I have one of these, purely because I like the look of it. It reminds me of the engines the GWR acquired at the Grouping, the ones that ran on tiny little railways in South Wales. The ones the GWR really resented having to deal with and tried to modify. I always thought that would be a good backstory for Percy. He was built for some Welsh dock railway, the GWR acquired and modified him (and that's why he doesn't look like any real engine), then he was sold off when the GWR replaced him with something more standard.
The time-lapse portion of the running session makes me almost fall off my chair, especially when the Plarail Percy zooms through the tunnel on the flatbed.
I saw one of these models actually used as Percy in a Christmas video a few years ago and I always wondered why it was in this livery. It’s nice to finally figure out why.
I mean, as Percy being ex GWR is a common headcannon, due to Trojan the Avonside 0-4-0 being GWR and Percy at least having the frames of an Avonside 0-4-0, having a GWR liveried Percy is a fairly normal thing. My personal headcannon is that Percy was originally an Avonside 0-4-0 that was rebuilt in the early 20th century using spares off of several other Victorian era engines that were withdrawn. Around the time of the grouping, his little industrial railway ended up bought out by the GWR, but he was then sold off at the first excuse because converting him to GWR standards would basically mean completely rebuilding him again, and they couldn't be bothered. That's how Topham got him on the cheap.
I always enjoy your quirky customs. Keep up the good work! I snagged a Hornby Great Northern recently, going to paint him up in GNR livery. That is (I guess) my quirky custom project.
Yo who else feels like Percy is an American 440 saddle tank that was then modified to have one of the doughnuts removed and then was painted in a weird green color and then was shipped off to sodor after working at many different companies
When did they lose their license? I thought they stopped because they didn't want to market to the younger demographic due to the small parts or something
Kind of interesting This is what Hornby's doing nowadays With there Original Thomas and friends molds without faces Surprising that this model actually has nem couplers, Instead of the slightly larger couplers they usually come with and this has a Front coupler!
if you ever get interested into it, try checking out some lionel stuff, you could possibly use it as bigger scale of engines for your layout, or use their narrow gauge models (which fit on HO/OO track)
You Know.. This Model Is Now On My Bucket Lists To Make On Tinkercad! (I’m Making Henry Gordon And Salty At The Moment, And Im Also Rebuilding A Percy Model So You Can Fit A Motor In It ^^’ It’s Hard Work)
Just as a bit of useful knowledge for the future, I'm fairly sure when you're running in engines, they should only be run light-engine, so no pulling or pushing any rolling stock. I may be wrong but I'm fairly sure it can put undue stress on the motor before it's fully run in. Of course since this is a second hand engine its not so important, but I figured I'd let you know for future reference!
Wait, did you say something about Bachman not being able to make Thomas stuff anymore, at 2:44 and the part where you said "W- Wow, thanks Mattel, you really don't do more good decisions anymore"?
Always interests me that the Non-Percy comes with a functioning front coupler.
And yet Bachmann still release Percy without one.
Yeah Bachmann, what gives?

Ah yes. Back before Bachmann UK sold Thomas products. How they got their hands on the tooling still boggles me.
Love to think of this as an origin Percy before coming to Sodor.
Bachmann's Percy was originally a shunter for a shroom farm, the P in Percy stands for Psilocybin.

This reminds me of an AU I had where Percy is a modified GWR shunter, like how Thomas is a modified E2
New from Hornby, the all new "I can't believe it's not percy!" caterpillar!
Lol! I always wanted you to do an vid on the Junior choo choo Twain line from Bachmann!
5:06 “Don’t call me dirty Percy !”
AHHHHHHH
I always enjoy your quirky customs. Keep up the good work!

Trainboy go 3+ months without making/reviewing a Percy model: impossible XD

percy: before sodor
Just realized I have been watching the end of the video and was waiting for it to start 😅
Yo who else feels like Percy is an American 440 saddle tank that was then modified to have one of the doughnuts removed and then was painted in a weird green color and then was shipped off to sodor after working at many different companies
Awesome video! Whether I can find one of these or get a Peckett involved, I hope to be able to do my final Percy soon.

5:06 "let's hope he's not a filthy engine" Me: "or a Dirty Percy."
DoNt CaLl Me DiRtY pErCy
Percy actually looks natural like this
Bachmann tried to weather this engine before it was even packaged
5:06 Atleast you didn't call him dirty...
I found the ''Running In'' when you put the tomy/early trackmaster percy near the layout it looked like the other Percy just was shocked and ran away.
*inhales* DIRTY PERCY
AU Percy is my jam and this guy looks awesome! Pre-Sodor look all the way!
Awesome video, Trainboy.
Glad you enjoyed it bro! :)
@@ItsTrainBoy How do you apply custom faces to the engines?
@@ItsTrainBoy ha, I especially liked the part where you basically "broke" him in and he ran over Sir Topham.

Call me crazy, but I love this model locomotive, it’s like Bachmann had their own head cannon back story for our favorite little green caterpillar.
Nice

Bachman At it’s cheapest. Great job!

I love how fucking angry you sound at the beginning LOL
Ok how did I predict Trainboy working on Percy
He's always working on a Percy model in some shape or form lol
Great video dude 🙂👍

Bro that running in footage made Percy look like he was on ketamine
Trainboy have you ever heard of the first-ever Thomas merchandise called the Mikado Percy set from 1965
I'd like to this this Percy runs the loch layout with Athena

Don’t know why but I got a kick out of seeing the gwr Percy pulling a tomey Percy.
I'm so glad Origins Percy came out

Now thus reminds me of Percy Pre Sodor. How much did u get it for? I want one now
So what you're saying, TB, is you like Onions.
Cause layers.
Hello, is it possible to add a front coupler to the original Bachman Percy to shunt trucks? Thanks!
How did you remove the smokebox door?
Likely it was easily removable as it was probably friction fit
^^ Just a little push from an exacto
Oh okay
I really cannot seem to find these it’s like they are used for customs 🙃
Maybe that’s Percy before Sodor.
How did you makes the Eyes for your models?
GWR 311, Percy before he was brought to the NWR as their 6th engine
Percn’t
Please for the love of God use a brake van next time you are killing my soul. Great vid!
have you ever thought about making a model of Gordon?
Wait, did you say something about Bachman not being able to make Thomas stuff anymore, at 2:44 and the part where you said "W- Wow, thanks Mattel, you really don't do more good decisions anymore"?
Woah that’s a real lying interesting reskin
You still have the jack frost Percy? I thought you sold it.
What’d you use to fit the face?
A white sticky-tak so the eyes can be moved around!
Dare: Make the first EVER sketch of Thomas into a model (him when he was a j20 or somethin man i forgor 💀💀)
