Are yall sure? Cause I'm so nervous I'm going to break myself. However, I have had several surgeries and am very accident prone. You all are very encouraging! I will keep practicing, and I HAVE HOPE that I will love outdoor skating more than indoor before I know it!
Glad to see you mention that. I’m comfortable indoor skating on quads, and outdoor on roller blades - but now I’m trying quads outside, and I’m not a kid anymore. #LongBeach
I’m glad you uploaded this! I was using the indoor technique outside and i was wondering why it was so hard to get over cracks. I can’t wait to try this!
do the wheels get stuck real easy on small stones? blades don't really get stuck on anything but take a long time to get in and out of so its not great for going to the shops.
Skating outdoors is terrifying! I'm in the UK and our pavements are full of potholes, weeds and dogsh*t. I have been really struggling to find somewhere nice and flat. Our street is lovely and quiet, but it's very bumpy and has a lot of inclines. I'm going to keep trying it though. I'm not confident at stopping quickly but I really think watching this video will help as I've also been using the indoor skating method, so probably have been making things harder for myself. Thanks Deb!
I used to roller skate in the town as a teen in Ireland and yes you gotta be alert and ready to bail 🤣. I wanna skate again only with my little girl now...
Just bought skates. Was inspired by watching these cool cats in america thinking I could just step outside into the sunshine. But alas, like you say the UK pavements are not great plus the constant wet weather is not conducive to skating.
As a kid I always skated at my school with my friends. Now as an adult trying to learn again, schools are still a good place to go: open flat pavement for playground games means smoother going for my skates. If you can find an outdoor basketball or tennis court in a park, that works, too. Just be sure to leave if someone comes wanting to use it for its real purpose.
You skate so elegantly cool that I was watching people watching you, ha haaa. Anyway as a kid we learned outdoors skating first because mom always send us outside, but adding the technicals is a major plus. Finally what a beautiful back drop.
@@Geo_Babe I’m in Long Beach and simply googled how to skate outside, and was like “Ummmm is that where I think it is?!” That’s about to be the parking lot where I practice! Lol

I'm interested in quick directional changes/dodges. Are there efficient ways to do that? Running in grass [bailing] is not much of an option where I am [in NYC].
Thank you dirty school for sticking to the “ lessons”in all your videos!! It seems every time I wanna watch an instructional video the host tries to become a comedian. And I keep saying “get to the instructional part”. So thank you your videos are very inspiring and refreshing!!
Happy to help! I love this comment too because sometimes I feel that I go into too much details and that is why viewers may dip out midway though but then .... I KNOW that I need to get the info out and I don't want to compromise.
I like skating the local neighborhoods, they are easy to learn techniques and they usually have good hills! Also another great video! Very helpful and the quality was still good! Dont worry too much, we love you!
These are such great tips! Skating outside is my goal, so I will be practicing these tips! Looking forward to your next video because where I live is a little hilly, and I could use tips on controlling speed. Thanks for everything!
Skated on the streets of Stoke on Trent England growing up as a teen in the 90’s. There were no flat areas and everywhere was full of debris! I’m just starting to teach my 7 year old son and your channel is giving me some great refreshers! It’s amazing what you forget after 22 years!
Curbs are easy. Just jump them! LOL Granted...that may come easier to me since the rink I grew up at actually HAD a curb. Don't know why they built it like that. There was a step down onto the floor, though. About 3-4 inches, so, it really was like a...carpeted curb. Every regular there learned to just skate on the carpet as fast as possible and jump off it at a very early age! LOL
Our rink too! However, that was a whole lot easier back in my teem age years. Then again I also have had 4 different surgeries from injuries over the past 20 years, so I'm also a little more skittish
I really enjoy watching your videos. As someone who was a good skater in my MUCH younger years......I can't believe how much came back to me (that I forgot) as I watch the videos. Now that I am older (50's) I want to rediscover my love of skating while doing a great aerobic activity. I am definitely rusty, but your videos help me understand how to do it safely without injuring myself. Thank you for making such fun and informative videos!
I skate at a secluded park in the early morning. There is usually a few cars so I can practice safely until I’m good to skate with a lot of noise and distractions
DIrty, your advice about bailing out on the grass saved my teeth, face, skin, and life yesterday. This is why you should watch videos all the way through to the end viewers!!! Many thanks:)
The restaurant I work for is opening up car hop and I bought my skates and you have been such a help to learning the basics. Within two days I’ve learned to control my speed, stop and control my turns without falling. I wear all the gear to keep myself safe hehe. Thank you so much! Keep up with the videos I truly enjoy them and they have been really helpful. I’m 28 and the idea of learning how to roller skate at this age seemed crazy but you have made it easy. Thank you again. God bless!
Omg this helped me so much. I never understood why i felt so unstable when skating outdoors even on flat concrete and asphalt. Now i know that i have to skate differently. Thanks so much!
Dudette, you are AWESOME.x Skates were practically my footwear as a kid, but once i became a teen i lost that love. Now as a fully fledged grown up, i have rediscovered a true love.x Thank you for your skate wisdom, and the joy that you have for this magical gift of wheels on feet. I love that you still have your inner child glow, and you are making this process for me soooo much easier...especially after watching "Am i too old to skate?". Love and light to you and your crew.x.x.x
You are so informative. I got skates purely for skating to high school but I had trouble bc I didn't know how to properly stride and place my feet (I also thought the roads were way too damaged and crunchy. But i guess you can go through those!!) And I learned so much from this video And the other one you did. You are truly amazing And I hope you never stop these vids.
Thank you so much for this Video! I've only been skating again for three months. I last stood on roller skates when I was eleven years old, that was more than 35 years ago. Unfortunately, in my town, here in Germany, we don't have such a beautiful roller skating rink as I always see in your videos. But we have a very nice route along a river, about 5 km long. The asphalt is nice and smooth and you drive wonderfully through nature. The only problem: there are many small stones that often lie on the way. That's why I don't really dare to drive backwards. Thank you again for your video. It's always nice and feels like you're riding right next to you. ♥️♥️♥️

could you please put a little tutorial how to go over those cheese graters? the yellow metal plates with all the bumps on them. i’m terrified to go over them. I actually skate at a local highschool! so much open space with the tennis&basketball courts
On one hand im reassured that for at least most of the absolute basics of outdoor skating i already had been using correct technique on the other hand wow! Im blown away by how smoothly you make it around all the outdoor obstacles and how easy you make it look! I primarly skate outdoors and i definitely see myself get more confidemt around routes i skate often however i only took notice of that fact when you pointed out beginners should pick one area for practice. Thanks for this video and for highlighting that just skating outdoors isnt specific enough practice because now i know how to approach improving these skills in a more organised and planned way 👍👍
Hello Dirty Deborah Harry! Greetings from Bulgaria (a country in Southeast Europe). I love the way you say your name at the beginning of each video - it sounds like some kind of mantra, it’s very euphonious. I got my skates three weeks ago and I had to wait one week to the snow to melt so I can finally try them. Here in my country there is no such huge culture of roller skating as in America. We don’t even have roller skate rinks (only ice rinks). Also our streets are mainly constructed by cracks, holes and any kind of bumps. At least some park alleys are fine. But all of this can not stop me from skating, so enough of it. While I was waiting the snow to go away, I started to watch your videos. And I want to tell you - THANK YOU, Dirty Deborah Harry! Thank you for being so great and passionate teacher!
Great idea. I stopped using toe stops when I first began training on the banked track for the Roller Derby. Inadvertently, it forced me to become a much better skater, having not to depend on my toe stops. My balance substantially improved. Hockey stop both forward & backward too
So nice to be able to comment on these rides of yours seen by me in the parking lot by the Pacific Ocean. Thank you so much for the feedback. I have been through 3 resurgences in roller skating ;) I am so happy that new people join and that others are offering instruction. I will just keep doing what I do and hope to always make a positive impact. p.s. I LOVE AUSSIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@Dirtydeborahharry Well I love you! I love that you do things your way! I feel like you serving up your brand of weirdness does make a positive impact!
PS. It was me who literally yelled "DUCK!" while I was skating the other day and shared on Instagram stories, haha. I think the little girl in front of me pooped herself... thanks so much Ms. Dirty xx
I'm interested in quick directional changes/dodges. Are there efficient ways to do that? Running in grass [bailing] is not much of an option where I am [in NYC].
Yeah what Shilvio said!!! Lol, I'm in Cleveland, OH, so this applies to me as well. =)
Great video suggestions!! I will do this!
In the meantime, I found planetrollerskate's video on this really helpful!
@@AJDwatching link please
Yeah seem like the only skating ring is the peir downtown Brooklyn their no indoor rink
Years later and this is still a great video to learn from. Thanks Dirty!
I love wearing my gear and for some reason it gives me more confidence! Love the video, much appreciated!
I like that surprise snare drum music in the background 😂
Then again I also have had 4 different surgeries from injuries over the past 20 years, so I'm also a little more skittish
mine has one too hahaha
I really enjoy watching your videos. As someone who was a good skater in my MUCH younger years......I can't believe how much came back to me (that I forgot) as I watch the videos. Now that I am older (50's) I want to rediscover my love of skating while doing a great aerobic activity. I am definitely rusty, but your videos help me understand how to do it safely without injuring myself. Thank you for making such fun and informative videos!
I skate at a secluded park in the early morning. There is usually a few cars so I can practice safely until I’m good to skate with a lot of noise and distractions
You are a natural born teacher! I went back to skating after 30 years! Your videos were extremely helpful! Love your positive vibes and your energy!
You make it look so easy that's why you a "grand master roller"✌
ahahhahaha! Thank you :)
DIrty, your advice about bailing out on the grass saved my teeth, face, skin, and life yesterday. This is why you should watch videos all the way through to the end viewers!!! Many thanks:)
Awwww yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need to find outdoor areas with smooth pavement. The parking lot and trail I tried earlier had too many pebbles.
God bless!
I love your videos and energy✨💖✨. AWESOME tutorial! Practice makes progress👍🏽. More outdoor videos please. Thank you 😊 Deborah and cam dude!
Thank you so much! I will do my best.
Omg this helped me so much. I never understood why i felt so unstable when skating outdoors even on flat concrete and asphalt. Now i know that i have to skate differently. Thanks so much!
This is so helpful!! Thank you so much and you are such a ROCKSTAR
Cute outfit, and so nice to watch Debbie skating outside
You’re so incredible at explaining body mechanics & you inspire me to practice harder ❣️❣️❣️ You’re my #1 tutorial queen!
♥️from Texas
Thank you so much. Sometimes it is difficult to explain technical skating skills in a manner that is enjoyable to watch so I appreciate this comment.
Perfect video for alternative skating (outdoors) during covid SIP and our favorite rinks closed. Tell us about outdoor wheels, like I use road hogs and skate stops...much thx
ua-cam.com/video/Squ5txgrFcI/v-deo.html Watch this video :)
So simple and straightforward! Gets me excited to get back out
Pretty skates! What kind are they?
Great advice. Also, a mic 🎤 muff is just essential when filming outside.
But great job, I can’t wait for more from you. Your obvious love of skating and teaching really comes through. 👍🏼
I pass that beach on my way to work every morning. I've been wondering about skating outside and how to avoid falling over pebbles and leaves and stuff, so I was very grateful to see this!
Love your video so informative! Thank you!! Xoxo
Thank you for the videos. I'm 54 and recently decided to skate at the rink with my granddaugter. I was average skater but never skated outside. Because of this video i skate outside daily. Your techniques saved me several times. Thank you.
I'm on day 2 of practice and my inner thighs are reallly feeling the scissor motion 🦵🏾
Im from the Bahamas.and just got my roller skates.i practice on our park daily. I watch you and try my best.so continue im enjoying this.yes, im a nurse at a psychiatric hospital.Skating is awsome
It take s my mind of Corona
Nice! Going outside now!
This new video in which you went down the road and went to work out for the parking lot has helped me a lot to learn how to skate better.

I like you very much!
I can't get over the squeaking when she runs over the grass it's hilarious
I recently ordered roller skates. They haven’t even come in the mail yet but I’ve been watching your videos in preparation! I just wanted to say you’re a great teacher and say everything so clearly and in a way that’s easy to understand!
Awesome! Thank you!
could you please put a little tutorial how to go over those cheese graters? the yellow metal plates with all the bumps on them. i’m terrified to go over them. I actually skate at a local highschool! so much open space with the tennis&basketball courts
I skate tennis courts too
On one hand im reassured that for at least most of the absolute basics of outdoor skating i already had been using correct technique
on the other hand wow! Im blown away by how smoothly you make it around all the outdoor obstacles and how easy you make it look! I primarly skate outdoors and i definitely see myself get more confidemt around routes i skate often however i only took notice of that fact when you pointed out beginners should pick one area for practice.
Thanks for this video and for highlighting that just skating outdoors isnt specific enough practice because now i know how to approach improving these skills in a more organised and planned way 👍👍
“It’s almost that time when the weirdos come out.”
Bahahhahahahahhahahah!!!!!
It is the truth! They come crawling out from their holes! LOL! I can still skate but they will try to talk to me, get in the video, yell at me! LOL!
@@Dirtydeborahharryexactly what time is it?
U should make a video on jam plugs or just different types of toe stops
will do!
It's great to be able to learn new ways with you to be able to walk with one leg in front of the other and to be able to climb sidewalks in progress. Thank you so much Déborah for sending me this link of yours. Hugs from Jaime Reis.
"Down with the butt, up with the gut"- that's what he said.
I skated outside for the first time today and I’m so proud of myself thank you!
Hey...i love your personality...just wanted to know what is the best indoor wheel to have??
For indoor skating, I like hard wheels. Try Sure Grip Fame wheels … all sorts of colors and a budget friendly price.
@@Dirtydeborahharry What is a good outdoor wheel that you would recommend and what are the major differences between the two. That might make a good video. Going over the different wheels and skate set up for indoor vs outdoor skating. I am really enjoying your videos. You're a great teacher and you do a wonderful job with keeping your videos interesting. Thank you!
@@RDeanCavero yes and safety gear perhaps you should show a little of the saftey gear you can get as its illegal in many places not to wear appropriate peotective equiptment
Love this woman ! She’s real and I enjoy learning from her 😃
Thank you Carmen 😀 I appreciate that!
new skater and just realize my outdoor technique was the same as my indoor technique which resulted in me plowing into my own car in the parking lot LMAOOO (im fine lol)
Glad you’re ok 😩🤘🏽 im workin on my stops too. broke my finger last year cus i flew onto someone’s front lawn 😭😭 can’t have that again
My home town! I love long beach. Thanks for the tutorial!
Down with the butt, up with the gut!
That tip about going up curbs sideways was brilliant!!! I almost bit the pavement years ago rollerblading because i didnt know how to go up! Im excited to learn this on skates!
