Very nice Ray! I find it especially heartwarming that George wrote this hoping you might sing it, and indeed you did! That MUST have made George's day !!! Cheers, Stevie! :-))))))) ...
Ray Charles & Jose Feliciano are the best Beatles-cover musicians on music. Their versions are the only who touch differents ways not less greats than the originals
John and Paul sent Joe Cocker a telex saying they thought his version of 'With A Little Help From My Friends' was better than theirs; but we're all entitled to our favourites, and if you feel the way you do, then that's the way you feel! And you don't need to justify it to anyone! You know you could cover it yourself, and post it here; nothing to lose; yours could quite possibly be someone's favourite; maybe many folks'; Cheers! :-))))))) ...
@MsMesmer1 This is true. George imagined Ray singing it when he wrote it, and a few years later he actually did. I suppose that's one of the perks of being a Beatle... By the way I read this in a book called A Hard Day's Write the other day, its an enlightening little book that has the stories behind the songs in quite painstaking detail at times. I'd recommend it even to casual fans, I've learned a lot of background from it already. I hope that helps
@jimjamdoogle: It wouldn't be the first time a song would be written with Ray Charles in mind("She's A Woman" DC5's "Can't You See That She's Mine") and it wouldn't be the last(Beach Boys' "Sail on Sailor, Billy Joel's "N.Y. State of Mind.").
George was disappointed with Ray's version, he especially singled out the "cheesy horns". He probably would have preferred a more sparse and raw version, but Ray needed a hit so....
I can see why George picture Ray Charles singing this...this is spectacular. May they BOTH rest in peace.

Wow, The best cover of this song I've ever heard.
from Jose Sepulveda.....Ray was and is ours, born and bred, but we were willing to share him with the world.

Elvis's cover of "Hey Jude" is also very good.
"Doesn't matter who wrote it, when Ray gets a hold of it, it ain't no more their song. "

Ray sings as if carrying all the pain of the world
Ray probably did this version of song better than the other people who covered this song

I'd go with Elvis'.
The second pic is Jamie Foxx, not Ray
