“The word ‘virgin,’ some say, was derived from a Greek word that meant ‘not attached to a man,’ a woman who was “one-in-herself.” Goddesses like Ishtar (Assyrian-Babylonian), Diana (Roman), Astarte (Greek) and Isis (Egyptian) were called “virgins” not because they were inexperienced but because they were strong and independent.”
Don't forget Artemis and her followers/worshipers/huntresses (I forget is Astarte is the same goddess by a different name, but either way, name recognition 👍)
I strive to see the day that people understand the hymen is not a "freshness seal", that virginity is what you make of it, that sa victims aren't tainted, and that losing your virginity should be a symbol of love and trust. It's just a way to say you had a consensual experience with someone.

If the original word used in “Virgin Mary” would be closer to “young” so… based on that, virginity does exist and I guess you lose it when you’re no longer considered a child (between 15-18?) This is me being light hearted. This isn’t a serious a rebuttal. ☺️

I always thought it was really weird how American social media and media are so attached to virginity. Like why are there so many shows and movies that talk about virginity with high schoolers as the subjects? Why is being a virgin as a man lame, but not being a virgin as a woman shamed upon? Nasty obsession with virginity 🤨
Because the majority of the modern world is built upon the social structures set by a hugely mistranslated text that has also been changed and revised hundreds of times to better fit biases of an individual person instead of just sticking to the original stories. Abrahamic religions are what our society is built on whether you like it or not. And those have not been adapted well to modernism. “In the beginning” should be “in a beginning “. Jesus was actually historically born in April as far as we know. The only reason Christmas happens in December is because some royalty a long time ago wanted to overshadow the pagan traditions of celebrating winter solstice. That way, more people would convert to Christianity.

The video is based on a false premise , the Hebrew originals she refer too don’t exist. Still on the Greek older version we have the point is not that virgin= pure but that Jesus was the product of a divine act. The whole purity think comes pretty late, from the Roman.
As a Christian woman, I've never seen Mary used to make women feel inferior or that we can't live up to her example. I can see how some might misinterpret it, and I am sorry that some people in religion might use that to 'control' women in some way. For me, I always saw Mary as a symbol of hope. God chose Mary not because she was perfect, popular, or full-figured, He chose her because she was faithful to Him. I see it as a form of honor that God chose Mary to carry His Son, Jesus, because she was obedient to Him. Also, a fun lil' fact you forgot to mention, not only did Mary get pregnant while being a virgin, her cousin, who was infertile and way beyond childbearing age, also conceived Jesus's cousin John the Baptist. Mary also has a few other children with her husband after Jesus was born. We also see Mary mess up when raising Jesus as well as seeing some of her human flaws in scripture. Mary isn't supposed to be a figure to suppress women, she's meant to show how God can take those who aren't 'special' and bless them. TL;DR: Mary isn't supposed to set an impossible standard. She is supposed to be a powerful woman who showcases God's love and blessings. "Ma'am this is a Wendy's" And this is my two cents.
I couldn't have said it better myself. I remember when I was in youth group growing up, our youth group leader always told us to think of praying the Rosary as talking to our mom. Because that is who Mary is: she is everyone's mom. She is a force of kindness, comfort, and guidance for many, a role model for living devoted to Christ.
Nevertheless she is an icon, a justified reason that further encourages our society’s obsession for virginity. Why are womanhood values be tied to being “obedient” and “pure”. All religion originated with good intend and so is Christianity. It’s just that some values in the wrong hands of people can be a weapon of oppression.
As a muslim I agree with 80% of what you said. The rest is a difference unrelated to the point so no worries about that lol. But yes even the Quran, Mary is a virgin. I can't believe someone can try to prove she wasn't 😂

Well said! The researches the artist (incredible artist, btw!) made were probably on non trustworthy sources. One of the first things we learn in Theology is about the sources of the texts, of the old and new testament, and it's not at all a question of belief, but purely of history, archeology, not at all a matter of faith - this is an important fact. I speak as an student of theology, and sadly there's a lot of information that people don't know, just like in the case of this lady, that goes far beyond of "curiosity" facts: there's history, studies, lot of work, and most of it doesn't come in magazine articles, because demands time and effort to understand, and mostly people don't want it. Hope someday you also go beyond on these studies, to know a little more and make your art a source of even deeper information for people 😊
true, but it doesn’t mean virgin as in the way we say it today, a virgin is someone with a pure soul/a very good person and has nothing to do with sex originally
@@m4tta Hey Matt I appreciate the reply and well there is a point to say that. I would have to disagree. Even if it was pure in the sense that she was clean according to the Bible. But because she was not betrothed to her husband for her to be considered pure she would have have had to have been a virgin. Also that theory you have does not account for Joseph fear for Mary’s life: if he would have publicly divorced her she would have been killed (I believe this is a horrible and an err in there religious practice). Also Matt I want to be clear, I believe you are entitled to your own opinion’s and believes. I am in no way telling you what you should believe. But I am attempting to impart my knowledge on these scriptures to anyone unsure or fuzzy about it. Have a great day.
I disagree with this: the Bible does in fact say that her husband got scared because he knew that he had never slept with her, it was a mutual agreement between them. When Mary got pregnant and he got scared the Lord came to him and said not to be afraid because she HADNT slept with ANYONE, therefore she WAS a virgin. The Lord Explicitly chose THIS virgin because he was showing his power by impregnating an untouched woman with Jesus. :) and someone in the comments said they were disgusted with how the Bible was focused on her sexual status (or however they put it) but it was in fact important she was a clean virgin woman.
Mary was betrothed to Joseph, in essence the contract for marriage under Jewish law was complete. But she became pregnant before she had moved into Joseph's house. A sign the the marriage contract was consummated. She could have been stoned to death for adultery, but scripture tells us that Joseph did not want that to happen and so was willing to divorce her quietly rather than accuse her of adultery. However before he divorced her he was visited by an angel who explained to him that the child was the son of God. And Joseph being an upright man remained as Mary's husband. Mary was a virgin and that's why they thought she must of lost her virginity to be pregnant.
Yep.. bcs the men had to work there butts off to pay a dowry for his bride's future. (In advance) .. Back then the dowry was the equivalent to Welfare checks - or Social Security for the woman.. (as well as children). In case something ever happened to the husband. With the man having to work and save up to 5-10 yrs of his earnings during the engagement for his bride, (depending on how wealthy he was) then you could expect for darn sure he'd expect his future wife to NOT be hookin' up with other men!
Another fun fact: men weren't supposed to be fooling around either. Because sexual intimacy was meant for marriage . with ONE partner. And they didn't do this casual "dating" or Tinder thing.. or sampling. Or however you want to call it.. both chose their respective partners carefully.. If only people knew what they really do to themselves these days.. it isn't about what others think- don't you all know when a person has sex - the brain releases a chemical called, Oxytocin.. ( which is a bonding hormone). And it's like gluing two pieces of cardboard together - and then trying to rip them apart.. Good luck w/that - there will be pieces of each other still stuck together.. (for Life). So you can imagine what it does psychologically/emotionally, etc.. if a situation doesn't work out w/the wrong person.. somebody's gonna get hurt really badly.. and that's what drives some ppl to do some pretty crazy stuff. Can't say casual sex doesn't hurt anyone.. even if its consensual- bcs the evidence out there is pretty clear that does.

@@TandJgaming yes well. It is a little more complicated than that. First of all we have to remember that the four gospels were written many years after Jesus died. So they recall the things that Jesus did from memory and his birth from false as Mathew, Luke, John and Mark weren't there at the time. So they had some chance to let's say be creative about this. So in the old testament there was a prophecy in Hebrew that stated that the Messiah would be born to a young woman. When that was translated to Greek the Hebrew word for young was translated to the Greek word for virgin. (Maybe to make it more spectacular maybe by accident I don't know it was 2000 years ago) so now there needed to be a story of a virgin birth. Also note, that Jesus birth is not toled exactly the same in the 4 gospels. Maybe read the beginning of each gospel to compare. So yes. It is not very scientific to take the bible by word. The stories have to be interpreted in the historical context

Hi friend, I want to clear something up here. The Gospels (Matthew Mark Luke and John) we’re all written in Greek originally. Due to the Hellenization of the area in that time period (that’s the Greek influence in culture, politics ect…) most Jewish lay people didn’t even know or speak Hebrew. Therefore there can’t be a translation issue from the Greek since it was written in Greek originally. I would encourage reading Matthew 1:18-24. You can compare various translations like the King James, English Standard and others. What you will find is that the emphasis of Mary being a literal virgin is central to the story, highlighting the conception of Christ by way of the Holy Spirit. This is also fulfills Old Testament prophecy about the Messiah (Isaiah 7:14). I am a Christian women pursuing a degree in Biblical Studies and apologetics. I love talking about the Bible, the truth of Christ and what it means for humanity. The virgin birth is not about Mary’s moral accolades, rather it is a sign of Christs divinity, an assurance that he is worthy of taking the sin of the world and offering eternal life, which I pray for everyone who hears the good news, The Gospel. Blessings and peace to you!
Mary is the ultimate figure head for women all around the world. She is integral to the Catholic Church and only is shown as a figure of selflessness and strength. She is our mother.
She isn't a virgin since it mentions in the bible multiple times about her other children which were born through her and Joseph. Unlike jesus who was born through the Holy spirit meaning she was virgin then
@@jack_Armstrong_2 Matthew 12 : 46-50 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you." He replied to him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" Pointing to his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother." So yes, Mary did have other children :)
For what I gathered the word for brother used was used a little more broadly. Protestant believe the meaning was indeed brothers as sons of Maria and Joseph, Orthodox believe they were sons of Joseph in a previous marriage and Catholic believe them to be cousins of Jesus. All three are possible looking to the words only. I think there may even had been two "sisters". I'm in no means an expert and my English is not perfect. My words should be picked with a grain of salt.
Yes the first two books of the New Testament was written in Greek, the rest were actually written in Aramaic which was the spoken language by most in the Middle East at the time. And Remember that just like 2,000 years ago English is different from what it is today, Greek went through the same thing. Words, phrases and even letters have been dropped, added or simply changed due to the terminology meaning something else than it previously meant. So yes Virgin could have meant an unmarried woman in Ancient Greek compared to what we know see it as today.
Finally! So many arguing over the terms and no one addressing the time period and how languages change. Just look at the term "gay" over the last century

Oh! Mistranslation and twisting words from the Bible *have* been used to suppress women! One of my faves is the letters of Paul which seems to be full of anti women rhetoric. And stripped of context and missing its original grammatical cues, yes. He’s quite the sexist. But most of what people quote is completely devoid of context. Ex. “Women should be quiet in classroom” but he’s talking to someone who believes women shouldn’t get an education. Their phrase was “Students should be quiet in classrooms” Paul is saying women should be students. They deserve education. There’s also stuff like this for being gay and black. Yup. People used the Bible to justify slavery!
@@meminhofuny Hey, if you don't like hearing facts, you don't have to read them. Unfortunately, the truth doesn't care about your feelings. The *truth* is that the Bible has been perverted by Kings and Popes to push a cis het agenda that approves of the mutilation of babies (and having s*x with children if the two very religious parents of my friends have anything to say about it). You, of course, don't have to accept the truth. Just like you don't have to accept that the Earth is round. But linguists and historians have recorded the changes in the Bible and used modern-day Hebew and Greek to reverse engineer Biblical Hebrew/Koine Greek to get a more accurate translation. There are also just some changes brought on by misunderstanding. There are some Bibles that say that Moses grew horns when he came down from the Mountain, however, If you translate the original text directly into English, It's more that light rays shined from behind Moses *like* horns made of light rays. Bibles after 1946 say that "men who have sex with men will not inherit the Kingdom of God" but older versions and the original text says "abuse" instead of "have sex with." I understand it's hard to accept that you're on the side of people who perverted the Bible, but that doesn't make you a bad person. Anyone can be manipulated and tricked.
I think virginity is real but I think I just have a different definition than most people 💀 I literally just consider anyone who hasn't had sex before a virgin. Not that it makes them pure or anything, just that they're a virgin and inexperienced when it comes to sex
well but then comes the question, what is sex? Does kissing or having sexual contact equal sex? or does only strictly penetration make you not a virgin? what about doing most of the sex but just 'not putting it in' - does that all of a sudden mean you didn't have sex? then what about same-sex couples? specifically, lesbians, is their sex not sex just because there isn't penetration involved? kind of went on a rant, but the point is that virginity is dumb because everyone should have their own interpretation of what sex is.
@@dontpanic6349 True, and as a lesbian I agree. I consider sex to be literally like, any sexual action using the genitals. So, that includes lesbians, gay people, straight people, etc.

Fun Fact: "Maiden", such as how you say the original Hebrew text called Mary, means "A woman who has not been touched by a man" touch being used as a synonym for sex. This is the original usage of "maiden". So yes, Mary was a virgin
Wrong. The Hebrew word for "virgin" is “almah”, which can also mean "young woman." But in every instance where the word “almah” refers to a young woman, she is also considered to be a virgin. When reviewing the Septuagint translation of the Hebrew word “almah”, it is translated into Greek as “parthenos”. This Greek word precisely means "virgin." That being said, it is very clear that in Isaiah 7:14, the word almah = parthenos = virgin.
As a Christian, the Virginity of Mary is in no way used as a “fetish” or standard for what a woman should be. It is seen as a miracle, by definition impossible except by God. It is a sign that Jesus is not just a man, it is not meant to signify some unreachable standard, as in essence it is a *miracle*, not instructions. What is praised about Mary is her willingness to follow God despite what it would mean to be pregnant without laying with her husband. Following God’s will in spite of fear or hardship is praised in many many characters of the Bible, men and women. Not to mention that there are multiple passages using different words, including the word for virgin. Most Christians learn about biblical terminology and languages in school, as we do of course care about the true meaning and are open to multiple interpretations of the texts. This may vary between churches somewhat, I went to an ecumenical school (Catholics and Protestants) as a Catholic and we discussed a wide range of interpretations of the texts, including the place it does say “virgin” in the gospels. If Mary’s virginity has been used against you in this way, I am so sorry. But at least I can tell you that this was not Christianity using it that way, but people. People have twisted the Bible into horrible things, and I understand aversion to it because of this, especially being a woman myself. But know that there are so many more people who are Christian than these awful ones, and ones who do say this are clearly not truly Christian, using words out of context to achieve their own ends.
Thank you, I needed this.. Tw- venting ect. When I was growing up, I was r@ped by the priest and tried to make my voice heard about what happened, but no one believed me, and I was still often forced to go to church by my parents. They said it was just always a nightmare. I was 3-5 years old and didn’t know what sex was. I didn’t even know where meat came from, so I said to my teacher one day: “the priest at my church touches me in a way I dont like” and she was the only person who sat down with me and told me it’s not good. And when I told the sister, she shamed me for not being “pure” or “holy” and told me “lying isn’t something angels do. Stop saying such blasphemy about the father. When you spread lies about the father like that, you are lying to Jesus and God, drawing you away from both of them. And ruining your chances of getting into heaven” and I was often abused by other members of the church for “lying about the father” or “not being pure” or “having s€x at such a young age” and said “Im a stupid little bitch that should keep her mouth shut” and “I am property and men could do whatever they wanted with me no matter how I felt about it.” And they often shamed me for being a young girl. And at the time, I had no clue what I did wrong. Because of that, I started wanting to hurt myself, and did. I even tried to break my neck. That teacher was someone who saved my life, and then the incident in Uvalde happened and I lost the one person who believed me and got me away from the abuse, and made me realize Im not what the church made me for. And the word “virgin” doesn’t mean being unpure or unholy, it means that you had the power to say “no” when you felt it wasn’t right. It means not being attached to someone, or being strong willed. And if you couldn’t say “no” due to pure pressure, that doesn’t mean you aren’t still worth being cared for, or worth being loved, you are worth everything. Even if you willingly had s€x, that means you trusted someone enough, and thats good (sometimes). You are worth _everything_, no matter who criticizes you, your worth the world, and if you haven’t realized it, find someone who is willing to help you, if you do, then thats great.
I can't even imagine what that must have been like and I wanted to thank you for sharing your story. I'm so sorry that happened to you and I wanted you to know that you are absolutely worth it. You are worth everything.
You aren't alone. Me too. Before 3 to 7 years old, multiple men used me. Parents never even tried to catch on because of how deluded the church made them. Although I only remembered after I turned 21, and most of my childhood is actually repressed memories. I'm remembering it slowly, and after 3 years of pure therapy, I'm finally getting some good memories back. You can do this, and you are not less because of what others did to you. You are actually stronger than others who don't know what its like because you survived it. You are a survivor. You got this.

interesting you say that since in Judaism they teach you that Mary had a child from god, and that she never actually had sex to have a baby. but on the other hand, many people who interpret the bible specify that Mary being a virgin is a lie, that she lied about not being a virgin... but some people say that it is true her child came to be by a miracle. it's up to belief I'd personally say - but logically, it would make more sense to say that Mary being a virgin is false.
The slut shaming part is bad but you can't blame people for liking what they like in this situation. Honestly I think there are a lot of logical reasons to why that may be true. Of course there's always some dumb in the mix but yeah.
If they believe in double standards they're aholes but it's not wrong to be disgusted by date that slept around if the guy himself is a virgin and wants a virgin
The reason why the church values virginity is because it shows you have the willpower to abstain till marriage. Mary is still a symbol of purity because she was morally pure. That’s why God chose her to be the mother of Jesus, and she said yes. And finally, Mary is not a standard. She’s a role model. No one expects all women to be the Mother of God.
I just wish we could respect each other both ways honestly. People need to respect people who don’t want to wait until marriage and we need to respect people who do wanna wait. Regardless of your belief system, being a good human goes both ways.
then that would make Mary a liar since Jesus has older siblings James, Joses (a form of Joseph), Simon, and Jude, and unnamed sisters are mentioned in Mark and Matthew.
In german it's "Jungfrau" which translates literally as youngwoman. Jungfrau both means virgin and well, a young woman. It's generally not used like that anymore and means virgin to most but when reading "youngwoman" you obviously still associate it with it's literal meaning, especially in the context of her being a mother. So as further proof, not all languages read it as virgin. Some read it in the correct way or at least don't only read it as virgin.
Same in swedish! But I'd say "jungfru" is more associated with being a young woman than with being a virgin. I think "maiden" would be a good translation it's also used in compound words like "jungfrudom"/"maidenhood" and "sjöjungfru"/"mermaid".
The point is, Mary conceived Christ without intimacy with a man, but by the grace of God. It’s not meant to be standard, not to mention life magazine is in no way shape or form a reliable source on the Catholic faith.

So why the extra step? Or so I've been led to believe my entire life up to that point. After we got the results back that I wasn't pregnant. I was like yeah duh. That is when it hit me. I think I even asked him what's the point of the test if they can just tell with the pap. no one answered me. I thought it was odd but I just kept quiet and trusted the doctors.

I just wanted to say that Luke 1:27, the verse which refers to Mary as a virgin, was written in Greek, not Hebrew. Also, in Matthew 1:18, it says that Mary and Joseph had not come together. I respect your opinions, and you, of course, are free to say anything you like. As a person of influence, though, it is your responsibility to provide factually accurate information and correct your mistakes. I see how this one (misinterpreted) piece of information could be used as a way to make yourself feel better, but it is hiding from the truth. Virginity may be overemphasized, but that is because of its parallel with fornication, the sin of having sex with someone outside of your marriage when you are not married (for more about fornication, 1 Corinthian 6:9).
In Islam the focus is never on Mary being a virgin, but instead her being a pious and kind person who worshiped Allah. In fact there are several indications made toward her humanity, and that she is just like other humans and not an impossible standard to reach.
Sobahallah Mariams story brings me to tears. The girl narrating this video is lost and I blame Christianity for pushing so many people away from the truth with it’s false translations and convoluted message.
If you actually care why this is not true, please read below: “And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”” (Luke 1:34) …”For nothing is impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37) I’m sorry you were misled by Life magazine that was talking about a debated word in a prophecy in the Old Testament. However, in the above passage, written originally in Greek-NEW testament, not Hebrew, it does say clearly that she was a virgin. If she wasn’t a virgin, 1)why would she be surprised? 2)why would the angel say that anything ‘nothing is IMPOSSIBLE with God. If you’re still confused, just reread the verses I included above. BTW, regardless, virginity still exists regardless.
I have never been told, as a woman of christianity, that I am EXPECTED to be a virgin mother. And just because it was allegedly mistranslated in the bible doesn't mean that virginity just... straight up doesn't exist as a concept anymore?? Just because YOU think it's fetishistic doesn't mean you get to Thanos snap the entire term away lol
It is important to note, that if you value the concept of virginity for yourself, and it is important to you, then you are absolutely allowed to call yourself a virgin and make a big deal of it. It’s your body
hey, I absolutely LOVE your videos and art, and I was wondering if you could paint a historically accurate Mary? by that I mean that from the middle east, and maybe give a bit of background to that.
It is 100% possible Mary had a fair complexion. We do not know. Painting Mary with olive skin may have a higher chance of accuracy, but the Israelites of the Middle East varied from olive to fair, like modern day Jews.
As a Muslim, we save ourselves until marriage because God said so. I believe that Mary was a virgin and no one told me to reach her level but to try to be as good as her, she is a great role model for us. Prophets are great role models for men and they can't reach their level, does mean they are oppressed.
If you trace it right back you find that Jesus was not his original name, it means hail Zeus, his real name traced back was Iesa and there’s evidence of him travelling as far and as wide and Britain! We don’t know what race he was because the world was more mixed than history rewrote it to be!
Presumably, he was Israeli, given that he was born in Israel to Jewish parents, and if he'd been born as a different race than his mother, that probably would've been considered noteworthy.
I don't want to slutshame, but when you have to misinform a bunch of people about a prominent religion just to make your high body count less of an issue, then I think you should rethink your life choices
I truly believe that it was never "don't have sex" but it was "be faithful to your partner." In other words, don't have multiple sexual partners at a time.
Premarital sex and chastity are two different things. It's not "don't have sex", it's "fully commit to someone before doing so", which is different from "don't have multiple sexual partners". Many people, especially in the old testament, were polygamous. King David, for example, was regarded to be a generally pious man, and, he had many wives.
Mary is pure though, completely pure and a mother. Mary was born as the immaculate conception, born to hold Jesus. Mary's mother, Saint Anne, couldn't bear children and God blessed her with Mary.
Catholics don't worship Mary, you idiot. I'm a Catholic and I am friends with hundreds of Catholic priests, theologians and seminarians and not one of them worship the Holy Mother. She's the Mother of Jesus Christ and the only reason pathetic sinners even have a chance salvation was because of her fiat of saying yes to being the Mother of Jesus Christ. You Protestants are ignorant about the value of the Holy Mother and the relationship with Jesus Christ.

"Ma'am this is a Wendy's"
And this is my two cents.
Thank you!!!
Well said love this
Nevertheless she is an icon, a justified reason that further encourages our society’s obsession for virginity.

Hey you are more than welcome to believe what you want. I am not trying to be rude or belittling, I just wanted to say the original text of the New Testament Bible is actual Greek. meaning it wasn’t translated from Hebrew to Greek, the word in question is παρθένος (parthenos). We know for certain this speaks of her virginity, because of not only context but the word itself expresses Virginity. If you don’t believe me you can search the word. Anyways you’re art is beautiful and I do hope the best for you.
That was so well said!
Well said.
Thank you 👏
👏👏👏
Exactly (4 months later this video blew up)
Thank you. This woman in the video is so ignorant.
Fun fact: purity of women was a standard even before Mary existence 💀
Yep.. bcs the men had to work there butts off to pay a dowry for his bride's future.

@@lizzybeka1864 it’s not scientific to take any religion for scientific purposes.. like what are you even talking about? The point is when the religion was made whether true or not the point was Mary was a virgin, that was done purposefully. It’s no more complicated than that.
@@lizzybeka1864no she’s not bruh read the actual part in the Bible that she claims she’s talking about and you can see that it’s a lie it not that hard.
For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."
So yes, Mary did have other children :)
For what I gathered the word for brother used was used a little more broadly.

@@Shadow1Yaz bro stay quiet
Bibles after 1946 say that "men who have sex with men will not inherit the Kingdom of God" but older versions and the original text says "abuse" instead of "have sex with."

I literally just consider anyone who hasn't had sex before a virgin. Not that it makes them pure or anything, just that they're a virgin and inexperienced when it comes to sex

* rants about virginity while whitewashing mary dispite the fact she was dark skinned *
Fun Fact: "Maiden", such as how you say the original Hebrew text called Mary, means "A woman who has not been touched by a man" touch being used as a synonym for sex. This is the original usage of "maiden". So yes, Mary was a virgin
Me who is a virgin by choice and not religion:"Guess I got a kink now"
This Greek word precisely means "virgin."
That being said, it is very clear that in Isaiah 7:14, the word almah = parthenos = virgin.
Whatever you do you can't bring Mary down from her pedestal, she's a miracle
YES. She is the queen of heaven no matter what…. Saying that she wasn’t a virgin is hugely disrespectful.
