    I have the 552 set. I’m an old guy and above 5 months ago I was a fat fat old guy. I’m in the middle of a transformation - down around 60 + pounds from 240 to 176. I started exercise around 190. These Bowflex 552 sets are great. I use them a lot, along with a barbell weights and a Bowflex power rod set up. The one problem would be outgrowing them as you advance, which is why you’d then by the 1090 set. These sets work much much better with the Bowflex stand rather than on the floor. If you want to muscle up this is a good way to go.

    I have the 1090s. The biggest issue is they are super bulky which limits certain movements like you mentioned in the beginning such a close grip bench, and deadlifts. And yeah you can make compromises by adjusting your technique but at the same time it doesn't always lead to the best results and may also lead to injury if adjusting your technique incorrectly to fit the movement.

    Hey Walt .. just came across your video and i am so happy i did ... great video, great detailed analysis ... really happy with it. You making my buying process easier.
    This is how reviews should be done. Thank you!
    Two questions please:
    1. I read somewhere someone complaining that the dialing mechanism jammed on him. Are you aware of that issue?
    2. The pinky bridge, is made of plastic to my knowledge. Is that what is holding the plates together?
    Can you please elaborate?

    I had a pair for 14 years and one fell as I was putting it back on the rack and the handle disc 3 cracked and broke. Being that it is during COVID, getting a replacement was really hard. I bought a replacement disc and fixed it. However, a Average Joe has a great long term fix coming -aluminum discs that will make it virtually hard to ruin over time.

    You can go up by 2.5 on the 1090s, you just offset each side by 5 (so for 17.5 you do 20 on one side and 15 on the other)

  • @dkillahne
    @dkillahne 4 роки тому +9

    I have the 1090s and love them. you can adjust in 2.5 lb increments as well. so if you want 37.5 lb dumbbells just set 1 side to 35 and the other to 40. you can then adjust hand grip to favor the heavier side to comensate for the weight difference. works great!

    Is it possible to use lifting straps with the Bowflex dumbbells ? The main issue I think would be that when you need to tightly grip the straps, you rotate the dumbbell, but the Bowflex has uneven weight distribution and always must be held with the red handle at the top. Has anyone tried lifting straps ?

    First day impressions:It arrived in a waist high box. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxP26Tir6n60vUkdtn4mbwhRO8cwuJQNy2 Each dumbbell was in its own foam box within the shipping box. Everything was secure and in good shape. No weird smells. The weight changing mechanism is really smooth and straight forward. Changing weight is really fast and easy. Though the handle is plastic, I don't think it will be breaking anytime soon. So far pretty impressed after my first session with them. I was afraid they were going to be too wide at first, but I didn't have any issues with them while doing upright rows.

    You must have money to burn if you’re able to purchase both the 552s and 1090s. If so then you really should get the stand. Since the dumbbells can be stored conveniently in the stand near waist height, it makes the lifting of heavier weight out of the stand much easier when prepping to do an exercise. Also, take that Bowflex advisory if dropping those dumbbells seriously. Do so at your own risk.
