- This was our first trip to the Shetland isles. It was a scouting mission and a cod trip all in one. We caught so much cod and we learned so much that were already planning next years trip. Update...7 of us are booked for September next year.

@allansaunders5007 thank you.
We were there the week before you guys shocked at your loss, never known anyone to nick the fish got to be another anglers from one of the other boats. Back there July cant wait.
Were back in September.
@@Anstey-Sea-Anglers cant be Kevin or his boat digs are not bad either tv needs an update lol
Cracking video lads with some brilliant fish coming aboard well done and thanks for sharing, you had the weather with you for sure.
We did. Thank you.
First time seeing you guys. Can't believe someone stole your fish. You have a new sub
Thank you. It won't happen when we go back next September.
Anstey Sea angling going from strength to strength, great video😊
Thank you. Onwards and upwards
Fished out up there now 6 years ago every fish that came up was over 25lb to 45lb and the turbot bank had skate to over 200lb turbot to 35lb
This is the first video of yours that I have watched. It was excellent!😀 It was an absolutely low down trick to steal two days worth of your catch😡😡😡….I would love to fish up in Shetland, but if that is what’s happening to people who pay good money to end up being stuffed over, then I will definitely rethink my plans. Really feel for all of you, best wishes and tight lines xxxx
Thank you. It was fun trying to film and fish 😆. But I'm happy with the footage. It took me 10hrs to edit it. Thats a new record. Don't let the fish thing put you off. I'm sure steps would have been taken to make it more secure. Its a stunning place to fish from. Like jurassic park when the mist was on the land. I'm glad you enjoyed the film.
I would imagine that it took a good while to edit, you had so much footage over 3 days!
Thanks for uploading it and giving the breakdown of the costs. I think yours is the first video of a 3 day charter that has shown exactly the costs involved and that was part of why I was so angry at how you had been targeted by thieves.
Please keep up the good work with your videos,it was brilliant😀👍🎣 xxxx
Despite some thieving scum bags lifting your fish, that was a hell of a trip, really nice crew of guys you have there, although I now live on the island of Newfoundland Canada I was raised in the midlands and at one time worked in Anstey at Botts garage..small world lol, now I run my own boat, live on the beach and my catch of cod are landed, cleaned, filleted and in the freezer in less than an hour.
That is a small world. How big is your boat. I feel a road trip coming on 😂........ would make another great film.
Were going back to Shetland this year. 7 of us.
I'm glad you liked our trip. We were in Anstey last night again for one of our meetings.
Great video 👏👏👍
Thank you
Enjoyed the video. Long way to go and expensive to catch fish like that which you can get down South. If you want quality fishing, Norway is the place to go. Shetlands has had its day now unfortunately.
they look like holiday makers
Nice video apart from the loss of fish, how much weight did youse get each and how much would it have been, seems like a good trip would almost pay for the boat and ferry. Thanks for posting this
We never weighted the fillets. There wasn't a lot of time on the last morning to get it all vacpacked and on ice. And that was only 1/3rd of what we actually caught.
Were going again next September. And this time we will fillet and vac pack at the end of each day and put on ice. I will be able to weigh and estimate our catch between the 7 of us.
We won't be loosing anymore fish to thieves.
Were taking 4 cameras this time to catch more footage. I missed a lot of fish coming aboard.
Glad you enjoyed the film.
Would like to know your estimate, thanks for the reply, Jon
@johngibson3837 i can weight what i brought home as i haven't used it yet. My freezer is rammed with cod and ling. But its frozen so it won't be accurate.
I will let you know later today.
Cant believe some low life took your fish! Surely you can trace it cant be many other parties there fishing and eveyone needs to get same ferry? Good video looks like you all had plenty fish, and weather was kind to you 🎣🎣👌😁
We believe we know which boat they were on. They left a day before us unfortunately. Taking chains and padlocks next time. Its a shame really because they all leave there houses unlocked up there. Our skipper didn't know what to say. Its never happened before.
@ansteyseaanglers2138 that's such a shame! Some people these days😡. We go to norway every 2 years and bring back fish, I would be devastated if somebody thought it was ok to help there self to my fish. Glad you enjoyed your trip 👍🎣
@michaelrutherford5138 we looked at Norway but the bringing your catch back put us off. Have you tried Shetland?
@ansteyseaanglers2138 not tried Shetland! A few of my mate been said it's good bit you need the weather. Norway 🇳🇴 you can bring 20kg fish home and a good chance of halibut. You should give it a try 🎣👍
@@michaelrutherford5138 were going back to Shetland this year. 7 of us. And then we will see about Norway.
Great video ❤ , what do you do afterwards with the cod , take home or skipper keeps
We vac packed and take home. Its in the film...... all the fish caught are ours.
Awesome 👌, what rod was Keith using
@pmorgan857 It’s a Diawa 50 pound class interline with a shimano tld30 2 speed reel its called the scaffold pole in the group.
😂😂
Hi , great video. Could you break down the individual cost per person. Also what’s the best time of year to go ??
£800 for the boat per day. £30 per person for the accommodation per night. Ferry with 2 people,1 car plus twin cabin return £615.00 then food, drinks, car fuel.??? Plus small Ferry journey £19.50 return.
Its roughly £1000 each for 5 days away 4 Ferry journeys 3 days fishing. Not sure about best time to go but they fish from May to end of September.
Did Kevin not take you guys on the turbot for the last day shame he has had some big doubles in the past 20 plus lb
Crack trip for you guys an a fraction of the price of Norway trips welcome to you all won't feel the same when you guys go out at home lol
@@gordonstrachan3528 no he never mentioned them. We blanked for the first 3 hrs on the last day. Struggled to fish the fish. But made up for it in the afternoon.
Cannot believe some dirty scoundrel stole your fish that's just not on low life's
Where were those turbot? Did you try for the prime fish or just stay on vermin ling?
Turbot was never mentioned. He did say we might pick up a skate or 2. We only fished the ling wreck for a few passes on day 3 then back on the rough ground for the cod.
@@Anstey-Sea-Anglers Lovely turbot near the lighthouse. Perhaps your tides were too strong. You will require more forgiving rods, you are way overgunned; 20/30 class fine. That ringless rod used by one of you needs to be burnt; no bend on it even with a lovely cod on the line. Your 2lbs sinkers may be cheap but they are not streamline and so make any current problems worse. Buy yourself a bopedo lead mould and make a proper job.
@@hughshepherd6596 I agree with the leads. i make them to save lead ( 14oz lead to make a 32oz weight) but they do catch the tide. We use them on the wrecks mainly. My job creates 8 wasted nuts every day so i recycle then. i was using a 12lb/20lb for the first 2 days. then went to a 30lb/50lb on advice that the ling wreck holds ling to nearly 50lb and my rod current wasn't suitable. and i agree about the inline rod, i like to see a bend but that thing ( we call it the scaffold pole) is not my cup of tea. I will look into the bopedo mould thank you.
How much did it cost?
Just under £800 each for complete trip. But more on the boat and living closer to Aberdeen would bring that cost down.
I was a bit quick to asking prices I seen the run down at the end of the video.but thanks for the reply. Works out not too bad if you divide up between you.
how did they steel your catch
The fish boxes have the boat names on. We put the fish, filleted into our box on ice and someone took it all while we were at sea on day 3.
The boxes are not locked. They will be this September when were there again.
Did you find out who nicked your fish?
We suspect it was a mistake. Well we hope so. But that 6 boxes of prime cod is gone. Hopefully they will know everybody knows.
How do you lose 2.5 boxes of fish ??
We had 6 boxes. We filleted
them down to 2.5 boxes . Put on ice, them someone else helped them selves to our fish.
25:38 Where do you get these gigantic Dildo lures? & what are they called? Cheers!
On ebay. From a seller called catchseafish. There just over £20 each. There called crazy tails.
Some amazzing fish and live my fishing, but can’t believe yous butchered every fish 🤷🏻♂️ don’t mind a fish for the table, but gies a break. Are yous opening up a fishmongers 🤦🏻♂️
I did say to him "do you ever wonder if that fish will be the last 20lber you will ever see" We did put quite a few back that we swung in. If you think, 5 blokes winding up fish for 8 hrs using 3 hooks, there were only 8 - 10ish each taken each day. The fishmongers would be poorly supplied having to wait 51 weeks for some fish!!!
@@Anstey-Sea-Anglers in the grand scheme of things I get what you mean, but the reason you have to travel this far north to catch fish this size is because your local areas have been wiped out.
Seems to be the older boys who kill everything they catch, it'll be us younger lot who have to fish empty seas because of it.
Very true. It is 100% a generational thing. These people started fishing during the plentiful years and they’re too tunnel visioned to see the damage they are doing. The big fish genetics have been wiped out of the gene pool where I live, both at sea and in fresh water. There were once 40ib salmon running up my local river - now 15ib-er is a fish of a lifetime.
@@AR-rw7xb seen an Irish fella comment on here the other day saying he used to net salmon off the coast of Ireland, and in 4 months he'd caught and sold that many he bought a house.
People need to be held accountable for the damage they've done.
I hunt as well as fish, and hunting by far has a better conservation background than fishing, commercial fisherman don't care for anything bar money, pure leaches who've damaged a vital resource considering we live on an island.
@@paddydoyle4234 Sad to hear & unfortunately there are similar stories where I live. The fish are seen as a commodity rather than a finite resource & commercial fishermen can never been trusted provide an accurate account of stock numbers etc.
I have been fortunate enough to do a bit of fishing in the U.S and they are miles ahead of us in terms of their legislation & cultural outlook when it comes to hunting/fishing. If you followed these lads lead & came back in to port with a boat load of fish and managed to escape arrest by the local fish & wildlife officers you would probably just end up getting lynched by the locals.
