Why aren't you like considered among the greats...you are phenomenal....I've been watching your videos like forever and I always was asking myself why isn't he like on every tv screen and mag. well that's not what everyone needs, but yea you deserve it!!!! Lot2learn
I didn't use the music when I did this video, I've heard this song a lot, never played it, so I figured it was about time. In preparation for the video, I just started playing the song by ear (from memory) and didn't realize until I was all done recording the video that I'd done the song 1/2 step off from the original key. - Roger
beautifully performed a lesson well displayed and played thank you for this...im still chilled by the sheer display of non flashy playing and sweet how you left it open for anyone does play to come and jam and improvise...love it..
Hi Roger, your videos are a great source for understanding the chords and the impro lines. There is a huge amount of material usefull in many situation. Tnx for your work.
I am sure you have heard this before, but I really love your approach and I would listen to you all day. Whenever I hear your music I can't focus on what I am doing. Your music is just so moving. You are an inspiration. I could write a book of encouraging comments, but just keep blessing people with your gift. I hope to adopt this approach to playing so I will continue to follow your work.
Man, I have watched this vid for like 40 times and it's still amazing to see and hear how you vary these melodic minor scales and other great tunes mixed with your own creativity. I can say one thing: Tutorials! :D
Love your left hand comps to your right hand, nicely played chords at just the right time! I haven't heard you do much Corea stuff. One of my favourites of his is Armando's Rhumba, maybe next on the list for you!
If you were in India ( where im a performing pianist ) , you'd almost be worshipped and greeted with garlands after every concert !!!! Beautiful , and inspiring -Harsha
Thanks a lot! Learnt a lot from this. Also purchased your full 'Spain' combo from your website. Many thanks and look forward to learning a lot more from you! :)
@Bluesnowman101 The analysis will be at a later date - I am working on a DVD release with improvisational techniques and will breakdown different tunes including this one.
Kinda funny...I never could get my head around that typical thing that Chick does, similar to the run on 2:27 but after hearing this and playing to the backing track I got it in one shot. And it's not even the same thing you do! So happy I finally figured it out. I feel extra silly too because it's actually ridiculously simple, though I know there are more advanced ones he does that use more material.
Great Stuff Roger! It seamed a golden Chick feeling of rhythm, I love that brazilian drumming and the way you improvise. Just Subscribed, hopefully you post some evans' tune too. Fabio Evans
Great Roger, it's a beautiful idea to transpose in other key, it's a way to learn better the tune, thanks for the lesson :) I love the ending too! ciao!
As always, great video! Had a quick question: how do you get that overhead view of the piano? Im using a flip camera that I attach to a microphone stand haha. It works okay, but your camera angle is always a dead-on birds eye view! how do you manage it?
@fedalxis One day I sat down and started to play this song (without music) and that's the key (AbMajor) I started to play it in. I guess my pitch was 1/2 step off from where it was originally written.
Half step higher? Nice practice! Here in Spain some people like to play phrygian dominant (T,b2 3 4 5 b6 b7) over the altered dominants of this tune to "flamenco up" the changes
Great playing and your right changes are straight forward the notes almost just fall into place. It helps to have Chicks palette to work with but gotta start somewhere. I never did like the original key anyway #s dont like me too well..........Always a work in progress.
Great stuff!! Playing in a different key doesn't make any difference to the quality of improvisation and the musical concept underneath!! You've done a great job!
Thank you very much for your immediate answer :) I'm self-taught too but I had difficulties with my fingering so I decided to search it. I'm trying to learn them with 5-3-2-1 but the transition was the most difficult thing I had to do in my life :)I did it for all kinds of chords. I was playing them with 5-4-2-1... So you use 5-3-2-1 or 5-4-2-1 for m7 chords? Just a tip would be useful. Thanks again for answering
Good stuff ;) I've been searching all over the web for a proper fingering on m7 chords for the right hand. What's your opinion? Do you use 5-3-2-1 or 5-4-2-1? Thank you for your time...
man, you solo fantastically but I was really hoping for the original key. I amaze even myself when i play it in this key, but suddenly i forget everything I've ever known when i have to deal with 2-5's in bm etc. lol. Great job nonetheless. Thanks for your work.
You have an amazing presentation. But do you have a SLOWER version of this? Love to learn your passages but you need to present it in slow and understable format. thanks.
Hello Roger by Giovanni, I play jazz for fun on electric piano or Hammond c3, How to get the backing track bass and drum ? What I have to do? To create it with Ableton on other, or exist a mp3 or other, many thanks and greetings from Naples
To Roger: I hope I don't sound like a dumb ass, but what is a MIDI file, how is it used, and how does one play along with it? Are the drums and bass synthetic in this Corea piece or are they real players? Great piece!
After seeing your video I Succeded in recording my version of this wonderful Composition by Chick Corea. I used a couple of your transcribed voicing, but in original key and with real musicians (drummer, bass, trumpeter and me also as Sax player). Great Work Roger! Thanks for your availability. I'd be curious about your opinion on my work…Fabio Evans

Thanks for your comment Daniel, it is greatly appreciated!
Yes. Why in C minor...?!
I didn't use the music when I did this video, I've heard this song a lot, never played it, so I figured it was about time. In preparation for the video, I just started playing the song by ear (from memory) and didn't realize until I was all done recording the video that I'd done the song 1/2 step off from the original key.

Yeah that's whack bro
JDizzle69 I don’t think he is being honest, he just plays comfortable in Cm Lol
@@sinethembayantolo I never feeled that B minor is more difficult than C minor. Both keys are very friendly. Where i suffered a lot is Ab minor.
beautifully performed a lesson well displayed and played thank you for this...im still chilled by the sheer display of non flashy playing and sweet how you left it open for anyone does play to come and jam and improvise...love it..

Heard this piece not too long but have fallen in love with it.
Hope to be able to express myself like you did.
Great work done
Thank you so much Roger ! Chick's music is haunting me. Spain is differently played each time when Chick is on stage. Just waaaaw : )
Superb! Love to hear this again but on piano..
I honestly watch your videos almost everyday. That makes you one of my inspirations! hehe. Great stuff!
Thank you for your comment, it is greatly appreciated!
I appreciate your comment. I enjoy playing it in this key much more than the original.
I greatly appreciate your comment - thanks!
Tight! Those first eight bars kill! This is a challenging song to play and you dominate it all the way through. Fantastic!
Fantastic playing! One of my favourite jazz tunes of all time.
You are amazing!!! Love it!! I hope to be able to play like this soon!!!!
If you were in India ( where im a performing pianist ) , you'd almost be worshipped and greeted with garlands after every concert !!!! Beautiful , and inspiring -Harsha

I'm so glad you used this key, this is the key my Bands version of Spain has and I need to solo so thank you

You're amazing!
I don't really know proper fingering as I am mainly self-taught. I just do what works for me.
scales and arpeggios
Outstanding! How long have you been playing for?
VERY GOOD!!!
Woooow
You have an amazing presentation. But do you have a SLOWER version of this? Love to learn your passages but you need to present it in slow and understable format. thanks.

Thanks - yeah I ended-up playing it from memory by ear and I was in a different key than the original version.

Greetings Giovanni! I believe the backing track is available on my website at Lot2Learn. Please let me know if you can't find it. Regards, Roger.
