Ray Charles was one of the true pioneers of soul music. Born in Georgia in 1930 he was one of the first performers to mix gospel, R & B and jazz to create a new form of black pop music that would come to be known as soul. His voice and delivery were strikingly different and instantly recognisable. He had his first hits in the early 50's and was still hitting the charts into the 21st century. His death in June 2004 from liver disease was front page news around the world.
This concert was filmed at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 19, 1997 and features Ray Charles and his orchestra, led by sax player Al Jackson, and of course The Raelettes.
The full performance is available on the Eagle Vision DVD "Live at Montreux 1997", out now.
This man is blind, playing a piano, singing, entertaining, and leading his band... Nothing is impossible.
He's amazing
If you can do it,you can achieve it
Breathing without a Space suit on the moon is impossible.
Kanye west gold digger
I played with him a couple of years before passing away, he was puré energy.
who's here waiting on Georgia's election results for 2020? Sing it brother Ray Charles, RIP to one of the greatest of our time.
Me!
Me too!
That why I'm here!
Lol me
Absolutely.
Bless Ray Charles and his art!
Can you imagine being a boy in the Midwest, in the 50's and 60's, blind and African American, creating your own musical genre, because there was no music like that, addicted to drugs, discriminated against for your color and disowned for your music???
Dont do it???
Well, it's another day at the office for *Ray Charles Robinson*
Fly high "Brother Ray", and may the Lord be with you
The best ever! I saw him perform in London and was the greatest concert I have ever seen in my life! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
if you notice hes not singing, hes literally just speaking from his heart and melody follows those words.
This song hit # 1 in 1960. Ray Charles won 17 Grammy awards. One of the BIG BOSSES!
Hello Maria how are you doing
Hello Maria, I see happiness all around you, can I please share from it?
legend...
Cool !
This song is definitely one of my favorite songs
That was the most talented man ever!
He was such a beautiful soul and a gift to humanity from the creator of the universe !!
Its crazy how many people come back to this everyday... this song is a masterpiece!

@@user-gi6yd7ub7c I like Russian culture ❤ 🇷🇺
Facts I had to share just to prove my point ❤
It's sad knowing that Ray was once banned from doing shows in his home state of Georgia, because he refused to play segregated shows. This is his gift to the people that once shunned him, a gift returned to him when the Georgia State legislature decided to name his version of this song their official state song.
This actually never happened. While the movie portrays it that way, Ray was actually never banned from performing in Georgia

Just so you know, the song was written by Hoagy Carmichael in 1930 and is about Hoagy's sister, named Georgia (he himself was a native of Indiana). Although a romantic and very inspirational story; it is not the truth.
Ray Charles started 50 feet behind the starting line yet won the race.
Rest In Peace Brother Ray 🙏🏾
He is an inspiration to every human being.
Had this at my daughter Georgia’s funeral, used to play this to her in my belly and she would kick me so gently, I’m sure she knew it was her song. Such a beautiful song, sadly never thought the lyrics would now haunt me so beautifully. ‘other arms reach out to me, other eyes smile tenderly, still In peaceful dreams i see, a road leads back to you’ will treasure this song for always 👼🏻🤍
God Bless you
Hello I happiness ❤all around you, can I please share from it?
I pray that God who loves and cares for you will bring you through the hard times lady---He will!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
omg I am so sorry for you'r loss but she always will be in your heart

hi roxi, how are you
Woke up to Georgia going blue... needed to hear some sweet Ray this Am.
Yep
Tomorrow and days following until the ballots are all counted is going to be extra intense.
Happy Heavenly 93rd Birthday Ray Charles September 23 1930 - June 10 2004
Georgia 💙🙏💙 on my mind...love from Ohio!
Georgia, The late great Rep Lewis is proud of you for delivering us from another 4 yrs of shame. Thank you
My father's home state just went Blue for the first time since the 80's
Forever tied to you through my blood...... Thankful for you this morning. I love you, Georgia
💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
It went blue in the 90s. It was blue statewide till 2000s.
@@selfishcapitalist3523 as somebody who has lived and traveled through many parts of Georgia my whole life, I can say that Georgia is a purple state for sure. Atlanta and some of the other urban areas are very progressive, but the rural areas are FUCKED. literally less than a month ago I was riding through southern-ish macon and saw a huge confederate flag hung from a ~50 foot flag pole. the building that was flying it was a business that damn near looked abandoned it was in such bad shape, much like any house that waves that flag.
but Atlanta is a bastion of progress in the swamp that is the deep south, and the sheer amount of people concentrated in the Atlanta area is enough to cancel out the cracker-ass rural areas
This is not a song, this is a hymn. A song against the racism. Congratulations Mr. Ray!!! We love u. 🇧🇷
The evolution of his voice and his piano skills never stopped. Like that little weep in his voice adds so much texture.
Ray Charles would have turned 90 on September 23. 2020. That's why I've listened to almost all of his videos on UA-cam and now I know why I became a jazz musician: I'm 78 years old. In the 50`s and 60`s there was a program on "Radio Luxemburg" between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in which mostly R&B with Ray Charles was played. I was totally electrified and never missed a program. I then learned the saxophone and double bass autodactically and later played with many well-known jazz musicians in Germany and Europe, so I can look back on a very fulfilled life with countless and unique experiences.
Thank you Ray,
You were my mentor and
"BLACK LIVES BETTER"
Long life with good health and happiness for you 🙂🤲💪❤
Thanks Georgia🇺🇲👍🏼
He Was Definitely An Incredible Man, Blind And One Of The Talented Musician Of All Times, Also Stevie Wonder!!! ❤❤
Makes me cry whenever I hear it. I had the privilege of standing next to Ray at his piano in 1965 when he played a concert at Northwestern University. This was in 1965, olden times, and the girl had to be back in their dorms by 11pm. Ray was several hour late. There were not many people left at the end. I walked down to his piano, didn't touch him but said "I love you man". The genius .... RAY CHARLES!
The true greats you will feel whenever you hear them. Ray Charles is a true great. This is a great song. The way he emotes it is supreme. Rest in Peace, Ray Charles.❤
Love that song and love him. As a student at Ole Miss in 1967, I was fortunate to see him in concert at the Ole Miss Coliseum. Long time ago, but I remember how great he was to this day!
I was also an Ole Miss Rebel in the 1960's and I saw Ray in New Orleans as he was always one of my favorite musicians. He always sang from his heart and soul, and we will always have a part of, and memory of ray, through his special life and his everlasting gift to humanity through his music. Jim Dedeaux, Gulfport, Ms.

I just thought "this is amazing. My husband is gonna LOVE it." Then I remembered he isn't here. Passed away almost four years ago. And I can't stop loving him.
Election day 2020. Song keeping me hopeful.
This tune brings back a special memory and played a part in my deciding not to reenlist in the Navy. I was due to be discharged in less than a month and had just returned to the staging area after a week or so of long range recon. Someone had tuned the radio to Armed Forces radio and I heard the DJ say "This is for you Georgia boys" and I then heard Georgia On My Mind for the first time. It brought tears to my eyes and gave me a case of homesickness I couldn't shake.
This song played on the radio when my cousins SSGT. Jude R. Jonaus body was returned to us from Iraqi freedom. He was stationed out in GA. Glad you did not reenlist
I Love this song, it has a special place in my heart❤. Can I ask you a question please?@Earl Towery
