I agree with this. It is not a terrible car if it is disassembled and redone in a correct manner. My non-expert opinion would be to take it down to "frame-off" and do this rare vehicle justice by creating a very nice resto mod out of it. But, since you do not seem to like Trans Am....I would say, just pass it on. Sadly, it's potential will never be realized.

The oil catch cans are useful on modern direct injection turbo engines. This mitigates the build up of coking deposits on the back side of the intake valves by filtering the blow by gases through the catch can first which are then recirculated into the intake runner. Deposits to the back side of the intake valves from the recirculated crank case gases is a major issue with direct injection gasoline engines.

I would take the LS for another car and then throw the original 350 or 400 back in it with the factory wiring harness. Since it is a bit rare might be nice to restore it back to stock. Could be worth a bit to the right buyer.
@@MrZenapher That maybe so. If there was someone with the skills and desire to save it, it might be possible. Then again it might not. The cost to replace the missing parts needed to restore it may indeed be too high. Just thought it might be worth a more in depth evaluation. But, you may be right.
Honestly just removing the AC and bs wiring improved things drastically lol. This is pretty cool. These sorts of projects require patience. Lots of folks don't have it.
But in all fairness these cars weren't that great from the factory....well as far as squeaks, rattles, handling, and performance anyways. The screaming chicken decal was ugly to but the 9 year me liked it back in 1979.

As far as the helpers on only one side.. I know Mopar used to put an extra leaf on one side to help with wheel hop/axle wrap. So, maybe that was the intention

I'm happy enough with the video I just wanted to mention it looks like a number 12 wire but spliced to a number 14 but yes you would still use the 1210 connector. My grandad uses a couple rubber snakes to keep birds from flying into the shop when the doors are open. Set em on the ground near the open shop doors and it keeps them scared away, he's done this at all his shops my whole life and I've never seen a bird fly into his shop. Kinda like little shop scarecrows.

Good tip on torch safety! Did a lot of work in local paper mills years ago, There was no 'hot work done in the last 1/2 hr before shift end. Fire prevention! Also had a man on fire watch for obvious reasons.
If the car needs a name, how about The Fire Bandit? Those helpers on the left side springs are probably there to prevent the springs from flexing during acceleration.
Put in a factory ws6 rear 4pt roll bar flea bay or something with have a take out if you're looking to paint the se package was that original turbo 301 car I believe they are factory turbo wheels great project
The catch can is to remove the oil from the PCV system before going back into the intake. It has nothing to do with keeping it off the track, there is no reason it would go there in the first place.
Those front tires, the Firestone Wilderness A/T, likely in 235/75r15, were discontinued in the mid '00s as a part of the largest tire recall ever with the Ford Explorer.
Like the safety tip. Lost my shop in 19 to a battery charger. No torch or welding. Went inside to grab lunch 50 feet away and came back and it was rolling.

I'm liking that Little Build. I'm with you put some floor pans in it hell put that hood back on it that was the best part I'd probably throw some square tubing in there enough to where I could open it up stepping it up a little bit maybe put some round bar around it so it'll hold in shape looks like it needed some outer rockers on it I find me a couple used seats those new seat covers over the front same color just fix the odds and ends on it that's a nice little car something fun for the weekends maybe a car show
17:37 I always check the TV cable bracket for the transmission, especially if it's been swapped to an Edelbroken. If it doesn't pull the perfect amount of cable, the slushbox will self destruct in -8,000 miles. (Also I check if the trans/bellhousing is perfectly straight or the flexplate will develop cracks)
I love seeing u having fun and enjoying ur self driving fast please do another episode with this car.this was my favorite episode great content mortske
My 92 Silverado I almost decided to do an LS swap on it, original TBI 5.7 was just worn, I ended up putting in a 91 c4 zr1 corvette engine in it, We had a wrecked vette we bought for scrap, ran, but to far gone to drive. The hardest part of that entire swap was trying to wire everything up, at first I thought it would be close to the same as the Silverado, it wasn't. That truck was much more powerful than it what it was. I traded that truck for a 96 GMC 3500 dully, I kinda wish I didn't, but I needed the dully for work. Just wish it was as easy on gas as my Suburban is. Old 454 and 4.11 gear loves fuel.
That oil pan looks like an LH8 Hummer H3 unit. Those are shorter than the factory truck pans and are commonly used in GMT400 or squarebody swaps. The bell housing on the H3 trans is different than other 4L60s, hence the mismatched oil pan bolt.
Could call it Grimus lol. I like it a great deal minus some of the obvious issue's. Definitely want to see it live on in whatever manner you could make possible, just looks like a fun ride! Great content as always!

I think it's been repainted and just a nice driver. Probably still worth a bit, especially since she rarely drives it. I've thought about making a video talking to her about it, but it would probably suck lol.
Ah, the old Jim Rockford tribute car trick. Now available in silver!
BTW the strap on the dash is called a 4-barrel strap😮 because when you hear the four-barrel kick in you hold on😮😊

I would take the LS for another car and then throw the original 350 or 400 back in it with the factory wiring harness. Since it is a bit rare might be nice to restore it back to stock. Could be worth a bit to the right buyer.
The money you would spend restoring this thing, you could buy a completed one, and a beater for winter.
This car is gone bud, unless the owner had sentimental value there’s no point restoring it
@@MrZenapher That maybe so. If there was someone with the skills and desire to save it, it might be possible. Then again it might not. The cost to replace the missing parts needed to restore it may indeed be too high. Just thought it might be worth a more in depth evaluation. But, you may be right.
The challenge: Can a car be built using nothing but things Mortske hates?
Definitely
@@MortskeRepair THEN DO IT SIR MORTICUS!!
Cragars?!
easy peasy
A ford?
Honestly just removing the AC and bs wiring improved things drastically lol. This is pretty cool. These sorts of projects require patience. Lots of folks don't have it.
It’s a shame that was a nice ass car at one time. Too bad people have hacked it up and destroyed it
But in all fairness these cars weren't that great from the factory....well as far as squeaks, rattles, handling, and performance anyways. The screaming chicken decal was ugly to but the 9 year me liked it back in 1979.
@@richardbaumgart2454 hey hey be nice. They may not have been the fastest cars stock , but you just can’t beat driving around with the t-tops off . In all fairness they can be made to go fast you just have to really strengthen 5he frame and do some o5her work just like any other car of the era
@@icantsaywhat yeah I had a '71 Camaro RS that I had running mid 11's but it was 100% solid, no rust, and no frame connectors! Living life on the edge lol...didn't handle...didn't stop, it looked nice.
Probably some young person learning the mechanics and hacking, some people shouldn't paint or do mechanics!
Camaro's firebirds Trans Am that share the same chassis and body Style as Trans-Am, it's just a more luxurious Firebird. all share the same chassis and body still first year of Camaro 67, first year of Firebird 67 , they're literally the same for decades. Great Pony cars!.
love the history video's

Call it the "Purple Heart" It has been through many battles and still has war wounds. Can it be restored to good health . . hmmm, maybe it should be parts donor. Good video! I found it very entertaining and insightful.
Glad you enjoyed it
Mortske Monday
You could probably have done a much shorter show on what was done right on this thing. I'm going to call it The Purple People Killer.
oh for sure!
A mortski don’t ever change, so what do you want to you do a great job nobody’s perfect I love your show keep pushing on
As far as the helpers on only one side.. I know Mopar used to put an extra leaf on one side to help with wheel hop/axle wrap. So, maybe that was the intention
Mortske Repair Friend i would like to see you save this rare Pontiac Trans Am, with the LS Swap, and fix her up the right way ,she would be a cool Project when done right 💪💪😃😃🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍👍👍👍
I recall the silver anniversary trans ams were very desirable back when they were just nice used cars.
I was watching one of your Silverado repairs when they got that big Muffler like that their 350 with all due respect love watching your show
I'm happy enough with the video I just wanted to mention it looks like a number 12 wire but spliced to a number 14 but yes you would still use the 1210 connector. They're awful big I think for thicker insulation wire. Lot of times I want something clean and I will trim 5strands off a number 12 wire and use it in a 14/16 butt splice
Glad to hear it, will do!
You said it best CHOP IT UP ! If not it could be a NICE build! 10th anniversary! 👍🏽 ive had my 88 10th anniversary RX-7, for 25 YEARS! 1 of 1500 ! 700 in usa , on registry page and other sites ,guess down to like 300-400 left as of 2022... Yes this is Entertaining for sure!!!😅

The Purple Nurple. Smoked the tires. Totally diggin it!!
That is the worst Flaming Duck I’ve ever seen, definitely a parts car, great video Mortske
Glad to hear it, will do
I recently acquired a 64 fairlane and immediately re-did the electrical under the hood - I found 171 zip ties under the hood. I used split nylon wiring loom wrapped with heat/abrasion resistant tape, and have just six zip ties now.
Hey Mortske: Not your worst buy of Muscle cars and it'll eun and drive with some success and it's Duff approved... From the home of PB Blaster and Permatex... Cleveland, Ohio,,,, Worth a few sammitches,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Hey mate, thanks
I know I don’t know much about mechanics but, it amazes me that you got that torch that close to the engine without catching something on fire , it being that close to gaseous vapors and all…
Nahhhhh
I like it, if only that purple paint would shine up! Great video as usual Mortske keep up the good work, funny when you give it some beans and duff looks at you like really.
Speaking of convertibles, I love it when it is like 40 degrees out and there is always that guy who has to drive around with the top down and all the windows rolled up. I think it is funny as hell.
I believe those wheels are prism, I have 2 sets of them 15x8 and 15x10, I have them under a Jeep XJ, they are popular for BMWs here in Iceland.
I use them for burnouts and I think that shitbird would make an awesome tireshredder with dual sushi slicers

Good tip on torch safety! Did a lot of work in local paper mills years ago, There was no 'hot work done in the last 1/2 hr before shift end. Fire prevention! Also had a man on fire watch for obvious reasons.
Heck ya
If the car needs a name, how about The Fire Bandit? Those helpers on the left side springs are probably there to prevent the springs from flexing during acceleration.
Put in a factory ws6 rear 4pt roll bar flea bay or something with have a take out if you're looking to paint the se package was that original turbo 301 car I believe they are factory turbo wheels great project

Hey buddy I had a 77 98 olds with a 350 V8 and 400 Turbo and it was Baby Blue. I love that old car and it had cruise control
The catch can is to remove the oil from the PCV system before going back into the intake. It has nothing to do with keeping it off the track, there is no reason it would go there in the first place.
Man that thing is a hot mess, love watching you knock out the issues one by one! And I am learning a bunch thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Name the car "Studio 54". It's everything about the 70's.
They scare me
Good safety Talk--along with a good watch. Dont be afraid to smile a little more.
The 1980 turbocharged v8 Indy pace car firebirds also had front and rear disc brakes. A friend of mine in high school had one for a couple years.
Mort, the Right Thing To Do is, sell this heap to Derek at Vice Grip Garage, so that he can make two MORE amusing videos, fixing everything wrong with it!
There's holes in the floor. First priority, put new wheels on it. Truly a man of my own heart😄
Very true!
That firebird put me mind of Monte Carlo I bought ls swapped sadly I didn’t pull mine home tried driving it home motor let go 3 miles from the house but I have harness block once I get $$$$ I’m going ls swap a good chassis
Hey mate, thanks
It runs and drives. That's all that matters. It doesn't matter how the guy got it done. He was probably having fun.
I love the guy that put this swap together!
Oh I can absolutely see why he didn't want to be there when you picked it up. What a piece of work.
Bahaha
Enjoyed your video. I bought a new "79 Trans Am with the 403 Olds. Nocturne blue with T-tops. Great car. Wish I still had it.
sweet
I like stock myself, to each his own, I'm all stock after 73 years. Still have my original teeth hair and body parts, but I do use a lot of additives. 😮😊
I love the idea of twin turbos! Be cool to see your take on it!
More to come!
48:42 daaannng son them TKO wipes make your hands all smooth, you know, like a baby's behind
they got in there nice and deep like and took the grease with them just like when Barb left me and took the house
80 can't be the best number, they still sold square body half tons all the way through 87 and a couple more years in the heavier trucks
I believe Brent has turbo'ed an LS before. Might make for a good collab.
Thoroughly enjoyed this episode
Glad you enjoyed it
What is with all the negative comments? He has always called it as he sees it. He literally said at the beginning of the video that he wouldn't sell it to someone that wanted to drive it before they knew everything
It's name is the Bandit Breaker, because there is no way Bandit could survive in that lol
Glad to hear it, will do!
Sad Max or Turd Ferguson would be great names for this car. Bonus points if you know the Turd Ferguson reference.
Man , thats is definitely a 10th anniversary TransAm with the WS6 suspension . It is too bad the original 403 is gone but it has a ton of potential , and by the way , those are T Tops not a moonroof and its NOT a ram air car , it had a shaker hood scoop that was originally non functional
Glad to hear it, will do!
Hell ya !!!!!! I Love this thunder Chicken !!!!!! Please keep is posted on it....
Got a lot all ready there. Could maybe do a “low budget “ bad ass!!
Glad to hear it, will do
I'd have some fun with it then when the right frame & body comes along yank the motor & drivetrain out swap it over the front end too ! You got a great deal at $3500.
Plumb crazy, like the G.T.O. first thought when I saw the color. She's good. Thanks again Mortsky 👍 👍
It's sweet if the subframe by the leaf spring shackles is solid.
21:07 a guy who used to do sub work for us doing fire alarm systems. Would use white masking tape on everything. He would disagree its not for electrical. Lol😂
Good to know
I love seeing u having fun and enjoying ur self driving fast please do another episode with this car.this was my favorite episode great content mortske
Glad to hear it, will do
Hay thair is a bolt out. Of the top of the steering box you can adjust it
Glad to hear it, will do
scotch tape, blue tape, silver tape, black tape and clear tape..... all the tapes and all the feels.
Plum crazy purple is what I believe that color is called
That oil pan looks like an LH8 Hummer H3 unit. Those are shorter than the factory truck pans and are commonly used in GMT400 or squarebody swaps. The bell housing on the H3 trans is different than other 4L60s, hence the mismatched oil pan bolt.
Interesting
Could call it Grimus lol. I like it a great deal minus some of the obvious issue's. Definitely want to see it live on in whatever manner you could make possible, just looks like a fun ride! Great content as always!
I like it!
