The laughing scene is so heartbreaking when you understand the context. This guy just found out his father is a world destroying monster, he's trapped in a foreign land he can never leave, and the world he knew was decimated a thousand years ago. Then this girl who knows that her quest ends in her death, knows that everywhere she goes she's seeing it for the last time, knows that she will never see the peace she's going to bring, and that even with all that sacrifice, the threat will come back. Ultimately even her death is a temporary measure. So what do they do? They make themselves laugh. Even when there's nothing to laugh about. Even when it feels like everything is falling apart around them, one of the most well defended places in the world was just attacked. Nothing and nowhere is safe until they complete their journey. So they laugh. Because in the face of impossible odds and unending suffering, you have to stay positive.
I don't think he finds out about any of that until you get to Zanarkand. He's kinda tone deaf in that scene since he doesn't even know that Yuna is going off to die.
@Dangerous_Leon this scene happens right after they leave Luca which is where Auron joins the party, and tells Tidus that Sin is Jecht and that it came to Luca to see him play. And yes Tidus doesn't know that Yuna will die on the pilgrimage, he learns that later in Home. But she knows it.
@@Dangerous_Leonwhen they get to Zanarkand, thwts when he learns that he and the world he knew where entirely just a dream. It's frustrating how many people hold onto the idea of the laughing scene so horrible that it somehow ruins the whole game. It makes me sad the reputation it got from just this scene, out of context, puts a stigma on the whole thing.
I don't care what people think about the famous laughing scene, I loved it and felt the warmth of young teens just trying to live their lives and find happiness.
I say "Tide-us" because of all the water/ocean imagery. Dude swims for a living, gets thrown into the sea multiple times, hell the cover of the box has him on a beach. Tide-us just made sense.

FFX was the last great FF in my opinion. It felt open world but with a linear aspect which allowed you to explore the environments. Open world games these days feel empty and hollow.
It's unique. I wish that FF, and maybe the next one will, would turn to something that doesn't feel as medieval. I love FF12, but I always miss the atmosphere and world of Spira. Even if the game is linear, the world is incredible. And because of the choice to make things linear and static, there is a TON of detail in every area.
Christmas 2001 I got my first video game. No more demos, or having to return a borrowed game from Blockbuster...a game I could call my own. That game was Final Fantasy X
FFX and Kingdom Hearts have my favorite video game music. I used to sit in my dark room with nothing but the light of the tv screen and listen to macalania forest and other area music
I think most people who actually enjoy the FFX story agree that the laughing scene is a great bonding moment with Tidus and Yuna. I can kinda understand why people just find it cringy (As it's definitely meant to be awkward), but it feels so obvious what it represents in the story. Anyways, great video, I learned a lot :D

Oh, it's been awhile since we got a video like this. These types are my favorite. I've learned so many cool things through your videos, and it's especially nice to get these tidbits that don't easily fit into a larger topic. I don't have any strong feelings about the length. In a sense Leviathan was added in the game just not as a Aeon (a bit of a missed opportunity but maybe it was because they didn't think about it or there just wasn't enough space for it 😢) but if you look at Tidus's Brotherhood sword very closely you can kind of see Leviathan's face on the hilt, also the sword looks like it's made out of water so perhaps that was intentional

If you look at the song and how “forced” and plot disrupting it feels to just have that shoehorned in there suddenly it has the same “vibe” as Yuna and Tidus awkwardly fake laughing at Sin. It’s an inevitable unstoppable force of nature that has the whole world gripped in a state of fear. They’re using a childish method of facing their fear, might as well be singing a fake nursery rhyme that Seth McFarlplane just thought up and decided to improvise with Mark Whataburger and that’s why it feels so nonsequitur. I was 10 and never played FF series before. Wasn't sure about the game at first but once I got going man this game left such a mark on my childhood. I beat 15 and 16 and now have Rebirth. So glad I choose it at the holy gamestop.
So happy to see the appreciation for the laughing scene. I've long said those that criticize it have zero emotional intelligence. You have Yuna who knows, one way or another, she will die from the pilgrimage. Then you have Tidus who just learned Sin is his father and finally comes to the conclusion he is never going home. Knowing all this, Yuna still tries to cheer him up. She wants those around her to be happy, regardless circumstances. That's why she is doing this: to bring happiness. It's meant to be silly, clunky and forced. The scene is one of my FF favorites, incredibly heartwarming sweet, showing us Yuna's true character.
I've always interpreted Tidus as being the fayth trying to recreate Shuyin. But since his pyrefly is missing because its in the Den of Woe, the recreation isn't quite 100% accurate, but it is close. Kind of like how we remember the basics of a person's features but might miss the finer details.
Really great video! Love the deep dive! As a wrestling fan its always cool when 2 of my favorite things are intertwined, The New Day in FF14 gear was amazing and Xavier Woods is a big FF fan! Also Imma need that signed copy of FFX. Hope to see similar videos for other FFs soon!
Regarding the secret aeon, there are lots of hints within the game itself that an aeon, and a cloister, were cut. Not the least is that there are 6 puzzles in Yunalesca's ruins, but only 5 aeons. It's also odd that there's an aeon for every element except water, and that the aesthetic of Bevelle (waterfalls and fountains) was not matched at all by its cloister (computers and technology). There has been speculation that Bahamut's cloister was originally in either Zanarkand or Mt. Gagazet, and that the missing water Aeon (presumably Leviathan) was going to be gained in Bevelle.
Not only is wrestling huge in Japan, during the PS2 era Square published at least 3 wrestling games: All-Star Pro Wrestling 1 & 2, as well as a futuristic robot wrestling rock show tv-collab called Heavy Metal Thunder.
This is undoubtedly my absolute favorite FF game. Though VIII VII, VI and IV have strong followers, the story of X, and especially the lore that you had to deduce, make it my favorite.
Still one of the greatest games ever! Still as good as it was all those years ago when a young me had saved up his pocket money and went and got my copy!
The Tidus and Yuna laughing scene feels like some bizarre bubble of societal autism. The context is incredibly clear, it's forced fake laughing because everyone is depressed, only Tidus doesn't understand Yuna is going to her death, so he alone starts a dumb joke of forced laughing to cheer her up. Such a silly action in the face of Yuna's sacrifice actually made her laugh and it successfully cheered her up a bit, then both Tidus and Yuna laugh for real. And yet the accusation is it's bad voice acting and they can't do laughs? how could that narrative possibly have been spread, it's sickeningly obvious what's going on and yet a lot of people are oblivious to it to very extreme levels, I can't even begin to comprehend how people can interpret it any differently to the way it is.
Dansg08's video on tick speed and the CTB system is absolutely incredible. It's such a deliciously complex system beneath the surface, and his video is a treat to watch for any hardcore FFX fans!
I'll add to fact 19 that i'm pretty sure that there's additional changes to the PAL release of FFX, the 4th and last PS2 release. When I tried to read a guide about the crests and sigils, their names didn't match those of my PAL-F disc! It gets complicated sometimes, I wish someone would make a neat table comparing all versions.
The laughing scene is fine. It is awkward. Wakka, Lulu, and the rest look on at Tidus and Yuna like they're crazy. They're being silly, obnoxious, and cringe to let out their inner strife. The forced laughter then transitions into real, natural laughter. It works. It was never played straight as legitimate laughter.
@@toomuchmoneyalan5481 Tidus is derived from the Okinawan language where "tiida" means "Sun" ("yuna" in Okinawan means "night"). It's transcriped as ティーダ (Tīda) in Japanese, which is phonetic, so there's no ambiguity about the pronunciation: [ˈti:da]

Knowing all this, Yuna still tries to cheer him up. She wants those around her to be happy, regardless circumstances. That's why she is doing this: to bring happiness.
It's meant to be silly, clunky and forced. The scene is one of my FF favorites, incredibly heartwarming sweet, showing us Yuna's true character.
its amazing to know that the developers played Everquest, i remember playing it back in 2000, best times of life
It be interesting to see the concept of 17 be realized today.
Sounds like the perfect concept for Final Fantasy XVII.
Did Jack Fletcher say what celebrities they had lined up to play Tidus and Yuna or no?
Titus: its over Father, I have the high ground!
Jecht: you underestimate Sin’s Power…..
Buster Sword appeared in Tactics before IX and XII
It's crazy how much lore there is In a single ff
Not only is wrestling huge in Japan, during the PS2 era Square published at least 3 wrestling games: All-Star Pro Wrestling 1 & 2, as well as a futuristic robot wrestling rock show tv-collab called Heavy Metal Thunder.
I love long-form content. I can't always watch it in one view but love long form
X will forever be my favorite Final Fantasy ❤
Loved the longer form. Keep it up!
I never even considered who Oaka's sister was. Her being a summoner, who didn't come back, makes me wonder if it could be Belgemine
As a hardcore FFX fan, I was surprised to see a couple of facts in here I did not already know. Fantasy video.
People who don’t understand the laughing scene are the same type of people who can’t read social cues.
great video! thanks for the work on this.
I remember playing the Final Fantasy titles that never hit the states on emulation and feeling like I broke the world. An amazing time and feeling.
The CTB system of this game reminds me of FF Tactics. The turn system is similar and even has a turn list.
I saw FFX and I had to click. I was pleasantly surprised and learned some new things. Great video as always yall.
My favorite game in the franchise.
Please do one on FF VIII. Thanks for this one, it's impressive.
Of all the wrestlers to pick out Spike Dudley and The Hurricane haha brilliant
Definitely an awesome video with a lot of information that I didn’t know about.
Love the long format.
MORE OF THESE TYPES OF VIDS, PLEASE 💖💖💖
Dansg08's video on tick speed and the CTB system is absolutely incredible. It's such a deliciously complex system beneath the surface, and his video is a treat to watch for any hardcore FFX fans!
Whoa - I actually didn’t know most of these facts. Thanks!
Please keep making videos about FFX in the future❤️
When I first played the game, I thought Tidus was a time traveler, only to slowly realize what is going on, everything with Sin, etc. 😂🙆🏾♂️
This is my favorite type of video!
My only regret with this is that i didnt play it til O8. I was mainly playing sports and action games on ps2 from O2. I should have got this back then
The laughing scene is fine.
Tidus(Tee-dus)
Nah Tie-dus
Since you can rename him, I renamed him Tideus to make the oceanic tie canon for me, as I imagine many have.
@@lin1130 that’s pretty cool but it’s still pronounced as “Tee-dus”
@@toomuchmoneyalan5481 Tidus is derived from the Okinawan language where "tiida" means "Sun" ("yuna" in Okinawan means "night"). It's transcriped as ティーダ (Tīda) in Japanese, which is phonetic, so there's no ambiguity about the pronunciation: [ˈti:da]
I read the thumbnail text as "Incredible Fax Facts."
Who else is excited for Expedition 33? The story send to have some inspirations from the original "17" storyline of FFX.
Heh, did not realise early Yuna concept was essentially what Lunafreya became in 15
Loved this vid!
FF is the greatest video game franchise ever created
Amazing job, would love one for xii, xiii and xiv
The play online segmate reminds me of ff13 lighting returns
Final Fantasy X: Another Story
Eternal Calm: Final Fantasy X-2 Prologue
This smells like Nomura!
Funny how they were going to have Auron actually be Jecht. When I saw the main characters in EGM before the game came out I theorized that Auron and Jecht were going to be the same person. The only basis on this was the fact that they were the same age. lol
