 5" builds go for 4-5 minutes. Personally I prefer 3 and a half minutes full send. That's long enough for a pack. But I do bring 10-15 packs with me.
Okay now we need to see all the crash compilations! 🤣😂. Excellent video, Shawn you make FPV even more fun with all your inventions! 😁 You guys are all so much fun! Thanks for another amazing episode. 😁🤙😉
Elongate battery packs shrinking their height, have them come with a skid plate installed, bottom mount them, then this becomes super practical. The ability to navigate through tight spaces using just perspective could be huge for things like cave exploration, and forest search and rescue. You could even embolden your goggles interface with depth mapping using machine learning and VSLAM technologies. I think you guys just proved something awesome. Next do it with a 4D headless system that can do head tracking.
great idea.. Battery in the way. as much as I love a toilet tank... a long low fat battery would of looked more "Fighter Jet" but... Now I want one... think dead cat would be cool... why is the airunit way back there? cable length?
Yeah. Lots of things could have been done better with more time and funding. It has to be worthwhile, though. I needed a proof of concept, first, and that is what my projects are all about. :)
I have a RatKwad, and the camera is positioned between the rear motors. So you can't see the rear propellers, but you can see everything in from of that. I have a hard time flying it because I'm usually laughing too hard.
I think this would be really beneficial for teaching beginners new tricks, they can see what the drone is actually doing and when to cut/add more throttle.
Being a car person, who picked up RC car and then into drones. This is the equivalent of swtiching between FWD, AWD, and a RWD's car perspective with the camera placement on the drone. Also my take away on the weight balance is to add the go pro up front like normal, you get the shots you want while having the benefits of 3rd person flying with fpv cam in the rear.. ehh?
Flynoceros already made a kick arse one similar called the Ratkwad. Still wish they'd get back in business because they made the best and coolest frames. 😥
If you moved the battery forward you wouldn't have to add a counterweight for the offset camera. It would however add to the pitching moment (slowing pitch movements).
As you change your opinion on the point of view it still looks good how about using a lighter camera setup you vets might not be comfortable with but the newbies will find it to be second nature or even another aspect view, I look forward to trying it out as a new pilot.
When you mount something new on a remotely piloted vehicle (or your Cessna for that matter)you move the battery to restore balance, learned that my first day, thought everybody did.
If you have a fpv cam, a 3rd person cam and a belly cam for perching that you could toggle through would be sick. Also an electromagnetic landing coil on the belly for landing on a car roof would be a sick mod. One it lands the battery locks on and you could reach out your car window and disengage it from the roof with a button. 😊
3rd person will need a slight angle and at least one more camera for depth to work well. Hmmm, also 3rd person cameras (in gaming at least) are not static, the variations in camera position allows for better situational awareness.
Makes me wish I hadn't broken my old X Fighter frame from TomoQuads. It had a top rear mounted camera cage for a really cool semi third person perspective.
Would be nice if there was camera switching so you have one camera in the front and one at the back. Also if possible the one at the back with a longer cable so the air unit can be put back into the frame properly to balance it.

Somewhat balancing it. You could then put the camera up higher back further. You could get or build a frame with the space behind the front camera for one unit than one in the back for spectators. If you have no front camera still would have put the o2 on top giving the 25mm to go back and up. To protect the camera I would have done it differently but a ton to type. It would be lightweight and done before on other electronics. A carbon fiber rod out the back and up or make one. Wiring the camera yourself with longer wires is a Pain but would help.
In the V2 you guys should put the battery under mounted a little bit to the front so it creates a bit more weight in the front and doesnt block the view as much?
