I love how the theme slowly reforms from a disjointed blend of Aerith and Jenova, becoming more and more of Jenova until that’s all that remains. It becomes less and less mournful, and more and more angry and furious as grief turns to rage. The music helps you transform pain into retribution. But it remains tinged with pain throughout.
I cried during this fight because it was so well done. The transitions, the way they manage to use everybody from the party to kill her, like... Aerith died! So, instead of only 3 people, EVERYONE WENT TO KICK JENOVA'S ASS. And with this theme, it was so perfect!
Why are you crying? Aerith isn't dead. Cloud entered the whisper wall alone. He was the only one who saw the path where he prevented her death. Cloud was the only one with no limit break. No reason. She's not dead.
I just finished the Rebirth last night. Cried uncontrollably during this fight. A flurry of emotions hit me. What an epic boss fight. Loved every minute of it.

@@AgentNoun because the entire game is about fracturing timelines, which wasn't present in the original story, hence the point of this entirely new narrative branch, Sephiroth himself seems to be from the AC point of time (hence the one black wing in his normal look) and tells Cloud to his face that timelines are branching off and that he's trying to merge them back together to gain enough power to alter his own fate, also Cloud is not always the POV, Zack is multiple times, a person Cloud thinks is dead, and wouldn't have any reason to think otherwise.
beat the game yesterday. Honestly was so confused but the whole gang working together to save Aerith was insane. It was so tear jerking to see everyone confront their absolute worst moments in life. Kodus to SE for designing such epic ending sequences and fights. 82 hours well spent, looking forward to seeing part 3

Not fond of the direction they are taking especially since cloud can see Aerith and it makes him seem delusional (especially when he made the fake scenario of himself saving Aerith), and how Aerith is dead but also not dead. But yeah the music was a masterclass
someone told me that him saving Aerith was another timeline and that he's living in both of them which is why he can see the fucked up sky but the others can't but ngl.... I was more confused than sad at her death at the beginning

You guys must have not really kept up with the story. We did beat the whisperers, which is what sephiroth wanted. But if you remember he absorbed them all and now is using them to manipulate what he wants. The whispers we see in rebirth, black with the purple orbs are sephiroth controlled ones and the white ones are being seen as Aerith’s guided ones. Yeah I know, WTF right.

Cried my way through this boss fight. As a really young kid, maybe younger than 10 even, I was always so miffed we didn't get the 'cool JENOVA music' during the JENOVA fight after Aerith's death... Replaying the game much older, I sobbed from her death, Cloud's speech, then right through the fight when her theme was playing. Now this masterpiece is a perfect blend of the two, this music is absolutely speaking to me I s2g 🥲

From the way the music plays to how the entire boss battle up to the ending makes you keep thinking what happened days after completion: The boss may be Jenova “Lifeclinger”, but this entire experience was more like “LifeCHANGER!!” Not a day goes by where I don’t think about Part 3!!
Hear, hear. As soon as I finished Rebirth, I wanted more. Even after the 100% run, I wanted more. What an amazing piece of art. Consider this, the original is one of the most significant games ever made, and I'm 100% certain it won't get a remake like this ever again. We truly are living in a wondrous age, and I'm so grateful we get to experience this. It's been over 20 years since FF game brought feelings like this in me.
01:18 this part hits heavy to me, and I never really cared for Aerith when I played the OG back in the day. But this part of the song and Cloud holding her. Good lord…… not sure how I feel about the ending still trying to process but I always try to be positive regardless

You are probably right! But what I'm concerned about is Tifa's state of mind. She's more devastated about Aerith's death than anybody else. She played right into Sephiroth's hands and now she can be used against us.
I hope not. Aerith should help Cloud accept her death at a seperate point, and Tifa should help Cloud open up and repair his mind about the past. Unrelated trauma. One is Cloud's trauma with Sephiroth in nibelheim and Zack's death (tifa), and the other is the jenova cells influence on him and sephiroth's pull (aerith). Tifa already got the guidance she needed to help Cloud in part 3, remember the Gongaga reactor. She has been to the place where her and Cloud will be in part 3, she doesn't need someone to guide her, she can just guide Cloud herself. That was the purpose of them adding it so early but making it just Tifa without Cloud in this game The whole Mideel thing is a very personal moment between Cloud and Tifa, I will be very dissapointed if Aerith is injected into it. Like imagine if Tifa fell down into Aerith's church with Cloud after the airbuster fight and tagged along for their date and everything, or if Tifa came with Cloud and Aerith for that emotional sequence after temple of the ancients in this game. I think it'd be a bit weird if Aerith was there for the Mideel sequence
@@winspyywhat I commented on has nothing to do with the instruments. It's like a transition that doesn't exist in the original FF7 OST, but exists in FF5's Battle on the Big Bridge. That is not just some random track, it's one of the more famous battle tracks in the entire series. You find the song in multiple of the mainline FF games, whenever you fight Gilgamesh, it's like his battle theme. Similar to how chocobo has a theme.
I noticed it too! It sounds most like the the version on the first Black Mages album, so I kept expecting it to transition to Battle of the Big Bridge lol It also sounds like a different section of it at around 19:34 where the theme normally takes a long note and rest, but goes into a few more notes. I wonder if it's intentionally trying to evoke Battle of the Big Bridge, or if the person doing the guitar arrangement was trying to add a riff and didn't mean to summon Gilgamesh
Well problem spot there is Cloud can in fact see the "Rift". And recall, when Aerith died/didn't die. He was shrouded in the Rainbow-effect. The effect seemingly being a sign of World Travel occurring (Sephiroth opening portals with the effect, Aerith coming out of a portal with the effect, Zack being dragged around with the effect following him). So Cloud was rapidly crossing between worlds during that whole sequence. So, IMHO it's probably that Aerith is in fact alive, and the Aerith Cloud sees is actually her. But Cloud is somewhat "torn" between two worlds. He's in a superposition. Physically he's in the "Prime Timeline" (I assume this because it's the world and version of cloud Sephiroth keeps picking on), but mentally, Cloud torn to the world where he deflected Sephiroth's attack. Thus, why he sees and can interact with Aerith and can see the "Rift". He's seeing into a world that has its days numbered (which seems to be the signal that The Rift brings cosmologically to "Reflections" of Gaia. We don't see the Jenova mental effect any time on seeing Aerith beyond the single occurrence, but we don't know what that effect is. Aerith's behavior and all the rest of the evidence is indicating that the Aerith cloud is talking with and seeing at the end is her, just a version of her who survived. But the Jenova static effect in the one scene is supposed to make you doubt. Maybe it isn't Aerith who Jenova/Sephiroth is tampering with in Cloud's Perception. But maybe the others? In a timeline where Aerith Survives, the party should be happy and whatnot no? Yet Cloud doesn't seemingly notice that the party is downtrodden. Maybe what Sephiroth is doing is further widening the crack in perception Cloud has to further steep his mind in the world that Aerith survived? Using the world's existence and tuning Cloud's perception to it, all until they reach the Northern Crater where they tear it away and convince Cloud it was all in his head the whole time (versus Zack's existence separate of this whole thing proving to us the Audience that that is indeed not the case)
@@Alovon I don't know man, before this whole battle the Ancients revealed it's exaclty what Jenova does and why they were defeated. Also the on the ship where Sephiroth says Jenova can ben those you hate, those you love. After the fight it all has such a creepy feeling and all feels so wrong. She also acts and looks really weird. Cloud turning into a dark knight, going to bring Sephiroth the black materia and Aerith acting like it's all okay, nothing bad happened, go Cloud. She's also talking about praying to defeat Meteor to save the planet, while just before when it was really her praying she only prayed for het friends to be safe. Something is really really wrong It has to be Jenova, and Cloud is more messed up than ever. In part 3 when it's going to be revealed who Cloud really is and he finds out what really happened here...it's going to hit so hard

We have our information given, all the info is consistent to some degree. And the big lynch pin for why Cloud is likely actually seeing Aeirth is...well...NANAKI FUCKING SENSED HER! That can't be Jenova because Jenova isn't in, nor can really enter the Lifestream (at least not yet in this reality). Sephiroth may be running around, but his will supplants Jenova's (to the extent where its implied that Jenova may not like it). So the entity/thing Cloud is seeing is the same that Nanaki is sensing, So that just...*is* Aerith.

Jenova doesn't have to be in the lifestream to simulate Aerith. And all the hints and timing of that info of Jenova doing that without it happening, i don't think so. But yeah Red senses her, but really her? Maybe it was just bad writing for the ending cgi. But they do nothing without reason. But if this really is lifestream Aerith it shouldn't feel so wrong and creepy. Also weird she lets Cloud be so messed up and it even lookd like she wants Cloud to be this messed us by pretending all is fine. But then it's weird Jenova would say goodbye at the end. Either it's all in Clouds mind (but Red) or she's lifestream Aerith (but why so creepy?), or she's Jenova letting Cloud go to the north and mess him up to the max until the party breaks. The devs are probably going to have a blast with all the theories and discussion the comming years.
Square Enix have done all it on purpose, the theories are not too far-fetched and almost all of them can be realized, but the theory that makes the player (with Cloud) believe that Aerith (who is Jehova) can still be saved is brilliant, because the player becomes as crazy as Cloud. Anyway, i can't wait for part 3 and i'm sure Zack will be very important, personally i'd like to see an evil Cloud vs Zack.

The only thing that puts this debate to rest, at least for me, is the fact, that only cloud can see her and the rift in the sky. So it is Aeris, sending a broken, and breaking even more, cloud off, to fight sephi at the north crater, while she's getting the magic holy on its way.

All through the game Jenova cells are projecting Sephiroth to Cloud, yet no one else (in most cases) sees Sephiroth there at a,,. I think it could go either way; it's either Jenova messing with Cloud's head to make him mentally break down, or it really is Aerith that is existing in Cloud's reality only, because Cloud was split between the mixed worlds during the final fights (as apparent by the tear in the sky, and as was suggested by Sephiroth; combining the world's, and then sending them back with newfound reality) that somehow will serve the purpose of either Jenova or Sephiroth. I personally believe Jenova is behind all of this, more so than Sephiroth, and I think Sephiroth is the one who's also getting played by Jenova.

Beautiful theme. Should’ve been a 1-Phase boss fight with only the first phase playing. Felt her death was overshadowed by the endless phases of boss fights that followed. Bad pacing to end but her theme absolutely brought out all the emotions.
This banger of a boss fight should have been the last one. If they really wanted a grindy boss rush, then they should have placed it right before the iconic death scene. That boss rush served no purpose other than “big explosions and fight to the finish line,” which should not have followed a death scene. Jenova should have been the only fight after Aerith
I mean Jenova's phases worked, but everything after that is...yeah, the whole Sephiroth fight was dragged out for way too long. Normal Sephiroth, then Sephiroth Reborn + Bahamut, and then Normal Sephiroth AGAIN?! Did someone total up the total number of phases this boss has?
I genuinely think that Lifeclinger was a work of art. The entire fight is nearly perfect. I would've disabled combat banter for the fight, though. Have the characters be dead silent and laser-focused on the infuriating task at hand. Silently coordinating and pummeling the shit out of the loathsome creature before them. Cut to the moping-around-the-pool scene. Have it play out exactly as it did. Give us the first hint that Cloud's delusional. As they walk out, "Sephiroth" interrupts. You think you could just walk away from here? Think again.
@@ElysaraCh What's strange to me is that it was disabled for the Dyne fight, but they didn't think to do it for this. That said, having watched the sequence a couple of times, I don't think it's *just* Cloud being delulu; from all the prior setup in previous scenes, the rainbow effect, Sephiroth's sword being a totally different position between shots etc., there's definitely 2 timelines, one in which he stopped Sephiroth, but there's Jenova headache stuff in there too and it's presented in such a messy way that it's confusing as hell. They no doubt did that on purpose as bait to get people "theorising" about it, and in combination with the gratuitous fanservice and tryna keep track of all the alternate worlds it's just...painful, and not in a good way.
I mean this is objectively the best Jenova remix accept no substitutes, but I can literally hear the track they COULD have made, that had Aerith's theme as the front melody and Jenova's synth bleeps as the bassline
nah, the scene was perfect. a narrative "yoink!" to laugh at the people who were SO SURE that she wasn't going to die this time, and we're left with an incredibly complex flurry of emotions even as veterans who knew this was coming and processed this 25 years ago. and using Cloud's complete detachment from reality as a very core and very serious plot device this time around. the boss gauntlet may have been a little too long, but the scene itself was a masterwork of storytelling.

@@0saintclark0 the confusion is intended, and the payoff is waiting for us in part 3. They've leaned much harder into Cloud's trauma and inability to comprehend reality, so much so that he can't accept what he saw happen right in front of him. Mideel is going to be a sledgehammer for newcomers.
@0saintclark0 I don't think so - at worst it's deferred till part 3. I do think there are some things that could have been done better. I would've personally disabled the battle banter during Jenova Lifeclinger, and either added the "moping by the lake" scene in between Jenova and sephiroth, or just outright removed the Bizarro Sephiroth part of the boss gauntlet. Other than that, the scene was amazing.
That is being saved for the final part. Along with dropping her in the water. Pretty certain of that. That being said though, they totally changed the feel of the scene to serve the story later. But to loose out on that stuff in the moment is a shame.
I think we see flashes of cloud saying his speech in the main "universe". And I believe this scene will be granted to us (and aerith "funerals" too) in the next game, perhaps when Tifa will heal Cloud's mind in the life stream.
You can actually see Cloud mouthing his original dialogue, we just dont hear it. Which is pretty clear we are going to get it at another time. Same with Aerith talking in the woods when Cloud is barely conscious.

He’s known for being knowledgeable and having long discussions about what Remake might entail. After Remake came out, in collaboration with another YT channel called Easy Allies, (there was like 3/4 people in the discussion) it went on for several hours about predictions and how multiverse timelines and crazy shit was being predicted. This might be wrong but I think Max predicted the title of Rebirth before it was even announced. He did this by going off speculation about Sephiroth using time travel and what not to change Destiny. Basically, Max has predicted several things correctly/ on the right track with differences. Hence, that’s why everyone is taking what he’s saying at face value. He knows a great deal about the story and people are willing to listen. His claims after Remake were viewed as crazy and tinfoil crap. But he got major points right when stuff got proven in Rebirth. The point about Zack being brought back to fight with cloud and other stuff like this. The Easy Allies discussion with Max was throwing some crazy ideas. Max has essentially gotten a following from his predictions/discussions. He spent like 6+ hours going bit by bit through the ending of Rebirth after he beat it. Now, with Rebirth, Max thinks that there’s no two universes anymore and Aerith dies still. With jenova being the one to mess with Cloud. Essentially, Jenova using Aerith’s body to make cloud crazier while disregarding the idea of her being alive in another universe. This has thrown the community upside down. I certainly don’t like the Jerith theory completely. Parts of it yes. But… oh well.
@@TacoLex The whole (current) remake series is to appeal to both fans of the OG and bring in new ones without changing the storyline TOO much... there's going to be a LOT of fanservice involved... especially for the older fans. Did he predict Aerith having her chance at joining the fight against Sephiroth after her death? It's likely even Biggs, Wedge and Jessie are gonna have their spiritual forms return to involve themselves in a big fight, or focus on them for a bit even lending their help during the whole Lifestream event at the end of the game... perhaps even untainted Sephiroth's spiritual being will join in and lend a hand as well. Maybe the next game will be called "Redemption" or even "Retribution" lol... these sorts of "theories" are not hard to come across and prove when they get enough traction... I think you're putting too much weight into Max being some kind of soothsayer of new FFVII lore. Especially if the guy is already skimming through fan theory discussions on social media to begin with.
@@kurimiaisukurimu Some Vtuber content creator who makes lukewarm "reaction videos" to videogames and their lore, says "this is weird" a lot after nearly every sentence... the fact is this part of the soundtrack has so many leitmotifs of other parts of the whole OG soundtrack mixed in that he's only focusing on one part of it to make his theories more believable. Take it with a grain of salt. I made a similar theory about two weeks ago (that Cloud is seeing Jenova's illusions in the form of Aerith) and then ditched those theories after talking to a bunch of other (more) experienced lore fans of the game. I think he's been picking up and adopting other peoples theories on the subject but laying claim to them as his own without really going into much detail about it all - and because of his populatity, it spreads faster to a wider audience.

The original game already happened, what’s done is done, they can take it in new directions now, as they have already been doing. Zack is now alive, whose death also had deep consequences. They had to kill Aerith in this one to pull at everyone’s heart strings and nostalgia and they introduced new higher stakes specifically so they can give an excuse for the thing people have wanted since the original game came out. The beauty of an adaptation is that you can make changes just because, whatever changes they make should be analyzed based upon the piece of media itself and not the context of the adaptation. If Aerith coming back would serve the story positively then it should happen, whether it will or not I actually don’t know but the developer has said the remake is a chance for them to change things they wanted to.

You're stating your speculation as fact. Jenova is able to appear as other people, but she's never had the ability to only appear to one person while being invisible to everyone else. Further disproving your theory is the fact that Red XIII senses Aerith's presence. There's more evidence to suggest Cloud's seeing a blending of the world where he 'saved' Aerith and the prime Rebirth world, hence why he sees the cracked sky that no one else can see. Unless you think Jenova is also the cracked sky lmao
@@stopbeingignorant my interpretation is that Aerith in the final CGI moment next to the Tiny Bronco is not an Aerith from another reality, it's either Cloud's fucked up brain with repressed emotions and memories or its Jenova messing with him. He can't accept he didn't save Aerith. Evidence of this is that in the Sleeping Forest before the Lost Capital, Aerith tries to discourage Cloud from going after Sephiroth, asking him to 'leave it to her'. Yet in the final CGI cut-scene, Aerith is basically like "You promise?!!" when Cloud says he'll stop Sephiroth. She acts so weirdly during those moments, and it's not just bad writing as the rest of the characters are completely on point. Cloud is just messed up, being unable to stop Aerith's death in basically 'all' realities. Even when Tifa is running up to Cloud/ Aeirth and Sephiroth after she's just been stabbed, she sees two version of events represented by the distortion, fuzzy lens effect. She sees Aerith is dead in both realities here, one where there is blood, one where there isn't any blood. It's like even in the reality where Cloud 'saves' Aerith by stopping Sephiroth's sword, she dies anyway. Sephiroth has caused a 'confluence' of all these points in time to draw out as many 'bad vibes' as possible here, resulting in Aerith still dying.
Waited so long for this moment, but honestly was a bit disappointed in how it was handled seemed so rushed, and had major issues with the boss afterwards so I stopped playing 😂. Game is still amazing but clearly this was the weakest part of it.

Nah I loved the finale. The final boss just kept getting crazier and crazier. I didn't think they'd be able to top the final boss from. Remake and somehow they did. I was also expecting something different to happen with Aerith. Glad they still managed to surprise me anyway

I just finished the Rebirth last night. Cried uncontrollably during this fight. A flurry of emotions hit me. What an epic boss fight. Loved every minute of it.

@@AgentNoun because the entire game is about fracturing timelines, which wasn't present in the original story, hence the point of this entirely new narrative branch, Sephiroth himself seems to be from the AC point of time (hence the one black wing in his normal look) and tells Cloud to his face that timelines are branching off and that he's trying to merge them back together to gain enough power to alter his own fate, also Cloud is not always the POV, Zack is multiple times, a person Cloud thinks is dead, and wouldn't have any reason to think otherwise.

beat the game yesterday. Honestly was so confused but the whole gang working together to save Aerith was insane. It was so tear jerking to see everyone confront their absolute worst moments in life. Kodus to SE for designing such epic ending sequences and fights. 82 hours well spent, looking forward to seeing part 3
I knew Aerith was going to die but started crying at 4:12 realizing that we won't see her with the team no more

Not fond of the direction they are taking especially since cloud can see Aerith and it makes him seem delusional (especially when he made the fake scenario of himself saving Aerith), and how Aerith is dead but also not dead.

Cried my way through this boss fight. As a really young kid, maybe younger than 10 even, I was always so miffed we didn't get the 'cool JENOVA music' during the JENOVA fight after Aerith's death... Replaying the game much older, I sobbed from her death, Cloud's speech, then right through the fight when her theme was playing. Now this masterpiece is a perfect blend of the two, this music is absolutely speaking to me I s2g 🥲

Hear, hear. As soon as I finished Rebirth, I wanted more. Even after the 100% run, I wanted more. What an amazing piece of art. Consider this, the original is one of the most significant games ever made, and I'm 100% certain it won't get a remake like this ever again. We truly are living in a wondrous age, and I'm so grateful we get to experience this. It's been over 20 years since FF game brought feelings like this in me.
01:18 this part hits heavy to me, and I never really cared for Aerith when I played the OG back in the day. But this part of the song and Cloud holding her. Good lord…… not sure how I feel about the ending still trying to process but I always try to be positive regardless

You are probably right! But what I'm concerned about is Tifa's state of mind. She's more devastated about Aerith's death than anybody else. She played right into Sephiroth's hands and now she can be used against us.
I hope not. Aerith should help Cloud accept her death at a seperate point, and Tifa should help Cloud open up and repair his mind about the past. Unrelated trauma. One is Cloud's trauma with Sephiroth in nibelheim and Zack's death (tifa), and the other is the jenova cells influence on him and sephiroth's pull (aerith). Tifa already got the guidance she needed to help Cloud in part 3, remember the Gongaga reactor. She has been to the place where her and Cloud will be in part 3, she doesn't need someone to guide her, she can just guide Cloud herself. That was the purpose of them adding it so early but making it just Tifa without Cloud in this game
The whole Mideel thing is a very personal moment between Cloud and Tifa, I will be very dissapointed if Aerith is injected into it. Like imagine if Tifa fell down into Aerith's church with Cloud after the airbuster fight and tagged along for their date and everything, or if Tifa came with Cloud and Aerith for that emotional sequence after temple of the ancients in this game. I think it'd be a bit weird if Aerith was there for the Mideel sequence

@@winspyywhat I commented on has nothing to do with the instruments. It's like a transition that doesn't exist in the original FF7 OST, but exists in FF5's Battle on the Big Bridge. That is not just some random track, it's one of the more famous battle tracks in the entire series. You find the song in multiple of the mainline FF games, whenever you fight Gilgamesh, it's like his battle theme. Similar to how chocobo has a theme.
I noticed it too! It sounds most like the the version on the first Black Mages album, so I kept expecting it to transition to Battle of the Big Bridge lol It also sounds like a different section of it at around 19:34 where the theme normally takes a long note and rest, but goes into a few more notes. I wonder if it's intentionally trying to evoke Battle of the Big Bridge, or if the person doing the guitar arrangement was trying to add a riff and didn't mean to summon Gilgamesh

Well problem spot there is Cloud can in fact see the "Rift". And recall, when Aerith died/didn't die. He was shrouded in the Rainbow-effect. The effect seemingly being a sign of World Travel occurring (Sephiroth opening portals with the effect, Aerith coming out of a portal with the effect, Zack being dragged around with the effect following him). So Cloud was rapidly crossing between worlds during that whole sequence.
So, IMHO it's probably that Aerith is in fact alive, and the Aerith Cloud sees is actually her. But Cloud is somewhat "torn" between two worlds. He's in a superposition.
Physically he's in the "Prime Timeline" (I assume this because it's the world and version of cloud Sephiroth keeps picking on), but mentally, Cloud torn to the world where he deflected Sephiroth's attack. Thus, why he sees and can interact with Aerith and can see the "Rift". He's seeing into a world that has its days numbered (which seems to be the signal that The Rift brings cosmologically to "Reflections" of Gaia.
We don't see the Jenova mental effect any time on seeing Aerith beyond the single occurrence, but we don't know what that effect is. Aerith's behavior and all the rest of the evidence is indicating that the Aerith cloud is talking with and seeing at the end is her, just a version of her who survived. But the Jenova static effect in the one scene is supposed to make you doubt. Maybe it isn't Aerith who Jenova/Sephiroth is tampering with in Cloud's Perception. But maybe the others?
In a timeline where Aerith Survives, the party should be happy and whatnot no? Yet Cloud doesn't seemingly notice that the party is downtrodden. Maybe what Sephiroth is doing is further widening the crack in perception Cloud has to further steep his mind in the world that Aerith survived? Using the world's existence and tuning Cloud's perception to it, all until they reach the Northern Crater where they tear it away and convince Cloud it was all in his head the whole time (versus Zack's existence separate of this whole thing proving to us the Audience that that is indeed not the case)
@@Alovon I don't know man, before this whole battle the Ancients revealed it's exaclty what Jenova does and why they were defeated. Also the on the ship where Sephiroth says Jenova can ben those you hate, those you love. After the fight it all has such a creepy feeling and all feels so wrong. She also acts and looks really weird. Cloud turning into a dark knight, going to bring Sephiroth the black materia and Aerith acting like it's all okay, nothing bad happened, go Cloud. She's also talking about praying to defeat Meteor to save the planet, while just before when it was really her praying she only prayed for het friends to be safe.
Something is really really wrong
It has to be Jenova, and Cloud is more messed up than ever. In part 3 when it's going to be revealed who Cloud really is and he finds out what really happened here...it's going to hit so hard

That can't be Jenova because Jenova isn't in, nor can really enter the Lifestream (at least not yet in this reality). Sephiroth may be running around, but his will supplants Jenova's (to the extent where its implied that Jenova may not like it).
So the entity/thing Cloud is seeing is the same that Nanaki is sensing, So that just...*is* Aerith.

Jenova doesn't have to be in the lifestream to simulate Aerith. And all the hints and timing of that info of Jenova doing that without it happening, i don't think so.
But yeah Red senses her, but really her? Maybe it was just bad writing for the ending cgi. But they do nothing without reason. But if this really is lifestream Aerith it shouldn't feel so wrong and creepy. Also weird she lets Cloud be so messed up and it even lookd like she wants Cloud to be this messed us by pretending all is fine. But then it's weird Jenova would say goodbye at the end.
Either it's all in Clouds mind (but Red) or she's lifestream Aerith (but why so creepy?), or she's Jenova letting Cloud go to the north and mess him up to the max until the party breaks.
The devs are probably going to have a blast with all the theories and discussion the comming years.

Square Enix have done all it on purpose, the theories are not too far-fetched and almost all of them can be realized, but the theory that makes the player (with Cloud) believe that Aerith (who is Jehova) can still be saved is brilliant, because the player becomes as crazy as Cloud. Anyway, i can't wait for part 3 and i'm sure Zack will be very important, personally i'd like to see an evil Cloud vs Zack.

The only thing that puts this debate to rest, at least for me, is the fact, that only cloud can see her and the rift in the sky. So it is Aeris, sending a broken, and breaking even more, cloud off, to fight sephi at the north crater, while she's getting the magic holy on its way.

All through the game Jenova cells are projecting Sephiroth to Cloud, yet no one else (in most cases) sees Sephiroth there at a,,. I think it could go either way; it's either Jenova messing with Cloud's head to make him mentally break down, or it really is Aerith that is existing in Cloud's reality only, because Cloud was split between the mixed worlds during the final fights (as apparent by the tear in the sky, and as was suggested by Sephiroth; combining the world's, and then sending them back with newfound reality) that somehow will serve the purpose of either Jenova or Sephiroth. I personally believe Jenova is behind all of this, more so than Sephiroth, and I think Sephiroth is the one who's also getting played by Jenova.

Beautiful theme. Should’ve been a 1-Phase boss fight with only the first phase playing. Felt her death was overshadowed by the endless phases of boss fights that followed. Bad pacing to end but her theme absolutely brought out all the emotions.
This banger of a boss fight should have been the last one. If they really wanted a grindy boss rush, then they should have placed it right before the iconic death scene.
That boss rush served no purpose other than “big explosions and fight to the finish line,” which should not have followed a death scene. Jenova should have been the only fight after Aerith

I genuinely think that Lifeclinger was a work of art. The entire fight is nearly perfect. I would've disabled combat banter for the fight, though. Have the characters be dead silent and laser-focused on the infuriating task at hand. Silently coordinating and pummeling the shit out of the loathsome creature before them.
Cut to the moping-around-the-pool scene. Have it play out exactly as it did. Give us the first hint that Cloud's delusional. As they walk out, "Sephiroth" interrupts. You think you could just walk away from here? Think again.
@@ElysaraCh What's strange to me is that it was disabled for the Dyne fight, but they didn't think to do it for this.
That said, having watched the sequence a couple of times, I don't think it's *just* Cloud being delulu; from all the prior setup in previous scenes, the rainbow effect, Sephiroth's sword being a totally different position between shots etc., there's definitely 2 timelines, one in which he stopped Sephiroth, but there's Jenova headache stuff in there too and it's presented in such a messy way that it's confusing as hell. They no doubt did that on purpose as bait to get people "theorising" about it, and in combination with the gratuitous fanservice and tryna keep track of all the alternate worlds it's just...painful, and not in a good way.
I like the part where Aerith's theme "wins" over Jenova's theme but I feel like the battle is a bit too chaotic to really appreciate this song.

They completely ballsed up Aeriths death scene and it was overshadowed by the 20 phase boss fight that followed.
But this was beautiful.
nah, the scene was perfect. a narrative "yoink!" to laugh at the people who were SO SURE that she wasn't going to die this time, and we're left with an incredibly complex flurry of emotions even as veterans who knew this was coming and processed this 25 years ago. and using Cloud's complete detachment from reality as a very core and very serious plot device this time around.
the boss gauntlet may have been a little too long, but the scene itself was a masterwork of storytelling.

I do think there are some things that could have been done better. I would've personally disabled the battle banter during Jenova Lifeclinger, and either added the "moping by the lake" scene in between Jenova and sephiroth, or just outright removed the Bizarro Sephiroth part of the boss gauntlet.
Other than that, the scene was amazing.

That being said though, they totally changed the feel of the scene to serve the story later. But to loose out on that stuff in the moment is a shame.
I think we see flashes of cloud saying his speech in the main "universe". And I believe this scene will be granted to us (and aerith "funerals" too) in the next game, perhaps when Tifa will heal Cloud's mind in the life stream.

Maximillian Dood is a long time content creator for the fighting game community and an avid FF7 fan. He’s known for being knowledgeable and having long discussions about what Remake might entail. After Remake came out, in collaboration with another YT channel called Easy Allies, (there was like 3/4 people in the discussion) it went on for several hours about predictions and how multiverse timelines and crazy shit was being predicted. This might be wrong but I think Max predicted the title of Rebirth before it was even announced. He did this by going off speculation about Sephiroth using time travel and what not to change Destiny.
Basically, Max has predicted several things correctly/ on the right track with differences. Hence, that’s why everyone is taking what he’s saying at face value. He knows a great deal about the story and people are willing to listen. His claims after Remake were viewed as crazy and tinfoil crap. But he got major points right when stuff got proven in Rebirth. The point about Zack being brought back to fight with cloud and other stuff like this. The Easy Allies discussion with Max was throwing some crazy ideas. Max has essentially gotten a following from his predictions/discussions.
He spent like 6+ hours going bit by bit through the ending of Rebirth after he beat it.
Now, with Rebirth, Max thinks that there’s no two universes anymore and Aerith dies still. With jenova being the one to mess with Cloud. Essentially, Jenova using Aerith’s body to make cloud crazier while disregarding the idea of her being alive in another universe.
This has thrown the community upside down. I certainly don’t like the Jerith theory completely. Parts of it yes. But… oh well.
@@TacoLex The whole (current) remake series is to appeal to both fans of the OG and bring in new ones without changing the storyline TOO much... there's going to be a LOT of fanservice involved... especially for the older fans. Did he predict Aerith having her chance at joining the fight against Sephiroth after her death?
It's likely even Biggs, Wedge and Jessie are gonna have their spiritual forms return to involve themselves in a big fight, or focus on them for a bit even lending their help during the whole Lifestream event at the end of the game... perhaps even untainted Sephiroth's spiritual being will join in and lend a hand as well.
Maybe the next game will be called "Redemption" or even "Retribution" lol... these sorts of "theories" are not hard to come across and prove when they get enough traction... I think you're putting too much weight into Max being some kind of soothsayer of new FFVII lore.
Especially if the guy is already skimming through fan theory discussions on social media to begin with.
@@kurimiaisukurimu Some Vtuber content creator who makes lukewarm "reaction videos" to videogames and their lore, says "this is weird" a lot after nearly every sentence... the fact is this part of the soundtrack has so many leitmotifs of other parts of the whole OG soundtrack mixed in that he's only focusing on one part of it to make his theories more believable.
Take it with a grain of salt. I made a similar theory about two weeks ago (that Cloud is seeing Jenova's illusions in the form of Aerith) and then ditched those theories after talking to a bunch of other (more) experienced lore fans of the game. I think he's been picking up and adopting other peoples theories on the subject but laying claim to them as his own without really going into much detail about it all - and because of his populatity, it spreads faster to a wider audience.

@@Minarreal Square Enix has every right to be protective over their OSTs. And why not? They fucken smack harder than a drunken stepdad after a bender. I'm all for content creation rights, but unless you have the explicit permission of the rights owner, this shit shouldn't be live. That's the legal and rightful standpoint on their work. We're not in any position to challenge that. Otherwise the composers would take the Mick Gordon approach and tell creators to use his version and not the official cut.
Usually "music" uploads are safer if they include the gameplay they were captured from. Most ffxiv music uploads are like this

@@cristopherflores236 you have to look at it from the developers perspective. The original game already happened, what’s done is done, they can take it in new directions now, as they have already been doing. Zack is now alive, whose death also had deep consequences. They had to kill Aerith in this one to pull at everyone’s heart strings and nostalgia and they introduced new higher stakes specifically so they can give an excuse for the thing people have wanted since the original game came out. The beauty of an adaptation is that you can make changes just because, whatever changes they make should be analyzed based upon the piece of media itself and not the context of the adaptation. If Aerith coming back would serve the story positively then it should happen, whether it will or not I actually don’t know but the developer has said the remake is a chance for them to change things they wanted to.
So if she's coming back, what's the point of her dying??

@@jenn5628 just like clouds “ptsd” wasn’t that at all but rather him seeing into other worlds. Aerith needed to die to connect with herselves. And since cloud created a world where he saved her, indicated by the rainbow effect when he knocked sephiroths sword away one version of Aerith is still alive and I presume will simply place herself back into the world at the end. Although obviously with a lot more video game bravado and drama than that.

You're stating your speculation as fact. Jenova is able to appear as other people, but she's never had the ability to only appear to one person while being invisible to everyone else. Further disproving your theory is the fact that Red XIII senses Aerith's presence. There's more evidence to suggest Cloud's seeing a blending of the world where he 'saved' Aerith and the prime Rebirth world, hence why he sees the cracked sky that no one else can see. Unless you think Jenova is also the cracked sky lmao

@@stopbeingignorant my interpretation is that Aerith in the final CGI moment next to the Tiny Bronco is not an Aerith from another reality, it's either Cloud's fucked up brain with repressed emotions and memories or its Jenova messing with him. He can't accept he didn't save Aerith.
Evidence of this is that in the Sleeping Forest before the Lost Capital, Aerith tries to discourage Cloud from going after Sephiroth, asking him to 'leave it to her'. Yet in the final CGI cut-scene, Aerith is basically like "You promise?!!" when Cloud says he'll stop Sephiroth. She acts so weirdly during those moments, and it's not just bad writing as the rest of the characters are completely on point. Cloud is just messed up, being unable to stop Aerith's death in basically 'all' realities.
Even when Tifa is running up to Cloud/ Aeirth and Sephiroth after she's just been stabbed, she sees two version of events represented by the distortion, fuzzy lens effect. She sees Aerith is dead in both realities here, one where there is blood, one where there isn't any blood. It's like even in the reality where Cloud 'saves' Aerith by stopping Sephiroth's sword, she dies anyway. Sephiroth has caused a 'confluence' of all these points in time to draw out as many 'bad vibes' as possible here, resulting in Aerith still dying.
If it was Jenova, she'd be infiltrating the party as if she had survived. Not acting like a ghost.

Waited so long for this moment, but honestly was a bit disappointed in how it was handled seemed so rushed, and had major issues with the boss afterwards so I stopped playing 😂. Game is still amazing but clearly this was the weakest part of it.

Nah I loved the finale. The final boss just kept getting crazier and crazier. I didn't think they'd be able to top the final boss from. Remake and somehow they did. I was also expecting something different to happen with Aerith. Glad they still managed to surprise me anyway
