    Absolutely the BEST BEST BEST Video that actually worked to give me a solid 40 to 60 fps and it is the smoothest ever! That you so so so much, I watched so many other videos and no one address the most important issues that was the Monitor refresh rate and the setting in nvidia. Anyone watching this is the only video that work!!!!!!

    I kinda feel that a lot of users here are just not quite getting that we are trying to smooth the FPS out, not get more fps at the expense of choppiness. I've been programming graphics for many yrs and it looks like you're on the right track!
    It's very much like cinema. We enjoy watching film at 24 fps but if you start dropping a frame here or there, you will really notice that. Same thing applies here. Thanks!!!

      That is exactly what i tried to explain. Its not about amount ofFPS but visual smoothness. Thank you 👍🏼
      "Low" 30FPS stable will be smoother than 30-50FPS fluctuating. :)

    Thank you for this video. I have been wondering about small microstutters often observed in cockpit when panning views at take off on my PC. I had VSync on at 60 in game but limited my FPS to 40 in NVidia control centre so as to not max out the GPU. Overall quite smooth, but with a few micro stutters panning views on takeoff in dense airports. I was very skeptical about switching to a VSync of 30, but I watched your video, changed to the Nvidia settings you recommended and set VSync to 30 and the fluidity of the panned views is amazing now. So a big thank you. Not many people seem to grasp that smoothness in FS isn't related to purely FPS. I also suspect many XBox users who are reporting stutters could be seeing them because they picked 120Hz as their refresh rate simply because it was there and a big number and their TV supports big numbers and bigger numbers have to be better right?

    Hi, really useful video thanks. I was having tearing issues and this fixed it. But had an issue with one of your recommendations. I set my TV refresh rate to 30Hz as suggested but in the sim the frame rate was reduced to 15FPS. So I had to increase it back up to 60Hz. All other settings were as you suggested, including Vsynch in the sim and capped to 30FPS. I have a 1080Ti and 4k 120Hz TV.

    Thanks for this, giving this a try. MSFS seems to have a strange behaviour when it comes to the V-Sync/limit option. It seems if I set my monitor to 30hz and in game to limit 30fps, it gives me 15 fps. And 30hz / 60fps in game gives me 30fps, also 60hz / 30fps in game acts as expected - 30fps. It's like the frame rate limit only knows how to behave properly if you have 60hz refresh rate, anything above or below that it kind of works as a limiter by a percentage and not an actual FPS value.

    • @PilotPete
      @PilotPete  3 роки тому +2

      Yeah, it looks like multiple users have this problem, not me tho. However, the workaround is to not use ingame vsync but force vsync in Nvidia control panel. Youcan use "Adaptive vsync (half refreshrate)" for example. Or fast vsync, you have to experiment what works best for you. :)

    • @BobbyFuzzy
      @BobbyFuzzy 3 роки тому

      @@PilotPete Strange isn't it! In the end I ended up getting g-sync to work and also forced fast v-sync which I'm going to test for now. Appreciate your video and the great explanations!

    • @DanBirasi
      @DanBirasi 2 роки тому

      It's a MSFS Vsync thing. Long Story short: if you set VSYNC to 30 it is HALVING your monitors FPS (MS thinks 60 is still the standard). So if you limit your monitors FPS to let's say 50 and in MSFS you choose Vsync 30, you will end up with 25 FPS. Stupid, but it is what it is.

    • @BobbyFuzzy
      @BobbyFuzzy 2 роки тому

      @@DanBirasi Strange isn't it! However I have recently starting using the sim on another monitor which seems to work as expected 60fps limit/Vsync in game/60hz gives 60fps output. The only difference here is that monitor is 1440p vs 1080p.

      Hey Predrag! Yeah, i have HAGS (Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling) on and also Win10 Game-Mode. However. I tested with both on and off and i cant really measure a difference. I heard that with VR there was an issue that HAGS will cause stutters. But so far with a normal monitor, i cant really see a difference.
      Maybe ill do a more indepth performance-test in the future where i compare every Nvidia-Setting, Game-Moden and HAGS in more detail. But with a good CPU and GPU i dont think there is a big impact to be honest.

      @PilotPete  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Mark! Renderscalin in the game menu? At 100% it will render the game at your native resolution. When you need more performance you can reduce it below 100% but it will lower the resolution the game gets rendered at. So it might be a bit more blurry. Id not go below 80-90%. If you increase it above 100% it will be sharper but will reduce performance. Id say leave it at 100% unless you really need more performance. :)

    Thank you for that video.
    Obviously we cannot see your screen tearing, as we don’t sit next to you watching the scene Inside your monitor 😇
    But I highly recommend you use your G Sync. I saw your answer to a suggestion like this before, where you said you don’t manage to get it to work. I can say, I never had trouble with it. All you need to do is to use a DP cable, instead of a HDMI cable. And of course you graphics card needs to support it too. But to me G Sync was a game changer. No more screen tearing plus a reduced input lag (not so important for GA, but when it comes to air combat you need all quick reaction speed you can get). The MSFS was always a pain in the lower behind regarding FPS. Currently I am running it on an i9 and a RTX3090 on a 5400x1440 G Sync screen and in dense areas together with a glass cockpit aircraft (FBW A320) FPS sometimes drop to below 25...limitation doesn’t come from the GPU but from the main thread. I spoke to a guy who is a hardware expert and knows the MSFS and showed him my specs and FPS and he said: well that looks pretty good to me 😅 viele Grüße aus dem Norden in die Schweiz.

      I forgot, my monitor is samsung odissey 49" curve resolution 5120X1440. It has an update frequency max 0f 240 Hz. I have to set at 60 Hz?

    • @PilotPete
      @PilotPete  10 місяців тому

      The „trick“ is to set your refreshrate lower than your minimum FPS. You can play with the Vsync settings in MSFS. For example, you set your monitor to 60Hz in Nvidia panel and 1/2 refreshrate in MSFS Menu, will result in 30FPS lock. However, with your system, you can probably go for 40 or 50FPS

  • @TomBush999
    @TomBush999 3 роки тому

    Your tips gave me a good 10fps flying in the most taxing areas in an airliner. Only problem is when I put on Vsync it halves my FPS to 15fps... When I turn it off I get 33/34fps. Any idea why? Could it be conflicting with the refresh rate I set in the Nvidia app? I turned mine to 30hrz

    • @PilotPete
      @PilotPete  3 роки тому

      Try to use Vsync ON in Nvidia panel and set vsync off in game, then it should work fine 👍🏼

    • @TomBush999
      @TomBush999 3 роки тому

      Thanks that worked. Seems like the settings in game for frame cap acts as a divider, so I was set to 30fps Vsync in the game and that was dividing my refresh rate by 2; which was set to 30hrz via NCP

      Vsync seems to have issues on some systems. You could try to use adaptive vsync or half refreshrate in Nvidia panel as alternative. Sorry it didnt help. :)

      Unfortunately i dont have this issue so i cant reproduce and help. Your best bet would be to search in the msfs forum, i know there are other peoples reporting similar issues. Also, it COULD be that you LOD is just too high for your system? As when you are low on ground the high LOD is more demanding than when in flight, thats atleast my observation. :)

    So. Here is where I stand...
    I did as u said. I dont have the fps monitor that you have so I used the one in fs. Im not sure exactly what its telling me but I guess red is bad, harhar.
    Ok, h/w is a alienware i9 w/ 2080 TI, 32 gb ram... decent enough right?
    Ok, first, I changed stuff so I get 40-50 fps when wide open. For some reason, things get way worse (stutters and red lines) when I throttle frame rate back to 30. Mine really truly is performing better when wide open rather than limited! I really want to understand whats happening better but I dont have the patience to learn the new fps s/w that u use.
    Im seeing very few frame skips while sitting in my a320 at ksee.
    Any advice???

    • @PilotPete
      @PilotPete  3 роки тому

      Hm, thats strange. Whats your monitor refreshrate and did you limit the frames by enabling "vsync 30FOS" ingame?

    • @PilotPete
      @PilotPete  3 роки тому +1

      Also the A320 is not the best plane to test this. Performance in glass cockpits is subpar, especially in the FBWA320NX. Thats why i dont use it. Stutters are pretry bad in this one. Test in every other plane but no default glass cockpit ones, optimisation is very bad right now in them compared to all the other planes, they are way too heavy on one single CPU core.

    • @Level10Productions
      @Level10Productions 3 роки тому

      @@PilotPete Ahhhh. That could be. The 320 has a lot going on.
      My monitor = 120hz. But why when I set refresh to 30 that I get missed frames all over the place.
      I dont test what I dont fly...I need my A320 to perform as well as can be. And I see many study level craft in the works that are gonna be frame gobblers.

    • @PilotPete
      @PilotPete  3 роки тому +1

      Sure, i understsnd. I dont get the A320 as smooth as i need. And no, see the CRJ, how smooth that is with much more systems simulated than the A320. Problem is, default Glass cockpits use JS/HTML for the displays / systems. Study-level 3rd party planes have to be donewith C++/WASM, as the CRJ. Then they are very easy on frames.
      ASOBO will move the Glasscockpit rendering to another CPU corein the future, that SHOULD optimise the bad performing default airliners.
      Check out the CRJ, performs the same as a C152. If coding is done right, theres no performance issues. :)

    • @Level10Productions
      @Level10Productions 3 роки тому

      That is absolutely true. JS is Waaay slower than C++ which generates low-level, fast machine code. Having 20 cores doesnt do us much good if msfs only uses 1 of them, at least for all general stuff.
      But my question remains...why do I get super crappy stutters when I limit to 30fps? Im getting 50-60 fps with it off and waaaay less stutters...Im assuming msfs built in fps monitor showing red means we were late setting up the frame.
      Am I reading it correctly? It even looks worse while panning around, anybody know?

      1. Set a custom resolution with 60Hz in the control panel and seeif your monitor supports that.
      2. Turn on vsync 30FPS in Sim anyway and see if its smooth for you. It theoretically should, just instead of every second refresh cycle, you will see a frame every 4th refresh-cycle. (120:30).
