    I would love to see you do a review for Express VPN and Nord VPN.

    • @carlangelo653
      @carlangelo653 4 роки тому +47

      Express VPN is pretty ok, I've used it both pc and phone and it's worked really well for me. It's low latency and fast, fast enough to comfortably game on.
      I used it to bypass our school wifi restrictions and it worked good for that too.

    • @anbk6376
      @anbk6376 4 роки тому +35

      I'm using ExpressVPN in China and it works very well both on my phone and computer. At least for most of the time, which is REALLY OK given the issues with Chinese Internet censorship (outside of China, when I was back in Europe, it was working perfectly all the time). What's important to me, Netflix does not detect it (which is a problem with many other vpn apps). Haven't tried the NordVPN though. From what I've seen, many foreigners in China tend to choose either ExpressVPN or Astrill.

    • @vestigials
      @vestigials 4 роки тому +44

      NordVPN has shady business practices and shady marketing practices (codes give you a 1 month discount ONLY - if you visit the site right now without an affiliate link it'll show you that there's 9 hours and 40 minutes left for you to save when it's really year-round which is ). Not to mention you get much slower internet speeds with NordVPN. Can't say anything as to whether either of them are honest in their claims that they don't keep logs (same can be said for all VPN providers). Avoid NordVPN unless you're desperate to give your favorite UA-camr a few cents. NordVPN has a lot more servers and is cheaper but that's about all it has going for it.
      I personally use TorGuard (you get 50% off if you look around for a code). It's $6 per month (for 6 months) for the streaming bundle which is cheaper than the equivalent options for NordVPN and ExpressVPN. I trust them more, but that's more-so based on the level of anonymity they want to provide (e.g. in payment) and the customization options the VPN provides.
      I wouldn't recommend getting more than 6 months to a year as you should be constantly re-evaluating your choice - especially if your VPN provider turns out to be non-trustworthy and you're locked into (for NordVPN) 2 and a half more years without having to pay cancellation fees.

    • @carlangelo653
      @carlangelo653 4 роки тому +29

      @@vestigials I'd recommend not buying more than 6 months, these VPNs change their policies all the time and you might want out sooner than you think.
      e.g. I paid a year's worth for a tunnel bear subscription. Ended up only using it for 4 months because it was unBEARably slow (pardon the pun) and a few weeks later after I stopped using it, it was acquired by McAfee.

    I see everyone saying it doesn't work in the US or that they haven't saved s**t even when they live in the US. I, personally live in the US and have saved roughly $80-$100 over the past year of having it. I usually buy stuff off Amazon (a lot of the time it's PC parts or the occasional odd item) and I personally haven't had any issues with Amazon being funky or coupons being slow. If you're not in the US or it hasn't been effective for you then I completely understand, but in my case its saved me a lot so I thought I'd get my experience out there.

      I also use others like Firefox (primary), Chrome, Vivaldi, and I say Edge is definitely far from slow or sluggish. It's absolutely not IE. In fact, I found Chrome to be more clunky and less intuitive than the others in recent times. Edge even have more intuitive interface than Chrome.

      The real problem with Honey is not whether it saves you money or not. You can save the same amount of money without it by just doing a little digging. The real problem with Honey is the abuse of referral links. Honey gets money whether you save anything or not, because by having it installed, they get referral credit for anything you buy, on any website that they have a referral link on. This is how Honey makes money.
      By abusing referral links, they're incentivizing companies to pay less per individual referral, because they are getting referrals by default. If you actually want to support creators like those here on UA-cam who generate some revenue through referral links, don't use Honey.
      It's also worth noting that if you have an Amazon referral link, you can see everything that a person bought after clicking on that link. It doesn't matter if they bought the item from the referral link or not, they get referral credit for anything you buy after you clicked, right up until you've closed your browser. So at least in the case of Amazon, Honey has direct access to everyone's purchases every time they've bought something with the browser extension installed. I'm sure other site referral links probably work the same way.

    A friend of mine runs an online store. He saw the ads and looked into Honey to see if maybe it would bring more customers.
    He then realized something.
    To add his coupon codes, he had to sign up to pay them. Thus, he would be discounting the item AND giving away some of the profits. In other words, he would be taking something he makes little profit on, discounting it to even less profit and then giving away more of the profit... and for some items, that could easily go beyond the profit into losing money.
    What really make it a worse investment is that it doesn't bring in customers. The intent of it is that people do their normal shopping and then IF they land on a site that it works for then it applies.
    Based on that, he chose to continue just running normal sales and either straight up discounting or displaying the coupon code on his website (some brands he carries require discounts be done by coupon code only).

      @DaveSmith-cp5kj 3 роки тому +9

      The expensive tripods are worth it though, because they basically protect your camera that is worth more. I use tripods for precision rifle shooting work, and I paid $250 on mine, which is on the cheaper scale of the good tripods (Manfrotto Ball release style). No way I would trust a crummy chinese tripod to hold a camera, let alone a rifle.

    • @Monitice
      @Monitice 3 роки тому +2

      @@DaveSmith-cp5kj But is that truly how much they are worth though. Little did you know they've could've set a way higher price, and let the chinese knock off do the rest of them and market "lower prices" for a tripod, something you'd find from a knockoff chinese brand company.

    • @DaveSmith-cp5kj
      @DaveSmith-cp5kj 3 роки тому +1

      @@Monitice Chinese products are cheap only if they are of low quality in some aspect. When you produce equal quality to brand names, the cost comes out to basically the same. While Chinese labor is cheaper, cost of doing business in China is far more expensive than a first world country because of the government regulations (for example, all foreign businesses in China are required to be half co owned by a Chinese citizen so the government has leverage over the business). This is why crummy stuff comes from China, because if you want to produce high quality products, it is actually cheaper to do that in places like America, Canada, or the EU countries, where independent ownership of assets can be done.
      Of course, the exception is when you get to proprietary products. It is cheap to produce those in China because they are basically black market goods, violating the IP laws of the original producer's country. However, even then Chinese copies are not always up to par with the original manufacturer.
      And the other factor is most people typically do not need the top end equipment. Most people are buying stuff for hobby or one time use rather than a professional situation, so a disposable item is sufficient.

    I think when you review any browser extension critically, you should also address the privacy concerns.
    Browser extensions can know A LOT about your browsing history and preferences and can do A LOT with the web pages you browse.
    I believe Honey doesn't actually modify web pages content (while generally browser extensions totally can) since it works solely through it's popup page.
    But I'm also pretty sure it collects statistics of all the product listings you've seen and all the products you purchased, most likely even if you didn't use any honey-provided coupons.

Honey is collecting your purchasing data and compiling a profile on you and other shoppers, which is very valuable to companies. Partially they are getting commission because companies don't like selling through Amazon if they can avoid it, but the other part is that this allows them to build better consumer profiles. I prefer not to use Honey or other auto saving plugins because I try to keep a minimized profile on the internet, especially when it comes to purchasing history. My best experience with honey by far was trying to find my mother a pair of sneakers during Black Friday. All I did was open several tabs of common sneaker retailers, run honey on them, and find all the sites with the best coupon deals. Honey really helps me out here as many sneaker retailers support honey. My outcome ended up being $96 for $180 shoes by taking the price from Macy’s and price matching it with Dick’s Sporting Goods with a 25% off coupon found by honey + my mom’s 15% off military discount. Honey is very situational but for my use, it has been really effective, especially during Black Friday. In fact, there was once a leaked Sennheiser 40% off coupon for Best Buy employees and Honey actually had it 12 days before it leaked! I ended up buying $100 earbuds for only $60 which I still use and love to this day.

    Nice vid.
    I'm from the UK - our discounts here are pretty awful in general. As a result I would say Honey is pretty useless here. My dad tried it for a bit but the savings were rubbish.

    The thing you didn’t talk about is privacy. There will have been a reason PayPal bought Honey, and it’s not for some 1-5% commission on purchases. I don’t have honey installed, but would be curious to see what data they have about their users. Then do they try different codes on different people? Like if you buy something regularly (like groceries) would they give you a code for less % off so they make some extra commission? Or give you gold instead of a code? I’m not saying this with some certainty, but I know they have data that can predict if you are likely to make purchases or not from sites. And if you think that this is unlikely, remember that airlines adjust their prices based on your behaviour on their site.

    I've had honey for a year and I've not once seen a discount.
    For a while I even thought I had it deactivated because nothing was happening.

    You should try out purple pillows/mattresses next. I’ve been looking at getting a new pillow and they seem pretty cool in the ads, but I wanna know if they actually hold up.

    In CIS we got the same apps, but made in a lil bit different way. They called a cash-back plugins (lety shops, megabonus and etc) so they earn by the same way, earn on a commission from your purchase. Now it's time for a bunch of but-s.
    1.But the cash-back percent is just around 1-5%.
    2.But you need to wait till you will receive your parcel that means 1 week-3 months only after that you will be able to transfer your pounds.
    -But there another couple but-s left, its not all yet.
    3. Naturally there is a threshold of the minimum 50$
    4. and the last but/naturally, however - they got 10% withdrawal fee and another 5-10% fee depending on what kind of transaction you choose.
    In comparing honey looks better that plug-ins that I named, just because you're getting an instant discount.
