In defence of the Lord of the Frenzied Flame ending, sometimes the ending you pick isn't based on altruism but rather chosen for spiteful reasons. I got to raze the world of Elden Ring and purge all those who called me maidenless. This ending is more cathartic.

You yourself change when using Dragon Hearts as shown by your eye color, its such a distinct tree of abilities and spells, and dragons are still everywhere waiting for their destined one. Don't forget, the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince doesn't just restore death; it fixes into the natural Order the principle of life within Death; as Fia states, it normalises "Those Who Live in Death", preventing their persecution. Combined with the Rune of Destined Death being released into the Lands Between with Maliketh's death, it, in other words, doesn't just make Death a thing again in the Lands Between: it also makes *Undeath* normal.

Now, with the Rune of Death released with Maliketh's death, and the Cursemarks/Mending Rune of the Death-Prince added to the Golden Order - "embed the principle of life within Death into Order" -, it means that not only can we die again, but if we come back as an Undead, that's considered a "normal" part of 'reality'.

Mending Rune of Order means that the Greater Will can act through everyday Humans rather than through Gods. In this case, every human now has the capability to draw upon a small bit of the Greater Will if they so choose. It's a throwback to how Martin Luther and the protestant movement stated that you didn't have to follow strict Catholic Fundamentalism in order to be saved as Jesus never mentioned any of the rituals established by Roman Catholicism.
Goldmask is akin to Martin Luther, tearing at a strict sect of fundamentalism in order to strip power away from what was essentially a corrupt ecclesiarchy where men placed themselves in the position of God by saying they spoke for God. There's a lot of parallel between what is depicted in game as Golden Order Fundamentalism and Catholic Fundamentalism. They even had an inquisition, just look at the confessors. Rykard was a "ruthless justiciar" which essentially means he spearheaded the inquisitorial approach of the confessors. You even find the confessor set at Mt. Gelmir.
No one ever said that the Greater Will was malevolent. People just assumed that it was because they know it's an outside force tampering with the world. Yet, at the same time, it's cardinal archetype "order" is neither good nor bad.

I think the 2 fingers and 3 fingers respectively are a reference to the “God Hand” concept from Berserk, and that the Frenzied Flame ending is the “Eclipse” where the chosen one sacrifices his followers (in this case, the lives that inhabit the Lands Between) to be reborn as an outer God. I think the art style and symbolism reinforces this as the sun is blocked out by the frenzied flame and the sky turns to crimson. Even the husk of the burnt Erdtree resembles a hand.

As she might be a solitary being and her solution is to abandon all of it and go back to a more primitive solitary life free from the troubles she has seen with only her closest allies in tow. The Lord of the Frenzied Flame ending is similar to the End of The Age of Fire and Usurpation of Fire ending in Dark Souls 3, where you just allow the declining age to end and usher in a new age to learn from the mistakes of the last. As a Tarnished who wishes to stand before the Elden Ring and become Elden Lord, I am accumulating knowledge. To be all-knowing. You now belong to a select group of fellows. As such, I ask that you remain constant."
He wants to become Elden Lord. He literally tells you his ambition is exactly the same as your ambition.
If you did Nepheli's quest line it is clear he uses people for pawns. During/after her quest at the Village of the Albinaurics is when Ensha invades you.
He also tells you again after Ensha attacks you:
"Oh, my apologies for that nasty business. Ensha got rather ahead of himself, it seems. As his master, I'd like to express my regret. But now, Ensha is slain and gone. Finished, forever more."
At this point, it should be very obvious that EVERY Tarnished is playing a game of Highlander, because there can be only one. It is very clear at this point Gideon is NOT our friend, and we just took Ensha's place after offing him.
The actual plot twist however happens when you fight him:
      "Ahh, I knew you'd come.
To stand before the Elden Ring. To become Elden Lord. What a sad state of affairs. I commend your spirit, but alas, none shall take the throne. Queen Marika has high hopes for us. That we continue to struggle. Unto eternity."
The twist is that he rejected the idea of becoming Elden Lord, and is actively hindering any Tarnished from doing so, as Gideon is working for Marika the entire time, and not the Two Fingers.

I don't think that's what the age of duskborn leads to, my understanding was that it officiates the existence of the undead into the natural order, since death was not removed by the greater will but marika herself, re-uniting the elden ring necessitates that death resume in all endings where the player ascends. Essentially choosing that ending just means you're also adding spooky ghosts, skeletons, and zombies into the natural state of existence, and since they are now natural, persecuting them becomes a heresy. I'm happy to be told otherwise though since the language around death, what the mending rune of death does, and what fia's ambitions are is very cryptic and open to interpretation.

    • @AlextheGreat647

Marika didn’t remove death. It actually was Ranni who killed her brother and “cheated” death and the cause of the whole natural order going out of control, Which is the famous Godwyn that we see but don’t know who exactly he is. That also was the reason why Marika/Radagon went back to the Erdtree trying too fix the problem but the damage was done which also caused the demigods to go power mad as well. The Age of the duskborn also turns Godwyn into a god of death as well. If anything, Age of the Duskborn is more a neutral ending rather than a good or bad. Also, this doesn’t mean you’re allowing ghosts, skeletons, & zombies too exist in the natural order, all this ending does is remove immortality from the cycle.

Ranni on the other hand hated the idea of being an Empyrean and a successor to Marika and basically a pawn to the greater will and the two fingers, hence why she stole the death rune from Maliketh not to "cheat" death but to literally kill herself(Her body that is). As for Godwyn, it is not yet confirmed who ordered to kill him, so we can't say it's Ranni for sure. It could be that the Black Knife Assassins have their own motive or probably the Godskin. Lastly Marika wasn't trying to fix the mess she literally made it worst by shattering the Elden Ring.

    • @AlextheGreat647

@@vaultboy3706 Ranni was the one that ordered the assassin of Godwyn. If you do Roderic quest line, he basically tells you it was her that orchestrated the ritual for the black knife assassins, imbuing their blades with a portion of the fragment from the rune of death. Why she decided to kill her brother, there’s no concrete evidence on their relationship, except that Godwyn was the first god to die. Again, she did cheat death. Hence why she’s still alive, even though she burned her original body, however, if you do Roderick’s quest line, you get to question her about her original body, which she refuses to tell the player anything despite her saying she “discarded it and left it in the past”. And yes, Marikas way of “fixing” the problem was her causing the shattering. If you read a little bit more about Marika, she shattered the ring while Radagon tried to repair it. Unfortunately, that “repair” didn’t workout at all. As for Maliketh being Marikas half brother, I am not so sure of that, but I don’t really know much about Maliketh save for him being the keeper of the rune of death. Everything else you said about Ranni hating the fingers, and hating being a successor is true though. But she clearly states they’ve delayed her age of stars.

Sure the Greater will was bad, but now since Radhan is dead other Gods make the lands between vulnerable. Radhan’s teacher was an abalaster meaning he came from a meteor he most likely told Radahn about what’s out there and that’s why he held the stars in place. And the game tells us what the stars are. It could be an ending that reverses that tho. Like the description says, for every curse, a cursed blessing.
It could be a reversal of sorts. Of course, the spirits are feeling pain, but that could be chocked up to how the spirits are still technically under the original order. And since they can't take part of that order anymore, they are feeling pain. Like how the ones who live in death feel.
By doing this ending, you could be bringing the whole order down to replace with the curse order, which would then make it so that curses are actually good things. That could make pain feel good to everything. It's sick, sure, but it doesn't mean it could be all bad for eternity.

Age of Frenzied Fire ending = leads to the world of Darksouls, where you link fire or find kindles to keep the fire burning.

There's some interesting tidbits of lore I find that may connect the Primeval Current and the Lord of Frenzied Flame Ending.
The Primeval Current is described as a vast void of emptiness which houses life (Astel, etc) and Sellen describes sorcery as the study of the stars and the life therein (in the primeval current?). All the sorcerers who've gazed into the primeval current have become fearful, broken, or mad, which is not to different from what happens to users of Frenzied Flame.
So my theory is that the Primeval Current is not an outer god but is more similar to the endless expanse of space, from which all life in the world of Elden Ring came from. This links it to the Frenzied Flame Ending which seeks to return everything to the One Great by burning it all away.
Maybe that 'One Great' is not an outer god but the primeval current itself, and by doing the Frenzied Flame Ending, you're returning all life to the Primeval Current. Having a hard time finding descriptions and dialogue to bring more support this but just find this hypothetic connection between Frenzied Incantations and Primeval Sorceries neat.

I like the prequel theory. That the Dung Eaters ending was a prequel to Demons Souls, as the player character is a spirit that unfortunately got bound to the nexus, which would make sense if their spirit was unable to return where it should go. Age of Stars is a prequel to bloodborne as Ranni allowing the will of the stars inadvertently allowed the great old ones to meddle in mortal affairs, and the frenzied flame ending was a prequel to dark souls, as after the would burned to ash, all would be gray and the same until the first flame lit and created disparity.

Its possible to burn yourself and then stop being the lord of frenzy flame. Its kinda complicated. So, you need to get miquellas needle. You have to complete millicents questline. At The end of the questline, you need to assist her in battle against her Sisters, instead of betraying her. There will be a choice. After Talking to her after assisting her and reloading the area, you will find her dead. Collect the unnalloyed Gold needle from her body. Then you need to beat malenia, you can do this before even starting her quest though. After beating her, a lotus flower shoudl be there after defeating her. Interract with the lotus flower using the unnalloyed Gold needle and you will get miquellas needle. It will allow you to free yourself from the kindling of the frenzied flame, but it can only be used in placidusax Boss Arena. Reasons? I dunno. And there you go. Use it and no more world burning. She still won't come back though. I know i am late af and y po know how to do it, but i don't care.

I think corhyn did a little projecting, honestly. He was the one cackling and rambling, goldmask just uncovered something corhyn couldnt comprehend, he refused to believe marika and radagon are one and that the order was flawed. He considered it blasphemous. But goldmask saw the truth, and corhyn saw his idol do what he believed to be blasphemous and lost his mind. The erdtree burned, the order questioned, his idol and mentor dead for a rune to change the golden order, it was all too much for him to bear.
But goldmask, the ever-brilliant, discovered a rune to mend the elden ring and the golden order, to remove the hands of the gods from the control of the world and give it back to its people.
The other two mending runes state they affect ALL, the death-prince says those who live in death will no longer be persecuted, and so no it doesnt “restore death”, it brings about undeath, and the blessing of despair afflicts all with a curse keeping them from returning to the erdtree, leaving their souls trapped and despaired. If these runes applied to the ring affect all, i believe the rune of perfect order then doesnt just give you control of the order and the world, it gives it to all. The golden order now belongs not to a lord or a god, but to everyone.
I think its a pretty solid ending up by Ranni’s, which is also apparently really badly translated and is a lot more positive in the original japanese version, so i think these two are the best endings, then standard, then fia’s and dungeater’s, then frenzy.

It effectively means almost the exact opposite of the english version. She essentially intends to push her order out into the stars to essentially block outer gods from interacting with the lands between at all. The "fear, doubt, and loneliness" was describing her own path taking her out into the void to guard the land against them, which is why she was so insistent on doing it alone until you convince her to let you join her

@@MadLuigi Unironically yes for Ds1 and it's complicated for Ds3.
Whatever you think about the futility of prolonging these ages, the evidence has always been that they're good for the people in them. People have minds, can live fulfilling lives, have families and form functioning societies. Whereas all we've ever seen from the 'dark' is horrors and madness.
Renewing the world of fire in Ds1 is unironically the best ending, because even if the fire will fade once more one day, you've given people centuries of normality, maybe even millenia.
Now in Ds3 yes it's probably not even a year by the looks of the flame after that end, and it's doubtful if much of an effect was even had, but in the end it's not like that ending could do much more damage, and gives people a little more time with their sanity.
Elden ring is even more black and white. There's no reason that the golden ages can't carry on forever, that people shouldn't be allowed to carry on and have relatively normal lives without having to worry about some cthulu star monster turning them into a squid or a fire lord burning their souls. There's absolutely no reason at all that anyone should choose any ending other than the Order endings.

Ranni just creates Earth. She's describing how things just are in meatspace. Faith becomes transient, the soul and stars and life become separate instead of linked, far removed.
The Frenzied Flame simply causes a second Crucible, a return to everything being indistinguishable and one, just like is stated to have been the condition of ER's world in the past. This seems to imply it can drift apart again, making this a second chance, a hard reset on a failed existential experiment. It also robs the world of the outer gods' control by burning it all away, except for one, meaning whatever new world comes about will be shaped by the Three Fingers. So pick your poison - a pantheon of alien gods, or just one alien god following a hard reset?

I think the fell curse is kinda supposed to be that way, like dung eater is clearly a terrible person, a clear sociopathy is the least of his issues. His ending seems like a narcissist's answer to fixing the world. He thinks he knows exactly what to do.
I think there's multiple ways you could read his character based on how charitable you want to be. Either he wants to genuinely change the world and move past the broken age they are in. And this the only way he knows how. Sort of like "this isn't the best solution or even hood one, but things can't stay the same" echoing some of the themes from past games.
Then theres the uncharitable interpretation, which i think based on his characterization is the more likely one, he's just an all around despicable person and wants to lay and indescribably bleak and painful curse on the world because that's what he wants. I think this is more charitable because even when your doing his quest line, as far as I know the game never gives you a reason to think that what he's planning helps anyone but himself and you. And we don't see his actions have any sort of positive outcome aside from ending the current broken order.
So i think it's just supposed to another "bad ending" but in a different way than the chaos ending

So! About the throne in Stormveil Castle. It is Hora Loux/Godfrey's original throne, from before he was an Elden Lord, the knights exiled with him returned when he did and retook the castle, (hence why it's filled with Exiled Knights, not Godrick's knights, despite Godrick's knights permeating the rest of Liurnia and Godrick guarding the throne). Now, if you're famliar with npc summons, the surname Loux might be somewhat familiar, a Nepheli Loux can be found near the entrace to Godrick's boss room, and summoned to assist in fighting him. She has her own questline from there, but it's easy to miss if you don't go looking for her. She discovers that her lineage stems from the first Elden Lord, but due to generational dilution or some other cause, she is no demigod. Taking care to spare her from whatever fate Sellivus has planned for her in his quest, helping Kenneth Haight and not killing the gatekeeper Gostoc nets you a sidequest which ends with Nepheli taking the Throne of Stormveil with Kenneth as her advisor and Gostoc as an attendant, along with a Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone and an additional one to buy from Gostoc. However, this is where the quest ends, and you cannot get Nepheli to also take the throne of Elden Lord, for instance. There is room in this area however, that would suit other NPC's congregating here, perhaps if you were able to save Hewg and Roderika from the burning Hold, which would suit Roderika's quest quite well I think, finally getting into Stormveil Castle, but not at all in the way she'd expected, not be grafted but in service to it's new Lord.
I would wonder if there could have been an ending where if you meet the requirements for all rune-mending endings, you could create a truly perfect rune, that encompasses and protects all in perfect balance.
Another thing we can consider about endings is The fact that the elden beast fell to earth, much like fallingstar beasts, which have been theorized to be a larval form of creatures like Astel, Naturalborn of the void, is it possible then, for there to be an ending where we simply destroy the Elden Beast, and destroy the golden order, allowing a creature like Astel to ascend into a new Elden Beast and create a new order, as perhaps the Astel form is not the final stage of evolution for these creatures, but the elden beast is?

Ranni ending puts the lands between into eternal night with increased Night mobs (riders and birds). The role will make you powerful but you are nothing more than puppet, Godfrey was used to fight wars then discarded and exiled, Radagon was literally marika herself, forced to have selfcest to bear heirs for the greater will. There’s always this reoccurring theme of an infinite cycle, existence is suffering, desire and attachment as corrupting forces, and finally a means to escape (or change) the cycle. Sekiro is probably the most overt about this, as all of its endings are on a spectrum of how much the endings embody Buddhist values.
