Bro! I just found your channel. It is so good to know that there are a part of this community interested in the lore of diablo universe. I used to play a lot of D2 when I was a kid/teenager and used to love the lore and athmosphere of the game. Coming from years of playing dark souls/ bloodborne/ elden ring, I found myself appreciating the world design, lore and atmosphere of d4 more than the gameplay aspects (even though i like theorycrafting and building as other rpg afficionados). Good to see that there is a place in this community for people who appreciate aspects of the game other than piñata bosses and climbing the ladder
2:08 little correction: Xiansai (an island in the northern part of Sanctuary) is the origin place of the Mage Class, specialized to elemental magic, such as the Sorceress in D2 or D3 or the Mage Class in D1. Monks however have their origin in Ivgorod, a region in the eastern part of the Dreadlands.
@19:35 Akarat's followers are not the same people as the Cathedral of Light. Akarat's followers are called Zakarumites or CHURCH / Children of Light (have been corrupted by Mephisto). On the other side the Cathedral of Light has it's origins in the Sin War, and has been founded by Inarius as counterweight to the Triune. both are affiliated to the Light, but are different entities. EDIT: other than that, great vid :)
My personal theory is that we've seen "by three they come" twice now, and are bound to see it a third time. The blood of the willing opened Lilith's prison, then the words of friendship opened the way to Akarat's tomb. Now we have two souls touched by hatred about to start a holy war... what are they going to open the way to, and who will be the third soul?
I absolutely love your videos, your story telling is that of those that did all the Destiny Lore videos. I would prefer if you didn't show gameplay of diablo 4 events while you tell it. It's distracting, because I'm like "uh that part is so boring" and I forget to listen to you telling the story :D :D
I get that. This video just had no artwork I could show and I'm trying to move away from using AI generated images to illustrate a story point, it doesn't feel right.
Diablo and Baal come back at some point. Neyrelle becomes the savior of the universe for some reason and destroys all three of them single-handedly . Wanderer is just there to be her therapist.
I dont think that heavens and hell are the afterlife in Diablo. They're more like different actual places or dimensions. Where souls go is a mystery and Akarat was scared of dying dying, coz earlier he was connected to the Spirit Realm and he knew he would have a place there. Also Angels are not created by any sort of decision - they just appear from the Crystal Arch while heavens are in perfect harmony. Anyways - great material like always! Happy you're making those videos!
Really like your videos, but there is an element of the lore that I think I interpreted differently around heaven being a place where mortals go after death at all (either Akarat or anyone). My understanding is that heaven and hell are realms with their own beings and incarnation cycles of their own. This means that mortals when they die they do not go to heaven or hell. The lore of the Spirit-realm confirms it with it being the place where human souls go. It seems like when human souls return to the Spirit-realm they are not just there but they kinda exists on a diminished presence (that is why the embodiment of Akarat as a spirit guardian was more than just his spirit there after dying) so now that his spirit guardian form sacrificed he will not go to heaven, he will just do what normal souls do in the spirit realm. Also, the true concept of the light (the power of the spirit within each human and the spirit realm) is not necessarily heavenly in nature but human. This is though something where I think the lore is not super consistent because as your video tells the start of Akarats journey seems a bit heavenly in nature and there are mose heavenly references on light bearing classes, but I guess is related to how in theory is because the spirit born are supposed to be the only ones that fully know the connection between Akarat and the Spirit-realm.
The part that confuses me, is that we've had it drilled into us throughout D3 that "The Light"/angels are no better than the Evils, but just another extreme that ultimately wants to take advantage of, or destroy humanity. Then, in base D4 we're shown that Lilith and Inarius are also in this sort of gray area. So, since we "know" that The Light is indeed not a pure or solely caring entity, we can reason that Akarat's teachings were incorrect. He himself was a positive force, but The Light was only ever a third oppositional force rather than something benefitting of humanity. I suppose along with the Jesus analogy maybe this was a way to reflect Jesus' teachings that God loves all humanity but has also turned populations to salt and is willing to torture humans for eternity...I guess? Ultimately I think they've written themselves into a corner, similar to how The Primes' 4D chess plans are always meant to fail because the next step is REALLY what they meant to happen...but not really for why. To win the Sin Wars, take humanity, etc., but they've effectively done that throughout each game and but don't have much purpose once they've done it. Consider Nahantu. It was a place cursed with hatred. Then it wasn't. While it was, it's not as though some great victory was achieved. It just...was. Dang.
….so uh…I guess there’s some consistent theme. Spoiler: I mean…yes, Prime Evils and their typical taking over human bodies. Mephisto seems to have a trend of possessing a figure/head of a religion. It was San Ke(something)kur (head priest of Zakarum?) and now…Akarat himself. He must really hates paladins and crusaders. 🤣
Yeah.. he didn't go to heaven. He used up the remainder of his light and faded. No way the notoriously impartial angels would just accept him. Especially if the angel part was used up.😐
I thought this dude was the actual “God” of the Diablo universe. After doing the campaign i realized he is just a dumb fool who sacrificed himself for something maybe??? Like i could have killed mephisto and pretty sure i could kill diablo considering i destroy the lesser evils daily. Not sure why everyone is so scared of them. I wear Andariel’s mask for the lolz and i even have Tyrael’s armor cuz he is a simp. Sanctuary needs to chill and let me handle shit.
Yeah, I remember thinking the same thing when i was playing through the campaign of Diablo 3. The way that he was talked about was like the Jesus of Sanctuary, offering humanity the life after death salvation that was clearly not going to be given to them by the in-game universe heaven. D4 campaign totally ruined all that. I wonder if they just sort of highjacked the lore and rewrote who his chatacter simply grasping at straws for a narrative. Too bad. The diablo lore has taken a real nose dive since the days of D2.

We do like a story!
Am i the only one who thought that Akarat was a stand in for Jesus in Diablo??😭
Isn't he?
Yeah, he basically copied the Aslan template from the Chronicles of Narnia ...
Yeah that's like the whole thing. Get ready for the anti- christ!!!
You aren't far from the truth!
Literally everyone knows this.
Doesn't take a particularly smart person to notice the Christian symbolism, narrative and aesthetic of the character.

The story made me so sad, yet so angry that i did not get to see the end in this expansion. But the fact i have to wait is irritating me.
Me too 😔
A wonderful addition to the lore of Diablo
Thank you!
Great summary, Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Do you plan on making a prediction video on whats to come?
That would be great
I could! It's a good idea, I have some thoughts.
@@NyxVellum i thought you would since you know so much lore. Looking forward to the video!
@@NyxVellum Baal n Diablo coming back again or Mephisto kicking their ass?
Diablo and Baal come back at some point. Neyrelle becomes the savior of the universe for some reason and destroys all three of them single-handedly . Wanderer is just there to be her therapist.
Love your videos!
Ooh nyx (that's you by the way) uploaded
Can you believe it? Throne and Liberty gave me a week of free time.
Can we find some lore on what the "soul drinker" is, which is what the season pass is based on? Is it just a goat/kazra?
I wanted to but there just isn't enough lore for this yet, it's not like the other seasons 😔
@NyxVellum either way, definitely enjoy your lore videos. Thanks for all the work you put in

I thought the Monks came from Ivgorod and the Wizards and Tempests came from Xiansai.
It would be interesting if Akarat angelic form would be called Yaerius. After all... Akarat IS the first son of light in Sanctuary.
But why did you feel the need to explain what siblings are?
The brothers and sisters part was not written down it just felt right in the moment... bad move 😂

Hello Nyx
Also, I like and also hate that you added "in an instant, retrieved the body of akarat and the stone" because that part made NO sense.
….so uh…I guess there’s some consistent theme.

Why would angels help mankind if they found no value in it?
The big "L" on my forehead spells "light" if you're wondering
if i had a $1 this game says akarat ill be rich
Yeah.. he didn't go to heaven. He used up the remainder of his light and faded. No way the notoriously impartial angels would just accept him. Especially if the angel part was used up.😐
Movie name please?
It's a video game called diablo.
Akarat is the korean jesus
jesus from china
i think akarat i think dragon ball z kakarot
What a weirdly positioned and poorly delivered "plot twist" at this expansion's story...
i was here first
Cheater
Yes your were!
