Fun fact: that is where the second phase of Godfrey is stored. When you hit that second phase cutscene, they teleport the character up to the boss arena as the fade to black happens

Malenia is actually the exception I believe, she doesn’t use a separate model for each of her phases, just changes the existing one. Pretty sure that’s why both of her phases count as a single boss in randomiser unlike all other multiphase bosses which count as 2 separate bosses - because unlike all of them, her phases are 1 entity and untangling that would just be too much effort

Okay so for those who don't understand, 1st Lord Godfrey and Horah Loux are 2 seperate character models that swap out during the phase swap of his boss fight.
Because the game doesn't know when you'll fight him, they choose to have his secondary model constantly loaded in outside the normally playable area, on standby.

So, fun fact about this area. If you do it right, you can perform a glitch here by jumping off the edge and falling through a death barrier, therefore bypassing so far underground that you trigger the Elden Beast to fall through the ground and die from Autofall, giving you a pretty damn funny boss cheese.

All the games do this, btw, but usually burry npcs and bosses and mobs like 20km under ground, then just pop them up when needed. Saves loading times and stutter.
