I really don't know what to say or how to thank you for giving so generously such a great knowledge of jazz vocabulary. You give all that for free. That's so honorable of you. God bless you. Aziz
Best I've seen on UA-cam. Your playing, instruction and comments are great. You're an amazing musician with an obvious gift for teaching and I appreciate it. Thank you for posting your videos and sharing your talent! Steve
Every time I play this song I am completely baffled as to what I can do for an improv over the changes. Thanks to this video, I can "borrow" some awesome solo ideas! Thanks a bunch!
Brilliant work mate!! Love from Australia, Immensely beneficial tutorial, I love those whole half lines. Such beautiful phrasing too! I learn a lot from your videos! Keep doing the awesome job!
I appreciate your comment. I also prefer to have the "performance view" of my hands shown during my playing. Unfortunately, I did not have the video camera set-up when I did this performance and my time to devote to creating these videos has been very limited lately, so I went with what I had. ;-)
Lot2learn personally, I like seeing the sheet music that you are showing here. It's easier for me to see what you're doing. I like the added text too. Thanks!
Alan - The chart above the keyboard is what is contained in the PDF file. It is generated from a MIDI file of my playing. The MIDI file is for people who do not read the music as well and want to learn by ear or by seeing it played on an on-screen keyboard (like the one in the video) as with a MIDI file you can slow the playing down to a very, very slow speed. - Roger
Thanks Roger for this lesson, I like so much the movement of the inner voices in the chords... the progression FMaj7 G7#11 reminds me 'Desafinado', other beautiful Jobim song :) great job!
I like this concept of tension. More of that please. I got all the scales and theory in college jazz orchestra, but they never once went over tension. Hell, I got yelled at for adding it. Didn't help much that the professor was a 90 year old remnant of the Benny Goodman era (which itself was nice, but styles have changed since the 1940s).
While a performance would be very interesting to watch, I subscribed to this channel because time and effort was taken show and teach us some of the tricks and guidelines in these performances from a theory perspective. If we watched a live performance it'd be a bit more difficult to learn this way.
I'm really enjoying the materials you've posted on UA-cam and what you have on your web site. I'm a bit confused, though, about what the PDF and MIDI files you're selling contain. Is the chart above the keyboard here the MIDI? Sorry I'm so computer-illiterate, and thanks in advance for the clarification.
Hi Roger, how are you? I've searched through the comments on here but haven't seen the answer - could you tell me what software you used for the scrolling score? Thanks, Tom
I read a lot about people suggesting to use the Lydian Dominant/Mixolydian #11 over the second chord of the verse (G7). I don't get where they get the #11 from. I even found a book that said to only use the #11 scale without explaining it. The melody doesn't have a #11, does it?. Why not use the regular Mixolydian instead? Can anyone explain?

Roger - you've done it again. Wonderful playing - love those long lines of 16th notes. So much to learn here.

You took this to a new level of consciousness, only few people orbit in that stratosphere, not me! Just amazing !
Your comment is greatly appreciated, thank you!

ottima esecuzione di un brano musicale molto conosciuto
Thanks for the wonderful display. I loved the "edginess" of the piano tone.
Now, I'm off the work to convert your work to guitar.
Thanks.
Amazing Song

Beautiful! Too hard to play it myself, I'll just keep listening to it :D

this is great
Like your idea on the opening chord, as you add the flat 5 of g 7th & w/ the f rt. the chord is rootless.

lovely! - slow it down a bit for us to see the notes - thank you
+Hiranya Wick Thanks. I think you can click the gear in the lower right corner of the scfreen and choose a speed to slow the video.
I don't think that works on a tablet--it doesn't for me.
Hi Sir Lot2learn, do you have any private website that I could refer to? or do you offer any private course? via skype
