The point of Minimalism isn't to cut everything from your life, and start from scratch. Or remove items you love and use.
It's to remove the unnecessary things in your life, to reduce stress. How is getting rid of something you enjoy, reducing stress and making your life easier?
If you don't want to get rid of it, don't. Just remove the items that do not serve purpose in your life.

I am a makeup junkie years before minimalism. Now I only have one product for its purpose. I only buy if I ran out of anything. From 3 drawers of makeup, I now have a tiny box containing my makeup including brushes. And I am happier!

I have a minimum makeup travel bag in my office for hectic days but my line of reasoning was around simplicity multitastic... my brushes are minimized to one for bronzer/blush, one for foundation, one for eyebrows, one for eye shadow and one for powder. And I have to two nudes lipsicks, one pinkier and one beigier (if its a word). One blush, bronzer, foundation, concealer and brow product. Also one small neutral eye shadow palette. Mascara and one brown eye liner... but definitely I couldnt do this type of challenge. You were strong!

So. This challenge was interresing for ideas to travel with absolute minimum, but.. the part where you talk about choosing a single lipstick for fall, well.. I don't get the point of "blaming yourself" that much. I mean, it's a good thing to try stop buying things you don't really need, but why would you try so hard to stick to the "rules" of minimalism? It's alright if you want to own 3 different lipsticks to change from time to time. Plus, I think that minimalism is about to consume less, not about to throw away everything. That would be such a waste !
It’s about both. It has just changed due to environmentalism. The spiritual aspect that inspired it is about having less, ideally.
Have you ever considered a Project Pan? You can look it up and I think it would be great for you!
I do this once a week. I have a lot of makeup and every Sunday night, I pick one of everything I need for the week. I only use those products for a week and then I switch. It’s nice. You don’t have to think about it when you’re in a hurry and you use all of your makeup eventually instead of items being neglected. Can’t wait to see more of your beauty videos!

This is such a good tip! I still have a good amount of makeup after decluttering and have been wanting to find a way to regularly enjoy it all! Definitely going to start doing this.
I do this exact same thing! I find it is such an easy way to make sure that I'm utilizing all of my makeup.
I have one of each for every product except palettes lol they're like my thing I love them but I only keep the 6 I really love the most and tried to do what you just said. My problem is, whenever I love them so much I use them everyday for a long time and when I start to hit pan on one shade I set it aside cause I don't want to finish it. I have this issue for everything in my life: favorite t shirt? Not gonna wear it so much cause it'll get ruined or stained; favorite dish? I have to leave leftovers for later. And then guess what, after some time the makeup goes bad, I don't like the shirt that much anymore and the food is not as good as it was lol I need to work on this 😅
@@user.7257 I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM! And then suddenly I have collected sooo much stuff, because nothing is used till the end and to throw away. And yeah when you come back to those things, you don't love them as much as you loved them when you wanted to save them for later. So yeah we need to work on this!
You could have used the bronzer/contour palette for eyeshadow!!

I use bronzer, blush and highlighter all the time to do my makeup... so easy and it pulls the Look together 😊

My collection consist of:
- 1 Mascara
- 1 eyeliner
- 1 foundation + brush
- 1 blush + brush
- 1 bronzer + brush
- a brow pencil
All done in 7 minutes😊

I’m not really a makeup person so I am just now realizing this; I’ve had a minimalist makeup bag since I was allowed to use makeup. 😂 An even smaller bag than Sarah’s.

I've tried minimalism before, and I think that especially once I go to college I'm gonna have to make more of an effort for it. My own makeup collection has been growing lately. But I love your honesty and you're just a wonderful person and you're amazing! Keep it up!

Why don't you email the makeup companies and ask them to take you out of the PR list? Maybe they send it to someone who's gonna use it and enjoy it
I have a blue makeup bag that's maybe double the size of your black one and it contains ALL my makeup.
I only have 3 lip products excluding 1 lipbalm and that's a nude/pink/everyday lip liner by mac, their signature lip glass, and one Clinique red lippie. I find I have a ton of options: I can colour my lips just slightly with the lip liner for a "Your lips but better look", I can go matte by using more intense lipliner and go nude lip, and I can combine it with the gloss to make it a satin finish, or I could use just the gloss since my lips are naturally pink and I adore that, and when I'm feeling festive or going out at night I could just put red lipstick on and I'm done.
I'm very proud of myself for having curated my makeup collection to be so minimal and I'm also extremely picky as to what goes in it.
It is possible to live with a limited amount of makeup, I'm someone who finds what I really like and then I stick to it. I can understand that for you it might be different since your job is focused around beauty but sometimes I feel like excessive variety makes us ignorant to real world issues.
Anyway, that is my two cents.

I never had more than one make up bag that I take with me everywhere, n I only get new products 2 replace d existing one that run out 😂 althought ricently I got bunch of extra staff to try out after watching all d yt tutorials I felt like I need them 😂 in reality I probably won't use them anyways cause I got no time or pations required to spend more than a h on my daily make up routine 😂

Why not have that minimal bag as a makeup kit base and have different products for the seasons? It could be a idea to keep it minimal but versatile with options.
Edit: kinda like a capsule wardrobe but with makeup.
Also at the beginning when you showed us the products, the Contor pallet I thought it would be a cool option to use it also as eyeshadow! It gives you basic nude shadows to work with. It's kinda cheating I guess but makes the product more versatile and give you more to play around with. It's an idea!
I think it would be super fun if you did project pans! That way you can keep it kind of minimal and get through your makeup!

I too have a minimal makeup routine and do not buy until its gone. I am not minimal in my lipsticks though. I have like 7 lippies. I use it as a accessory to match my outfit without javing lots of jewelry.
I used to have so much make up and i declutterd everything two years ago and its so good ! from time to time i will buy something new but i just have so little that its fine haha ;D i just love lip products so i always buy something but i do not own foundation i just only wear spot concealer when i look at my makeup bag its so easy to do makeup in 5 min cuz i know where everything lays
I’d love to try this for a month too! I recently did a 2 month no-buy & learned so so much about myself & I bet I would with this kind...I think I’d document it on my channel too!
I use only mineral foundations and sometimes 1 type of BB cream. Only 1 type of powder. Simple brow routine. But in my case blush and lip products are my options to switch things up :). No shadows. Also brushes I have aplenty, but they don't expire, so I don't care. Everything fits into 1 small basket. Skincare... no way, I have like 3 drawers. Nobody touches my skincare :P.
My minimal makeup collection consists of:
2 eyeliners,
1 lip liner,
2 lipsticks (one natural/ one dark)
1 bronzer
Powder
Mascara
Brow pencil
Primer
Whatever face product I use at the time.
Stila eye and cheek palette
Foundation brush
Powder brush
Bronzer/blush
I have 4 eyebrushes
And I keep a dense brush for when I want to just buff on some powder for quick coverage!
I keep it all in this awesome makeup makeup bag from Walgreens by ITsJudyTime.
I can fit everything and a separate zipper compartment for my brushes.
You know you don’t have to follow it exactly you could’ve kept a little more I consider mine minimalistic but I have a little more than you NOTHING IS CHEATING THERE ARE NO RULES YOU JUST CUT DOWN
I have done that as well with having a lipstick I didn't want,so if the product is a little sticky add some eyeshadow or browser to change the colour
I truly enjoyed this video. I've always been conscious of what I spend. I think, this is mostly why people watch makeup reviews because someone else does the spending, and wait til it gets an approval.
I have a loooot of lipsticks, and there was a time, wherein I was just sorting out - ok, hey I havent used this, why? - Tried it, some I remember why I loved them; others were given away, or thrown out.
Personally, I wasn't comfortable with having one lippie. Because I know, the challenge is NOT to have one, but to be aware and conscious of what I use. I knew, if I threw them all away, I would probably end up buying a new product.
Should anyone decide they only want one lip product, go for something deep nude/plum/rosey color and CREAM formula -- because you can always sheer out with a lipbalm, or use a finger to apply. And if you want it mattified, blot with tissue. x
Please do product empties videos!! Every quarter or something, that way you have lots of stuff to show us and share your opinion on!!
I have a big makeup collection. I have an “everyday” bin that I change out monthly and go “shopping” in my own collection. But for videos, going out or special occasions I grab different products. Love this video!

I feel I'm pretty minimal with my makeup now.I just went through all my make up and got rid of old stuff and gave some to my 2 nieces.I have been doing what another viewer said in the comments ...I change out my "colors" (eyes,lips, cheeks )in my bag every Sunday. It is getting to the point that the bag is staying the same... Except for my lipstick. I AM A LIPSTICK HOARDER. and I'm not changing that💋💄.But having only nice quality makeup at a minimum amount has been wonderful. I don't feel I'm wasting my money anymore. I'm using it up. I allow 2 new blushes a year and one new eyeshadow palette a year. And because of the less purchased makeup i have upped my skincare and buying better quality.

Fun challenge. 😋 day to day to keep my makeup minimal, I like to designate a drawer/bag for it and make a rule that I can’t out grow of that space. If I want something new I have to use up or get rid of an old. This way I keep a minimal amount of makeup but still have a few choices in color with lips and blush etc. right now I have a desk with one big drawer and I love being able to have everything laid out and be able to see everything at once. I think when you have multiple small drawers you can easily forget about things and over buy. 💙

everyday I only wear foundation powder bronzer eyebrow mascara and lipstick/lipgloss and I either switch it up when I’ve finished a product

I think that you're beautiful without makeup,iam 39 my son is 12 my girl 11 and when i go out with them people always tell me that they can't be my kids and i can't be married,and that because i've never used anything on my face except natural oils or shea butter,coconut oil.....in my makeup bag(all what i have) i have (one mascara,one blush,one eye shadow palette,1eyeliner,3 lipsticks red,nude and pink,lips balm,2 eyebrow products)and one foundation and a powder only for big occasions,i feel great,beautiful,i think that you're gorgeous like you are.

My make up is totally very minimal...Lesser than what you have..I only have few must have make up for example foundation, concealer, powder, countor powder, blushes and lipsticks..No eye liner or mascara..My most make up collection will be just my lipsticks which this year I am banned from buying lipsticks until all gone..
The color of your sweater/top at the end of the video is the best color I've ever seen you wear! It's so soft and flattering on your skin, eye and hair colors
So I have been a minimalist in makeup area without realizing it, i only have one product for everything except lips (3-4 color) and dont have eyeshadow because i can use my bronzer/blush for that (i cant apply eyeshadow). But I think its okay to have more makeup if u need them and its make you happy.

I think I only use about 4 makeup products. Powder, mascara, 1 lipstick, 1 tinted lip balm. Most of the time I just use the powder and lip balm.
I really love the thought of one makeup bag like I had when I was a teenager 😊 Maybe in your case you can use a makeup bag like this when youre not filming and then use your other makeup or new makeup in your videos? Then atleast you will finish some of the products you have in your drawers. But you can do some beautyvideos like "3 looks with one eyeshadowpalette" and things like that even if you do not have a big collection. Love this videoconcept.
Step 1 to decluttering; throw out all expired makeup. The majority of women and almost ALL makeup youtubers keep their products much longer than they should and sometimes years after the expiration date.
Step 2 is to evaluate what you have left. You may not need or want to continue with the declutter.
I also have a minimal makeup bag but I have four lip products if I want to change up my look and I love it. I think with a nice lip color you can achieve a different look even with natural make up. I have a red, a plum liquid lipstick, a nude bullet lipstick for everyday and a nude gloss if my lips get dry and I want something on that doesn't dry out my lips even more 😊 I really like the way my minimal make up bag is working for me and I was a huge make up collector.. I think that if you learn what you like you can easily transform you makeup bag. Makeup can be fun even if it's minimal 😊

But get one lip product of the color you want. I mean, having the same shade on several formulas is a bit too much, but having one single red, one single peach, one single nude, one single coral and one single burgundy is fair play in my opinion.
This reminded me I needed to go through my clothes and bathroom stuff and declutter!!! It feels so much better now! I got rid of a ton of bathroom stuff and 1/4 of my clothes! I normally do this seasonally!

Being a bit of a make-up minimalist myself, I've enjoyed you sharing your experience. I think part of how easy this challenge can be is the fact that most of us tend to reach for a small number of favourites, even while having very large collections. Once I have realized this, parting ways with the excess products became easier.
You inspired me to live a more minimal lifestyle, I'm slowly going through my home and donating whatever I can and throwing out what can't be donated or repurposed. It reduces the amount of laundry, dishes and general cleaning I have to do. It helps my mood as well. I have such a long way to go but I'm enjoying the process of becoming more minimal.

When I minimized my makeup collection I chose a nude and a super dark goth berry color. It is perfect because I can wear it full power or sheer it out for several different shades! ++ Bonus it makes a great blush if I rub it on my fingers and then tap it on! I also use my contour and highlighter for my eyeshadow! 😊

Your minimal makeup collection is larger than my makeup collection, which I still feel is cluttered 😂 Nothing wrong with that, but I thought it was funny. I use the same makeup products every day, and if I need to change my look up, I can always vamp up the products I already have (: Our situations are different, though, as I'm not getting sent PR packages from companies. Who knows? I'd probably accumulate a bunch more makeup if that were the case.

Fun challenge. I’d say I’m a serial minimalist. I choose what I’ll be using for 1 to 3 weeks and, that way, I don’t have to make decisions for that period of time. I enjoy my collection and don’t feel overwhelmed by the selection. Feels great.
You should add one eyeshadow palette just for special occasions. (Date night, wedding, etc) or just to switch up the look just a bit :) and lip colors are like an accessory, maybe have one pink, nude, and a bold color??? Just to have a little variety? Great challenge! 👍🏻
Using 1 lipstick nothing else for eye shadow and lips and blush and use powder to seal and powder face if you want and blush topper and caring day mascara to use on brows and lashes and you are done with quick minimal make up, lip brush will help applying on eyes and powder brush and blush brush and i use a crease brush for inner corner highlight some days with a good eyeshadow highlight. It looks great and helps use lipstick faster. Only takes a minute to do all these steps really and you can add more highlight under brow bone and outer corner and eyelid if you want. Minimal make up is awesome and i use the highlight+blush+bronzer baked blush from nyx so its multitasking and looks awesome as a blush topper after powder over the lipstick.
I would say that having only one or two of each face product makes sense to me, and one mascara at a time. But maybe have one black, brown, navy, etc. eyeliner. Only one of each color, not several different brands. Then you should have several lip colors. No less than 10. By keeping everything else very natural you can really change up a look with just your lips, even mixing colors to extend your color range. If you love eye shadow, keep your top 10 palettes, and maybe top 5 singles. You can absolutely pare down your collection (by a LOT), still have options, and still have fun. I think most of the excess comes from having multiple products that are very similar, especially eye and lip colors. So by just picking your absolute favorites, then you are guaranteed to love what you have while keeping things minimal. :)
