Hello everyone i came across this info im about to share with you the other day and after trying this out WHAT a GAME Changer. I could not believe the performance increase that i got out of de bloating my nvidia driver. To note you must be willing to give up the geforce exp but it is well worth it in my opinion. I will walk through every stem in which to do this properly and remember that you can always go back to the original version just run the nvidia driver file you downloaded from the web and select custom install and check fresh install and you are all back to original. Keep in mind also that millage may vary and what gave me great results may only give you a little and vise versa. This was such a mind blowing experience i just had to share this with everyone and i hope this treats you as well as it has for me. Well well well. Finally someone who knows what he's doing. I followed your video to the letter. Jumped from 25fps to 41fps. No more stutters. My rig consists of i7 4790, 16gb Ram, RTX Quatro 4000 8GB Graphics running 3440 x 1440 at 144 Hz. If you ever come to Western Australia I'll buy you a beer or two. Thanks Mate. You have a new sub.

What an improvement. Thank you so much for making this video, my performance around New York was awful beforehand seeing a max of 15fps, now its at 35 (fps locked at 36). Outstanding, subbed!

The best tutorials I've seen on the subject. A week ago I bought a 3080ti and was disappointed to find that it only managed to get 15fps in New York. I have followed your recommendations and the improvement is impressive: 34fps and I have some settings higher than yours. And I still have to make the OpenXR settings.
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.

I want to thank you for your work on this. Worked great. I have added between 5-10 FPS in VR which has enabled me to add to the render scale and thereby the quality. I am on a 3090 and a i9-10900k. I have noticed it has done a good job reducing anti-aliasing/shimmering in the mid range, which kind of broke some of the immersion. Still there but its better. So thank you again for all your effort here ;-)

I just posted this on Overkill's site to thank him for promoting this video. This worked great (and unfortunately the two words that follows are the most hated in FS circles...) "for me". I used to fly around Los Angeles, but somewhere around SU8, I started getting severe jitters, and my FPS sometimes dropped to 10-15 when at an airport. I gave up and started flying out of Seattle, which is still a bit jittery but not as bad. I followed your advice and got a jump to the low 40's at Burbank, which is where I had really bad performance before. As others have mentioned, it could simply be the deinstallation of GEForce Experience and/or the clean install that did it more than anything else, but wow... this allowed me to increase my OLOD and TLOD also where I had to reduce them because of the jittering.
You sir, are a steely-eyed missile man!

I had 10 x nVidia containers, however, I couldn't see that any of them were using grahics resources in task manager. I uninstalled GEFORCE Experience and I only had 2 x nVidia containers but I didn't get any improvement in FPS flying in Cessna 152 from City Airport London. I am running i7 and RTX 2070S non-VR 2560x1440 with all FS2020 settings maxed out. I will try the full set of steps sometime to see what happens.

There have been many videos claiming to improve MSFS and VR performance, so I was sceptical when watching this video., however(!), following the steps in this video really improved the VR experience. I am amazed at the improved FPS and visual quality the *hack* NVidia driver and the OpenXR toolkit gave. Thank you for the video.

Watched both your videos on this and can report MAJOR jump in smoothness and about 5-10 fps generally so far. Back on FSX with Win7 I was very much a clean safe mode driver install guy every time so nice to start that again now with Win11, def makes a huge difference cutting all the "GF experience" bloat out. Thanks

😄Thank YOU! I watched the entire video and carefully took notes and screenshots. I can say that I certainly appreciated it, but I have to laugh because it wasn't until the end of the video, when you mentioned that the Nvidia Icon in the system tray will "No longer show the GeForce Experience", that I realized my Nvidia icon doesn't show the GeForce tattoo!
I then remembered that I never installed any of those options! I suspected them to be bloatware back then and decided not to enable any of them.
Therefore, I already had the GeForce Exp 'out of the picture', but I haven't tried FS 2020 since I've installed it (just recently) because I wanted to get all my 'ducks in a row' first. I've been a long-time FSX Flight-simmer for about 9+ years and was aware of what all those little 'free options' could do to a system, (even to the ones that I custom-build).
Still, there were some steps that you showed in the video regarding selections made before installing the driver (like, "Enable DLSS Indicator" or "Show Expert Tweaks", etc.), that I'm sure I never selected when I installed my 3080Ti. So, I plan to try going w/o using this procedure and if I experience any issues that you said your video addresses, I'll just go on and do it!
I know that it wasn't a waste of my time to take all those notes and screenshots because I may need the notes anyway. If not, well, I learned something and that's a "plus".
    Thanks again,
    Rich

Thanks for the Nvidia Performance Hack. Really didn't increase my framerate that much in MSFS but your previous video regarding the adjustment of the Nvidia Control Panel did make a big difference. Increased my framerate by 40%. Getting back to the performance hack; it did unexpectedly fix an issue I was experiencing with Adobe Photoshop for the past three months. Photoshop stopped working because it did not recognize OpenCL. After extensive troubleshooting with the help of both Adobe and Nvidia customer service yielded zero results. I was about to give up when I saw your video in regard to the Nvidia Performance Hack. After running the processes outlined in your video, I decided to try ONE LAST TIME to try and run Photoshop. Voila, Photoshop opened without error and the OpenCL file box was checked. I can now use photoshop thanks to you, my friend. Keep up the good work regarding MSFS. Your performance instructions are a true boon to all Flight Simmers.

Tip, if you haven't used the tool program. I've been testing reducing resolution. G2 is way over sampled. I reduced it to 80% with no loss of quality.
Your brain may try to tell you it looks worse, our human nature greedy for eye candy, but you can pop back and forth out of VR and disable the tool. You'll see no real loss of quality. It's just things you were ignoring as normal stand out when you are looking for flaws.

@@2020fsers Just wanted to warn other laptop users like me that might experience what I had, high battery drain. This method worked to bring smoother and higher fps but I recently noticed when I unplug my laptop to use on battery, it was quickly draining. From 7 hours of battery use to less than an hour. I did a clean install with the latest driver but the issue still persisted. So I did DDU again and then clean installed just using the normal Nvidia method and installed GeForce experience and now my laptop battery is back to normal, lasting 7 hours. I would recommend this only to people who don't use their laptop battery and desktop users. Had to sacrifice the fps gains and smoothness for my battery. 🥲

Run the ddu again and then run the original driver from nvidia run the setup select custom install then make sure to not select GeForce experience. Flying a helicopter I'm now able to fps of 35-40 with quite high quality settings. But what was even more of a surprise, was that with low quality settings I could use VR with fly-by-wire A32NX getting fps of 30-35 (sometimes higher). I'm using an RTX3060Ti and Quest 2 from Oculus
One small problem is that I've noticed that the upper left segment of the left eye is blurry sometimes ... like looking though a glass bottle. What might be causing this (it's strange to me that it's one segment of one eye)?

The good news is I have a performance increase by following the DDU/NV clean install of about 10fps before even adjusting the Nvidia/Cfg file/Windows settings 👍I am running on a i5 with a 1080ti so my processor is always going to be limited I guess . Is it ok to adjust the Nvidia settings with the sim running?

    • @2020fsers

Ok that is better news. No you cannot make changes while the sim is running and that's why this part could take you a while. But when you find out what caused the issue can you let me know so if someone else has the same issue I can advise them. Thanks again .

@@2020fsers Hi , so after applying the suggested Nvidia settings 1 at a time the problem occurs after setting the Background Application Max Frame rate to on and 30. This causes an immediate reduction in frame rate down to 15 when any other application is opened. Now off and all good

Another appreciative "down under" follower here and a NZ beer or 2 waits if you ever get to visit :-). Your info helped me get my VR FPS from a totally unusable 2-3 to 19 after making changes per your recommendations.
    My system specs are:
    Windows 11 Home 64
MSI B560 B560M, Pro-E MS 7D-22 Intel U3-E1 - gaming mode selected (whatever that means)
    Intel Comet Lake Core I5 10400 CPU @ 2.9GHZ
    32GB memory
NVidia GEFORCE GTX 1660 Super GPU, 2047MB, drivers up to date
    2 Samsung SSD 860 EVO
    HP Reverb G2 VR
    OpenXR per your recommended settings.
Task Manager had 6 NVidia entries before Guru3d and NVClean, now shows 2 - I assume this is as expected.
My CPU typically running at less than 50% and GPU up from 65-70% to 98-100% in VR.
In your opinion, does 19 FPS sound about right for my specs or do you feel that my system should be capable of more and if so, I would appreciate any recommendations about where to look.
    Thanks very much
    Mike

Hey thanks for the comment and happy it helped you.. so are you running you ram on xmp mode in the bios? If not turn that on will make a big change. I also just did a windows optimization guide I know it's for windows 10 but the application at the end of the video is a good application to use for 10 and 11 that will also help. You can also use msi afterburner and overclock your gpu. I also have a video on that as well.

Great video detailed and very well explained. I guess when new drivers come out for nvidia you do the whole process again. And by the looks of it, it will help with most if not all games not just MSFS.
    Q) fairly new PC, and I've never installed Geforce Experience and just installed the drivers, I only have 2 containers in my task manager, do I need to go through all this process ? Will it actually benefit me much?

Then while flying at JFK it dropped way down to the high teens and was pixelated in areas. So I'll have to take some time and go back through the settings in both the sim and gpu. @@2020fsers Ok so Here are my Results. Followed the instructions to the T. At highly detailed airports and JFK I get around 23-28 after following the instructions. Flying through Heavy clouds went down to around 19-21 but they were thick! Overall it seems to run smoother even at the low frame rates. When I get up to cruising and the sky is clear I get 45-50 easy. I have all my settings on Ultra.

Two things... First, you should really mention that users Nvidia settings will be reset at the beginning of this video, not the end. So, if people watching have spent hours (or months) fine-tuning them, they could go in and note them down or export them using the tool shown here: ua-cam.com/video/IV1LtBoSaW8/v-deo.html. Second, you really should mention how to update your drivers going foward. I imagine I can just check for new versions on the Nvidia drivers page, download them, and use the same tool to create an updated driver installer, but if there's some checkbox that would need to be checked, or some additional step necessary that may be overlooked, it would be good to know about that ahead of time. Otherwise, this is an excellent video! It was easy to follow and will hopefully give me some extra FPS when gaming in VR.

Thanks for the comment . For updates you repeat the same process. Yeah I forgot to mention about settings at the beginning however this process is kinda complex so I'm hoping that people watch it first before trying to follow but point taken we are all human and sometimes we forget.

I used to have around 25fps on my menu screen and BOOM now i have 50, used to have 20 - 24 on ground or at gate ..Now having 30 - 35 with ease and at around 35 - 40 while flying (Pretty enough for a flight sim with live traffic and moderate ground traffic settings)... :) Love your work my friend.. Just wanted to give you an update..
      My specs are..
      Asus tuf gaming a15
      Ryzen 7 4800h
      8 cores
      16gb ram
      GeForce 1650 4gb vram
Msfs 2020 running from 1tb internal hdd
Note: For my device.. Using Ray tracing (making the value to 1 in cfg) is causing a drop of fps by 2 to 5 frames.
Turning Ray Tracing off is giving me the above fps (as in the previous comment I have posted)
Hope this might give you an idea of what laptop users can observe... Just FYI.. Thanks..

I can live with that however every time I switch to another window (like supported MSFS2020 utilities, or the map, etc...the open flight simulator window goes to 15 FPS & stutters until I make it the active window. I didn't have this issue prior to the performance hack other than the lose of flight control inputs when the simulator is not the active window which is still the case. I have followed each suggestion in this video as well as those suggested in the description. They have been a literal gamechanger. I'm running intel i5 processor with a GTX 3060 gpu. My Nvidia had 11 bloatware items, including Gforce. I only used the Gforce overlay for fps monitoring, and Steam provides this option anyway. I have extreeeemly smooth play with Ultra settings now. I'm able to fly through busy landscapes using more complex aircraft. My framerate has gone from 30-40 to 40-55. Both my Steam and MSFS2020 are running from a secondary SSD through a one-lane PCIe adaptor. I've been using the Google Maps mod and it is fantastic. I look forward to upgrading to Google Maps Pro. The mapping is even better. I will be joining The 2020 fs'ers group as soon as I can load my paypal. This is definitely an intriguing video--learned something new I hadn't noticed (all the extra instances) or knew was out there before (Nvclean). My system showed about 6 instances of the driver running initially and had heard before that GeForce Experience was generally a parasite on one's system... so was excited to see how much boost I could get. I'm now down to the 2 instances like what you show in your video, but my frame rate has dropped about 5fps... granted I probably didn't do a great job of isolating the exact conditions (just same airport, and altitude with the drone camera); but perhaps with live weather, I had more clouds in the scene after using the Nvclean compiler? In any case, logically it seems one's system should perform better with less overhead running... So, thanks for the tip!

If you use a 3rd party app to make your Graphic settings like Nvidia Inspector and you don't mind disabling your Nvidia Display Settings app, there is a much easier way to do this and it eliminates all the Nvidia Container sessions. All you need to do is run MSCONFIG and in the Services tab disable the "NVIDIA Display Containers" service. Reboot and you'll no longer have any NVIDIA Contain apps active which effectively disables all NVIDIA Apps except the driver, which you can modify with your 3rd party app (Like NVIDIA Inspector)

@@2020fsers I'm actually running a system below specs (8GB (6.9GB usable) and a GFX1050 2GB) so I'm not the best to tell difference in FPS (I typically get in low 20's on the ground at a major airport, and 30FPS (Locked) in the air.
