Great series Mike! I am doing exactly what you presented in this series. My old station was about 15 years old. With that station, I didn't have a console but just the data logger. This time I got a console. It's funny, during the video I thought, "this guy would make a good Ham" and was excited to find out that you are a Ham. For the data logger, that depends on your sample rate. I set my station to a one minute interval. If I remember correctly, the memory is full after almost a day and a half. If you connect the logger to a PC, it seems like a lot of work to disconnect/reconnect to get data.
I'm done with the set up but there exist a communication error when I try to look at it on the weatherlink software How do O fix this communication error
From the way your message is worded, I am going with the assumption that you are using a VP2 and the desktop software. In WeatherLink, goto Setup -> Communications Port. Ensure 'USB' is selected, and click 'Test'. Do you still receive a comm error? If you do, we should start with the basics. - Ensure the cable is properly seated on the console and the usb connection is secure. - Try a different USB port. Feel free to let me know how this goes.
Good Evening. I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to, but if you are referring to wx2sql and it's ability to import files into a DB, the answer is yes. There is a bug in the Java version in that it doesn't handle radiation and UV measurements. I am editing a video right now that covers the 6100 logger and in that video there will be some footage of the newer c# version. If I misread your comment, please feel free to clarify and I'll get back with you.

I see what you are asking now. Yes, in addition to the actual Vantage Pro 2 Plus station, you will need a way to record the observations. This can be done with a standard weather console/data logger and software to record the observations, or the 6100 Weather Link Live to take the observations and store them on the Davis WeatherLink Cloud service.
@@HoosierWeather Hey again ... By using the instruments shown in this video I can register the solar radiation ? But I must replace the vantage pro 2 by plus version ? Right ?

ID8. is still not updated. How can you help me? It's been 3 months of waiting and I even upgraded the application to Pro. If you can help it will be appreciated.
Good Evening, Sir. I'm happy to help with what I can. It sounds like you have been all over the place with the settings just trying to get this to work. Let's go back to basics. I would begin by setting all of the DIP switches to the down position to get the ISS back to ID1. In the app, set WLL to use ID1 again as well. I would then verify that the correct device type and appropriate sensors are selected, that would definitely cause some issues. Before going any further with suggestions, I'd like to verify those settings are correct. When I set up the WLL, it did take a few minutes for the observations to begin showing on the app, but they did show. Have you watched the most recent video I published? It is a review of the WLL. At 7:43 is where I talk about setting the transmitter IDs from within the app. This may help as well. Also, a pro subscription is not required for this to work, but I do understand that you were just trying things in an attempt to get things working. Feel free to let me know if any of this helps.

I have had a Vantage Pro for 18 yrs and thought it was time to add the Vantage Pro 2. I have my station mounted at the end of my roofline using Gable End mounting brackets (Home Depot) that will hold a 10' mast that I will attach both the weather station and anemometer to. Question I have is I want to run both the old and new stations (one on each end of the house). Do I need to put the weatherlink software on a second computer to track Station 2 separately with a different radio ID, or can the data be routed from both stations into a single computer? I think you left both your stations up and running, correct?
Hi Ron, I hope you are doing well. You can only have one ISS as the 'primary' station on a single console. If you wanted to pull all of the data from each station, you would have to use two consoles and two instances of WeatherLink. You definitely have it right that the two stations will have to be set to different transmitter IDs to avoid interfering with each other. You are right, in the videos, you see both of my stations. After the new station was up and running for a bit, I did pull down the old station. I will be using the console for the old station for some development work and that APRS project I have been wanting to get to. I will be pulling data for both consoles from the new station. Thank you for commenting and watching the video!

Hello again, quick question. I have a 60 minute service plan, does that mean I can only choose to archive data every 60minutes, or could u I choose to archive it more frequently, say every 15 minutes ? Thanks Niamh
Yep, you can set the archive interval to a few different values. For example, I have mine set to record observations every minute. You could also select 5, 10, 15, 30, 60, or 120 minutes. The more frequent you make this, the larger the wlk files will be and the quicker the memory on the console will fill up.
Hello, great series thank you. I got a Davis vantage pro 2, will be setting it up this week, I have installed software on my laptop already. So do I just go to install the wind station in my location as instructed. And once I come home I can access it through my weather link / software? The site is about 30mins from my home so just want to check in advance. Also it says to enter barometer elevation , should this be a very exact number of height of barometer above sea level ? Or can it be an approximation. Eg my site is about 13 ft above sea level, and the barometer would probably be 16/17ft above sea level. Thanks so much. As a PhD student your videos are so helpful as I find it easier to learn by watching videos . I followed your other video to install the software,
Good Evening. I absolutely love the fact that you found the videos helpful, that is exactly why I started to make these videos. Installing the anemometer at the recommended height can be difficult, if not impossible, if you don't have anything on which to mount the sensor. Getting it to the correct height for meteorological observations would be best, but I had mine mounted to the top of my ISS mounting pole for years just because I didn't have a better way to do it. Also, setting the elevation of the station of the station to the 'best guess; that you can is the best that most of us can do. You mentioned that the install location is about 30 minutes away from your home. It sounds like you will be leaving the laptop there and will have some sort of connectivity to it. Is that right?
@@HoosierWeather thank you so much for the reply! I will have my laptop at home but I have the vantage connect which I believe transmits data online for me to access. Would that be correct ? Thanks
@@niamhodonoghue112 Old thread, but I had the same mistaken assumption that when Davis says "wireless" they were talking about wireless Ethernet (aka WiFi). The console and Vantage box both use 900mhz frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) wireless to communicate with the ISS, the same method as wireless phones use, not Ethernet. Suggest looking at something like WeeWx running on ARM hardware, like a Rasberry Pi to be able to get at the data via wireless Ethernet, connecting the Vantage box to the Pi via Davis' USB data logger.
Let's start with the basics. - Verify that the solar panel is plugged in correctly on the ISS. - Also verify that the battery is installed correctly on the ISS. - Is your console in range of the ISS? With fresh batteries in the console, take the console to the ISS and see if it will begin receiving data/ - Did you change the DIP switch settings on the ISS? If so, and you a0re not avoiding conflict with another station, make sure these are set to default(consult the documentation for the settings) - Check the settings on the console, make sure they are correct. you can refer to my video series, or the product documentation. These are the first steps in troubleshooting. Always look for the simple causes first.
The 6100 was indeed available at the time of the video, but it did not meet my needs. I covered the 6100 in a follow-up video. ua-cam.com/video/GBVb5r0PDVc/v-deo.html
I have not written a script to do this, but it would be rather trivial to do so. I have written an application that pulls data from the WeatherLink API and exports a sensor summary and observational details into an xlsx file. This is a .Net app that I will be releasing soon. Take a look at the API docs here: weatherlink.github.io/v2-api/
I just finished all 3 episodes, great job. I have had a vantage vue for almost a decade on one property and a vantage pro2 for 2 years on another. I too remotely mounted my anemometer after seeing how little wind there is on the ground. I ended up putting it on top of a 10ft mast on the eve of a 25ft barn. I decided to run the wire down the side of the barn and put the transmitter at a much more manageable height so I can replace the battery as needed without having to climb to the anemometer (hopefully) ever again. The only difference we have in ISS is you have a weighted spoon rain gauge just like my vantage vue. My pro2 has a teeter totter metal spoon system. I guess yours is the newer version but I am unclear on why they went with a weighted spoon over the teeter totter spoon. One last thing I'll say regarding the rain gauge. You may want to consider sawing off the mounting pipe just above the U-bolts because the way it is now will affect how much rain gets in the bucket, especially if the wind is coming from the direction that the pipe is relative to the bucket. I hope this station lasts you another decade+!
Thank you for your kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video series. I've thought about the differences in the spoon design, and I can see a couple of advantages to the single spoon. The most obvious being that it would avoid any issues with the two spoon design being unbalanced in some way. I believe it will be better, but time will tell. I too had the thought of trimming down the mounting pole so it would not interfere with precip coming from that direction. It is on my list. :)
@@dishymcflatface the weird thing is my vantage Vue from 2010 or older has a single spoon but my pro2 from 2018 had the teeter totter. it has the updated cone with spikes tho so I'm baffled
As you mentioned, the 6510 loggers come in two flavors, USB and Serial. Functionally, both types are the same, and once configured, work with the WeatherLink software in nearly the same way. The USB logger is easier to configure, and nearly every PC has USB ports. So unless your computer has an available serial port and you just want to use it, I'm not sure why you would choose serial. Going USB also gives you some options for physically locating the console away from your computer and having it perform like it is directly connected. Stay tuned for an upcoming video in which I will discuss this.
@@HoosierWeather I've have had a Davis instrument before there was USB I believe and my old computer was serial with no choice of the USB, so that's why I ask. I have Serial now and have ordered a USB logger to replace and test that version with a new computer as well. Just time to upgrade.
Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed the video. Diagnosis is difficult without any information about your setup. I would start with some basic troubleshooting. When did the problem start? Have there been any recent changes to your setup? Hardware? Software Updates?
Well, I'm happy to try, your post is lacking some in detail though. What program are you using to collect the weather data? Are you receiving any data into your application? It would also help to know when/where you are receiving the error.

Greetings! Davis has this FAQ on their website, hopefully this helps if it is the WeatherLink software that you are looking for. support.davisinstruments.com/article/jx2enjb4ls-how-to-update-or-download-weather-link-computer-software
Yes, there are a couple of ways you can do this. If you are using WeatherLink Live, you can configure it to send data to CWOP, Weather Underground, and/or GLOBE. If you are using the WeatherLink software on a Mac or PC, there is a software expansion module that you can load to do this.
Before making changes like that, I would start with more basic troubleshooting. Since I don't know your weather station model, or the sensors you have, there are some unknowns. - Are you using a Weather Console? If so, is that console displaying readings from the other sensors you may have? - Are you using a VP2? On the ISS, are the sensors plugged in? Are the sensors making a good connection? Is it possible the connections are corroded? - Also, here are some more basic troubleshooting questions. When did the problem start? Is there anything that you know of that could have happened at that time?

was the 6100 live not available at the time of video?
The 6100 was indeed available at the time of the video, but it did not meet my needs. I covered the 6100 in a follow-up video.

Did the roof peak cause variations in wind speed and direction?
None that I have noticed. I stayed with Davis specs which called for the sensor to be 7ft above the roof line.
Is there a way (script) to automatically download the weatherlink data to a txt file?
I’ve seen that you can buy the weighted spoon separately as a replacement for the teeter totter
@@dishymcflatface the weird thing is my vantage Vue from 2010 or older has a single spoon but my pro2 from 2018 had the teeter totter. it has the updated cone with spikes tho so I'm baffled
What are the advantages if any of using the USB data logger versus the Serial logger. Ports are a pain.

Hello, very good video. Thank you.
I get that there was an error in the connection. How can you fix that? I have the vantage pro 2 model
Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed the video.
Diagnosis is difficult without any information about your setup. I would start with some basic troubleshooting.
When did the problem start?
Have there been any recent changes to your setup? Hardware? Software Updates?
Error in CP210x_GetDeviceSerialNumber()- Vantage Vue.can you help me?
Well, I'm happy to try, your post is lacking some in detail though. What program are you using to collect the weather data? Are you receiving any data into your application? It would also help to know when/where you are receiving the error.

Great video, thanks a lot!
Glad you liked it.
thanks for producing and posting.
My pleasure.
Great Job
how i can install the software?
Good Morning. Are you referring to WeatherLink or wx2sql?
good !
Hello
Thank you i did really enjoyed your video. I have problem downloading the software , i went to their site and i found that I have to put it in the cart tho it says free , so i pressed on the add to cart and nothing happens . Can you help me please thank you in advance
Greetings! Davis has this FAQ on their website, hopefully this helps if it is the WeatherLink software that you are looking for.
support.davisinstruments.com/article/jx2enjb4ls-how-to-update-or-download-weather-link-computer-software
Can you upload the date to weather underground?
Yes, there are a couple of ways you can do this. If you are using WeatherLink Live, you can configure it to send data to CWOP, Weather Underground, and/or GLOBE. If you are using the WeatherLink software on a Mac or PC, there is a software expansion module that you can load to do this.
Thanks
Please subscribe and like this video for this man He is doing a good
What happened to it? Threw it away..probably?
The old station? I kept it around for testing and development.
If finished with it. I am old retired guy looking for something to occupy time with. Willing to get rid of it?
My weatherlink software just reading temperature and barometer. Should I re-install the software?
Before making changes like that, I would start with more basic troubleshooting. Since I don't know your weather station model, or the sensors you have, there are some unknowns.
- Are you using a Weather Console? If so, is that console displaying readings from the other sensors you may have?
- Are you using a VP2? On the ISS, are the sensors plugged in? Are the sensors making a good connection? Is it possible the connections are corroded?
- Also, here are some more basic troubleshooting questions. When did the problem start? Is there anything that you know of that could have happened at that time?
Hoosier Weather Thank you thank you very much for the reply, l was email the Davis customer service but they didn’t respond yet.
I’m using Davis vantage pro2 plus, I don’t know when the problem start but when I checked the software it was just reading temperature and barometer. Then I tried to setting the console but the problem still the same. This is my first time i’m using Davis weather station and I don’t have any idea to fix it. Should I updating the software?
once again thank you very much
Davis is generally fairly quick to respond to questions through their support address. However, I sent a product inquiry to that address about 2 days ago and haven't gotten a response. For you, I would expect a response early next week (given past experience).
Back to your issue. I would resist such a change until you've identified the original problem. You don't want to change too many variables and potentially break something else.
You mentioned that you tried "setting the console", do you mean RESETTING the console? Let's stay with the console for the moment. On the console itself, do you see humidity or wind readings there?
