Pro 2 ISS wind van, rain bucket, hydrometer with UV & Light, what 3rd device will I need to connect the two together? I don't like the cheaper all in one combination 👎. I like the Vue console idea of the luminous keypad and Pro 2 anemometer etc. It also may work out slightly cheaper using the Vue console? Although maybe the Pro2 console is more powerful and versatile, I don't know, you know their capabilities better than I? All in depth information most welcome and suggestions truly appreciated. Our rand is very weak against your dollar, so importing from the USA is a nightmare of extra expenses to secure it with tracking, it's another R1000 plus. Unfortunately, the Vue console doesn't look to have the ability to use any kind of logger. I don't have one myself, but it sounds like your only choice with that console is WeatherLink Live.
@@HoosierWeather Thanks Hoosier, It looks like one big money scam by these weather manufacturers, wunderground is not really free, and the only way is out is Wx Linux version, but you still need the weatherlink! Ambient ws2000 that auto connects to wifi and have their own free weather software, is the best choice so far me. It's just the nagging quality with Chinese goods that's noff putting! Otherwise I must go without saving data and use Davis as a daily monitoring device, and simply write down the data in a jotter pad or book, 😊😂👍 cheers good buddy. John. 🇿🇦
Nice video on Davis Instrument products! My dilemma is running an older model Vantage Pro with discontinued data logger (6555). Can't find any used loggers. The logger has finally quit and LED won't come on despite several attempts. Talking with Davis support, get a new VP2 and WLL is their recommendation. The downside with this: all my archived data from Weatherlink IP software going back to 2002 will not be functional w/ WLL. Meaning, I won't be able to export WLL data to my software on my computer so I can still view & graph historic data. Davis solution: upgrade to WL Pro subscription which will give me access to archive data, albeit not with use of my local archived data & existing software. I think they did say I could export TO but not from the cloud. Frustrating for long time customers that are forced into annual subscription to get my archive data! So question to Hoosier on your new VP2 (other video). Do you have computer on continuously to upload console data & if I order new VP2, is the current data logger you use (6510 USB I think?) compatible with the same software I used to review archive data as seen in your videos? Thanks for any suggestions and again, your videos are well made.
David.....I'm afraid I don't have any better recommendation for you. In a comment from yesterday, I dropped a couple of hints as to what my next video will cover.....and it will address your situation perfectly. Having your data in the cloud is a good thing on so many levels. You don't have to worry about backups or having a computer on all of the time to record observations. With a device like the 6555 (discontinued) or the 6100......you just plug in, configure, and let it run. The downside of that setup is exactly what you are running in to......you don't have control of your data. You are at the mercy of another provider to grant you access to data that is yours. You could pay for the subscription, export your data, and cancel the service when you are done. However, you must also consider how you are going to access your data and combine it with new observations going forward. These are topics that I cover in the next video (I am editing it right now). For my setup, I have a server that is on all of the time that runs a combination of WeatherLink Desktop and custom software. You are right, the logger that I use is the 6510 USB. It's a more complicated setup, but I own my data and have continuous access to it.

I ended up getting a new wireless VP2 and then adding the 6510 USB for ability to continue using my existing software to download my archived data. I am also getting the 6100 so I can leave my computer off and still have the system upload constant weather data. Damn pricey options given all I really needed was a new 6555 logger. But since those are obsolete, it's unavoidable. I have a cabled Vantage Pro, but now need the wireless VP2 for the 6100 to work. Davis products and support have been good over the years so it takes the sting away a bit. My existing console and station are still functional. Thanks again.
Nope. For my setup, I have the USB logger connected to a network USB hub. The server has software for the hub loaded so it is able to connect to the logger as if it were connected to the local bus.
I've just bought a Weatherlink Live. How do I get daily data onto my Windows Notebook PC or local cloud device? Preferably in a spreadsheet format. (To conserve space, I don't want to stream ALL the continuous data from my SSL)
Hi Brian. I've mentioned this as a reply to similar comments recently, but I am working on a video that addresses the subject of your comment specifically. It has been busy at work, but it will be soon. You do have a couple of options, but the potential solutions available to you are dependent on your WeatherLink Live subscription level. Of course, how often you upload your observations changes with this level from 15 minutes with the free tier, to up to 1 minute with the Pro+. With a Pro or Pro+ subscription, you can export your observations directly from the web portal. However, you are limited in the fact that it only exports as a CSV file. Does this fill your requirements? I have an application that I am developing, that you will see in the upcoming video, that allows you to do the same thing, but with an additional option. Let's say that you want to export those observations to the WeatherLink desktop software. With the WeatherLink Live portal, I've not found a way you can do this. I'm working on a feature that would allow you to export your data into a WLK format that would enable you to do this. I've posted a screenshot of this on Twitter. You can absolutely use both. The ISS just broadcasts out its data, you can have as many devices listening to that data as you like. Just for example, I have a WeatherLink Live and two consoles that I use for my station. If you want to know more about the WeatherLink Live, I will be dropping a video covering it by the end of the upcoming weekend.
Hello! I would like to ask you a question about the communication between the station and the watherlink website. It turns out that I bought the station (base + remote sensors) and it does not bring it to connect to the internet. The goal is to be able to view the data remotely, for example, by accessing the watherlink page from my home. To do this, the base must be connected to an ethernet port with internet access. Hi Gonzalo. If you purchased a WeatherLink Live (6100) you can either hard wire it or have it connect to a wireless network. During the provisioning process you can connect it to the WeatherLink cloud service and access your data from there. I had stepped away from this channel for a bit this year, but I do have a video that was almost complete covering the 6100 installation, including my likes/dislikes about the device. Hello Hossier I am lookimg for a datalogger capable to storage 30 days of data with a 10 minute interval. Any of the Davis dataloggers have this capacity. The station is goin to be away from any power source, computer or net (not wifi, GPRS, internet, etc). Can you advice to me any solution???. Thanks a lot JP
Good Evening JP. Let's start by answering your storage question directly. Both models of the 6510 data logger can store a total of 513 pages. If my math is right, at a 10 minute interval the storage capacity would be just under 18 days. With the WLL you can only configure it to do 1, 5, 15, 30, or 60 minute archive rates. At 5 minutes, it can store 1980 hours of data. Configured for 15 minutes, the storage time jumps to 5760 hours. That just answers the storage question. You mentioned some other requirements that, IMHO, are more problematic. The 6510 loggers do require the console, which from your message, would have to run on batteries...or perhaps a solar solution? Running on battery, the console could run up to around 9 months. The WLL will only run for a couple of weeks at most. Given the apparent remote location of the station, and other lack of connectivity, maybe a 6510 would work.

Indeed, that would be the WeatherLink Live (6100). That device has the ability to connect either with a wired Ethernet or wireless connection to the WeatherLink.com online service. I am sitting here putting the final touches on the next video covering the installation of a Tesla Wall Connector, but stay tuned. I have purchased a WeatherLink Live device and it was delivered last week. Immediately after the Wall Connector video, I am going to start working on a video covering the 6100. These are available in the wild and were intended to control things like enterprise routers and switches (cisco, dell, etc). Btw way, great vids, editing, everything. I wish I could double like.
I've come across a few people that have interfaced directly to the console without using the Davis data logger and it sounds darn cool. Not quite using a console cable like you are referring to though. I haven't gotten around to working with that yet, but I do plan to. Believe it or not, it is on my list of topics for future videos. This is a wild shot, but I got a new davis a couple years ago and now my old (10+ yrs) console and data logger (w/6510 usb) can't show temps below zero. Shows up as 164˚ instead. The new console is fine. Their support says nothing changed, but I'm guess something about the protocol (variable size?) slightly changed. Just looking for clues.
I have a very similar setup to the one you described. As you can see from the videos, I too recently replaced a 10+ yrs old Vantage Pro 2 system with a new system. I am also continuing to use both the new and old console without issue. Has this been going on with the old console from the first day you connected it to the newly installed station? Any other data displaying incorrectly? I would consider resetting the old console again, and if the problem persists, look at upgrading the firmware if you haven't already.

I've tried updating firmware, but it always fails. Thinking maybe ditch the old data logger, get a usb connector for new console to connect to computer, and maybe send in the old console to see if they'll update it.

Hi John. You can most certainly just use the console that came with the Weather Station. I believe it will still keep track of annual rainfall and daily statistics. You will unfortunately lose the ability to store the rest of the weather observational data without a data logger.

Ecowitt is turning out good quality to the point its accuracy is very close to Davis and you get color monitor, UV, and other accessories at fraction of the price of Davis. Unfortunately yes, it's Chinese but they aren't greedy and their stuff is a lot more 2020 tech than 1990s technology! Every review I read is the overpricing and plenty of failures. That not good if you are forking lots of money. I think I will go Ecowitt, they do sell a small color TFT 4.5 inch version that does not consume much space. Ambient is in fact using their products but branding it as Ambient. So if you wanted a larger screen, then you would have to purchase Ambient or purchase directly from Ecowitt in China. Many have attested to their support. Just some information I thought you know. Maybe you should try the Ecowitt out and compare? 😊 Shabbat Shalom John.
Absolutely. Keep in mind the ISS is broadcasting the data, and that the console and the WeatherLink live are just receiving this data. For my current setup, I am actually using two consoles and a WLL.
Good eye, it is. I've had that tower for seven years now. Our internet options were pretty much non-existent at that time, so this enabled us to link with a wireless provider that was close to us. Our neighbors benefit from this as well since we let that provider rebroadcast the signal from our tower.

Do you have the usb Logger connected to the Router?
Nope. For my setup, I have the USB logger connected to a network USB hub. The server has software for the hub loaded so it is able to connect to the logger as if it were connected to the local bus.

Hi Rick. Currently, the supported devices are the WeatherLink Live and the 6510 usb/serial data logger.
Can u use a vantage pro display and the iss that goes with it and using the weatherlink live
Absolutely. Keep in mind the ISS is broadcasting the data, and that the console and the WeatherLink live are just receiving this data. For my current setup, I am actually using two consoles and a WLL.

Are you wanting to delete partial data from a file, all of the data for a given station, or something else?

Good eye, it is. I've had that tower for seven years now. Our internet options were pretty much non-existent at that time, so this enabled us to link with a wireless provider that was close to us. Our neighbors benefit from this as well since we let that provider rebroadcast the signal from our tower.
I have the 72 foot version. Mine has a load of M2 antennas in it. The LP7&10-30, 6M7, 2m18XXX and 432 13 WL. All feed with 7/8.
