[TF2] Those Terrible Tips

- Some guy talks about the terrible tips and tricks that most players don't even care to read about, to those that started playing today though, take notes on these terrible tips.
Filler Content be like that sometimes, extremely meh.
Would like to start a new thing for these videos however, Poopy Joe has actually been in each and every single one of them, hidden away for a repeating joke, but, starting with this video. If you can correctly timestamp and say where Poopy Joe is.
For Example; at 5 minutes and 13 seconds, in the trashcan.
Your loadout will be present within the next video, fun little reward for playing a little game of eye spy, plus who doesn't like monkeys? Everyone wins.
This will only apply to the first person who does the correct timestamp by the way, apologizes to those who are just expectational at spotting monkeys but have poor internet and lose out on appearing within the next video.
If you plan on finding the monkey make sure the comment contains the timestamp, location of the monkey and what class you wish to be in addition to any cosmetic items.

The bottle tip was fine. The bottle *did* actually break up until Meet Your Match, and was fixed to break again in Jungle Inferno.

The spy tips aren't hypocritical, just contradictory
And to be fair, the "super obvious" tips are probably useful to someone who has just begun playing and has never played the game. At this point they're not as useful, but there's not much reason to not have them.
Same. I remember not knowing about how to airblast as Pyro, or aim as Sniper. Until i accidentaly pressed m2 haha
@@stoneman18 also, while sniper might sound incredibly obvious, especially to experienced FPS players, it does make the case to beginners that headshots are especially important for snipers. not to mention that aside from ambassador spies, only snipers deal extra damage on headshots. in a genre where most games have any bullet weapon deal headshot damage, this can be important to point out
i kinda miss seeing this dumb tips while i would go into a match ever since i switched from the default hud

@@ziqrsx literally looks like it's written by engie himself lmao
@@ziqrsx As a new player, it actually took me a while to learn the stab'n'sap because of that tip. It took me a while to switch to my sapper and apply it when I was but a mere wee sphee, so I usually died whenever I did. I might have tried to learn it sooner if the game hadn't told me not to.
6:55 this is an actual thing, it's called uber faking. it's used when you either want to dry push (push without uber) or try to convince the enemy to not push by faking an uber call. it's only ever used when you have uber disadvantage or even ubers *and you *DONT* have. it might not seem like a lot, but sometimes it works, and when it does... it works well
EDIT: quick note here, it says "when you dont have an ubercharge prepared"
Knew the term was actually real just hopelessly blanked on what it was called.
In competitive, yes it works slightly better.
In casual however? Going to say it makes little difference and probably just makes the medic more targetted than he already is
I've always been confused about uber faking. Admittedly I'm not into comp and in casual it's about as useful as telling a F2P Engineer to move that gear up, but in competitive I can completely understand the theory behind it. Yet I feel that unless you don't uber mask most of the time it doesn't help and would actually be a hindrance.
If you constantly mask uber and call out ubercharge ready, the enemy Medic can predict you most likely were just faking and get a good grasp of your uber percentage, or at least that you don't have uber. It's completely counter-intuitive with uber masking, so unless you just almost never mask your uber, it doesn't seem like it would work.
On the other hand, by not masking your uber, it's a lot easier to uber fake but also means a lot of the time, the enemy also knows when you actually DO have uber. It just comes down to if the Medic bothers studying up on the other Medic's playstyle to know how they play.
I personally don't get why from almost all comp Medic gameplay I've seen that they uber mask every time and still uber fake when just thinking about it, it shouldn't really work.
@@bryannaing6316 in steel/silver 6s i would always uber fake at around ~80%. higher tier players are more intelligent about it, but at this level, people usually bought it, including my own teammates before I made a bind to say in team chat it was fake
3:26 there's nothing wrong with this tip, it refers to multiple enemies in a way that means in general, and the hp kits in the same way, the English is correct.
It's still a little unclear, though. Saying "enemies will drop a health kit" still makes sense and is much more specific and clear.
But yeah, as it is, it's fine. The change is just an improvement on an already fine tip.
Advice: firends are like trees, they fall down if you hit them multiple time with an axe
so that’s why I don’t have any!
I mean, to be fair a lot of these are fine for new players. I distinctly remember playing spy, and having no clue on how to utilize his tools, or how they worked in the first place.
Same with engineer. My mind was blown when I found out how to repair and upgrade my buildings. Its all second nature at this point and not all that exciting, but back than it was a big deal

The bottle breaking worked originally, there was just a large period of time where it was somehow broken, and it took them years to fix. When the game launched and for many years after it worked fine though.
how ironic. the bottle is considered broken because it never breaks
@@Underworlder5 You’re right, that’s amazing.
7:28 this actually is a pretty decent strategy as medic is pretty loud at crying when you call, and it'll give teammates an idea you're nearby and/or want help so they'll try to cover you.
I also can see heavy’s tips being mostly accurate is because he’s been mostly the same since launch from my knowledge
6:42 Notch do be gaming tho
Imagine one day in the future, we get better tips and tutorials and us who learned the game without those go full on complaining elder.
"Back in my day, demo's grenade launcher had 6 pipes! And we didn't have fancy tips!"
Just like Minecraft crafting book thing
I'm actually quite fond of the "Call for medic as a medic to alert teammates". I don't think it's a useless tip at all since surround sound helps people identify where it's coming from and someone injured will be actively trying to find a medic. Or maybe they're a hungry scout main looking for medic booty on the enemy team, so they follow the obnoxious "MEEEDIC!!" sound and then find you.
There is another soldier tip that is completely wrong. It's an outdated one based around the use of the Righteous Bison.
As a Soldier, the Righteous Bison can hit the same enemy multiple times, and will hit the most times on enemies who are moving away from the projectile. Use it to punish retreating enemies!
However, that is not applicable to the weapon anymore. They changed the projectile type but never reverted it like they think they did during Jungle Inferno. This projectile has a canceling collision when it strikes another hotbox...meaning it doesn't hit the same hitbox multiple times and deletes itself on a ton of different props and surfaces. Similar to the scout's ornaments from the wrap assassin.
Certain maps have areas where weapons with these types of projectiles just don't ever fire like they are supposed to do to these wonky hitboxs. The last point on badwater is notorious for this. You can't shoot the bison there or throw an ornament. It breaks apart as soon as its fired and injures the player who shot them.
I have no idea why Valve made this a thing.
I'm quite positive this was reverted - it does hit enemies multiple times again. The problem with it now was that the hitbox was also made smaller when it was originally nerfed, making it harder to land shots, which hasn't been reverted.
Tf2 tips really do be like: if you move, you can get closer to the objective
*moves backwards*
you should be more specific or you'll be banned for being "too confusing for new players"
These “tips” be like “Right click to aim”
That's useless to everyone except Sniper
@@ju2tunknown *heavy*
@chegg jeff No, that's air-blast, not aiming.
@@Nitosa That's revving up, still not aiming
@chegg jeff I'm gonna assume that "aim" means ADS in this instance. No one can aim aside from Sniper
Great video, but I think you might have missed a tip for scout. I am not sure if I remember correctly, but it went something like:
"Watch your health. Using the triple jump of atomizer at the wrong time can cost you life!".
It obviously talks about the old atomizer, which would take away some of your health when using the triple jump.
They fixed it with Jungle inferno, although none of the atomizer tips mention you need to have it out for the triple jump now.
@@SpaceGuyOnline Well, maybe they did in the English version, but I normally play in official Polish translation, where it was not removed. I guess localization files updates still had not touched it.

Love these videos, would love to see this channel grow
The reason why the Demoman tip about the broken bottle was in the game since launch is because the bottle actually did break on a crit impact from launch up until Love and War, it was broken for three years between Love and War and Jungle Inferno.
they said that in the video
"As an Engineer, buildings are like your children. Hit them to make them work harder"
Basically working at valve
I am so disappointed you didn't mention the best Heavy tip
"As a Heavy, your fists swing faster than the Killing Gloves of Boxing. Equip them with the Sandvich to quickly dispatch lunchtime attackers."
As someone who played TF2 back in 2012 I can confirm that the Bottle did indeed _not not_ break on critical hits. Don't know when it broke but I'd guess it was probably sometime around 2014? Didn't exactly use the bottle much after graduating from 200 hours of Mario_Kart.
shut up engineers tip at the 1:19 is complete true.
7:05 uhh no this is an excellent tip, we use this a lot in competitive, it’s called faking uber

Are we just not gonna talk about how the sniper at 6:42 had the Notch hat?
I need an explanation for this. I thought only one ever existed and it's in Notch's inventory. Maybe it's a weird server or something that let's you do it? (Also supposedly Valve gave it 20% extra damage taken without telling Notch)
@@danielnowacki2020 Yeah, skial servers allow you to wear fake cosmetics and weapons, like the golden pan.
I like the concept of this video, it talks about a topic that hasn't really been explored before. That being said I think there definitely are a few silly mistakes here. Most of them nitpicks but also two major ones which I'll mention first.
5:20 This is objectively false. The demoman's bottle has always been able to break, it worked all the way up until when the Love & War update removed it in 2014 and then it was reimplemented again in Jungle Inferno in 2017. The period in which it couldn't break only lasted 3 years.
5:55 Random crits on *specifically* melee weapons are actually very powerful if you do a bit of math. The base crit probability on melee weapons is 15% but based on how much damage you've done it can go all the way up to a whopping *60%!!* Realistically though as a you're probably going to have maybe a 20-30% crit chance on average.
To show how significant this is, lets assume a fairly low 20% chance on average. If every fifth attack deals three times the damage, that means that the weapon on average deals +40% extra damage! Even if you've dealt no damage and it's your first swing, the base 15% chance still equates to a fat +30% increase in damage on average.
This is nothing to scoff at. The half zatoichi actually used to be known as the "critana" up until around 2015 when they changed it to no longer random crit. The 'no random crits' stat is only a joke on secondary and primary weapons which have a mere 2% base critical chance.
(just for funzies, the theoretical maximum melee damage increase with random crits is +120%!)
6:51 I think someone already mentioned this but there is actually a maneuver where you aggressively bee line towards the front of the enemy with your patient as if you were about to pop uber but then actually don't. Ironically this only tends to work against experienced players, which is why it's not seen in casual often since only about a third of the enemy team is actually good enough at the game to fall for it.
7:22 I agree, although it's worthy to mention that sometimes it can actually work if you're right next to a teammate and are about to be killed by an enemy. That being said I like to just use the c1 'Help!' voiceline as it's a more distinct sound.t.
3:53 I feel like you forgot the tip pertaining to the Bison. It says you can use it to penetrate enemies, but that feature was removed.
That feature is still within the game, the tip itself says it's possible to hit enemies twice with it which is also still possible but not super reliable.
@@SpaceGuyOnline Oh really? I thought it was completely removed.
It was partially reverted, it hits less often now making it still do way less damage than it once did.
6:58 as I know this strategy is Also us in comp
"as a soldier, rockets hurt, use this to your advantage"
I feel like some of the blatantly obvious tips could very well be useful for fresh installs that have never played the game before. I remember not really understanding the sniper charge meter when I was younger. Don't really remember if the tip cleared it up, or if I found out some other way. I feel like, in tf2, there are a lot of things we're 100% familiar with that new players kinda don't really * get *, since they haven't seen the mechanics elsewhere.

*In an alternate universe where gas passer has a tip saying it can light enemy pyros*
SGO: this just tells people to use a bad weapon incase of an unlikely matchup that you can already solve with a shotgun
gas passer might as well be renamed the botbuster, because MVM is the only place you will see people use it seriously
I've been playing since 2011 and can assure you that the bottle *did* used to break on critical hit, but it was changed for a few years. Jungle inferno brought it back, yes, but it was only removed for a few years. Which is a few too many.
actually I found the loading screen tips helpful for telling you about unlisted stats on certain weapons; like how the kritzkreig's taunt will heal you and how both the pomson and bison will light huntsman arrows. granted that second one is completely useless because only a F2P who just booted up the game and got it through the drop system would use either pomson or bison, but still it's still helpful to know some hidden stats here and there
I approve👌, some of the tips are literally "As a medic, you should heal people" or "The quick fix can heal people fast"...
6:43 bro that guy has the notch hat lol
Man, I love yours vids bro. I wish this channel got so much more recognition... the only thing I have to say is maybe make SFM parts like the beginning a bit faster paced, like 20-40 seconds? Nah I still have fashion sense like that
Tbf, I think that the really obvious tips can be a bit useful for newbies who have no clue how the game works so far and try to butterknife a heavy in the face. The tutorial sucking is mainly the cause for it I'd say, heck even finding the tutorial can be a hassle for new players who've never touched the game before.
One tip I think would be quite useful is to teach players how to kick, since whenever I'm in casual I feel like I'm the only, and I mean the ONLY one who is kicking a bot once in every 2 minutes because of how the cooldown works. Not to mention their thoughtless f1 pressing, which also resulted into me and others being kicked instantly when the bot tries to votekick a real player
6:42 You can see a Sniper with Notch hat on the background. Notch Hat was given to Notch (Minecraft Creator) Exclusively, so... WHAT
Supposedly Valve gave it the stat 20% extra damage taken without telling him
7:07 is even more incorect. Due to how math works, the bone saw swings 25% faster than ubersaw. Not 20%.
Actually the medic tip about calling medic is a good tip because teamates can see the bubble is a medic calls for a medic

The Medic tip is right, you can fool enemies by using "Ubercharge ready", it works really well if you're trying to get killed.

Ah yes, most people get better overtime, I think I only got worse, and haven’t gotten better, sure doesn’t feel that way
6:42 That's Notch right there!
I find the soldier frying pan one hilarious cause soldier is one of the 7 CLASSES who can use the pan and the louder noise applies to all of them
"...and probably had a fashion sense like this"
Me, who still doesn't have the gibous: (Laughing) I HAVE NO FASHION SENSE.
7:07 not only is this tip bad because Uber is ALWAYS important, it's also because the bone saw actually swings 25% faster than the Uber saw.
I watched TF2-related videos for a couple months before I actually installed Steam to get the game.
As a Medic Main, I will hear enemies, both near and far call for Medic and start looking around for them... Even as other classes. If you need a teammate to find you, calling for Medic as Medic will inherently gain attention of at least two types of people: Anyone who thinks the Medic is low on HP and wants to kill them, and Medic Mains who happen to be playing other classes because hot damn if that doesn't trigger an instinct to just find and protect the Medic.
As an Engineer, buildings are like your children.

"Travel back in time to when you first started playing TF2"
Well, that shouldn't take long, it was only about 3 weeks ago
As a Scout - Shoot to shoot the shotgun
Yeah, use the "uber ready" voiceline to confuse your enemies. As well as your team. Great 4D chess move. The enemy will now prepare themselves and target you even more in the hopes of dropping you before you can pop, while one of your teammate will probably spam E and charge a sentry nest thinking you got him. But it was a ruse all along. They think you're one of those sheep who think uber is important, who equip the terribly slow ubersaw. They don't know that you have the perfect defense: The stock bonesaw. Granted, thanks to random crits, you'll most likely one-shot 7 out of the 9 classes anyway, but if you really want to melee full-health soldiers or heavies, you might hit them a second time 20% faster. You're basically OP at this point. Sure, you'd have 50% uber otherwise, but... uber is overrated.
7:01 This is a tactic used in competitive, and it def can work even better in pubs. its a great tip
00:16 you when you're probably trying to help someone who's depressed.
The medic tips aren't that bad. It's common to call medic as a medic to let teammates know you're near, mainly scouts when you need to beam them for speed. The ubersaw one actually isn't that wrong, uber is more of an offense-oriented thing. If both teams drop uber w/ equal ad it's more advantageous for the defending team since uber is by nature an offensive thing, and a defensive uber is "less important" than an offensive one. But uber is so important in any scenario that it's worth running ubersaw regardless (Amputator and solemn vow are definitely viable options too tho)
Loading screen tips are the best source of info in the game
iirc heavy has a couple wack tips like "use the stock fists with the sandvich in case you get snuck up on" and "use a shotgun with the kgb cause your minigun takes a while to spin up"

I MAY have found the Poopy Joe.
0:10, Total shot in the dark but I noticed that whatever object that is sitting on top of the box by the stairs where medic, scout, and sniper are (just to the right of the robber’s face, to be exact) disappears in the next repeat of the shot while everything else stays mostly the same. I think that MIGHT be Poopy Joe but i can’t really make out any features of it.
at least 1 of the tips was actually kinda helpful and that was the heavy being able to pick up health kits wen at full hp to refill his sandwich fastwr
All the Pokemon MD EoS music brings back memories of that game even though this is a TF2 video...
7:22 I actually have been doing this for more than a thousand hours after reading it once
Uhh, I saw a broken bottle well, well before jungle inferno. I really don’t see why people keep saying it didn’t break on crits.

4:03 maybe the gas passer wasn’t in the game when valve made this tip, but still, they could of changed it.
I like to think that he wasn't gonna get robbed by the advice guy until he pissed him off
I mean for the first tip of flanking for scout can kinda surprise the enemy medic and get a pick off them.
I believe the bottle could break some time before jungle inferno, but an update (can't remember which) broke it, and wasn't fixed till jungle inferno.
1:13 And thats where your wrong bucko!
Despite the tips being somewhat outdated and sometimes wrong, it's the best tutorial provided by Valve outside of trial and error on public servers or bot matches. The game's actual tutorial only really teaches the basics of the soldier and 3 other complex classes, while also teaching the player combat tactics that more experienced (and successful) players don't do. The tips help fill the gaps that are missing from the tutorial, but that's really ashame as most of these tips should be visually taught to the player via the real tutorial, rather than having players test what they just learned in a public game, such as an ubercharge or double/air jumping. And despite the tips being better than the game's tutorial, it's hard to actually read the tips as you have to randomly click a button that shows a tip for any class, which is hidden away in the stats menu.
TF2 would have benefitted greatly from an advanced tutorial, like teaching how to rocket/sticky jump. those are the bread and butter tactics of soldier and demo respectively, and you have to learn about them through experimenting or other players. even the nudges the game gives does not help much. it mentions rocket jumping in the market gardener stats, but never explain what it is, and while soldier does rocket jump in "meet the soldier", it happens quickly and is easy to miss
I hate that fucking phrase so much, “life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get” you’re gonna get fucking chocolate.

It is useful. The amount of time I was all by myself as a Medic and caught the attention of my teammate like that is more than I can count and vice versa. There are a lot of time where a medic shouted "Medic" to get my attention after seeing me about to die, running back to spawn/a health kit.
