I watched and listen to this song hundreds of times, never get bored of it. It's the most beautiful electric guitar instrumental ever played, so much emotions in it.
Worked an MTV shoot with David Bowie, at Giant's Stadium on his Sound and Vision Tour after building the scaffolding stage all week. I had the afternoon off and started talking to whom I assumed was the Guitar Tech for Bowie's band. Talked guitars and equipment for the afternoon while he worked. Then I hear him say "Good Talking to you, Time to go to Work! " He straps a guitar on and walks onstage.....It was Joe Satriani! Nicest guy in the Business!
The sound he makes at around 14:03. Is feedback ( on purpose) the monitor speaker in front of his feet, is aimed at his face, so he can hear hisself playing. He hits a note, and then lifts the guitar up to his chin, and the tone will go back and forth between the pickups and the monitor creating this, intentional musical feedback.
The whole intro is played in the original song in the guitar, that's why when the flute played it people cheered recognizing the song, but in that show with an orchestra main riff was played by them and not Steve.
Steve Vai (like sky), is a great guitarist. Steve got guitar lessens from Joe Satriani, another great guitarist to do. Next Steve Vai song "Tender Surrender" For Joe Satriani - Surfing With the Alien(from Satriani LIVE!) , Summer Song (MV), Flying In a Blue Dream (from Satriani LIVE!), Up in the Sky (studio)
Steve Vai never disappoints! If you didn't see it, you almost wouldn't believe anyone could do what he does. You should really check out his guest performance on "Zomby Woof" from Zappa Plays Zappa. Just exhilarating and exhausting to watch. He looks really tired at the end of that one.
Phil & Sam check out his video for a song called "Knapsack". Steve injured his right hand so of course he puts out a song that he plays using only his left hand. It is something else.
On a technical level I put Steve in my top 2 along with Tommy Emmanuel, who is a very different type of guitarist. My favorite Tommy Emmanuel song is Halfway Home though his most popular songs are his covers of Classical Gas and Somewhere Over the Rainbow. If you think this song was “intimate” you need to watch a live performance of Tender Surrender.
"Firewall with band intros" from his conccert Where the Wild Things Are. Also "In My Dreams With You" and "Deep Down Into the Pain" from his solo album Sex and Religion and maybe him playing with David Lee Roth in "Yankees Rose" 🤘
Fun fact: Steve hand wrote all the parts for all the musicians, then hand picked them to perform with him. btw the blowing on the string works.. it's a false harmonic. Basically he is stopping the string from vibrating in it's center (length), this makes the string vibrate in two halves, making the pitch go up an octave. Awesome trick normally done with the finger lightly touching the string for a second.
Actually, this song (For the Love of God) was originally done by him on his Passion and Warfare album back in 1990. So having the orchestra join in was just a neat embellishment. Tender Surrender should definitely be the next one you react to!
I must admit that I winced when I heard you pronounce Vai's name on your previous video. Of course, you had only read the name so why WOULD you know the pronunciation? The way you handled everything for that this time around is great👍 Y'all are the best 👌 😊
Steve Vai pronounced Vie, not Vay, is married to Pia Maiocco, former bassist of the band Vixen (who can be seen in the 1984 film Hardbodies), with whom he has two children, Julian and Fire Vai.
You Must Listen List 1-Damn Yankees Come Again 2-P.O.D. Youth of the Nation 3-Chevelle The Clincher 4-Flyleaf I’m So Sick 5-Creed What If 6-Switchfoot Meant to Live 7-Stabbing Westward Shame 8-Funkadelic Flashlight 9-Live Lightning Crashes 10-Orianthi Courage 11-The Cult Firewoman 🔥🔥🔥
If you want to see Orianthi’s guitar playing. Check out the song she plays guitar with Steve Vai called “Highly Strung” or Orianthi’s Voodo Child Cover
I dont know if you know it but Angelina Jordan has 6 brand new songs of her own,, her music video is called. "Love Don't Let Me Go" ,,,, Their is one with a video in the studio "Now I'm The Fool" , all the song are great but "DIAMOND" is going to Blow your mind
Never fails to impress , rock on ❤❤ guy,s southerby,s london are selling rare items of freddie mercury,s can you play these are the day,s of our lives, freddies last recording ❤
This reminds me so much of the KUNG FU (1972 tv show) theme song intro. Obviously, not exactly the same, but there is a striking similarity and feel in a key part.
Great reaction , don't forget to have a look at STEVE VAI INCREDIBLE GUITAR PERFORMANCE HD video , and have a look at Steve in the 1986 movie CROSSROADS, in the EPIC GUITAR BATTLE SCENE against RALPH MACCHIO ,[ remember the karate kid!. } good verses evil who will win Ralph or the devil's champ Steve Vai. And from my earlier comments don't forget to have a look at an incredible trio DIRTY LOOPS, rock pop funk fusion, 3 classically trained Swedish musicians start with the studio video's especially fans favourite WORK SHIT OUT then the other tunes I recommend in my earlier comments. You 2 will be dancing in your chairs to JONAH NILSSON on vocals and keyboards, HENRIK LINDER one of today's great bass players, and AARON MELLERGARD on drums, once you've watched one dirty loops video you've got to watch another and another , I call their music'HAPPY FEEL GOOD MUSIC. once again best wishes from the north east coast of England.
Reward yourselves with more Steve (and Joe Satriani) in any video you can find of a "G3 performance"! Three major shredders covering some of the best guitar music!
Definitely one of the few pieces that get better with the symphonic orchestra... and that is too much ti say!!! A true Master Piece (The best of the best of the best) *Now try the counterpart "Surfing with the Alien by Joe Satriani. (Not as this kind of complexity buy a very very good one too)
You should check out black label society. Zakk Wylde In doom troopin live.. the song is in this river.. it is great song and a bad ass guitar solo. It's a must hear.
Don't care about the mispronunciation, but I do care that you are finally doing live performances. It's the only way to appreciate an artists true worth.
You watched Steve Vai solo, you watched Steve Vai with an orchestra, why don't watch Steve Vai guesting on a song of another group (Polyphia's "Ego Death") now? ;-)
Gotta definitely check out “Tender Surrender” by Steve Vai. Keep up the reactions!

the 1996 G3 live concert performance of this song is just sublime
so much emotion in a song without a single lyric.
From what I've heard he wrote all the parts for the orchestra too
He did and always does

Steve Vai is unique for ever .
I've seen him twice in Italy a few years ago. If you can, go to one of his concerts, you won't be disappointed.
knapsack is another good one, his arm is in a sling, and he does the whole damn thing one handed.
Awww guyss thank you so much!!
you are both amazing!! 🙏
Got to see him Live in October here in Austin at the Paramount Theater. Guy is just incredible.
Joe Satriani doing Surfing With The Alien!!! He at one time was Steve Vai's instructor.
I was familiar with Vai back when he was with Zappa and when he released his first solo album titled Flexable which was a while ago for sure.
Jeff Beck - Cause we’ve ended as lover - live at Ronnie Scott’s is very emotional, and unique…
Now my friends, you're stuck to react to the cover of this one from Tina S 😉
(and congrats for 70k, impressive!)
who?
@@DavidParching A young french guitarist who did a cover of that song when she was 17. Steve Vai himself was amazed and wrote her…
Joe Satraiani was his teacher
For 2 months only xD
he composed the entire orchestra piece as well.
Phil & Sam check out his video for a song called "Knapsack". Steve injured his right hand so of course he puts out a song that he plays using only his left hand. It is something else.
When Vai was in Frank Zappa's band....Zappa called him his stunt guitarist.
In a month from now I'm going to see Steve Vai perform with The Tampere Philharmonic, if nothing unexpected happens.
Tampere gig was something else🩷🔥 I was there too
You will LOVE Tina S covering this masterpiece... she is PHENOMENAL! 🎸

So basically a pinch harmonic, but using your breath?

Long intro, nobody recognized the song until oboa started at 3:18, crowd goes wild, 3:26 lady on left side shocked.
Since you’re on Steve Vai May I suggest 2 more of his songs?
Bad Horsie,
And Building The Church
I must admit that I winced when I heard you pronounce Vai's name on your previous video. Of course, you had only read the name so why WOULD you know the pronunciation?
