Love watching your videos. At first it took me a while to process the info because it flies so fast. But now I can understand what you are saying with ease. Thanks for sharing your knowledge here
Got the tension and release part, cool. Still wondering why you'd choose A Maj pentatonic over any other key's pentatonic. Because the song sorta centers around A Min and you're going back there, so you choose the major version of the "target' chord? Or is it a third thing (Am->Cm->Amaj)? Or totally random and any key would work? I want to apply that sound and at the moment of choice it would be helpful to know the concept involved. thanks again man.
Amin pentatonic - contains notes in the key of the current chord. C Min pentatonic - chord played is basically a C-7 sus7 therefore all notes of cmin pentatonic fit. The AMaj pent is an "outside" the tonality scale. The ear is somewhat fooled and says - Pentatonic 1 = inside then Pentatonic 2 = inside now Pentatonic 3 = outside but STILL pentatonic so because I set up the inside pentatonic pattern inside twice the third time still sounds OK even though it is outside the tonality. Get it?
Question: At about :35 you improv a line from Amin pent to Cmin pent then to Amaj pent. Why those particular intervals? Theory-talk ok. Hey, this is the way the original jazz cats learned, listening, watching, "talking" about it (annotations now). Thanks much, and please keep it up. thanks, Altered Dominant
Do you know where I could potentially get or download backing tracks to play along to that are smiler to this? oh and thanks for your time with all these videos :) you really are an incredible player and teacher, I always love steaming through your vids and 7notemodes.
Awesome video and concept! Which software do you use to display the midi output on the keyboard at the top? And how do you manage to make a video with the MIDI graphical output and audio output synchronized? You are a very good improviser and your videos are really inspiring, thanks for sharing!
