I really don't comment on many videos, but I currently live in Roscommon County Michigan just down the road from Roscommon Michigan. I worked at Lear Corporation in Fenton Michigan for 25 years. I built the seats in your Buick in 1987. I started there in 1985 when the plant first opened. After building the seats in Fenton, they were loaded onto yellow steel pallets, specifically designed to keep the seats in place, having groved tube steel that the seat tracks slid into, then shipped to Flint Michigan, GM Buick City where they would be unloaded from what were called "soft side trailers". Essentially huge tarps that covered both sides of the 53ft long trailers filled with both front and rear seats. The seats would then be loaded onto the assembly line once unloaded from the trucks, and would be put in the cars as they passed by the seats waiting to be installed in what GM called a " just in time" system. The car and seats were assigned matching numbers specifically scanned with a bar code for one another.
Sadly, Buick City was completely demolished and became one huge concrete slab thanks to GM moving plants to places like Mexico many moons ago. I miss working there at Lear. I worked with school friends there since I had graduated from Fenton in 1983. Hired into Lear in 1985 when they opened their doors. Good times.......😊😊
Great find in the Buick. Sadly I heard about your find after you had left town. A few of my friends along with myself would have been proud to meet up with you, even if just for a couple minutes. Love your show. Rarely miss an episode.😊😊😊😊😊
Blessings to you and your family....
I have an '87 LeSabre T-Type, thank you for your story!
I heard northern Michigan and it piqued my interest too. I started recognizing landmarks and heard him say Roscommon..... I could have been up there at my parents on the Au Sable.
Derek, I’m a 70-year-old year widow. I love your videos and my family is amazed since I’ve never been a car person. However, I am a big fan of “before” and “after” videos. I love watching the process of getting from “here” to “there”. I find your videos to be very mesmerizing. I love the fact that you are so calm. I don’t recall that I’ve ever seen you lose your temper.
You are very chatty lady 😮

Totally agree.
Yeah Derek is the best. He's a great family man. Bravo to you sir and yes this one is a keeper. These cars are worth a fortune.
Yes ma'am. Derek is awesome 👌
Dont usually comment on much but ive got to agree with a lot of people here
This has to be one of the cars you restore, do the frame, do everything it needs, it deserves to exist another 50 years preserved mostly the way it is now
Right, the way it was built to be.

I really enjoy watching you work on these old cars. I’m 75 years old and have lived thru most of these eras. Keep em coming brother!!
Derrick. You have one of the rarest turbo t’s. It was hard to tell with the interior if it had concert II sound or not but I would say this car is probably one of 700. And the reason it was breaking up on the top end was because I never saw you check the air filter and you have to test the throttle position sensor and the spark plugs are Tr44s from the factory you need to put Tr42’s in it an make sure they’re gapped between .35-.45. This car requires 93 octane only especially with the miles on it. General motors had a TSB bulletin in the 80s and also the inner cooler needs to be washed out. You can take a solvent and dump it in there swish it around, and dry it out real good and reinstall it with a new hose Upgraded hose couplers. Dennis Curbin would probably be the best person to reach out to in Pennsylvania if you’re looking for the best research and go fast parts. Enjoy that beautiful piece of history.

This car is not a t-type . It is much more rare. It is a T otherwise known as a turbo -T . There were only 1,534 of these cars made in 1987. The Turbo T's were the last off the assembly line for the buick turbos. They were lighter and faster then the grand national. They had aluminum wheels and aluminum bumpers. The grand national had steel bumpers and steel wheels. Nice find and please keep it .
Aluminum wheels & aluminum bumper brackets... Not aluminum bumpers.
How many had T tops?

I never thought id watch another man work on a car because I can do it myself but your videos are very entertaining, you have a nice dark sense of humor and I learn lots of little tricks. I also like the fact that they are long and you dont leave out a lot of details. I learn a lot from that. Keep them coming!
I worked for a Buick dealer when these were rolling into the lot brand spanking new, loved them then and love them now. The GN is a T-Type in a wife beater T-shirt. I’d take the T-Type any day.
Regarding the rust and corruption on the underside of that car, I would be willing to bet that the storage facility was brand new when the Buick was put in place for storage. New concrete hold a lot of water and would have kept the sealed up storage unit nice and moist for quite a while.
Michigan also has snow, and road salt as well
Put away in December I believe he said… salt a big component
Unfortunately, she has probably seen a winter or two. Maybe first owner. Storage rust is very superficial, but that is a bit more imbedded. She’s seen the salt.
* Good Point ... 😔
For this reason, I've heard that storing cars on dirt inside is better than on concrete. Dryer. Anyone else hear that?
I’ve been watching this channel since almost the beginning and I’ve never seen u bring home a unit of this caliber! Many including myself, would love to see this car restored to factory condition!!
Agreed 😮
Agreed. This car right here is the one if ever there is one that deserves a full restoration
Yep.
Derek this T Type is absolutely beautiful inside and now you've got the mechanical stuff fixed and working. Good job!
What a find Derek! I love the care you took getting this one home, it was preserved, pretty well anyway, just for you. Spray some preserving oils on the underside, fix the headliner and enjoy until you have the time for a frame off!
You know and I know that that car is way too close to mint to not be fully restored. It'd be a crime to do anything to it that didn't bring it closer to factory.
With all due respect, the shiny paint doesn't make up for the mess that the underside of the car is. It's not bad but it's not close to what I'd call mint, because of that. It'd make a nice driver.
@@townhall05446 "shiny paint" he says. Tell you what. You find me a straight buik 3.8 turbo optioned, non GN with 100% functional original interior, T-Tops in the shape thats in (headliner glue not-withstanding).

Derek You found something Incredible here, some of the best Oldtimer from Buick You can get there !!! Great Video !!!
Having dealt with a rusty tank in the past - I have to say - that new tank makes me feel so good.
In my case I was able to save the tank - a good thing, as it was made of unobtanium. (1984 TA63)
I was so proud of how it turned out.
Thats a perfect car for the wife to drive while you drive the other turbo g-body to car shows. Frame off restrictions on both would be great content since thats not your normal thing. There both rare enough to keep for your personal collection since there both only gonna go up in value. I absolutely love them. Hope to see this happen❤❤❤
I'd say find a good rolling chassis from out west and install polyurethane bushings and mounts. Also a great time for a hydroboost conversion and any other upgrades for reliability and longevity. You'd have a beautiful survivor that would be safe and reliable.
replace the frame and fix the rust in the doors and let the wife enjoy it also give it a good tune up

Great episode. This one definitely needs to be restored. A guy found an amazing barn find with this one.
I know VGG does a lot of giveaways and always tries to do everything on a budget, but I'm really rooting for this one. I've barely started the video but I think this car deserves a proper restoration for VGG to do and keep for himself. Just my two cents but I'll still enjoy every bit of content we get out of this one.

Best UA-cam channel. Period. This is a hour and 40 minute movie. Better than anything you'll see in a theatre this weekend.
Totally 💯%
Love watching your videos Derek, pretty sure I've watched them all at this point. Your an interesting individual and it's great to see folks still playing with the old stuff
Derek, a little history. I have never been an Buick man. I learned to drive in a 1953 Buick Roadmaster three speed maroon. Hatted it. At 14 Oldsmobile was my choice first car was an Olds Holiday Sports coupe two door hard top with clock in lower spoke of steering wheal. However your 3.8 turbo is out of this world and deserves to be kipped as original as possible. Pleas treat it with the respect it deserves. I am 78 and appreciate all you do.
Just a heads up for any would-be revival mechanics out there learning the ropes, a lot of times the reason a pinion or an axle seal will start blowing out hot gear lube after driving it long distances is because the vent on the axle tube is clogged...so as you drive it and the axle internals heat up from friction, the hot air expands and has nowhere to vent, so it pressurizes the axle housing and pushes gear lube out past the seals...so, before you go wrestling around with new seals, go ahead and remove the threaded vent from the axle tube and make sure that's clean first...they have a tendency to get caked with dust, rust, and old gear lube, so they're very easy to plug up and stay plugged...
Back when I was a service manager at a bike shop I used to make a FORTUNE the day before hunting season. Dirt daubers would build nests in carb vent tubes.
The airbox would fill up with fuel then dilute the oil. Bop the vent, start it, then flush the crankcase. Easy money on an easy carb clean.
That's a good point .
That's an exceptional find. I'd swap out the chassis and do as much rust repair as possible to the few bits of the body that have started to go. It's too nice a car to change, in my opinion - it's worthy of a ground up restoration. Cars like that don't come along very often - there are plenty of lesser examples that can be modified. This one is well worth the effort to completely restore and keep as a real "going to town rig".
😂The people you run into here.
I totally agree, she's too beautiful not to restore. I can see Jessica claiming it.

This one deserves a huge stock restoration! The frame is scaly, but we've all seen way worse! See what it's like after a thorough rust-removal. That body is way too nice, and that package is supremely rare.
Fantastic workolatin', as always!
Wouldn’t be worth a full restoration without acid dipping the frame
Yes it does!
It would be worth it to swap the frame and suspension, and keep the drive train and interior mostly stock.
The shape of the car is very pretty but you can tell whoever the car designer was got over rided by some safety comittee that added a horrible rear end bumper and the front bumper, which hangs right in front of the lines the designer intended.
Its a shame.
Absolutely best video ever. Thank you. ❤ love seeing you and mortski together!!!
You know Jessica is gonna want to keep it. Restore the frame and keep it as is, it is a one of a kind factory ordered beast.
Brother, I have been here since the beginning and have rewatched all the way through a few times. You deserve an award for being able to remain the same person through all the growing and opportunities that you have earned these last few years. That being said, I am a fan and will watch as long as you are making content. God bless you and your family!
Absolutely agree with that comment.
Eddie, like you I've been here since about the 4000 sub mark, right after his first video he made with just his phone taped to the garage door. I agree with you, he's still the same guy working on cars as he was in the beginning. Most would have let the fame go to their heads but he hasn't changed his ways or mannerisms. He still the same guy that he was when he made the first video. Love his commitment to his family, country and of course the channel. Granted some stuff now isn't for the average blue collar worker with being able to afford new engines and whatnot, but still using hobo freight tools and donating to so many kids in shop classes is what makes him as genuine as they come. Only thing I wish he would have stuck with is the cars for vets he done a couple of times.
Shoot I remember watching the ford Model A revival and that put me on for life I watched all his previous specials and episodes to the point we are at today. Derek is awesome like a true icon and his personality really shines. Who doesn't love this guy and his family!!
Derek, I'm not a big car guy but I really do enjoy your videos. Thanks, and keep up the good work.
That's a nice find.
One of the guys at work was looking for a car for his son. They found a Type T for sale and went down to look at it.
He was quite excited at how much power that car had and said there was no way HIS kid was getting a car like that.
If I remember what I was told, the Type T was only made for a short while. Not sure why it was discontinued but may
have had something to do with competition with the Corvette.
My truck has a rusted frame, well 34 years, it should right?
I sprayed Mineral Oil on it to control the rust. The oil will weep into the porus rust and seals it from the air and moisture.
very good penetration.
The frame will darken as the rust is coated. After a couple years, the frame looks good and no new rust is seen.
Get in the doors to soak that bottom pinch fold and above the wheel wells, where the metal pinches .
I'd suggest in the air cowel but that is a complex system and difficult to get all the metal inside there.
But coat all the metal you see with rust, include the pumkin gear box and oil pan. (I've had a car oil pan rust to nothing, now I coat them)
Any adjustment points like the front end, where bolts are, nuts are, coat them. If you can get inside the rockers and frame, go for it.
that T looks worse than it is. but it's worth coating to stop that rust.
These are my absolute favorite videos! Wow, that's a nice Regal, ALMOST a time capsule. I think this one is worth a frame swap and some TLC. What a BEAUTY!
Agreed 100%
Frame swap it and leave it as close to stock as possible. Mod the crap out of the GN.
This is the answer.
Yes this is the right answer
Exactly what I was thinking!
This will be the second time I watched you work on this classic Buick. I really appreciate watching you work on this old iron Derek. I regret to say that I wouldn't have your patience. Kudos to you.
Did a rewatch, enjoy watching all you're videos as many times I watch.
That needs to be Jessica's car. It will be a perfect replacement and future power tour car for
the one you gave away! Those G body frames are plentiful if you want to swap it, but I'd consider trying dry ice blasting first, it may not be as bad as you think. Great video, I appreciate your hard work!
Frame swap for sure, you're never going to get to all the inside of that frame to stop corrosion unless you spend big $ having it chemical treated, even then your end result could be structurally compromised because of the rust.
Frame swap fur shur. Powdercoat the rear end. Change out the upper and lower a arms and rear bars. Change the right and left rockers . A chrome kit under the hood. Treat the floors while it's off the frame. I just subscribed so I'm all for a whole series on this one....lol...I love the turbo t's and maroon (rosewood) ain't a bad color to have.
As much as I'd love to see this as a giveaway. I agree. The best way to preserve this one is to keep it in your arsenal.
That NEEDS to be built specifically for Jessica. Its perfect!
Jessica, is that you?

The ECM or ECU is located under the glove box and dash forward of the front passenger door. You will have to carefully remove cover and inside you will see metalbox that is where the chip is. That coupler that you mentioned at begining are notorious for coming off. Keep spares in the car at all times. Those cars need an oil pressure guage, because known for low oil pressure at times. Also check the entire front end suspension often. I needed to replace the entire front suspension on mine. Great performing highway Cars in its day.

I understand what he’s saying but have come to love your long format videos! I rarely get to watch the whole video but always look foreword to coming back to it and starting where I left off. No problem here and judging by the number of views you get after a couple of weeks I think there are many more people doing the same thing! Keep it up and God Bless Derrick!
Personally, I prefer the long videos, the guys that do the same thing and have it running and driving in a 20 minute video cut so much of the work out that it makes it feel staged and pointless
That is an absolute beautiful Regal. You just have to slide a clean southern frame under it to match the topside and repair the little bit of crusties on the lower edge of the doors and rockers, a couple oil leaks and she should be good to go. Some of those shined up chrome GN wheels will add to it too. Jess might claim this one now for herself and I ain't kiddin ya.
Seattle frames are solid too
I agree, Jessica would love it as her own...!
I've been watching your channel for quite a while now and i don't usually subscribe to channels, but you have provided so many belly laugh's and lots of great lessons on how to work on cars and still keep a sense of humor while doing it, I figured I mozzle subscribe. Keep up the great content.👍
Great video!!! I honestly can say I dont watch a lot of videos all the way through without skipping forward, but you kept me interested for just shy of 2 hours. I appreciate your sense of humor and choice of music. Now I better get back to work....
Derek, I have officially watched every single one of your videos now. And some of them several times. When a guy needs a little inspiration to go outside and work on my junk I just put on VGG and it gets me going. Thank you for what you do, from rescuing cars to giving back to the community. Hope to meet you in person one day
Best motivation for our inner tinkerer haha. I love the "what would Derek do/say" moments I have in my head when I'm wrenching, makes it seem a bit more manageable 😂
@rockfordhx2768 by the sounds of it you know all about holding sacks there are plenty of us car guy that want to meet him you can't say that there isn't one guy you would want to meet a little advice don't be suck a dick to ppl and try to do better in life the bullying just don't look good for you
@@jasonthomas4132 thank you for what you do too, I would love to meet you one day too…
