I like your comment at the end about this video relating pretty much exclusively to Whitby, particularly with regard to drift speeds. I fish off Littlehampton (small private boat) and even on a short tide, 1.5 knots is quite normal. On spring tides (our tidal range is roughly from 4m neaps to 6.5m springs), even 25 miles off, drift speeds can be 2.5knots plus. The LD 20 is also perfect for this type of fish and is just slightly smaller in size (with the same drag). Regards Andy
Hi I've just found your channel and it looks really good, I have been after getting up to Whitby fishing for a long time. What would you recommend for a novice? I have been out a couple of times in Cornwall but that was a while ago, not too much but a decent while as its about 150 miles each way to Whitby from where I live
Very good, I prefer rough ground reef fishing to wreck fishing. I caught my biggest cod (301b) off skiiningrove on rough ground in the 1980s, my rod snapped and I had to hand haul it in, one of the other hooks were gone so I dont Know if there were 2 fish on to start with
Hi Dave. The Muppet rigs I tie myself and the Hookai Traces you can buy from most tackle shops. I have both available on the boat if needed. Regards, Andy 👍
Great video, ive bought a sib so learning lots from you. Do you keep the engine running while drifting over the target area or just silently drift please ?
I keep the engine running all day whilst fishing. When we drift the rough ground at Whitby, the depth of water is 50m, so the engine makes no discernible difference. If drifting close inside in 8 Fathom or less, it would be advantageous to drift silently. Regards, Andy
What's your shortest trips Gary.. been out a few times when I was younger and lost my breakfast. I'd love to have another bash. Can you book late when you know if it's going to be fairly calm.
Hello Andy What sort of reel are you using in your video. Do they do them in left handed! It is looking fairly easy reel that weight up with that long handle 👍 Thanks Keith
I noticed you popping the swim bladder of a small ling and we’re wondering if you think they survive even though they swim down ok just Killer and Copey said they then drown so it’s better off taking them.
Hi Paul. Nobody can really answer that question. They swim off and that’s that. If the fish are of a decent size, I will take them and give them away. Can’t take undersized though. It’s a shame they’re not a bit more robust like Congers.
@@whitbywreckandreeffishing that’s exactly what I do as I can’t stand watching the gully’s pecking them to pieces…Looking forward to the shading videos (my favourite method when the water clears) 👍
Hi Dave. For the bait fishing I use a Saltiga 35 and a Saltiga 20 for Shad fishing. To be fair, the 20 size Saltiga is fine for both applications, as I t has 12kg of drag. The 35 is also good for fishing for bigger fish. Regards, Andy
@@whitbywreckandreeffishing thank you for your quick reply Andy. What size braid would you recommend for the 20? Ive not fished whitby for 40yrs, i need to get back soon. Great videos, 👍
@@whitbywreckandreeffishing If you don't need to freeze your catch, letting them go is the best option, even though they won't thank you if you catch them again at a later date.
@@nathanmcintosh2527you can’t just say yes or no based on tide height. It would depend on the strength and direction of the wind, how far out you are going to fish and the times of tides. I’ve fished the wrecks all day before on 4.7-4.9m but that isn’t always possible. You also have to factor in angler ability. Not a simple, straightforward answer.
The tidal range stays roughly the same Bryan and all the tides are driven mainly by the orbiting position of the sun and moon. Tides change in height - low water and high water vary throughout the month. The tides build up to a maximum and fall to a minimum twice a month. The tides with the biggest difference between high and low water are called springs and those with the smallest are called neaps. Spring tides happen just after every full and new moon, when the sun, moon and earth are in line with each other. Neap tides occur when the moon is in the first or third quarter - when the sun, earth and moon form a right angle. The regular motion of the sun, moon and earth cause spring tides to occur roughly 36 to 48 hours after the full or new moon. Not all spring tides are the same size. Springs nearest the equinoxes (21 March and 21 September) are slightly bigger.
@@bryanhutchison9982 if there are only five people booked on (who haven’t booked the whole boat) it is still £55 per person. I don’t add on any surcharge for running with less anglers 👍
At the end of the day! People won't to catch fish doent matter what tide it is! They don't no that its just catch fish when they pay to go out on a boat for the day
i fished here in the late 80s and had the time of my life ........those days are gone , i fish every now and again but the catch numbers are Pathetic .
I'm not sure how you can claim the catch numbers are "pathetic" if you don't really fish at Whitby very often. The fishing isn't the same as it was 40 years ago, but I don't suppose it is in most places; things change. Most of the "Freezer Fillers" don't bother any more, but the real anglers still come and enjoy a day out. To coin an old phrase.....It's fishing, not catching. Regards Andy
@@whitbywreckandreeffishing I follow the fish reports from anglers and whitby based boats , It's not a dig at the industry or whitby it's just a fact the catches are pathetic to what they were. Let's not forget those freezer fillers back in the eighties were feeding their families. You have a business to run and it's not an easy one , all the best to you .

Hi Dave. The Muppet rigs I tie myself and the Hookai Traces you can buy from most tackle shops. I have both available on the boat if needed. Regards, Andy 👍
@@whitbywreckandreeffishing thanks for the reply
Do you change the hook to trebles on the Hoki's
Hi Kevin. No, the hooks stay the same. I prefer the 6/0 Size hooks. The trebles will just cause masses of tangles. 👍
I notice when you put them back ,I get ur kinda thinking ile see you later,😊
Hi Alan. My trips are 10hrs. If there are spaces available you can just book the day before. Regards , Andy 👍
Great video.
Thanks.
Thanks very much for the kind words 👍 Regards, Andy
Thanks mate very interesting, regards Tel Garbett
Thanks very much Tel. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. All the best, Andy
Love the videos
Thanks very much Ingrid. 👍👍
Hello Andy
What sort of reel are you using in your video.
Do they do them in left handed! It is looking fairly easy reel that weight up with that long handle 👍
Thanks
Keith
Hi Keith. It’s a Daiwa Saltiga LD 35. They are available in LH.
Regards
Andy
@@paulharland7714 I caught on Shads tight inside this week, so things are shaping up nicely at last Paul. Regards, Andy
Which model reel do you Andy
Hi Andy. I use the Daiwa Saltiga LD 35H for wrecking. 👍
Great video Andy 👍
Can I ask what outfit you're using there please?
Hi George. I’m using a Century Excalibur Braid Rod 20-40lb Class and a Daiwa Saltiga LD35H reel loaded with 60lb Braid. Regards, Andy
Thanks Andy.
Very nice indeed.
great vid
Thanks for taking the time to comment David. Much appreciated. Regards, Andy
Great video, great stuff 👏 are you use 16oz lead?
Thanks Pawel. Yes, I always use a 16oz in the larger tides. It’s gives much better control of the tackle 👍 Regards, Andy
What lb of braid do you use on your reels
I use 60lb braid for wreck fishing.
Hi. What size Daiwa reel do you use? 10, 20, 35, 40 or 50?
@@davesedgy7058 I prefer to use 60lb braid Dave. 👍
How much is it on your charter boat for a fishing session
Hi Gary. A 10hr trip is £55.00 and Full Tackle Hire is also available for £17.00. Regards, Andy
Do you ever catch anything you CAN take home, that doesn't taste of fish?
We love Cod, so when we need some, I take some for the table. I don’t just take them for the sake of it. 👍
@@whitbywreckandreeffishing If you don't need to freeze your catch, letting them go is the best option, even though they won't thank you if you catch them again at a later date.
What size weight do u use what oz
16oz Leads on bait traces for the big tides Nathan. Regards, Andy
Is a 4.7 to 5.0 a good tide for wreck or will it be a mix bag wreck an rough
@@nathanmcintosh2527you can’t just say yes or no based on tide height. It would depend on the strength and direction of the wind, how far out you are going to fish and the times of tides. I’ve fished the wrecks all day before on 4.7-4.9m but that isn’t always possible.
You also have to factor in angler ability. Not a simple, straightforward answer.
What real are you using
The reel is a Daiwa Saltiga LD35H Richard 👍
Do the tides stay the same roughly each year ?
@@whitbywreckandreeffishing thanks mate. What is the minimum amount of anglers you’d go out with ?
@@bryanhutchison9982 I will go out with five anglers minimum Bryan. Or the whole boat can be booked for £530.00 for up to ten anglers. 👍
@@whitbywreckandreeffishing does it cost any more than £55 if only 5 go out or can 5 just book the whole boat for £530
@@bryanhutchison9982 if there are only five people booked on (who haven’t booked the whole boat) it is still £55 per person. I don’t add on any surcharge for running with less anglers 👍

Are you from Whitby? sad fish Locker is Not popular in Whitby anymore.
No, I wasn’t born in Whitby Tom.
Hi Andy a bit different from gigantica day s
Hi Trevor. Yes it’s a bit different from Gigantica, but thoroughly enjoyable. Running my own business, I get the rewards from the efforts I put in 👍👍
At the end of the day!
Regards
Andy
@@whitbywreckandreeffishing I follow the fish reports from anglers and whitby based boats ,
It's not a dig at the industry or whitby it's just a fact the catches are pathetic to what they were.
Let's not forget those freezer fillers back in the eighties were feeding their families.
You have a business to run and it's not an easy one , all the best to you .
Nice video mate, spoiled by incredibly loud engine :(
